Most recently, I had a work lunch meeting here and ordered the Executive Lunch which included 2 choices in addition to dessert. Your starter choices are either crostinis, sweet corn dumplings (my choice and it was incredible!) or pastrami egg rolls. Second choices are Vietnamese pho, steak noodle salad, kale caesar or An's famous garlic noodles (my choice & favorite - crazy good!). This ends with the chef's sorbet of the season and all for $25.00. This is still my go-to spot in the OC/Costa Mesa area if I want to have a nice sit down lunch or dinner. I've come here with friends and business associates and AnQi never fails to live up to the reputation of their Crustacean BH legacy. Recently there has been a new GM there named Chris and he does a stellar job at handling guests and making sure that the experience is up to par. I've tried some of their new(er) food items and the quality is there! For starters I like their take on chicken and biscuits w/ gravy as well as the sweet corn ravioli. Even though I usually come for dinner, I think that their lunch is underrated. Some of their salads are outstanding (Grilled shrimp kale salad and the Peking chicken salad), I really like their chicken pho (pho ga) and pho ribeye dip. You can never go wrong with their beef filet shaken beef and definitely get the garlic noodles w/ either crab, lobster, or prawns...it's their signature dish! I also have ordered their kim chee fried rice and it's really good as well! Pro tip: Ask them to add another egg on top! I just got to try one of their new desserts and it was fantastic! I don't recall what it was called but it was a green tea based cake with a taro frosting and coconut sorbet (I posted a pic). I really liked it! Also don't miss out on their table side ice cream if you want a cool show for your guests. Have known about this restaurant for awhile, and while it's never been on top of my list of places to try, decided to give it a shot. We were planning on having lunch at Marche Moderne but didn't realize that it's no longer in South Coast Plaza... Wife had the Shaken Beef ($35) which consisted of 7 oz of beef and some vegetables...no rice. Any self-respecting Viet/Asian restaurant would serve at least a side of steamed rice with Bo Luc Lac. The filet was tender and the sauce tasted right with hints of Maggi seasoning, but again there was no rice to sop up the sauce. I suppose we could have ordered a side of garlic rice for an extra $10...so blame for being too cheap. I had the Lobster with Garlic Noodles ($35 for 1/2 lobster). The lobster was tiny, couldn't have been more than 4 oz. The noodles looked and tasted like it was prepackaged, but that would be an insult to prepackaged instant noodles. It was like eating bland, day-old yakisoba. It was bad. Total came out to just under $90 including the tip. Service was decent, thus the 2nd star. read more

This was my first time back since COVID hit and.... just.... WOW! The crew at this restaurant has gone above and beyond with safety measures. They take your temp at the door, use QR code for their menu (HUGE RELIEF not having to touch germy menus!), everyone's silverware is vacuum sealed, and, if that weren't enough they use UV-C wands on your glassware. All staff wears masks and gloves and seem to change their gloves quite often (thank goodness! Many places use their gloves way too long to be sanitary but not here! They aren't taking ANY shortcuts!) Their revamped indoor dining area is just stunning and they have some delicious looking new specials! I headed back to the bar and was delighted to see the bartender, Charles, that had been so helpful my first visit. I asked again for a drink recommendation since they have so many new additions! Charles and the other bartender, Cliff, were both so pleasant offering suggestions for drinks and just generally being friendly! All while creating GORGEOUS cocktails - quickly! I was shocked at their efficiency and I NEVER found myself with an empty glass. Since it was "Thirsty Thursday" I decided to try the Morning Glory and YUM! Forget mimosas - it's all about the Morning Glory! And at 50% off! Score! I decided to have their famous and absolutely delicious garlic noodles - and a drink I've been dying to try - the Tipsy Mermaid. What a meal! It was a wonderful experience to be whisked away from all the worries of the world! While I was there I felt safe and cared for. A beautiful dining area with attentive and friendly staff - and bartenders that make one hell of a drink (seriously they're so pretty it's hard to take that first sip!) I will be back very soon! My all time favorite restaurant. The food is always consistent and fresh. I usually always order the salt and pepper calamari and a bowl of brisket pho or the garlic noodles. The truffle fries are nothing special but a good appetizer if you need something fried. The chefs market salad is great as an appetizer to share between two people. Went for restaurant week just to check it out. For the price and the things I'd heard, I expected more. Pros: (only reason for 2 stars) - phenomenal "French dip" banh mi sandwich and excellent noodle salad option -Very attentive service Cons: - ahi tacos were meh. The shell wasn't crisp and there just didn't seem to be a lot of flavor. - deep friend pastrami wrapped roll things were meh. A bright spring roll would have been better, but this...I feel like I could have bought these in the freezer aisle. - crostini (?) was weird on an Asian menu and whoever was preparing it had a heavy hand with the balsamic. - dessert. "Seasonal sorbet" or however it was phrased = small scoop of vanilla ice cream with a bit of fresh strawberry. Big disappointment. For pete's sake! Would it have been too much to at least dust it with matcha powder and throw on a mochi ball? Would not go back. For similar pricing, a much prettier atmosphere, and excellent food, I'd stick with Fig & Olive. (Proof that just because your restaurant is in a shopping mall, you don't have to "dumb down" your menu or your quality.) Side note - went for late lunch on a weekend. Surprising mix of dress. From the moment you walk into this magnificent restaurant, you are treated like family! The hostess stated that it was her first day and she was so friendly and accommodating, it was like she had been made for the job. She took time to take our many pictures! Our waiter, Robert was so attentive and professional. I was entertaining an out of town friend and she was blown away. We loved the Japanese house made vodka lychee martini!! GM, Patrick checked on us a lot and Chef Ron cooks up the best food I've ever tasted. The bulgogi nachos, lobster ravioli,and garlic noodles were to die for. The made to table ice cream is a one of a kind experience . From their appetizers of salt and pepper calamari, to garlic noodles, to cauliflower/Brussels app. During our recent visit we sat at the bar to find one of our all time favorite bartender; Diego there. I have been coming to this restaurant for years. The service is fantastic. The plates come out and look so elegant. The garlic noodles are a must-order. The lobster is seasoned so well and cooked to perfection. Light sauces do not overtake the main course. A very romantic place for a date as well. I brought my three sons--still a great environment and menu for children. My boys loved it. They said the Shaken Beef was their favorite. There is a lot of variety too. It was a hard choice between the garlic noodles though. The menu has seafood and several other creative dishes. I would recommend this location for anyone who wants a creative meal. Greet - I asked if the bar was open seating (which it was). There was only one other customer at the bar. It took the three bar tenders quite a few minutes to greet me. I had to get their attention by waving one of them down, and asking for a menu. Service - after placement menus in front of me, the Bartender inform me that there was still a few minutes left on happy hour. Again I had to waive the bartender down so that he can put in my order for my drink and food. Once it was established that I was going order food, he probably placed the silverware and plate in front of me in preparation of the food being delivered. The bartender seems preoccupied with whatever he was doing, and asked another bartender to pour my glass of wine. The food came out in an acceptable amount of time. Food - The food was hot and cooked properly. The food was definitely the best part of the experience. I ordered a blogger who beef sliders and white truffle French fries. In another failed service opportunity, I had to wave down the bartender once again just asked for a condiment. My overall experience wasn't as pleasant as I thought it would be. Granted I wasn't dressed for the type of environment that I was dining. Regardless, it shouldn't matter what I'm wearing, and I shouldn't feel like I'm being judged on my outside appearance. I felt kind of disrespected, with three bartenders and empty bar, one other customer and the manager having a very casual team meeting about TVs. It eventually got to a point where I had to wave my hand in front of the bartenders face just so they can acknowledge me. I have absolutely loved this restaurant for quite some time. The service, quality of food and the amazing craft cocktails. The intimate setting is right up my alley too. I bartend myself and appreciate top quality service and drinks when I go out. I dined at Anqi for the first time since the reopening after quarantine and was mind blown at the extra safety measures that were put into place. The fish was a quarter piece, the fried rice was so minimal, the amount was half full & it didn't even fill the plate. The garlic noodles served were half compared to the couple next to our table. The wait for the dessert was about 35 minutes, the manager apologized & did seem genuine however, do not dine here if you want Asian style portions. The food here is pretty good, but is on the pricy side. Came here the other night and order the satay beef with garlic noodles. When the order came you could tell the food was made fresh. The satay beef was cooked perfectly and very good quality. There garlic noodles is a must try if you come to this restaurant to eat. I've tried garlic noodles from other places but no we're compares to the garlic noodles they serve at anqi. Maybe it's because I haven't tried to many places that serve garlic noodles yet. Location is located inside south coast mall so parking is not hard to find. Unless the mall is really packed. The environment is also nice but can get noisy during dinner time on weekends. read more

I dined years ago in their restaurant and i can't remember anything memorable to go back to. So I'm rating them on their noodle bar outside the actual restaurant and towards Bloomingdales. We were looking to have a fast bite after a day of shopping and chose the noodle bar. The food was very good and the prices were reasonable. They are known for their garlic noodle which we ordered with prawns and it was really good. They also have a good selection of alcohol and our other orders were equally tasty and good. A group of twenty of us dined here for a team dinner. We had a pre-set menu to stay within our travel budget. One if our team had been eating Momma An's cooking since she started in San Francisco. We started with a chicken pot sticker and tuna taco. The pot sticker was very good, but the taco was a bit bland. The executive chef sent out some stuffed mussel and fried shrimp. The mussel was good, but I never got any shrimp so can't review it. The chef also sent out the garlic roasted crab and garlic noodles. Both were specialties of the house and delicious. I ordered the misoyaki butterfish. The fish was good, not great and a bit over cooked. Normally, butterfish is soft and very moist, but not this one. The best part if the night was that Momma An cane into our private room and greeted each of us and thanked us. She came to our friend who had been eating her food since he was a child. She took pictures with him and had her executive chef come in and personally make us fresh nitrogen vanilla ice cream to go with our dome cake dessert. While the cuisine at AnQi is elevated and refined, the service really needs some purifying. The waitstaff, although kind, are not seasoned professionals. They lack panache and expertise in the art of service. The Kalbi Hangar Steak was served with kimchi, roasted onions, ginger-scallion sauce and Boston Bibb lettuce to make individual wraps. An exalted ssam (Korean lettuce wrap). Chicken Potstickers were pan fried dumplings with scallions and served with a luxurious balsamic-fig sauce. Crispy, chewy, and slightly sweet, these little gems galvanized my appetite. Flamed (sic) Tossed Cubes of Filet were served with broccoli, white button mushrooms and jasmine rice. One dimensional, but there was considerable effort put into the preparation. The cubes of filet were crusted with corn starch and fried before they were tossed in the wok. The sauce was wanting of arousal, yearning for inspiration and a catalyst. An's Famous Garlic Noodles with beef was understated elegance, yet effervescent and vivacious. Farmer's Market Tempura "Fries" were crispy and prepared with local produce. The most brilliantly executed Kimchi Fried Rice was on exhibition at AnQi. The balance between the laughing bird shrimp, apple wood smoked bacon, English pea and hen egg was inspired. Lucky long time.... read more

Came here for the $50 dinner special for restaurant week. For the appetizers I went with the Tomba Tuna Taco. In my opinion these were the stars of the evening. This consisted of 2 small tuna tacos with yuzu-kosho, avocado, macadamia nut, white truffle and black tobiko caviar. The taco shells were of flour and crispy. They were small, each taco I ate in 2 bites. But they tasted great. A lot of the flavors reminded me of the Poke places I frequent. The next course was a glass noodle soup. This consisted of lobster nage, shitake mushrooms and bell peppers. The portion size was small but this was a good dish as well and had a unique fishy type flavor to it. The most anticipated dish of the evening was the main entree. And for that I ordered the famous garlic noodles with lobster. The noodles had a good amount of garlic and butter flavor to it. At the end of the day they are just noodles, not sure what all the fuss is about. The 1/2 lobster was good also and easy to remove from the shell. It was cooked just right. Finally for dessert had the green tea tiramisu with ice cream. When the dessert came it just came with a little cream and a bit of crumble at the bottom. This didn't look like any of the pictures I had seen. I brought it to the attention of the waitress and she remarked that this certainly is different. She went ahead and brought the actual dessert that is served from the normal menu and it looked quite a bit different and had the green tea ice cream on top. It was good, not an out of this world type dessert. The tiramisu was infused with green tea and there was green tea ice cream on top. I had high expectations, because this was restaurant week and the meal was priced at $50. The food overall is 4 stars, but for the price, I am going to drop a star. Don't kid yourself about AnQi. It's basically a mall restaurant. The problem is that since it's in THE mall of SoCal, it pretends to be something more flashy and amazing than it really is...kinda like some of the people who regularly shop at SCP. My first bone to pick is with the interior decorator. Did you not realize that a tapas/family-style restaurant would require bigger tables than those tiny round tables? Yes, even a party of two requires something that does not necessitate a balancing act with plates and drinks. Also, what's up with the wire mesh "wall" that was next to us? We had a lovely view of the escalator...and the shoppers walking through the mall had an equally good view of us. I was tempted to share some noodles with the woman standing at the "wall" staring in on us, or just poke her with one. I could have easily done both. My next issue is with the service. Our server was perfectly lovely, but why she did not space our dishes out properly is beyond me. Instead, she just merely dropped off all 4 dishes at once. Hello!?! If we have to overlap our dishes and remove things from the table in order to eat, that is a problem. Also, serving all the food out at once means that something will get cold. I don't like cold food unless it's meant to be cold, like leftover pizza, ya know? The hamachi was decent quality fish but very average in taste and texture. The filet pot-stickers were not enjoyable at all since they were too rubbery and oily. The small plate shrimp dish smelled fishy which, obviously, is not appetizing. The pan-roasted lobster and garlic noodles could have been amazing, but it wasn't. The lobster was too small in portion and the garlic noodles tasted like they were drenched in butter. If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was something Paula Deen had prepared. We had the Chocolate Elvis for dessert, which we thought was appropriate considering we dined on his birthday. All I have to say is..."Return to Sender." The chocolate was much too rich and peanut butter droplets were much too small. That dessert wasn't good enough for me, let alone The King. I won't be back to AnQi, but I will say that the bar is gorgeous. If you happen to be shopping at SCP, this is a good place to grab a drink. But if you decide to stay for the food, make sure you're well liquored up beforehand. In order to really enjoy this place, all senses must be seriously dulled. read more

AnQi (pronounced on-key) poisoned me. I'm pretty sure it was the Pho soup made with extra thumb dipped in it. To make it worse, I had the sushi roll (made at a Vietnamese owned generic "oriental" restaurant, ugh) made with too much Sriracha. The result? I couldn't even let the toilet paper touch me, it burned so bad. Lasted about 5 days. And to suspicious readers, I have been to AnQi at least 3 times, and it has progressively gotten worse each visit. I just tried looking up the menu for AnQi to help me write my review, but the website is absolute @^$#!!. Mama An, did none of your bounty of kids go to UCI and get a computer science degree? And the idea of a secret kitchen is VERY questionable, it's probably so the Department of Health can't get in and see Mama's dirty work area. Our waitress explained that the famous Garlic Noodles are prepared once a week and that you basically are ordering leftovers. AnQi is a place I have been wanting to stop in and try for some time now. I have been hearing a lot of about how great the garlic noodles are at this place so we stopped in to give it a try. The restaurant is located outside of Bloomingdales in South Coast Plaza. The restaurant is very beautifully decorated with a really cool looking bar, neat furnishings and interesting groupings for dining inside. Very beautiful touches to the restaurant like the dark purple orchid on our table and decorative touches in the bathroom. Yes, I took a picture of the bathroom. (I apologize about the quality of that picture -- trying to rush to take that shot before somebody walked in) ;) We were greeted at the hostess table and taken to our table with a nice conversation along the way to our table with the hostess. She immediately made us feel welcome. Our waiter asked if we had been into the restaurant before and when we indicated that it was our first time he proceed to tell us the difference between their famous other restaurant, Crustacean and AnQi. He told us about several menu items and offered us a cocktail menu. There was a nice array of specialty cocktails and Robyn decided to order the Indochine which had gin, sake, lime and cucumber infused into the drink. It was light and very refreshing and dangerously non-alcoholic tasting. Very delicious. We then ordered the chicken dumplings which were pretty standard dumplings. They were good but the sauce drizzled on top was a little too sweet for me. Next, Robyn decided to order the famous garlic noodles with beef and I opted for the garlic noodles with shrimp. OK, let's just say I was anticipating how great these noodles were going to be because I have heard so much about them, and they certainly lived up to my expectations. They were so good! Had a nice amount of garlic without being overbearing and the shrimp nicely complimented the noodles. We also ordered the chocolate twist which was an interesting presentation. The chocolate was infused with chipotle and was dusted with red chili powder. On the side was corn pudding and a small scoop of thai basil ice cream on top a bed of roasted chili infused salt. Our waiter warned us people either really love this dessert or hate it. We loved it. Mixing all flavors presented on the plate was wonderful. Hard to describe how delicious it was, but I would have to say it is probably not for everyone. Our waiter, William was outstanding. He was informative, friendly, honest and incredibly attentive. He let us know about AnQi's Happy Hour. AnQi was the much anticipated restaurant I took my mom for her birthday celebration this week. The ambience was elegantly beautiful and waiters were very attentive. The food was quite good but not great.. because some of our dishes seemed pre-cooked, because they came out lukewarm not hot, freshly made. All the food had Flavors that were good but a little bland. One complaint was that they brought out all the dishes in too quick succession and we need time to eat some of it before the other plates got cold.
