i have ordered from here 3 times and sorry to say.. 3 strikes and you're out!! first time- i ordered roast beef with bbq sauce and a pizza roll... not too complicated an order... they arrived 90 minutes later and all the delivery person had to say was "sorry i got lost" umm u couldnt have called me or ur boss? the food was cold, they forgot the bbq sauce and instead of a pizza roll they brought onion rings which looked like a bag of grease and i didnt even bother trying them second time- pasta was bland and flavorless, sauce was nothing special and i asked for no cheese as i am lactose intolerant and my meal was smothered in cheese... had to pick it apart to avoid the dairy i ordered delivery since it was near my work. they arrived within 25 minutes which is pretty good at lunch time. the total came to $7 but the delivery person didnt have money to make change... he stated that all he had was $5 so thats all he could give me back out of a $20.. he wanted a tip that was MORE then my meal total but kept insisting that part of it was the delivery tax.. looked at the receipt and delivery is already included. total scam i do not mind the food (when its correct) but i will not be ordering delivery from here ever again.. the delivery staff is rude and sneaky read more

If you go here and there are two people in front of you, turn around and walk out. That's unless you have 25 minutes to wait for a mediocre and overpriced roast beef sandwich. I had that experience today. And when I my dissatisfaction to the girl who gave me my food, she couldn't have cared less. I called afterwards to speak to a manager so he'd know he had a dissatisfied customer, I understood why she didn't care because he didn't either. "We're busy" was his excuse. There were literally 2 people in front of me when I ordered. They appeared to be training a née employee on the register today. If she has an ounce of customer service skills (which didn't seem likely) I'm sure she won't by next week. You are much better off at Liberty Bell in Stoneham or, even better, Liberty Bell in Melrose. They are ALWAYS busy (actually busy...not 3 people busy) have great food and are very, very polite and helpful. Got take out here for the first time. Drove all the way from Wilmington. When I arrived, the order was ready. Drove all the way back to Wilmington. When I got home and took the order out of the bag....my son's steak and cheese sub was missing. Needless to say I was very angry. Called then back and they offered to deliver the missing sub. I will start off by saying that I've been going to Anthony's for quite some time, knowing that the prices are outrageous, but specifically going to get the honey tip salad with feta and onion. It's typically around $12 (they charge you extra for feta and onion) but I always felt that the salad was a decent size and it was always cooked to order and was always delicious. This week, I convinced my boyfriend (who could care less for their food or their pricing) to get take-out from here because I was dying for the honey tip salad. We called and placed our order. The girls they have working at the front desk always answer the phone and greet customers with a less than thrilled attitude, but said our order would be ready in about 15 minutes. We arrive, and it cost us over $25 for a honey tip salad with feta and onion and a chicken finger dinner (ABSURD). I'm pretty sure my boyfriend used a different expletive at the front desk (with no response from the girl at the counter) but continued to pay for our food anyway prior to bee-lining it back to the car to complain about the prices of the less than quality food. We drove all the way home, and I opened my salad and I was beyond irate. The salad is now half the size it used to be and it had no feta or onion on it. Honestly, it was a 1/2 cup of lettuce with 2 slices of tomato and 2 1/2 pieces of small steak tips (no feta or onion, which I asked for and paid extra for) no olives, no cucumber - nothing. I could have picked up a bag of salad at Stop & Shop for $2.50 and spent much less for this salad. I called them back to advise that they messed up my order and I was upset about the recent change in quantity of the food for the price we paid. I was given to 3 different young girls to complain to before one of them finally thought it was smart enough to give me to the manager. She was extremely dismissive and passive aggressive. Offered no apology and told me to come back for my $1 (for the feta and onion that was missing) or she could send a delivery driver to drop it off. I advised that I was more disappointed in the size of the salad for the price, and that I would probably finish my salad within a couple of minutes so sending a delivery driver to my house would be of no use and not fair to the driver as I would not have tipped him/her for a mistake made by one of her other incompetent employees. She gave the excuse that she gave me someone else's salad who wanted it plain. No offense, but I wouldn't be paying $12 for lettuce - just saying. I ended up hanging up on her. Needless to say, we will never be returning to Anthony's again and will be telling our friends and family not to return here either due to the outrageous prices ($8.99 for a sub, really?) and because of the major lack of customer service that Anthony's provides. It's clear, based on all the other reviews here that they have major work to do. You may want to start with removing half your staff and hiring people who actually are competent and want to work. I received a menu in the mail and had a craving for a turkey sub so I figured I'd order delivery and give them a try. My mother happened to be over and really wanted cheese sticks so I called and ordered a small cheese stick side and a large turkey sub. I was pretty surprised at the price (although, I should have checked the menu to see how pricey their sides are!). It took about half an hour to arrive and the delivery man was friendly. The food wasn't very good. The cheese sticks were hard and cooked oddly. First bite, coolish but when you got to the middle, they were super hot. The sub was a real let down. Not much meat and the toppings didn't taste very good, especially the onions. For that price, I expected a nicely put together sub with lots of meat and what I got was one already soggy from the toppings with most of them fallen out the minute you opened up the paper to get to the sub. I had a horrible experience. I ordered a chicken kabob salad with extra dressing. When I picked up the order I asked 3 times if the extra dressing was in the bag and was told that it was....of course it was not. The salad was just huge chunks of iceberg lettuce, very little feta, only a few dry pieces of dry chicken, and one sad olive. The pita and the dressing were the only good part. This place is really nice inside-clean and modern looking. It could be a great take out restaurant but they are so slow and never get the order right! The girls that work there seem to never know what they are doing and mess everything up which is very unfortunate. I ordered a chicken parm calzone, took along time to make, when they gave it to me it was buffalo chicken! So now I had to wait around 30 minutes for what I originally ordered! Luckily I was not in a rush but it is ridiculous how they seem to never get it right and always take FOREVER to get the food out to you. If I could I would give the service zero stars but as you can see I give this place three stars because the chicken parm calzone is the best calzone I have ever had! It is really amazing! Unfortunately, I had the same problem as other customers regarding Anthonys NOT honoring their online prices. First, I will say that Anthony's food is good. I do believe in giving credit where credit is due. However, it doesn't matter how good a product is if the service isn't quality service. I ordered two party platters for my daughter's graduation. Online the price for each was $10.00 less...not just $1.00 or $2.00. The online page said "We are not taking online orders". Did not say anything about pricing. So I called and ordered over the phone and quoted the online price. They questioned me and then put the owner on the phone. He questioned me again about where I saw that price. I asked him if it would help if I printed a copy of the online menu showing the price as $60.00 instead of $70.00 - the price he was quoting. He (the owner) confirmed if I made a copy and brought it in, he would honor the price. The day of the graduation, my son and his girlfriend picked up my order. Not only would the owner not honor the price (with the copy provided as requested), but he was very rude to my son. My son called me to tell me the situation and told me that he wanted to walk out because the owner was very rude to him. I spoke to the owner and he just continued to argue with me saying I misunderstood him. He was very curt. He met me half way with he price and that is the best he would do. I had to take the order, because it was the day of the graduation party and I was expecting over 150 people. I told him I would not do business with him again. I've worked in PR and Human Resources for my entire career and know that you never treat a customer the way he treated my family! I would think twice about spending your money here. Doesn't matter if the food is good, the owner is not deserve a loyal following of customers if this is how he treats his customers! There a so many other wonderful places in Reading and surrounding towns to eat. Don't spend your money at a place that does not stand by their word and conduct business the way a business should be conducted. read more

Got the menu in the mail recently, and decided to try the coupon for a large cheese pizza and a 12 piece buffalo wing. On a Friday night which I'm sure was busy, the young woman on the phone was very helpful and efficient. At around 5 o'clock, I placed my order and was told it would arrive in about 45 minutes. My doorbell rang in only 35 minutes with a nice delivery man carrying a hot pizza and wings. The food was amazing at such a good price! First experience at Anthony's will be my last. I ordered steak and mushrooms, received a steak tip and mushrooms. It was probably one of the worst subs I have ever had in my life. I'll start by saying the steak tips are the best around!. Also the sweet asian fingers are incredible! On the downside the bacon is always raw, but my BIGGEST complaint is the service. The food here is actually quite good. The real issue is that Anthonys charges for delivery and the food always arrives ice cold- even if you live pretty close by. Another problem is they have countless teenage girls at the counter who have no experience and have a really bad attitude and aren't well trained and it seems there's no way around that. The turkey subs are good, very tasty steak fries and the restaurant is fairly clean. Consitering they seem to do so much delivery rather than pick ups they'd have it nailed and it's just insulting to charge for delivery, and have the food show up an hour later, cold on a weekday. read more

Then after the third time we called (every time they had a different story) they said there was a mistake with our order and they would make a new one for free, but we had to wait extra 40 min!!! So I am writing this only because you asked, and I think after 2 negative experiences it is warranted. The last two times we ordered take out did not go well. One time you were unable to complete our order due to not having the food item available (a call back at home shortly after we ordered to let us know), and this last time we ordered onion rings which were super greasy and honestly tasted like fish...which was really disappointing on a Saturday night when we didn't want to cook. I should have heeded other reviewers' comments regarding deceptive pricing where Anthony's online prices are lower than the prices charged. While I can understand perhaps minor discrepancies, say $.25 or so due to timing of website update, it is inexcusable to have $1.00 to $2.00 differences for such an extended time - check the dates of the reviews. My wife questioned the difference when picking up our order and was told the website prices would be updated the following week; two weeks later they still haven't changed. I've had only great experiences with Anthony's. While I haven't had the roast beef, the honey steak tips are delicious, the chicken ceasar salad is moist and flavorful and the best turkey club we've ever had. I found the food to be very fresh, portions are huge and the service has always been great. Our delivery person is always pleasant and told us on numerous occasions that if there was ever anything wrong to please let them know and they would fix it. I actually went to Yelp to get the address, because I've been there about 10 times. I'm shocked by the number of negative reviews; it looks all the good reviews got filtered out. The other problem with the reviews here is most of the 1 or 2 star reviews are specifically about their ability to handle deliveries, which skews the ratings negatively. Anyhow, even after moving to West Roxbury, I still make a special trip here for the amazing Roast Beef sandwiches. They are fresh, tasteful and BIG. Also, their home made onion rings are to die for. That's it. It's one of my go-to places, and every friend that I've taken there has been wowed by these sandwiches. So yes, my rating is based solely on the sandwiches. read more
