I love love love Antoine's! The service and hospitality of the owner and waitstaff is phenomenal! They have been voted the best in San Clemente for a reason. The food is delicious whether you have an omelette, crepe, or sandwich. I've never been disappointed. They have a good selection of fresh coffee as well. I don't know about you, but I hate breakfast spots that serve awful and cheap coffee. Antoine's has quality coffee and espresso drinks. Went for breakfast Saturday morning .. My gal ordered California Eggs Benedict.. It was a cold slice of tomato/avocado on a stale English muffin with a poached egg on top covered in hollandaise sauce .. it was nothing worth talking about. I ordered chicken fried steak and eggs... Service was fast... but what i received from the cooks was pre-cooked old greasy oil tasting no meat all batter with gravy splatter. Gravy and biscuits were cold & disgusting, It was so horrible the sweet nice waitress offered a alternative meal, so i ordered steak and eggs medium well.. never the less the steak was totally raw and the hash browns taste like cardboard.. i gave up and surrendered to the idea of not enjoying a Saturday morning breakfast in this establishment. The only thing good was the coffee this place is over priced and yes and it's over rated too. If i owned this joint i would definitely fire the cooks and replace them immediately. I have been going here for awhile and always had great food and service. Not today. Waitress brought one of three food orders then realized she forgot to put in the other two. The first dish was cold and had to be redone so it had to go back when the other two came out. She did not seem apologetic enough for that kind of mistake. I can't tell you how many times I thought this was an Italian restaurant. I don't know why. But it's next to the red fox which is a local dive bar. I never knew this was a breakfast place. Finally went in with a local and I could not believe this place! The menus is fun. The coffee drinks are great. I had the eggs benedict. Which was great. Amazing prices for a good meal. Place was packed. They do have outside seating on the sidewalk. And if you are in the red fox lounge you can go in the phone booth and order food thru Antoine's. Red fox doesn't have food. It's a cool Idea. I have t tried that but that is what I am told. It's a great breakfast gem in the area. For whatever reason I thought this was a completely different place just by the outside. Only reason why I didn't give it a higher star rating is because the service was VERY slow. It took 25 minutes for us to be helped and another 20 for us to get our order in. I was expecting so much more! I was excited to eat here after reading all the good reviews. I ate here for lunch after a wonderful night in San Clemente. This cafe was down the road from the beach. When I walked in, it was very crowded and busy, which seemed to be a good sign. Standing at the podium, our hostess wrote our name down for a seat and asked us for our drink order. After glancing at the menus and standing there awkwardly for 10 minutes trying to get her attention for our drink order, she decided to seat us in a booth. When another larger party arrived, she changed her mind and moved us to the bar. When we sat down, we didn't receive service for another 5 minutes while sitting in front of a dirty, stick table. It's busy and I get it. We don't always have to receive the best service. We ended up waiting around for the menus and when we had the chance, we ended up ordering the caffe latte, cappuccino, breakfast burrito and the build your own omelette. The drinks were just ok. My caffe latte was espresso with an attempted milk heart blob. The drink quality itself was good, but I think the latte art needs a bit of work. My neighbor ordered a caffe latte as well, and his drink just looked like a creamy accident. The cappuccino that arrived tasted like milky blandness. NOT WORTH THE PRICE! My build your own omelette with a side of fruit was decent. You can't really mess up mixed eggs and ingredients. The breakfast burrito was ok. The side of salsa definitely gave it a little kick it needed. The waitresses here definitely work hard here. I think the owner walked in right in the middle of the lunch rush and started to inspect the place and talk to the patrons. She lectured the workers in front of the customers about how they should do their jobs. I think this would be more appropriate in a private setting, where the customers don't hear it during their meal. It makes lunch more awkward when you are haranguing the staff. Driving home from Huntington Beach, my husband and I started to get hungry around San Clemente and really wanted to try a nice new breakfast spot off the PCH. I love that my Blackberry has a Yelp app on it and found this yummy local spot. It is a pretty small cafe and there were already people waiting outside so we were not sure if we were going to get a table. We walked in and they had a table for two and seated us right away. SCORE!!!!! All of the waitresses were super friendly and fast. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and the hubby got scrambled eggs, hash browns, and bacon and sausage. Great food. We ate breakfast here, and I would recommend it without reservations. I tried both the french toast and breakfast crepe, and they were both equally delicious. And the hash browns! You've got to like green onions, but if you do, they're perfectly golden and delicious. Also, I rarely drink coffee, but this was tasty enough for me to think that I might want to start drinking it more often. I have to agree this is the best place in the area (we had breakfast next to the hotel the first day pretty bad). Had a super good omelette... I can also recommend the coffee. This place is really cute and perfect for an early breakfast! The later in the morning it gets, the bigger the line of customers outside gets. We asked for a table on the patio and only had to wait for about 10 minutes. Score! It was beautiful weather, so I was actually glad to get to sit in the sun and enjoy the people/doggie watching I got to do while waiting for my meal. I ordered one of the specials, which was breakfast tacos (the veggie ones) and hash browns. Tacos were huge, like I could only finish one, but they lacked seasoning. I really loved the fresh and generous portion of avocado and pico de gallo but I still had to add salt and pepper to give it some flavor, which I never do. One the other hand, the hash browns were perfect! I love my has browns crsipy and brown on the outside, and soft like mashed potatoes on the inside...and these ones delivered! Fresh OJ was good and I liked the container with all the condiments you could ask for was already on every table. Our server was great and very friendly. She could tell we weren't locals and she asked what are plans were for the day. When we told her it was a beach day, she gave us directions and told us the best spots to go. It was really sweet of her to take the time and do that. Most small towns don't exactly embrace the "tourists" so it was nice to see that San Clemente is not one of those. Overall, I would come back for breakfast or maybe even to try lunch (super convenient location to the Holiday Inn we were staying at and a plus they open so early), but I might get something more generic like an omelette or pancakes to see if they offer more in way of flavor.
