Arrived and were sat for our 8pm reservation at 8 with no delay. Within moments we had Prosecco, water and bread to enjoy while we decided what to have. Our waitress Elizabeth was amazing. My wife and I had our 2nd meal here in a 2 year span (here on vacation again). The bread starter with the oil is really good for a free bread basket. Crunchy and fluffy choices. We next had the bruschetta, wow... always fresh tomatoes and flavors. Really good! My wife had the fettuccini caprese and loved it. Nice rich flavors and garlic -y flavors! I had the Gorgonzola gnocchi. It was so good... it was a blue cheese flavor. They probably make these my scratch. The dinner was not cheap, but worth every penny. I had 2 crew members treat me to Antonia's because of a week or hard work. I had never been prior but had good expectations as they were frequent visitors to the restaurant. Antonia's met and exceeded those expectations right from the greeting as we entered to the service and meal that we were provided! I had the linguini and it was so fresh and the mozzarella mixed in with the sauce was such a great treat every time. Walked in with no reservations^2...and TK at the bar graciously invited me in. The beef carpaccio appetizer is to die for...the delicate beef combined with earthen, woodsy truffle oil and complexity of the Parmesan Reggiano cheese makes for a most delightful appetizer. The veal chop was an obvious main course and it did not disappoint. Cooked perfectly to medium rare and accompanied with a most delightful mushroom pan-sauce it will satisfy the most carnivorous of palates...I would suggest deferring to TK for wine pairings with the assorted courses as his deliveries were perfectly matched with the food at each turn. Overall atmosphere is sophisticatedly relaxed, warming and gracious. Prepare to trust the staff and lean on their suggestions/recommendations as to what food and wine to select. So wanted to love this place. Both ordered the Zuppa de pesce. First item on the description was lobster. There was none. When we made mention to our server, she said "that's just wrong". Almost as if she knew. End of story. When we left we mentioned to the host/manager. He showed us a picture of the dish with a large lobster claw. We said yeah. Well that certainly wasn't in our dish. My family made a reservation a few months before New Years and nothing was mentioned about a special New Years menu OR that it was a minimum of $100 per person for food. I don't often write reviews, complain to management, etc., but we had such a terrible experience with Antonia's, both during our service there, and after when following-up with management, that I had to articulate to others what happened. Buyer beware, I would guess. Three of us were in town for the Key West Half Marathon and decided to have dinner at Antonia's the night before the race. We were able to get seated quickly, which was great, as it was earlier in the evening. After that, we ordered our appetizer and prepared to enjoy the mail. After some time of my glass sitting empty of water, we requested that and some break from a busboy, as our server wasn't paying us attention (had to flag him down to order the appetizer). I asked for an additional glass, so he wouldn't have to come as often to fill it up, as I was hydrating for the race. We then ordered our entrees, waited forty or so minute for them, and were disappointed when one of the entrees came out incorrectly. We sent that back and got the new one much more quickly. I had the stuffed chicken, which, being bone in, should have been rather juicy and tender, but it was incredibly dry. Since we'd already sent one entree back and had waited significant time for the first iteration, I ended up choking down about 1/2 of my breast before giving up. In addition, my side of pasta was incredibly bland. To end the meal, we ordered coffee and a to go dessert. The dessert was brought without to-go utensils. I requested them from our server, Rock, who informed me "no", I was under the assumption he was joking, but when he did not return with them, I inquired again. He stated he would go get them. When he returned once more without them and presented our check, I asked a third time. His response was that I should go to the Mexican restaurant next door or another one down the street to get some. We were astounded at his rudeness. With that, I left a voicemail for management upon my return home. A day later they returned my call, cut me off at multiple times during the explanation (though I requested he hear me out and then respond at the end instead of cutting me off) to provide excuses (it was a busy night, Rock had had the flu and must have been off his game, that they don't bring bread until after the entree has been ordered, asked if I had alerted anyone to the problem with the incorrect entree, etc.) and finally apologized. I mentioned that it was frustrating that he was only offering excuses and not taking ownership of the issue. He said "I told you I was sorry, what more do you want" and started raising his voice at me. I attempted, again, to articulate that what he'd told me was that they were unprepared, had a sick server, etc., and he cut me off again and raised his voice at me. I finally terminated the call, as I knew I was getting nowhere with him. I wanted nothing but to make him aware of the situation and for him to acknowledge there was an issue and that he would work to resolve it, as any decent leader would. Instead, I was blamed, provided excuses, and confronted. I will be putting this out there anywhere anyone will listen. I will also ensure that when I hear of folks going to Key West, that I recommend they do not visit Antonia's. It's a small thing that won't make a difference, but I'd hate from anyone else to go through this, and to pay hundreds of dollars to do so. read more

What a train wreck! Like a jumbled burning mess of poor snooty service, amateurish presentation, and tasteless (sometimes inedible) food. Shall we start with an appetizer? Yes, let's. MUSSELS DIABLO, came to the table steaming whilst emitting the heartwarming aroma of low-tide in the summer. Attempting a bite on the mussels we nearly broke our teeth. These weren't just dirty, they were filled with grit, rocks and pearl deposits. Let's send this one back, but keep an open mind. LASAGNA, Seafood Pasta, and Bolognaise Pasta. Lasagna was 1 mushy noodle buried in tart tomato sauce and a metric ton of cheese...not in a good cheesy way, in a you're only having cheese for dinner way. We preemptively requested the mussels be taken out of the seafood pasta, but I guess we should have cut all the seafood out. If that was fresh seafood, it was caught in the mild, rolling waters of Phoenix, AZ. Bolognaise was tasteless, boring and dry. All around each of the 4 of us,took a bite of our own, had everyone else try one, paid our check and left. We stayed quiet, didn't complain, didn't cause a scene. But we were still treated like we owed them something only because we didn't praise the cook when we were asked, "So how great was this?" Clearly the locals have figured out there is a problem. Dishes that are normally fantastic we're very disappointing. New chef? This may not be an automatic stop on our visit next time. I promised the server that I would write a good review but I just got lazy. In summary, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in Key West looking for a great Italian restaurant with friendly staff. The food there tastes so good that we actually decided to have both lunch and dinner in the same restaurant, on the same day. I'll explain why. The restaurant's "specials of the day" are a must-try. I think we ordered everything that was on the specials menu, and everything was incredible. The lobster eggs Benedict was as good as the combination ever goes: it was rich enough to make the diner happy, but not so rich that it would ruin your appetite for other dishes. We also had a black snapper carefully seared to perfection. Note that I almost always hate seared fish dishes in the US because they are almost always overcooked: the fish becomes chewy and tasteless. NOT HERE. Here, they do the fish right (hate to steal that line from KFC publicity but that's exactly how passionate I felt about that snapper dish). The fat in the fish was cooked just enough to slightly overflow (but not evaporate entirely), and it tasted heavenly. Note that for the same entree, the restaurant often offers the option between a salad dish and a bread dish: do try both, as we loved both. I must mention that the bakery team at Antonia was gifted: their bread basket (served hot) was so good that we finished them all and asked for more. Equally impressed were we by the house-made olive oil, with spices such as poppy seeds, sage, and a bit of anise seed added. If I had more space in my luggage, I would've bought a bottle of that from them - that's how good it was. We also truly liked how the sauce/reductions are carefully chosen in each dish to better bring out the flavors of the seafood. For a seafood-centric restaurant, it is the Number 1 thing that we look for. At Antonia, the chef knows perfectly well how to make it all work. Kudos to that. The friendliness of the staff was also truly important to us: Brad helped me recover a scarf that I forgot during lunch, and chatting was quite enjoyable. When we were rushed for time (due at a diving shop before we could properly finish our lunch), the staff kindly packed our lasagne for us, and again helped us reheat it (with extra layers of cheese on top!) for dinner. Such kind service certainly made us enjoy the vacation better. Although this restaurant is a little far from the most popular parts on Duval St., it is worth every step you take away from the crowds. This restaurant was recommended by the concierge at the Waldorf Astoria Resort as the best Italian food on key west. If that's the case then this island has pathetic Italian food. The waiters were condescending, rude and impatient. The food was basic at best. For someone coming from NYC with amazing restaurants and service this place was a dud. Italian is one thing there is not really a lot of in Key West. So Antonia's fills that urge if you have it. However, I don't think it is better than Mangia Mangia. The bartender and hostess was very nice as we waited on a table. Our table service was I guess what you would call "sufficient". Food came out on-time, ordered properly, not much personality, and that's it. For Key West italian...the food is good. For italian anywhere else, this place would be in a strip-mall barely hanging on. The prices are ridiculous in my opinion. We ducked in for dinner one night while in Key West. While the reviews were generally positive, we didn't much enjoy our experience. The service was poor, above all. i'm not sure who our sever was, but she was in a dress and not dressed like the other servers. She may have been a manager or greeter. We sat down and waited at least 20 minutes before being greeted. We got a little bread, which was nice, but it was very slow service due to the attention given to a large table on one side, and a couple on the other side who had wine flights and food. We seemed to be the last priority. We ordered, and while my pasta was very good, my partner's seafood pasta had a lot to be desired. For instance, his scallops were overcooked to the point they were chewy. While we would have normally sent this back, we had a show to see later. I'd give this a miss. While it wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't worth the $90.00 for two pasta entrees and two glasses of wine. read more

The calamari appetizer was served with a good marinara; but I could not eat it because the calamari itself only resembled calamari in appearance. I declined the waiter's offer to replace it; but I appreciated the professional gesture. Neither could I eat more than a few bites of what was supposed to be fresh yellowtail; it was drowned in a lemon butter sauce with a few lobster claws of indeterminate age (one got as far as my mouth, but no further). Really disappointed in my dinner there tonight. We were seated right away, but didn't get water for at least 5 minutes (from the server assistant) and our server didn't stop by until well after that. Weren't told about the specials until after we were ready to order. Wine (which was ordered first) was not at the table before our appetizers. No cutlery on hand when our entrees were presented. Our second bottle of wine was opened away from the table. Worst of it all... My pork chop was raw. When I pointed it out to the server, she agreed. Nothing was done in that moment to rectify the situation, but a minute later, and I kid you not; she offered to have it cooked further (halfway eaten and all) so I could finish it. I will admit, I didn't realize that it was raw until I was over halfway done but once I did, I was ruined. I don't usually eat pork and was not familiar with why the texture was off, but after looking closely I saw it wasn't cooked in the middle. I know it sounds dramatic, but I was slightly traumatized. On top off all of that, it wasn't taken off of the bill. For as much money as the entrees cost and the phenomenal wine they have to offer, the service needs a LOT of work. To her defense, it looked like they had 2 people running that whole dining room which is insane. But where was management to help? Thankfully they rectified the pork entree after I went up to the bar to protest. I love the atmosphere, and want to like this place... but unfortunately i left feeling nauseous and neglected. read more

I would love to give this a higher rating because everything was wonderful - the servers, the bar, the manager - I just didn't feel the food was above average. The "diver scallops" were small and there were only four. And serving them with mashed potatoes is just strange! The seafood in the zuppa di pesce was decent, but the "broth" was like a tonato sauce.
