This meal was delicious! I thought this would be a sit down restaurant with a wait staff, but it wasn't. You order your meal and they deliver it to you. We came at the right time because there was a looonnggg line after we arrived. I ordered the fish sandwich and it had a nice crispy, potato chip crust! I love a good crunch! My husband didn't a share a bite of his burger with me, so I guess it was good... I was able to sneak some fries and they were yummy! They had a fried apple pie milkshake I wanted to try, but since my husband and I were sharing...I ordered the strawberry shake. It had lots of strawberry chunks which is a big plus! We stopped at Apple Valley Cafe for breakfast. It's a cute spot. You order at the front and they give you a number and they'll bring the food out to you. We ordered the Grand Daddy breakfast sandwich and a bacon, egg and cheese croissant. They didn't come with a side and we both ordered the hashbrown casserole. The grand daddy came with eggs, cheese, ham, bacon and sausage sandwiched between two slices of bread. The bread was super buttery and it was fine. My bacon, egg and cheese croissant wasn't anything special either. You can definitely tell they make it to order though. The hashbrown casseroles were overly cheesy. My first bite was pure cheese and no hashbrown but once you got to the hashbrown part, it was good We got 2 coffees as well and with tip it was $35. Definitely would say it was overpriced but considering the cost of everything in this new times, it's tough. however, Tina was a delight to talk to. The outdoor seating area allows dogs. My wife and I got smash burgers that's were decent. Nothing to take home other than your normal smash burger. Bun was super fresh and delicious however. The fries they advertise were also pretty good. Definitely a good place for a quick lunch bite. Very touristy. read more

We came here for breakfast, service was fast and the food was super good. I had the ham and cheese toaster, my kids had the pancakes and my husband a breakfast sandwich. I tried some of kids pancakes and they were SO GOOD. Everyone was super friendly and thoughtful. My baby was getting a little fussy and an employee brought us over some crackers for her while we waited on our food to come out (even though it was a short wait). They had an outdoor seating area that would be perfect in the summer! We will definitely be back next time we are in town. read more

The restaurant and surroundings were cute!! Stopped in for breakfast on the way to Cades Cove. I was not impressed at all. The food looks nothing like the pictures on the menu. We stopped here as a group of 11 after a hike in the Smokies and while the line to order food seemed long, I ordered my grilled chicken sandwich with the cashier in less than 5 minutes. I had time to sanitize my hands at the pump outside the restroom, fill a little paper ramekin with ketchup, fill a bigger cup with ice and drink from the soda fountain and sit down at a table on the patio before my food arrived: Speedy Service! Inside the lightly toasted bun sat a large portion of perfectly cooked chicken breast topped with 3 round slices of pickle, a slice of ripe tomato and purple onion and a crisp piece of romaine lettuce: Large Portion & Tasty! The fat sidewinder fries, overgrown and twisted cottage fries, came out hot and crispy. My table mates' orders also arrived quickly. One said his carved turkey sandwich on wheat with a side of dried cranberries tasted delicious. His milkshake also met his expectations. The other ordered one of the hamburger selections, and although he made no comments about the food, his thin burger patty would have been overcooked for me as the edges seemed burned because they were black. (I prefer my burger cooked medium, so I'm glad I didn't order what he did.) The chicken and turkey sandwiches, large order of sidewinders, fountain drink and milkshake totaled $32.32, which is a tiny bit steep for lunch, yet the tasty food and speedy service made my Apple Valley Cafe experience a 4-star eatery. read more

Thought this place would be packed, maybe everyone sleeping in or hiking. Food portions are really good and fresh. I had the BlackBear BLT sandwich. With had the bowl of Chili, very good servings. Water cups are a great size if yall drinking water. The only disappointment was the coleslaw. I was really looking forward to a nice size portion and flavor..... it just wasn't there for me. 1.99 for coleslaw and a small portion. I say try something else. Everything else was DELICIOUS!!!!! Chewy, obviously cooked an hour ago and under a heat lamp. Fries COLD, not cool. There was no rush in front of me, they're was no reason too feed me that garbage food. And charge me that much! I'm a local, I have friends visit all the time. There are very few restaurants to choose from in Townsend, I will make certain no one I know or talk to ever spends another dime. I walk into this place at 10:50 just to grab perhaps a muffin and a breakfast sandwich to take back to my room at the property. There is a family of four in front of me who found it too difficult to read a menu before going to the register to order. Breakfast dishes are being served all around me. Once the family decided how to order and paid, I get to the register and ask for the breakfast menu. She said they just stopped serving breakfast. I asked what time it was and she says 11:03 and I just just missed it. Are you kidding me?! I wanted a muffin and a sandwich. This Dancing Bear property where this is located and, I believe, is owned by the property, is awful! Burgers were good. Black bean burger was mushy. Macaroni and cheese was ok but a little too creamy. Fries were excellent. 3 different opinions in our group about coleslaw. One really liked it, one thought too peppery, one thought too vinegary. Very fun condiment cow. Bathroom was out of toilet paper but they responded quickly when informed. We briefly thought about going elsewhere since at the time of this review Apple Valley had a 3.5 star rating. All I can say is that our experience was awesome. The staff was super friendly and very helpful, even bringing me a sample of chicken salad to help me with my question of which is better the chicken salad or the burger. I ended up ordering the burger and my Wife got the grilled pimento ham and cheese. We just ordered a single order of fries and I'm glad we did as there was plenty for two. The burger was awesome, cooked perfect and still super juicy and flavorful. I'm a huge fan of having all the veg off to the side of the burger. 1 it gives crappy veg nowhere to hide, and 2 it keeps fresh veg from getting all sad withering away on a hot piece of meat. All that being said, I have zero complaints for my burger. The fries were probably some of the better fries I have had. They were actually thick enough to be crispy and fluffy at the same time. I'm glad we stopped and next time we are through the area we will be stopping again. read more

Today I had the new chicken salad Apple Valley Cafe in Townsend. Y'all...no words. Absolutely NO words! This was the absolute BEST chicken salad I've ever had! It has cranberries and almonds in it and it comes on toasted sourdough bread. Do yourself a favor and stop in and try it!! I'm not sure whether to be disappointed with, or feel sorry for the woman who helped us set the counter. She had no emotion and did not make any effort to connect with us at all. It was basically just get the order in and move on. Very disappointing for our first visit. Although the food appears to be reasonably priced, there are no sides along with your dish. They have to be paid for separately. So I'll have to say that the food was not worth what we paid. The burger was overcooked, which ruined the Wagyu beef that we paid extra for. The pulled pork was 90% bun and 10% pork. The beer was flat. We would've gone up to get replacements on the food, but the thought of dealing with the counter staff again canceled that idea. We should've ended up going to the Fancy restaurant at the lodge right behind this restaurant. read more

The rest of the place is either indoor seating or outdoor covered patio seating. Nothing really glamorous here. They bring your food to you and if it's busy, there may be a slight wait for the food to arrive. Lots of tourists here so you'll watch a lot of people coming through as you wait. ==The Food== In a touristy area full of pancake and steakhouses, finding a kickass salad was like finding a diamond in the rough. Had I gotten anything else here, my rating would have been completely different and I wouldn't have been as impressed. ++Apple Valley Salad++ Apples? Check. Fresh spinach and spring greens? Check.
