2nd trip to this place. This time we came here for brunch and brought our big dog Simba. When we arrived there was already a husky there, he was seated under the sheltered patio. We chose the table nearest the sheltered patio but were told we could only sit near the edge of the unsheltered patio since ours was not a service dog. And so we did. So if your dog is not a service dog, find a seat near the edge. Also bring your own dog bowl for water. I don't think they have bowls for your dog. We ordered 2 coffees, Victor a new server brought them out promptly in tall coffee cups. Coffee was good, not the watered-down kind. I ordered the shrimp, scallop and grits. I couldn't resist. The grits that came was a little more solid than the usual that come with gravy. The grits at Apres Diem is make with cream cheese thereby making it more hearty and with a slightly firmer cosistency. The scallops were diver scallops. I could taste the sea! It was seared to perfection. I posted a picture. Look and salivate. The shrimps were big too. Overall a very satisfying meal. read more

It was date night and time for a late night dessert before heading home. I'm sick of Cafe Intermezzo and the usual related spots, so the boo suggested Apres Diem. It was dark but it wasn't too hot, so we chose to sit outside where it wasn't as stuffy and noisy. The layout and concept is very similar to Cafe Intermezzo - the boo ordered a glass of wine and I indulged in a warm chai tea latte. We went inside the restaurant to pick out a piece of cake. After much deliberation and help from one of the servers, we chose the tiramisu. The chai tea latte came in a surprisingly large mug. It was subtle and warm in my belly. The tiramisu isn't the most authentic, but it was light and moist and hit the spot. The ambiance was romantic but chic. I loved how we were seated next to a group of sophisticated, middle-aged single men eating together. They were fun to people watch. And even though I was super full? They made the food look delicious. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely have to hit up Apres Diem for a real meal. I had mussels which I noticed that on a lot of tables so I can assure you they are a hit! The garlic butter sauce that accompany them is great to dip bread in. Oh my gooooodness! This was the cutest place. I loved the atmosphere, the chill vibes, the live music, and offfff course, the food. I mean I was a fan of their sister restaurant Carpe Diem, and was definitely sad when it shuttered, buttttt there Apres Diem and oh how I was purely enamored as soon as I walked through the patio and into the restaurant. So my friend grabbed us a table on their super spacious patio and I must my first impression (aside from my love at first sight attitude) was that he service sucked. Like I sat down and saw 98 servers walk by but our table was invisible. It could've been because I was super hungry butttt I'm sure it was about 5 minutes before our server finally let us know they were pretty busy. Our server was a really sweet lady who let us know about the specials and answered our questions and her attitude alone made me feel better about the service. I settled for the chicken breast with roasted potatoes and seasoned veggies (carrots and broccolini) with some sauce that I can't spell but it was really good. The chicken was tender and seasoned well, the potatoes and veggies were delish with a very generously portioned meal for $23. Again, loved the ambiance and they stay open late during the week. An Atlanta Institution & Always a favorite but NOT today. We were excited to come ans get some good food after visiting the Garden Lights but our experience quickly went south. It's important to keep expectations in check when dining here. Over the years, I've had very good meals along with a few disasters. Service, often provided by impossibly beautiful people, ranges from exceptional to the "Halley's Waitress" variety. Consistency is not one of Apres Diem's strengths. The menu is an eclectic mess, and the food can be hit or miss. I find the best way to enjoy Apres Diem is to sit at the bar and order a Guinness or cocktail and possibly an appetizer or two to share among friends. I've had mostly good luck with the baba ghanouj, the hummus, and the lobster crostini. I do enjoy Apres Diem's ambience. I just wish the food and service were more reliable. On a good day, they can be excellent. And on a bad day... well...not so much. read more

I ordered the cocktail shrimp which was amazing and the salmon farfalle, also delicious. For drinks I ordered the Fleur de Lys which wasn't very strong. I have been coming here for years and absolutely love it. The mussels are my favorite appetizer, served in a broth you won't be able to get enough of, so be prepared to ask for extra bread or fries to dip. The crab cakes also make for a good, light starter (2 small cakes). The beef short rib is served with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and topped with a Tamarind Au Jus. The Tamarind Au Jus was sweet but tart, and complimented the meal as I dipped into it. My partner had the seasonal ravioli and devoured it - mushrooms, tomatoes, sautéed kale all! The environment is very cozy inside as well. My one request is for them to add space heaters to the outdoor area. read more

I went to Apres Diem for brunch on Saturday with a friend. The weather was nice enough for us to sit outside on the patio in front of the restaurant. The seating is first come first serve so you seat yourself our first server was very prompt about coming to take our drink orders & food orders. I was a little disappointed to find out the Portobello mushroom sandwich was not apart of the brunch menu I really had my heart set on it but I ended up ordering the veggie frittata. We ended up moving tables because a couple sat at the table right behind us & had a fairly large dog with them and my friend is not a fan of dogs. When we moved tables we were unaware this placed us in another servers section. Our new server wasn't nearly as prompt or attentive to us. I'm not sure if she was upset that we moved to her section or what. She did not refill our water glasses until we notified another server. She also brought the check without asking if it should be together or separate or if we wanted dessert & actually we did want dessert. Needless to say she was not a great server. Now that we have that out the way on to the food my frittata was good but my breakfast potatoes were luke warm at best they tasted good but should have been warmer. My friend had the same complaint she also ordered the blackened chicken wrap that she said was just okay no wow factor to it. I was surprised to learn that for dessert you have to go inside to order and then your server brings out your selection. I didn't like that concept but we went inside & ordered cheese cake she had the chocolate mousse & I had the amaretto white chocolate cheesecake that was very good. I'm sure I gained about 5 pounds from that alone lol. Needless to say I would be willing to give them another shot. read more

Apres Diem, I want to like you, I really do. But it's probably just because I remember a time when you were so so much better than you are now. In fact, one of my two stars may just be a Nostalga Star. The location is still as charming as ever. Outdoor tables, inside dining room, a nice little bar space, even a room in back with comfy couch seating. But what on earth has happened to your service? My party of six met Saturday for brunch. We had made a reservation here on Yelp and our table was all set up and waiting for us. So score one for that! But that's also sort of where the service ended. First, part of my group had silverware wrapped in cloth napkins; a couple of us didn't. So I asked for napkins and was handed a stack of paper cocktail ones. How do you napkin your lap with little square cocktail papers? When I explained I wanted a regular napkin, my waiter just looked confused. So I got up and went over to the server station myself to get them from another employee there. For that matter, we had to ask for just about everything. Straws (again, I needed to go help myself), silverware, refills on fountain drinks, butter for biscuits, our bill at the end, etc. There was just no thought put into serving us at all. Was it easy enough to ask for these things? Sure, I guess. Was our server nice enough? Sure, I guess. But it didn't really seem like he cared about our experience. The biggest part of dining out is the dining *experience* and to have all these things overlooked was just super disappointing. I guess that's how I'd sum Apres Diem up in one word: disappointing. I wish the food could have made up for it. I ordered the scallops and shrimp with grits. Now, the scallops? Those were delicious! I'll give them that. But the shrimp was rather overcooked and rubbery, the biscuit super tiny and cold, and the grits just lukewarm as well. You can tell in the picture that cold cheese was just tossed across the top of it all; it was still cold and hard where it didn't land on the grits. I mean, come on folks. This isn't even trying. The one thing that is good here are their drinks. I had the Breakfast of Champions (I've had it before; it's still just as good) - and YUM. And they are currently offering an array of coffee cocktails; a companion had one of those and claimed it to be delicious. So, hey. There's the explanation for my second star. Grab a cocktail here if you want before a show. I'll go ahead and recommend that at least. But I wouldn't bother so much otherwise. read more

Came here for brunch and it was not my favorite by any stretch. It was decent at best. I am vegetarian so my options felt limited. I got a breakfast sandwhich of some sort (sans meat), that honestly was not memorable enough to describe. The atmosphere was confusing. It felt like the space couldn't decide if it was an evening bar, or a full blown restaurant. I'm all for a versatile joint, but this felt like it lacked an identity. New upholstery, dining furniture, paint color and decor would do this place well. It felt dark and dim- but not exactly in an inviting way. It needs a facelift for sure. There are too many other brunch spaces to compete with to not have a solid identity on the brunch scene. Or just don't do brunch/just go here for wine and tapas in the evening. I found myself in Atlanta on Labor Day when apparently a lot of places are closed. Needed something that was open after 9pm for dinner, I stumbled on Apres Diem. This place is a gem! They have ample outdoor and indoor sitting and a bar and bakery. We sat inside at a cute little booth. The menu is a French theme with Latin and Mediterranean options. Our servers name was Julie and she was a delight. We ordered calamari and the fruit and frontage appetizers that came out very quickly. It set the tone for what turned out to be a very amazing meal. The calamari was typical calamari but the marinara sauce which had a subtle kick to it was really delicious. The fruit and frontage had Brie wrapped in philo dough with honey and slivered almonds over it. It was amazing. I also had a cup of the tomato bisque which had bacon pieces over the top and happen to add excellent flavor to the soup. Our entrees were very quick to follow and just as delicious. Apparently this place has been around for 30 years and I can see why. If I find myself in Atlanta, I will definitely have to stop by again. read more

Quite an interesting place, Apres Diem. It almost falls into that category of 'doing too much'. We visited on Friday around 8pm and it was fairly innocuous. Walking through a generously sized alfresco dining area (which happens to occupy most of the outdoor space in front of the theater) led to the hostess. The interior is reminiscent of an updated European bistro, it's inviting and relaxing. The dinner menu is limited and yet somehow it was hard to decide on an entree. Nothing really stood out to 'wow' me; completely subjective I realize but true nonetheless. The drink menu, however, is expansive and lends credence to the ever-growing vibe that this place is more of a trendy drinkery than a quality eatery. We noticed one middle-aged couple (if they lived to be 100) with their small grandson grow increasingly uncomfortable as the lights began to gradually turn down and the music (techno/EDM) became quite juxtaposed to the maturity of the interior. The food was mediocre and perhaps slightly overpriced. The trout was served skin on, though it was well cooked; albeit in a rather uninspired lemon/butter sauce. The vegetables were remarkably fresh and crisp. Also worth noting that the food took an unusually long time in the kitchen for its rather insipid nature and mundane plating. Service was actually typical of European bistros, which if you're unfamiliar, largely sucks (by Western standards anyway). We wrapped up around 9:30pm and the vibe had completely shifted. The alfresco dining area more closely resembled a Saturday night at Twist (for those of you that are old enough to remember that place). If you're a 30 something, quasi-successful, dating, caucasian - this is your home base. read more

I have brought my Meet-Up group to your restaurant five times in the past six or so years. There were never any complaints about the service or the food. We ranged in size from 14 people to 8 people. We always asked for separate checks and your wait-people said it was not a problem. I arrived last night with 7 guests and myself. When the waitress approached the table, I asked if we could have separate checks. The waitress said she could only give one check but she could run everyone's card for an equal amount. I asked her if she would bring me the itemized check and I would separate it for each guest so they would hand her their card and their total bill amount. She said that was fine. We finished our meal and I got the check. With provided paper and pen, I separated everyone's tab and distributed the totals around the table. The waitress took everyone's card/cash and the notes with each tab to run at the register. She returned a few minutes later to inform me that the total was $30 short and said, This is why we don't like doing this here! I told her I have brought this group here 5 times before and separate checks were not a problem. She said she had worked here for 10 years and with the old computer system they had never been able to do "separate checks". I did not want to argue about this point. One of my guests pulled his credit card out and told her to put the $30 on it. This made the situation even more awkward. We all started handing him cash. I knew I was not $30 off on the check, so I reviewed the itemized bill. I saw that there was an extra $20 entree on the tab. 9 entrees and 8 guests. By this time everyone had signed their charge receipts and ADDED more tips to cover the missing $30. All she said was.....oops. She took Steve's card back to refund $20 onto it, I think. I was never clear on what happened with Steve's reimbursement.... Anyway the waitress not only got the $55 20% large party gratuity, but she also picked up around $25 more. This whole trainwreck ruined my evening and I had to apologize to everyone more than once. It was just so unnecessary. I would suggest that you put this new policy about no individual checks on parties larger than 6 at the bottom of your menu and place a sign on the maitre 'd podium.... unless this is not true and your waitress was just being lazy. I emailed this message to the management of the restaurant. I got no response. I will never step foot in this place again. read more

My first time visiting this cool little spot. If you're looking for a cool place with great art and some better wine please visit. I had the Midnight Kiss and it features Prosecco and Saint Germain which is a fave of mine. This drink came in a champagne glass and was accompanied by smooth jazz from a live band. They featured a live Jazz band with an amazing singer named Angeline who dedicated a song to me and my date. Although we opted to sit inside due to the humidity the outdoor area was well lit and filled with couples enjoying the night sky. This is a good place for date night and they are open until I think 2am which is good for those of us who work late sometimes. Another cool thing is you can sit. anywhere you like and they also have a lounge area. I didn't get any food I was just here for good drinks and great convo. I did hear that they have great apps.
