The food was ok but and at the beginning everything was good but!! We had ordered food to go and when we got our bill they had the nerve to put a. Automatic Tip on a TO GO ORDER . Then when we brought this issue up to the wit-tress she got offended and when she returned she gave us the receipt at us and gave us an attitude. We were floored that we just asked her a simple question!!! I will never come back to this place then to top it all off the hosts appeared to be offended!!!! And looking at us up and down. Went last night after not being there for several years. Thought I would give it another try. The service was poor and they were not even busy.. I had to ask for the menus. The waiter did not ask if we had any questions or if they had any specials. No one came over to ask how everything was once we were served. The paella only had one small piece of chicken in it. Was kind if hard to right this review because with only giving 2 stars up against constant 4/5's i thought that maybe i got something wrong. But, after reading thru the reviews i know i definitely didnt. (One 4 star review was given after food poisoning!!!) Anyway, this place is.... old, in so many ways.. The decor - confusing layout, 3 front doors, twist and turns thru a what looks like used to a be a deli only to bring you into a bland room with aged frescos,murals and terrible ceilings The ambiance - clean but, musty and dank... it had an old down the shore kinda feel to it with all the regulars who may just not know better or are there only as a matter of convenience . The food - over salted, over cooked and boring as hell. Alentejana is what i ordered. the Carne de Porco à Alentejana is one of the most traditional Portuguese dishes found on the menus of Portuguese restaurants so you should get this perfect for a portuguese restaurant. But they missed by a long-shot... The name Carne de Porco Alentejana was to distinguish that the pork used in the dish is from that region of the country which produces the Black Iberian Pig. The meat from the Iberian pig has a higher fat content which produces a more tender and flavorful meat. Well. Not this one. Real bland salty and pork was hard as rock Sides were just as bad... The plating - powdered mashed potatoes with hard veggies is just tired and lazy Even the people felt old the Thursday night dinner... felt more like a retirement home early bird special crowd It all feels old.... 2 stars are for the decent service and amazing international wine list. Service was pretty good but, in a 80's wedding kinda of way.. it was attentive but, not quite the white glove service they are trying for or maybe just they are trying to hard to give you an "expensive" experience with the overpriced entrees. Fantastic experience! I stopped here while driving back south from upstate NY, and I am so glad I did! The service, food and atmosphere were all absolutely stellar. The place was still a bit empty at 12:15 (this was on Labor Day), but it quickly filled up. As an appetizer I had Mediterranean Octopus, which was perfectly prepared, seasoned and presented, piping hot! Next I had the Monkfish. This was where they impressed me: I asked for a bit of red pepper flakes, and I got a house-prepared seasoning of pepper and oil. It went perfectly with the dish! Washed down with a glass of house Pinot Noir. To anyone driving upstate, or back, by all means stop by here! read more

I did not eat here, but wanted to. I had called for a reservation for two people at 5:00 PM. I was told by the gentleman answering the phone that no reservations were needed, just come on in. I drove 45 minutes to the restaurant only to be told that no tables were available, try again some other time. When I told the desk man that I was told "come on in", no reservations needed, he responded "I'm sorry, we are full". I then asked, "why would they tell me just 45 minutes ago to come in if you knew that you would be full??" He replied "I'm very sorry, but we can not help you. goodbye". He then walked away. So I could lie and say that I was there to scout out a place for a BIG company event, but in reality, all I wanted was a decent fish dinner. However, if this is how the staff treats ANY potential customer, I know right away that this place will never get any of my business. One star for having a parking space in front of the restaurant. Terrific restaurant with impeccable service. Menu has outstanding variety of fresh fish from Portugese specialties to trout with almonds, along with steaks, chops and poultry. Like Sabrina W., I am crazy for the shrimp in cognac sauce. I've been trying to convince the owner to share the recipe for ten years (a family secret, unfortunately). They offer the largest oysters I've ever seen. Really unusual. I can usually only get through 3 or 4 and I often have to cut them in half. Service always starts with a terrific bread basket and a small plate of sliced chorizo (sometimes crab cakes at night). Dinner and lunch finish with a plate of fresh grapes. Small touches, but incredibly welcoming! It's sometimes enough to wave off the dessert tray, but I recommend the chocolate mousse and flan if you have room. The owner is a real gentleman and remembers his customers (which is part of why you'll need reservations on a weekend) and he or the friendly waiters will occasionally comp an after dinner drink to the table for his regulars (of which, I am sure I can be counted). Nice selection of wines, including Spanish and Portugese specialties, and of course a list of ports. Quiet setting for serious foodies. Someday I will try a lobster out of their large tank, which seems to be a favorite dish of the crowd, but between the oysters and the shrimp, I am very content. We had lunch here on a Saturday and it did not live up to it's 4 star rating on Yelp. First off, their website which has the dinner menu with prices said that they have similar items for lunch with lunch prices. But the menu that we were handed at lunch had the same prices as the dinner. I had intended to ask the waiter if we had been given the dinner menu before we ordered but I forgot. We did ask for the ceviche that people raved about on the reviews and the waiter said that they didn't have such a dish?? Darn, this was one of the reasons that I chose this place. Food - 3 stars. The meat of my roasted duck was quite dry and the sauce was what saved it. My fiance's salmon similarly had little flavor in the meat, and it was the hollandaise sauce that gave it flavor. We were only one of 2 tables so the kitchen wasn't busy. Decor - 4 stars. Nicely decorated with fresh flowers on the tables. Service - 3 stars. I rate based on the price range, so at inexpensive restaurants I expect to call out to get my water refilled, and at expensive restaurants I expect to have my bread crumbs scraped away for me at the end of each course. This restaurant's service fell squarely where it should have been for the price. Value - 3 stars. I was thinking 2.5 given that lunch was very pricey and nothing amazing (overdone meats with good sauce). They do have good bread and offer free veggies and rice/beans as a side. My daughter lives close by and we have been there a number of times. We went about a week ago to celebrate her birthday. I happened to order the bouillabaisse that had assorted shellfish. I was extremely disappointed as the shrimp and lobster in the dish was not cooked properly and was hard. My wife had a seafood combo dish and she said her shrimp was also hard. Yes, after I set this table for no one, put some flowers in a vase, and then go get the water pitcher. Can we please have menus? Yes, after I seat these people, talk to a bus boy about his mother, and then go look for menus. The paella was flavorful but uneven - the chicken was pretty gross and the shrimp was horribly overcooked. The crab legs were okay, but tiny. Kids menu had no vegetables. Appetizers were uninspired and overpriced. Didn't do dessert - the meal had gotten so leisurely we had to get out of there. Great place to have a casual yet delicious meal. The food was fresh, the service was prompt and the atmosphere was comfortable. My husband had oysters that were freshly shucked and grouper with a shrimp sauce which was covered with large shrimp. I ordered the rack of lamb and it was tender and delicious. It should be mentioned it was a full 9 rib rack! Unheard of at most fine restaurants. Each main course was served with fresh vegetables and potatoes, rice and beans. It is a privilege to voluntarily write a review of a restaurant simply because everything about it is top notch. Thus is the case with Aquario Restaurant in Silver Lake, New York. My parents live a hop, skip and a jump away and became instant fans the day they first stepped foot inside, years ago, and relished their meal with friends. Since then they've been regularly patronizing the establishment and recommending it to friends and family. I live five hours away, but, due to their raves, have always wanted to try it when I visit. Aquario Restaurant became my new favorite venue for seafood! (In fact, I'm mostly a vegetarian but make the exception for Aquario ... OK, and premier sushi ever so rarely.) There is a reason people travel long distances for the first rate dining experience Aquario proffers, and Manuel Cabral, the owner, makes everyone feel like family, welcoming customers as we enter the restaurant. First time customer and I ordered a chicken and the seafood paella entrees for take out. I liked the seafood paella and it included lobster. Had dinner for the first time at this really great Portuguese restaurant in west Harrison. When you walk in, you see this fresh seafood display on ice. The Calde Verde soup was the best I've ever had in any Portuguese restaurant in the tri-state area. I had the grill pompano fish with a side order of Broccoli rabe and rice and beans. Just amazing! I took a picture to send to my friends. See in my post! My girlfriend had the grilled cod fish and she loved it! The service was excellent and we were actually served by the owner of the restaurant. Dinner was very well priced including a bottle of wine came out to $87 plus tip. This is going to be my new favorite seafood restaurant. Should have rated 4.5 stars. BUT... I've been to this restaurant many times. It has always been a very good experience. The food is carefully prepared and very delicious. We had The Fisherman's stew which is stellar in my opinion and a very generous portion meant for two to split. The tri-color salad was also so fresh, well prepared and well- dressed. My daughter had a special dessert made from egg whites and fresh fruit that she was too full to finish, she had said, but somehow it all disappeared into her mouth. The very disappointing, and surprisingly rude service is what ruined what should have been an enjoyable evening. we found out only toward the end of our meal that they were low on staff. Which we would have been happy to be understanding of, if someone had told us. No one came by to see if we needed anything. No bus boy came buy to fill our water glasses. And when we asked for boxes for our leftovers, the boxes were literally tossed on our table and we again were promptly ignored. When our host went to speak to a manager, she ran into our waiter. After she asked for the manager he and another worker laughed loudly at her when she turned to come back to the table. Finally another waiter came to our table and helped us with the end of our meal. It was a very frustrating and unpleasant experience in contrast to the wonderful food. I hope the owner will respond to this review as we have loved this restaurant and have taken many people here over the years, for special dinners. Well let me begin by saying that we never had dinner. We had a reservation and and received a text advising us that our table was ready 20 minutes before our reservation time. We arrived at exactly our reservation time. As I read in other reviews, there was no host or maitre d to greet us. We waited awkwardly for someone to acknowledge us and finally after at least 6 waiters passed us a waiter asked, 2 for dinner? I said, well yes, but we have a reservation. He said let me get a table ready for you. The restaurant was less than half full and I had already received the text telling me that my table was ready, but ok. We stood there for 20 minutes and no one ever came back to seat us, we finally left. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed. We were looking for something a little different and definitely found it here at Aquario. The outside of the restaurant is misleading because when you enter you see that there is an understated elegance inside. Even though you are on a busy street the view from the main dining room is lovely - large windows overlooking trees unobstructed by cars, poles, what have you. I started with the sardines, served whole, and they were delicious. My wife had the Caldo Verde, a green potato based soup, and she was not disappointed. For my main course I had to try the Bacalhau (salted dried cod). Not like momma used to make but then again she was Sicilian and this is a Portuguese restaurant. Still I couldn't help but be reminded of my youth. Her version had the fish simmering in a tomato sauce and here it's smothered in garlic. Yummy! My wife had the Chilean Sea Bass. The portions were large and the food tasty. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how attentive the wait staff was and our server recommended a very nice wine from the Douro region of Portugal. Went to Aquario in west Harrison last week during a week night. Had a terrible experience when the waiter and manager did not return my credit card. I went up and inquired and it was given or taken by another customer of whom they said they knew and was a regular. Meanwhile, i have already been delayed 30 min now and upset about my credit card. In stead of them being apologetic they actually had an attitude with me and said I should come back tomorrow while they see if they can reach the person who has my card. So the onus was put on me and not them. They were not putting forth an effort to reclaim my card so I called the police and they came and were very helpful. Now I am waiting 45 min and no credit card. As a result of the police coming, the restaurant mgr contacted the person who had my card and had him return it. So an hour goes by now and then I get my card. There were only 3-4 tables of people there, although they tried to tell the police that my card was on the bar and got mixed up and that was not true. They also denied telling me to return the next day for my card. They totally did not take responsibility for taking my card from me and making sure I get it returned. Terrible way of handling this entire issue and very very unprofessional. A total lack of regard for me as a customer. RR read more

We ordered over the phone for delivery on a rainy night. The food was fabulous! We got tomato and mozzarella salad, and then New Bedford squid, which were delicious. Then we the ordered jumbo shrimp and the Mariscada, which were both amazing. It all came with vegetables, rice and beans, and bread. The driver was delightful, calling to make sure he knew where to bring the food. This was a great feast. We enjoyed it and highly recommend this restaurant to all who live seafood. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Not only do they have great food, but I feel like they provide you with an experience. They do little simple things that make me loving coming here. They give you hot chorizo and bread when you sit and grapes with ice after your meal. The staff is always nice, accommodating and they make you feel like family. I always get the shrimp in cognac sauce appetizer or entree because the flavor is just amazing. Everything comes out steaming hot and I have never been disappointed with a meal.
