Well, here I am. I decided I wanna learn how to cook different kind of pancakes. And for that purpose I needed things like baking powder, baking soda, vanilla sugar and semolina. I created a list and went to Arbat Deli because I suspected they have all this things. And they did ! I've got everything I needed. Even more than that. Their staff assisted me in a very proper way and was willing to advise me. By the way they speak Russian which is a plus. Definitely, you can find things there you are not gonna be able to find anywhere else. Even though I might be not that familiar with the area around (concerning ingredients to cook food). Can be. If someone would think that they are nice only to Russians - IT IS NOT TRUE. I speak Russian fluently, grew up in Russian community and being rude is something very common in Russian stores and it doesn't matter if you're Russian or not. I would say there was one young girl who was nice to me however she was not patient with older man(he was a little deaf) and I wanted to help him because we all are going to be old one day and might need help. But she was annoyed by that. The owner lady, who is cooking all the food(I must admit that the food is delicious and fresh) is OBNOXIOUSLY RUDE. I ordered food and while I was looking for money , I simply asked if I can have a receipt and she answered "pay first" and it was not like she was joking , she had angry face. Well, obviously I'll pay but it's not the way you treat customers. So bottom line : I give 2 stars because of food but I'll never ever give higher rate if there's zero customer service. read more

This is my new fave Russian Deli. The dishes prepared in the kitchen in back have been fresh every time I've ordered and if you are a fan of eggplant (like me) you will be delighted by their salads. I usually get the eggplant w onion, garlic and mayo. If its sold out, will get w garlic and cilantro or pepper or all... Also like the hard beef "narezhka"Have only good things to say about the service. The ambiance is a bit too Soviet for me, hence 4 vs 5 stars. From 4 stars to 2... Really nice people there there was one Uzbeki sales lady who was super helpful really made shopping there a total pleasure. They have a nice variety of foods many of which are homemade. The fact that this place has a variety of Russian food DOESN't make it exceptionally good. There are dozens of Russian delis and bakeries around. This place is very unpleasant to visit, and I tried many times, thinking maybe that wasn't a good day or a good time..But no! Arbat Deli is pricey and has rude, loud, not friendly, pushy sales people and the same loud unpleasant atmosphere. All the times that I went there I was lied to, pushed to buy things, even though they were not what I was looking for, over charged, and ignored. And here I have to mention...I am Russian, and I speak Russian and I know my people, so these people disappoint me even more, because they are used to be unique for the neighborhood, people will still come to shop at their store, so they treat you as if YOU are the only one who needs THIS, NOT THEM...oh NO, NOT THEM AT ALL. I go weekly for their roasted marinated garlic and cilantro eggplant strips. They are yummy and I find the service adequate but I come for the prepared food not to socialize. I have tried most and love the baba ganoush (Israeli salad), borscht, walnut homemade cookies, cabbage salad, smoked pork ribs and pelmeni. First I walked into the store and asked if they have frozen Black current berries and young lady said yes and that it is seven dollars, so I went next-door to the bakery, bought all I needed and then came back to Arbat deli but nobody was at the store so I had to say hello is anybody there and a lady came out in the red vest and I said how much are you black currants and she said seven dollars but yet on the receipt it showed that she charged me $7.99 so I came back and there was a third lady at the store and I asked her how much are your frozen black currant and she said seven dollars so I told her that I have been overcharged and she took the receipt went in the back talked to that lady in the red vest came out and said that the lady in the red vest is the one who makes up the prices, I said why don't you have prices on the products and she said are you going to give me your attitude right before the new year?!, so I just turned around and left but before that I told her that they should have prices on the products so people would know how much they are paying. Please don't waste your time and never go to that store since they will lie to you about the prices and will sell you expired food!!! Oh, I needed to buy juice and I saw that it had expired in June 2021 and the lady didn't even care to take it off the shelf after I told her that the product had expired. I wouldn't give any star. Terrible shop! Last week bought Pastila (like marshmallows) and when came home, saw that its expired. In a couple of days brought it back, they didn't accept it, said I should have brought it earlier or shouldn't have bought it if its expired. Horrible! Great Russian food store!! I like this place and used to come here way too much, till I realized that they're spoiling me. Arbat has a very good kitchen and can cook practically anything you ask them too for a very affordable price. In my opinion, their fresh fruits and vegetables produce doesn't consist of a huge variety. I'd try and stick to cooked goods and the fridge If I were you. This review is about my own experience at Arbat Deli. I shop here regularly and never had a bad shopping experience. They always have very delicious and fresh food. Their store is clean and doesn't have funny weird smells like other Russian stores around that area. I always order kebabs and other grilled meat(chicken, fish) with side dishes for family gatherings. The whole family of mine enjoys and never leaves leftovers. I also order marinated meat (always juicy and fresh)for picnics but I'm not sure if they do it for me for being their regular customer. Their customer service has never been bad to me. So let me tell you one thing, I personally can't deal with their customers because most of them always have attitudes and never happy about anything. Some of the things they do while shopping are just ridiculous and they want the poor cashier ladies deal with them?! Overall, this is my favorite Russian store to go to for so many years now.
