Horrible establishment. I asked over the phone about the availability of a certain medication. They told me it was in stock and also confirmed the price. I drove to buy it, 20 miles away. I had such a wonderful experience at Mechta! I arrived close to closing time, but Valya and Lyena were so incredibly patient and kind. I never felt rushed; they truly encouraged me to take my time. Complete RACIST establishment! My Russian friend called and spoke with a lady over the phone regarding if they had a certain type of medicine in stock. The lady over the phone stated that they had a similar type of medicine in stock. We arrived at the location and asked the lady regarding the medicine I asked about. The lady with an upset/angry expression told us that they don't have it. We informed her that my friend just called not too long ago regarding the medicine and then she raised her voice saying, "No!" If you are not Russian, good luck! You will be treated worse than a turd on the road. Stay far away from this horrible place. read more

I love this place!! I buy their BBQ, shrimp salad, chicken cutlet, oliveye, smoked salmon and more regularly. The food is always delicious. I recently tried the baked salmon it was amazing. Aside from the cooked prepared foods, I also buy my fruits and vegetable here because it's always fresh. I'm a pretty big fan of their tea selection. They have so much variety and flavors I haven't seen. They also have a huge variety of honey. The employees can seem quiet at first but they are super helpful and nice. Terrible shop. When you go inside you feel like you find yourself in the USSR. smells bad, people are angry and not friendly. the food doesn't look appetising . I bought 2 small salads, chicken dumplings and small caviar. came out at $ 45. Updated - Another Wonderful experience! This is my second year having them cater my New Years Eve party and I couldn't be happier. I ordered various salads, red pepper/eggplant ikra, puff pastries, black caviar and sturgeon fish. I told them I wanted something super elegant/fancy for my party and they over delivered!!! I rely on them to cater bdays, etc and I always talk to Val or Alla who are always super helpful with my order. I had no idea where to begin when ordering and they always give me a run down of what's available and what pairs well. The worst customer service! Experienced screaming and yelling at customers by the cashiers. Very rude and unprofessional. The cashiers make customers wait until they finish their chit chat. The sad part I double checked with her to make sure she would put all of order in the bag and she said yes. Now lets get this straight, I know Zero about Russian food! I walked in before an eye appointment across the street and asked the lady what was good! I told her to choose.. She gave me a potatoe pastry, stuffed pepper and a stuffed crepe. All were delicious except the rolled crepe. Today an older lady choose the stuffed cabbage and cheese pastry. I inhaled them! This place has some very good food! I myself prefer the stuffed bell peppers, stuffed cabbage and cheese flakey cheese pastry. I tried the frozen dumpling type things and they were good too. I'm sure there's a real authentic name for the yummy things I've talked about but Sorry I don't know them :) Plus I'd probably butcher the spelling anyway! It was funny how I got a side eye when I first came, and the customers still usually ĺook at me crazy! I get it! My lingo is off, my ordering is - What's that, what about this, is it good, do you have them peppers? ROFL, but the service is good and they are very patient with my foolishness! I've been to Mechta Deli about a dozen times, and am proud to say that this is one of the better Russian food stores. They have a great selection and prices on all of their cooked goods are very affordable, a wish come true! Also, they have the best selection of herbs and medicine making them the number one place to go to if you were to self medicate and be a healthy Russian. I shop here on almost a daily basis, and its definitely one of the best deli stores I have been to. They have fresh food made everyday, so you can run in and buy a salad, piroshki, BBQ and more! Their BBQ is incredible. They have a wide selection of Russian herbs, teas, oils, and natural medicine. Their produce is always fresh and sold at a great price. I had them cater AT MY HOUSE for my b-day for over 50 ppl at an incredibly reasonable price and I asked If they offer full service including setup, servers, and clean-up and they made it happen! They BBQed at my house so the BBQ was hot and fresh right off the skewer. Bought a potato pie yesterday. Found two blond hair in one pie while I was eating it. It was really disgusting I almost vomited. Also I bought a shrimp salad which my my girlfriend ate for dinner. After 15 minutes her stomach was getting crazy... We thought it was something else till she ate the same salad next day. Her stomach started getting crazy again and she vomited couple of times!!! The store is tiny but carries variety of things: fresh fruits/veggies, pickled things, dry foods, frozen foods, sweets, you name it! It was a bit weird to see 'already cooked' items such as 'plov' - rice and meat dish, 'katlety' - gourmet meat patties / giant squished meatballs and similar items sold from a back counter which was not refrigerated and saw a few flies hanging out. Shop, Mechta, is a very expensive store, here prices are 3-5 times higher than usual, so there are almost no visitors there. I have been to Mechta Deli a handful of times. I am not impressed with the selection of prepared foods and other Russian goods sold at Mechta. The counter staff are rude and obnoxious, which unfortunately has become the norm for most Russian Delis/stores. One would think that customer service at Russian stores would have improved by now with the younger generation maturing and assisting with the operation of their family business. Mechta is one of the best Russian Delis I have seen. As soon as you walk into the store, you know you have just crossed international lines into Russia. I have been here at least a dozen times now, and each time gets better and better. I ordered the Golubtsi which was great, and then took some Kvass and Prianik to go, both were great compliments to the Golubsti and tasted great. Also the service is great, very friendly and nice. The place is clean and the food is pretty good but not consistent . I bought some salads and fried fish and it was yummy . So in a couple of days I went again bought the same thing and it was awful no salt the fish tasted fishy and soggy and oily not crunchy like the 1st time .
