I visited several furniture stores and was greeted promptly, was able to see an enormous amount of furniture, especially at Furnitureland South, where I placed a large order. I was still looking for four or five items and stopped into Britt Carter to see if I could find anything that I would like as I am in the market for high end to luxury furniture. I walked in on Wednesday and the girl sitting behind the desk did not acknowledge me, not even a "hello" or 'can we help you." I walked the entire store freely snapping pictures of items that looked interesting to me assuming someone would approach me. I was the only customer in the store the whole time. That didn't happen and when I left, the same girl did not even look up from her phone to at least say goodbye. Nothing said. I realized at that moment that this would never be a retail establishment that I would do business with. So right in the parking lot, I texted a photo of the beautiful item I saw there to my sales person in High Point and I ordered that exact item at a significant lower price from her. As an interesting side note, the artist/decorator I am working with in my renovation told me he brought a client into Britt Carter recently - he was looking for a lot of items and they were completely ignored as well. He assumed it was because they were in work clothes having just completed an installation at the house. The client refused to stay since he was not being acknowledged and they went down the street to Job Youshaei and the client spent $80,000. My decorator did call and speak directly to Britt about this but it doesn't look like things have changed. I'm guessing that, even though their sign on the outside says that they are open to the public, they really prefer to work with decorators with appointments. If that is really what they want their business model to be, that is entirely their prerogative, but be transparent about it. I would not return except to get some great photos of lovely furniture that I could actually order elsewhere for a lower price and exceptional customer service.

It's a nice shop with some lovely items. What drew me in was seeing some nice photo frames when I peeked in the windows; they had some nice ones but not quite what I was looking for. They had 15% off Christmas stuff when I was in but I didn't see anything I needed (and other similar shops I'd visited in Uptown, Andersonville, Wilmette, and even down the street in Winnetka had 40-60% off Christmas items, so it was easy to pass). Staff were friendly and I was greeted by both employees within moments of entering, both happy to help me find anything if needed. If you're looking for a gift, decorating a home, or need advice on either, Madarine Home would not be a bad place to shop. There's a step in order to enter the store, so you may want to call and find out if they have an accessible entrance if you can't manage the step. Hillary (and team) were exceptional when it came to designing my custom shoe closet! In the master…read moresuite, I have four large closets adjacent to one another, two in one hall. I was hoping to designate this end hall (closer to the entry of suite) to a shoe closet, and Hillary helped me properly select and design the space. The two closets we considered are similar in size, but one is slightly wider. We went back and forth between these two closets, seeing how/where we could maximize the shoe capacity. We also debated between the Senzafine and the Ubek systems, and found out the Senzafine worked better in either of these two closets. After some time of playing with different ideas, we chose the slightly smaller closet and the Senzafine Night Walk-in System with inclined shoe shelves. The shoe shelves design has the option of LED lighting per shelf. With our final design, we managed to create a space that would accommodate nearly 80 pairs of shoes in one closet. I was so thrilled. The shoe closet and install is a 5month process (not including August/December). I am looking forward to the install in November-ish! Next, we are designing my son's large closet for clothes, shoes, and misc.; and, two guest bedroom closets. HIGHLY recommend Hillary and crew from Poliform! We loved meeting Hillary and working with her, and look forward to designing the rest of the closets with her!
