My boyfriend and I stopped here for a late Sunday night dinner. We were craving pho but the pho place nearby was closed, but Arigato was open! Service was fast and walked the line between friendly and reserved, which is perfectly ok in my book. We started with complimentary cream cheese (I'm guessing) wontons and edamame while we decided what to order. We both ended up with the tempura udon and a rock and roll...roll. The broth of the udon was delicious and not too salty and the noodles were thick and flavorful. The tempura shrimp was crispy and not greasy. The egg in the udon was good, but my favorite is still the egg from Daikaya in DC. The salad that comes with the meal was just ok, nothing to write home about. I feel like the portion size was a really great value and I left feeling full and satisfied. The rock and roll...roll was delicious and tasted fresh, perfect for sharing with a large bowl of udon. Hands down the best Sushi joint in Northern VA. If you disagree then tell me a place...and don't tell me "Tsunami sushi" or "Sakura" The place is always kept nice. I love the decor and it's nice and cozy yet feels very classy. The service has always been excellent. For a Japanese restaurant it's run by all Koreans. (but that's all too common) They always are near by and always attentive when you need a refill or need to make an order. The owner is very friendly and will make you feel at home. Now on to the food. Yes, their sushi is served fresh and with fresh ingredients. I've never been disappointed and I've been here many, many times. The people who roll the Sushi are great at what they do. They never rush making the rolls and it's always the same people making the rolls. Makes me feel confident that I know the food will be made properly. This is what sushi eating is all about. Sure there are better sushi joints but this one is the best in Northern Virginia. Pretty good sushi with decent prices - nigiri sushi ranges from $4.50-6.00. Special rolls were around the $6-17 range. Rice was a TINY bit dry (then again, we came around 8pm on Sunday night), but the fish tasted fresh. Service was prompt, as was the food. They offer Dinner Bento Boxes, which is kind of rare for sushi restaurants in my personal opinion but my FRIEND disagrees. Apparently, at Korean-sushi restaurants, as this one is, Dinner Bento Boxes are the norm. Can someone verify this?? It's located at the end of a shopping strip. Nothing fancy, but the decor was nice, featuring wood furniture. Brightly lit. Ambience, really chill. The only thing consistent about Arigato, is it's inconsistency. On my first ever visit here, I really didn't like it. Thought the sushi was mediocre at best, along with the service. But, as this is my girlfriend's regular spot, I could not dismiss it in a single go. So after a few more visits, we've had quite the range of experiences: from abysmal service where they virtually forgot about our table, to nights like tonight, where it was some of the best sushi I've ever had. I'm at a loss as to what to attribute this, but it may have something to do with the particular chef that night, the wait staff, or when they get their food deliveries. I don't know. But, just note whenever you do try it, that you will most likely not have the same experiences consecutively. So, I will continue to go back for the sake of tradition, dining with good friends, and because I do (for the most part) enjoy the experience and the sushi. read more

I'm wirth Berto on this one, this place is the bomb, especially for their bentobox. We drive so far just to go here because their box is great. Not too expensive and what you get in it. Their tempura is always amazing. Nice and crispy, I will concede that the brocolli hasn't been as crispy as the past but not enough to lose a whole star!!! My boss took me here and I will definitely go back. The chefs and owner are very friendly and attentive. We had salmon and tuna and (toro?) sashimi. Also had the miso soup and and broccoli. The fish tasted fresh and the food came out to us very quickly as we were there right after the lunch rush. I think that this is one of the better sushi places I have been too, and it definitely helped that the service was great. I never really got to look at the menu because my boss ordered but there looked like there were some good cocktails at this place. I think it may be a little pricey - but the food was worth it. Went in at 8:30 on a Monday night. There were three other tables there. Ordered sashimi, sushi, rolls, and tempura; adding up to $93. Sushi was mediocre at best. The best thing was tempura. Other than the fact that my sashimi wasn't cut completely (LOL) food was whatever. The service however was disgusting. I would ask for something and would never get a reply back. The three waitresses and the younger sushi man was busy talking so loud in their language they couldn't see when I raised my hands up for water or the check- which they wouldve been happy if I asked for. When we stood up and left at 9:45, none of the five employees said a single thank you. I've wasted my money on mediocre food and tip on terrible service, where I could've gotten so much better anywhere else. My family and I have been going to Arigato for the past 15 years and one thing I really appreciate is how consistent quality, service, and value, are at this wonderful "neighborhood" sushi place. There is something for everyone... For my daughter with fish allergies, several non-fish alternatives... For my very picky, doesn't like anything son..plenty of Arigato balls and teriyaki chicken. I am more of a sashimi kind of guy (thick cut), and their 25 piece sashimi platter is the best served sashimi entree I have been served around town. But what really keeps us coming is the service and kindness of all the staff. We typically go for dinner on Friday night and it is hard for me to remember a night where the owner wasn't there greeting patrons, taking orders, cleaning tables, etc. I really recommend this place, and hope you get to enjoy it as much as me and my family do. We were a party of two and perhaps they cared less because other parties were bigger, who knows?! Waitress got my order wrong and brought or sides to the lunch boxes out at different times, the lunch box is not worth it if you get the katsu because they give you a small chicken breast, and two kinds of pickled veggies just to take up space in the box ... I got lunch box B. The shumai was mainly dough, not shrimp and tasted/felt microwaved, it had a chewy outside. And the breaded chicken (katsu) was peeling off, so not cooked or prepared correctly. Wouldn't recommend. Service was extremely hap hazard, we asked for a box, it didn't come for almost 10 minutes, then someone else asked if we wanted a box. Anyway, they didn't seem to have a strong handle around lunch time. Post the check, they asked me if I wanted a refill for my tea.... Of course I did but not as I was packing up to go... D'oh?! I went to pick up in 30 mins after making an order. I ended up waiting almost 45 mins more in the restaurant. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night and the food was great. We started with the little wontons filled with cheese, because they were mentioned so many times on here! They were good and not too greasy from being fried. I wish I remember the names of all the rolls we tried but the toro and yellow tail were very fresh.
