Soup, pork and side dishes
Min Z.

During our quiet weekday lunch, we enjoyed five traditional side dishes like kimchi and potatoes. Our orders of seafood tofu soup and BBQ pork were delicious, with very generous portions. The service was also pleasant and courteous!

J Jam Bbong

We came on a weekend evening and it wasn't too busy. We ordered the J Jam Bbong, SukAh Soondubu, and Jjajangmyeon. The Jjajangmyeon was good/average, and executed well. The J Jam Bbong was decent, but the broth was a bit lackluster. SukAh Soondubu was great, and loved that the rice comes stone pot so the rice gets crispy. Service was good, and it's located in a plaza with plenty of parking.

Really delicious Korean food with warm, friendly service! I'll definitely be coming back for the authentic flavors!

Stainless steel bowl for rice and water
Judy N.

Delicious Korean food, we were all satisfied with our meals and would come back again. I got the DukManDoo, delicious broth and relatively good price compared to the other dish prices. One thing to note at Korean restaurants is that you really shouldn't try to modify a spicy dish to non-spicy (it won't be successful) so if you see a red (likely spicy) soup in pictures and do not like spice, then do NOT request it to be less/no spice as it probably will be spicy. (Some dishes are just meant to be!) Do not get me wrong, I LOVE spicy but have friends who do not like/want spice at all. The restaurant really tried to accommodate this and did their best. I give them credit, but really they should just tell you not to modify. Also, one thing to note is that if you get the soondubu chigae the rice will come in a hot stone bowl. They bring some stainless steel bowls with some water, place your rice into the stainless bowls right away and then you can add the water into the (hot) stone bowl to enjoy your crispy rice from the stonebowl. They did not explain it to us (yes, we are Korean but an explanation was needed!) so thought I'd mention in case it's helpful to others. Overall, very good food!

Sogogi Soondubu (Beef Tofu Soup)

Lovely spot in a strip mall, very welcoming, clean and efficient. The tofu soup and banchan was delicious and comes with raw egg to crack into your soup. The accompanying rice is served in a stone hot pot so don't forget to carve out some of the crispy rice at the bottom

Spicy Hot Plate Pork (forgot korean name)

Not sure why this place has a lot of low reviews, but me and my girlfriend enjoyed our meal at this place! We had the seafood soondubu, kimchi soondubu, and sizzling pork (forgot the real name). Both versions of the soondubu were excellent and we really liked how homestyle it tasted. We were also given rice on the side along with tons of banchan (side dishes), which we ate along with our meal. The pork was also excellent and wasn't too spicy despite its look. It was a bit oily but it still paired well with the complementary rice given. Wasn't very smoky as I thought it would taste but it was still excellent and again, very home-style feeling Korean food. Atmosphere here was good in my opinion. There is good warm lighting to help you feel relaxed and you have the option to be served free barley tea. Service for us was excellent; they would quickly refill our banchan if we asked as well as drinks or other items. I would definitely come back here for some comfort Korean food!

The pancakes we got were bot bad but the soup was amazing. Came with a bunch of sides and overall was very good and very filling. Service was good and the restaurant was clean and very home feeling.

Yvonne Z.

Every single dish that we ordered was bursting with flavor. Each one of the sides and main dishes were all . The crispyness of the rice in both the jighe and the bibimbap really blew me away, im a sucker for crispy rice. I also loved how the decor gave off asian grandma vibes. Plus, the service was amazing. We were checked on multiple times and always had our drinks and side refilled throughout the meal.

SO. GOOD. Amazing portions for the prices, everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and balanced, and I enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. Loved every single dish, and we crushed all the banchan. Everyone here was also really friendly and attentive. We got the Korean pancake as an appetizer; my husband ordered the spicy chicken bulgogi; and I got the hot beef bibimbap. Cannot recommend this place enough. A little hidden Korean gem in Rockville!

Kimchi soup, spicy beef soup with scallions, glass noodles.

Perfect place to eat out. Soup portions is a typical (hugger) bowls which we like. Glass noodles was full of flavor, mackerel was very delicious rice was very good, I can say that it is not cheap rice (oh yeah, I know what I'm taking about). I would say the price is right.

Been a loyal customer here for years. What I love about this place is the Korean comfort dishes such as Soondubu, Gamjatang, Dolsot Bibimbap and Kongbije Jjigae. I've known some of the servers for a long time- some of them worked at Woomi Garden. My parents and my Uncle frequented this place quite often. I think about my Dad and Uncle who passed away when I eat here. Recently, had the Gamjatang and I have to say it was quite satisfying. It was really rich and a thicker broth than usual which I really enjoyed. They still provide lots of banchan and service is fantastic. MoCo doesn't have many Korean restaurants so make sure you give Arirang a try if you are craving good Korean food.

Our favorite seafood pancake

The servers are still rude. Our family have been here tons and tons of time and the service has always been subpar. If the food was not so good, we would not patronize this place. I'm not sure why non Koreans are treated so abysmally here. We are not bad clients. We tip well, are not loud, and have great table manners. As an example, our server on this outing made a mistake and gave us someone else's order kimchi soup order. We thought it was odd but nonetheless we did not touch the soup but one other person in our group started on the rice. The server immediately came back and took the soup and rice servings back back and promptly served it to the other clients. This seems improper and unsanitary especially during the Covid pandemic. To make matters worse, the person in our table who had started eating out of the rice bowl had that same bowl unceremoniously taken out from under her. It was so unbecoming and rather ghastly behavior. We were in a state shock. No apologies and a sense to rush us out of the establishment by the server presenting the check and cleaning out the table when we were clearly still eating.

Any gluten-free options?

I like Korean food in general because they use a lot of rice noodles or sweet potato noodles. So yes there are GF options here if you look for those options.

Does this place have vegetarian options?

They have options that do not include meat, but I'm not sure whether all of the preparation is devoid of animal products. There is not a separate vegetarian or vegan menu.

The Bibimbap and Miso soup were tasty. There wasn't too much beef, but a lot of veggies. Our Chicken Fried Rice was good, but a little bland. Needed more seasoning. My wife said the Pig's Feet was good, so she liked that one. Our table service was fine.

Andrew is genuinely one of the best servers I've had anywhere. Super professional without feeling stiff, really easy to talk to, and just completely on top of everything. He managed the grill perfectly the whole time, paced the meat so nothing felt rushed or slow, and kept the heat just right without us ever having to ask. Our table never sat empty either. Banchan refills came out fast, drinks stayed full, and everything just flowed. What stood out the most was how seamless the entire experience felt. You don't realize how much that matters until you have someone who does it this well. It made the whole meal way more enjoyable. On top of that, the food here is already great and for $45 AYCE it's honestly a steal. But having Andrew take care of us twice now is what really made me want to leave this review. It was perfect with the veggies and sauces that were given. The rice and soup was delicious! My husband had two rounds eventhough we told him to save room. We then had the marinated boneless short rib, which was marinated perfectly and super flavorful and tender. We also ordered fried dumplings and a few rounds of ramen. The ramen was so delicious, especially when you add more veggies and meat. Overall, great ambiance and experience. The food is great, especially if you enjoy Korean bbq. Definitely worth a visit.

Speaking of videos, the only reason I found this place was through a TikTok, which offered a rave review and showed a packed restaurant. I guess this is how I know FoodTok has officially reached the mainstream, because I'm seeing more and more staged scenarios and dubious opinions. The only thing anybody had anything positive to say about was the rice, which was technically perfect. There is an old adage that goes, "you can judge a restaurant based on how well they cook their rice." But if you have a table full of food and the only thing people want to finish is the rice, then you've got a whole other problem.

The time limit and wait times between orders were reasonable, we all left super full with time to spare.
