Wang Jja Jang, a Korean-style Chinese restaurant on E Gude Drive in Rockville, MD, has a casual, no-frills atmosphere where what you see is what you get. It's an authentic Korean-Chinese eatery known for its outstanding Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and Jjamppong (spicy seafood soup). The Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pajeon) and Tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour pork) are also highly regarded as satisfying, high-quality options. The dishes we ordered were tasty, well-portioned, reasonably priced, and we understand why it's a popular local spot for comfort food.

We visited this place in November 2024. The place can be hard to find at night. All the exterior lights in the shopping center were off. Maybe they are remodeling the exterior of the shopping center. We ordered various Korean dishes and they were all delicious. If you want authentic Korean food, this place is worth a visit. Their soups are nice and hearty. The noodles are nice and chewy. Their side dishes are tasty too. They still accept cash and credit card. Great local business to check out. Staff here is friendly and the prices are reasonable.

One of rockvilles' best hidden gems, this chinese korean style of food, will leave you happy and wanting to come back all the time. I have been coming here for years (8 years give it take) the food has never disappointed the service has always been caring and attentive. My absolute favorite is the jajangmyeon with Tangsuyuk. Their steamed dumplings are also delicious. The place is also very cozy and comfortable for a nice weekday lunch.

We came to check out Wang Ja Jang on a snowy day, hearing how they serve up one of the better jjajangmyuns in the MD area. This piqued our interest, so we decided to give this place a try for an early lunch. We ordered the following: +Haemool Pajeon - while this had good taste, this was just way too overfried, making it a bit hard to eat; also, the seafood used could have been more fresh +Gan Jjajangmyun - probably one of the worst jjajangmyuns we've had - the sauce was not thick, nor did it have any flavor; the noodles were overcooked, and this was just inedible +Tang Soo Yuk - with beef; we requested this to be crispy, but this was not it; it seemed as if they had re-fried leftovers from the previous day or so; these were not fresh, and they were just too overfried in not-so-clean oil, that this was just pushed off to the side The staff were friendly, but it's literally one individual - if they're in the back, helping out in terms of getting phone orders and/or prepping meals, it's hard to request anything and/or get the check. Probably one of the worst Korean-Chinese restaurants we've been to. Small lot available in this tiny strip plaza. +overfried/refried in old oil +inedible jjajangmyun +friendly service +parking available in shared strip plaza lot

Ja Jang Myun Kan Poong Gi

I seem to always drive by this restaurant located in this tiny strip mall. My boyfriend and I were craving some Korean food and decided today is the day we tried Wang Ja Jang. Once we walked in, we were greeted by the owner and quickly sat. I started looking through their Yelp page and realized this was a mom and pop shop. Dining in there gave us such a warm and homey feeling. We ordered the jajangmyeon kan poong gi combo and the jam pong tang su yuk combo. For the price of these dishes, the portions were pretty big. Especially with the combo, it's the perfect amount to share. My bowl of jam pong was HUGE. The broth was the perfect amount of spicy and had a rich seafood flavor. It was filled with vegetables and a decent amount of seafood. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his jajangmyeon and kept mentioning it felt like he was eating in Korea haha. I had a bite of his dish and really enjoyed it as well The kanpoonggi was delicious and fried perfectly. The tang su yuk was the perfect amount of sweetness too. For the price, I would say this is a good deal! It looks like we found our go to Korean spot in the Rockville area.

Came here for dinner with friends on Tuesday around 4/430pm, and it was nice and quiet. I ordered the $9 jajangmyun, and the portion was large and generous for the size. I had some leftovers to take home. I enjoyed it and thought it was good. They also have combos that come with fried rice.

Huge yummy bowl of jja jang myun

Whoa... legit jja-jang-myun. Totally took me back to South Korea when I was a kid. It almost brought tears to my eyes. They even give you bori-cha instead of water which is soooo old school. Love it. We got an order of the jja jang myun and jjam ppong. Hands down the jja jang myun was winner. Too bad they don't do the jjam-jja option where you get a little bit of both types of dishes. Sometimes you just want a bit of both... but oh well. Oh and the prices. Soooo economical and for a gigantic portion... could have probably easily shared one bowl between the two of us. Location is very low key in a small strip mall. Check it out! You won't regret it. Btw. The bathrooms were clean too!

Great food. Good service. Not pictured: the complimentary corn silk tea, which was delicious.

Don't let the mismatched interior turn you away. Authentic as it can get, with good taste and friendly waitstaff. We were pleasantly surprised to find this so close to Rockville Ice rink. Definitely a spot for local Koreans; but menu has photos and English translations. jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) savory with perfect blend of sweet and salty, jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) bursting with spice and seafood. Solid kimchi (2 kinds). Prices are really reasonable for Korean and best part you don't have to drive to Annendale Va for Korean Chinese food. Looking forward to my next return- youth hockey travel hidden gem.

The food was decent but the issue was the long wait. I think they were understaffed so be prepared to wait. It was definitely a hole in the wall establishment. I struggle between 3.5 and 4 stars. It's really somewhere in between but I'm nice so I rounded up because I can tell they were understaffed. Came here to watch some lunar year events.

Steamed mandu and Yang jang pi

This has been our go to Korean place lately. Their steamed Mandu is my favorite comfort food! The filling is yummy and the dough is a little chewy and not super thin. Also pictured is yang jang pi. It's a great balance of veggies and meat.

Hits the spot for jajangmyun but can't beat the OG one that I dream about (located in College Park). Good flavor and price though!

Boo-hoo, look around and you'll find a spot unless you're driving a yacht. Now, to the setting and the food...the setting is the way I like it. Rustic, clean, unassuming, not fancied up. Wooden privacy screens are set in between tables. (Perhaps because of Covid? Not sure.) This to me was really comfortable, didn't feel like I was stuck in a cattle car. I'm sure there's Korean BBQ here but we weren't at such a table. In fact it looked like grills had been removed from some tables and replaced with wooden covers. So nice to have that extra space because... Ordered bibimbap, bulgogi, steamed dumplings, etc. The extra side dishes I enjoy (kimchi, sprouts, etc.) were there as well. Ice tea, yadda yadda. Korean music was playing but it wasn't loud, on another screen by the kitchen I could see Family Guy. Again, not loud or intrusive. Didn't feel like they skimped on portions, there was plenty. Almost too much, wasn't sure I'd manage to finish the bulgogi but I did...mmm. Overall, this place is a nice break from other places. If you want to take someone out and just enjoy yourselves, this would be it. Perhaps a bit different when full, but still. Btw, it's been 13 years since I first went here. This week was only the second time. I totally forgot where it was or whether it was still around. So glad it is.

THE FOOD We ordered the Chadol Premium Combo, which featured five delicious cuts of Angus beef accompanied by a bowl of soybean soup, fresh lettuce leaves, large pink pickled daikon slices, and three standard dipping sauces. We also added a salad and the cheese corn to round out the meal. Overall, the meat quality was excellent. * Unmarinated Short Rib: Simple, high-quality, and quite tasty. * Boneless Ribeye: Prepared with rosemary and butter, making it an incredibly rich and flavorful bite. * Marinated Boneless Short Rib: Prepared with sesame and garlic. Because this cut is closer to the bone, it was flavorful and tender. As a bonus, the fried garlic left at the bottom of the pan after cooking was absolutely delicious. * Marinated Galbi Short Rib: Very tender and surprisingly flavorful without leaning too sweet, which was a great balance. * Pickled Chayote: Made with chopped onions and jalapeños. This side was refreshing and flavorful, serving as palate cleanser between rich bites of beef. THE SERVICE * Our server, Kaitlyn, took a no-nonsense, efficient approach to our meal. She helped start the grilling process and dropped by periodically to fire up the next batch of meats and refill our banchan and water. Tip: You have the option to cook everything yourself, but if you want assistance, simply flip the table sign to request help with the grill. OVERALL A clean environment for high-quality Korean BBQ with solid, efficient service and excellent cuts of meat.
