New favorite authentic Korean restaurant! How did I not know this was here?? Apparently I've been missing out for years. Small space, great eats. We had a bit of everything: naengmyeon, beef and seafood soondubu, mandu, sweet & sour chicken, and jjampong. Jjampong lacked some seasoning (would not recommend) and they don't do very spicy for any for the dishes but overall well balance for Chino-Korean cuisine. read more

Rating is about a 4.5 but rounding up. I've been missing jjajangmyeon for the past four plus years since I left my best source of it. I've tried it at a couple other places in the area and been underwhelmed, the one here is quite good, second only to my holy grail version which is sadly in a state I don't plan to revisit. We also had a seafood panjeon and it was excellent - tons of seafood and vegetables, a crisp breading that didn't feel doughy at all. The food was served with a couple banchan (radish, cabbage kimchi and the pickled radish + raw onion that is usually served with jjajangmyeon). The prices are great for Korean food; the jjajangmyeon was 10.99, pancake 19.99 and hubs and I brought about half of each home. We probably could have gotten away with just ordering one or the other but having leftovers is golden. We'll be back to try some other items on the menu! read more

We drive by before on several occasions and finally stopped by to try it. It was around 6:30-7pm on a Tuesday and we were the boy customers, except one lady came to pick up while we were dining there. Our food was made to order and came out quite fast, we can hear the uncle (assuming) in the back firing up the wok. The lady spoke both Korean and Chinese, and we learned they're from Yan Bian. We ordered the jajang myun and tang su yuk combo, and a sulluntang. The sizes were not enormous, but good sized for us 2 people. All the dishes were solid. The sulluntang brother was rich, when it cooled it formed a nice "skin" layer on top. It's made with juicy brisket and noodles, comes with white rice as standard. Tang su yuk was crispy. Highly recommend this place, seems very homey and like a mom and pop run place. Would def return when I'm craving Korean-Chinese food again! read more

We visited this place in November 2024. The place can be hard to find at night. All the exterior lights in the shopping center were off. Maybe they are remodeling the exterior of the shopping center. We ordered various Korean dishes and they were all delicious. If you want authentic Korean food, this place is worth a visit. Their soups are nice and hearty. The noodles are nice and chewy. One of rockvilles' best hidden gems, this chinese korean style of food, will leave you happy and wanting to come back all the time. I have been coming here for years (8 years give it take) the food has never disappointed the service has always been caring and attentive. My absolute favorite is the jajangmyeon with Tangsuyuk. We came to check out Wang Ja Jang on a snowy day, hearing how they serve up one of the better jjajangmyuns in the MD area. This piqued our interest, so we decided to give this place a try for an early lunch. We ordered the following: +Haemool Pajeon - while this had good taste, this was just way too overfried, making it a bit hard to eat; also, the seafood used could have been more fresh +Gan Jjajangmyun - probably one of the worst jjajangmyuns we've had - the sauce was not thick, nor did it have any flavor; the noodles were overcooked, and this was just inedible +Tang Soo Yuk - with beef; we requested this to be crispy, but this was not it; it seemed as if they had re-fried leftovers from the previous day or so; these were not fresh, and they were just too overfried in not-so-clean oil, that this was just pushed off to the side The staff were friendly, but it's literally one individual - if they're in the back, helping out in terms of getting phone orders and/or prepping meals, it's hard to request anything and/or get the check. I seem to always drive by this restaurant located in this tiny strip mall. My boyfriend and I were craving some Korean food and decided today is the day we tried Wang Ja Jang. Once we walked in, we were greeted by the owner and quickly sat. I started looking through their Yelp page and realized this was a mom and pop shop. Dining in there gave us such a warm and homey feeling. We ordered the jajangmyeon kan poong gi combo and the jam pong tang su yuk combo. For the price of these dishes, the portions were pretty big. Especially with the combo, it's the perfect amount to share. My bowl of jam pong was HUGE. The broth was the perfect amount of spicy and had a rich seafood flavor. It was filled with vegetables and a decent amount of seafood. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his jajangmyeon and kept mentioning it felt like he was eating in Korea haha. I had a bite of his dish and really enjoyed it as well The kanpoonggi was delicious and fried perfectly. The tang su yuk was the perfect amount of sweetness too. Da Rae Won in College Park is my go-to place for Korean noodles and tangsuyuk, and Wang Ja Jang's food doesn't measure up in any aspect, honestly. It's not bad, but there's just no comparison. This is very much a place I would reluctantly settle for if Da Rae Won was closed for the day or if we didn't feel like making the drive out to College Park. That being said, it definitely is very affordable, which I can appreciate in this economy, and the portions are large. No ambience whatsoever in this run-down hole in the wall, but service is friendly, despite long wait times due to one person taking care of the entire restaurant. WOW! Best korean-chinese food in Maryland. I've been to Ti-an, Hanjoong kwan, and Daraewon, but my favorite jjajang myeon (black bean noodle) place so far. Portions are generous too which I love. Their jjam pong (spicy noodle) was good, personally preferred the black bean noodle though :) Their fried pork (탕수육) was also good - though portion size was slightly smaller and could have more meat. However it was very crispy and well-fried! Service was very quick, servers were nice. Ambiance wise, it's older, smaller, and not the nicest looking spot - but I only value food quality when I go to Korean-Chinese spots! Will definitely be coming back here! read more

Whoa... legit jja-jang-myun. Totally took me back to South Korea when I was a kid. It almost brought tears to my eyes. They even give you bori-cha instead of water which is soooo old school. Love it. We got an order of the jja jang myun and jjam ppong. Hands down the jja jang myun was winner. Too bad they don't do the jjam-jja option where you get a little bit of both types of dishes. Sometimes you just want a bit of both... but oh well. Oh and the prices. Soooo economical and for a gigantic portion... could have probably easily shared one bowl between the two of us. Wang Ja Jang is a great Rockville gem! Owned by husband and wife duo who work super hard. Even when it's the busiest, they bust ass with smiles on their face. This is my go to spot when craving Jajangmyeon (Noodles in Black Bean Sauce) or Jjamppong (Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup). They have great combination options to choose from. The sweet and sour fried pork and Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake) are also really good. The only thing I would say is the shrimp in the Jjamppong isn't always the freshest, otherwise it's good. It's pretty safe to eat in their restaurant during COVID time -- sheets are put up between tables and they have a glass where you pay. Their Jajangmyun hits the spot and is a good deal for $6! Big portions and lots of delicious sauce. I've gotten the extra noodles version as well for $2 more and they give you extra sauce too. When you order take out, they give you one free side dish (kimchi pickled radish). I've also had their fried dumplings (geun mandoo), seafood pancake (haemul pajeon), beef bulgolgi, and sweet/sour fried pork (tang soo yuk). Mandoo is flavorful and packed with beef, different from Chinese dumplings. The seafood pancake is large has a lot of veggies and seafood, but is very oily. The beef bulgolgi came with rice, but I thought it tasted a little bit plain. We wanted to order their bibimbap, but during COVID time it looks like they cut their menu down sizeably so they didn't have it. The tang soo yuk tasted pretty good -- I got it in combo with the jajangmyun which is a good deal considering the jajangmyun was full size. The dish tasted good, but I think it was a bit heavy on flour and skimpy on meat; a bit dry but good with the sauce. The sauce looks very corn-syrupy, but I know that is how it's supposed to be. My friends and I came here for an early Thursday dinner. The restaurant is in a small strip mall with many parking spots out front. It's a bit of a hole in the wall with a homey feel. I ordered #30 (Jap Chae with fried rice) for $12.99. However, when the fried rice never came I asked the waitress and she said there was no fried rice and didn't give any further explanation even though I told her it was a combo on the menu. Wang Ja Jang was just "ok" for me. My Korean friends all rave about this spot; but, it wasn't exactly a "hit" for me. Food: I ordered the Jap Tang, which is essentially a medley of vegetables and seafood - to include scallops, baby octopus, shrimp, and sea cucumber. White rice accompanied the Jap Tang. So, this was the first time I had sea cucumber, and the visual totally turned me off. I just couldn't get over what could have been a texture issue for me - it looked slimy, but with ridges or grooves. No, thanks. Sea cucumber aside, everything else was fine. I pass by this place all the time on E Gude and finally decided to stop by because I had 0 desire to drive down to Annandale for my usual black bean noodle spot. There aren't a lot of black bean noodle places in MoCo and so I had to see if this is good! If you can't find parking at the front which fronts E Gude there's additional parking to the side and at the rear of building. The kimchi here is definitely not as fermented as other places but still passable. I got the tangsuyook (sweet deep fried pork ) and the breading was perfect although I found the sauce to be a little too sweet and the portion wasn't on par with other places. The beef fried rice lacked any salt BUT the black bean sauce accompanied it and helped make up for it. Finally, the black bean noodles with extra noodles (also can serve 2 people or one hungry individual) were delicious and I recommend coming here if you're craving the noodles and don't want to drive out to VA. It absolutely hits the spot if you have a craving but maybe not if you don't. In terms of service, I get why reviewers have issues with it; there is literally only one waitress. Secondly, all of the plates had this weird sticky feeling to it which may deter some. I think the coating on the plates just coming off but who knows! The prices here are also unbeatable for what you get. For three dishes my total amounted to be about $42 and this fed 2 people with additional leftovers for one more meal. Im not super familiar with Korean food just Korean BbQ, so I rolled the dice and picked a dish. I went with #34 which had a picture. It arrived with a steaming hot stone pot. Good presentation but a lot of rice under neath and unknown items as well. Dish was a little bland, the red sauce gave it some flavor. Best Korean black bean sauce noodles in the Rockville area! Definitely filling and so much value for the price. The noodles cost $5.99 and came in a big bowl. Food: I got the Ja Jang Myun, and our table split the fried chicken and fried pork. The Ja Jang Myun bowl was huge for the price! The noodles and black bean sauce mixed very nicely for a flavorful and strong taste. There was also small pieces of meat in the bowl, which was also nice. I personally didn't really like the fried pork because I felt the texture was kind of weird for me, but the fried chicken was great! Once the order was taken though, the food came out pretty fast. The restaurant is pretty clean, with a decent amount of tables. Price: Some of the entrees were great deals! We ordered food for carry out. We got two jja jjang myun, one was the classic and the other was seafood. The black bean sauce in the jja jja myun felt a bit gritty, but it tasted good. I'm not sure why it was gritty, but if you mix a bit of water to it, it becomes more smooth. The fried dishes we ordered were tasty as well, but the food was soggy. I imagine if we were to eat at the restaurant, the food wouldn't have been soggy. I would come back again. A suggestion would be to leave the containers with fried dishes slightly open to let the heat come out through the opening. read more

Food was very oily and stomach ended up hurting 48hrs after. One of the biggest thing was, the Korean hot barley tea, it tasted like dirty sink water and not freshly brewed.
