I had the Parisian burger/tater tot Monday special. Fiance had the southwest bbq chicken melt. Both orders are overpriced for what you get. The tater tots were crunchy and tasted ok but super oily (as most fried foods are apt to be). Burger was perfectly well done (medium rare) but the huge buns and massive amount of sauce destroyed what could have been a decent burger. I couldn't put my finger on the 'special sauce', but I would probably liken it to instant noodle soup packet flavoring plus marinara sauce. Very messy. Cheese and sauce everywhere and 2 huge buns overwhelming the little burger patty. No greens on the burger, not even a pickle. It was an instant disappointment. Fiance's sandwich was not worth the visit either, and quite a bit smaller. Probably something I could have made at home. The sauces available were very thin and not memorable. Things that could have improved my experience: condiment bar (lettuce, tomatoes, etc. things that make me forget I'm clogging my heart for 7.95). Better hamburger bun. Being from the East Bay, I thought Kinders was the only legit BBQ chain in the whole Bay Area. I stumbled upon Armadillo Willy's during one of my lunch breaks and I can't get enough of it. My coworkers and I have to come here at least once a week. I've tried most of the different BBQ meat options: ribs, pulled pork, brisket, cowboy sausage. I love that their bbq at this location is moist and not dried out. I normally order the plates instead of sandwiches or burgers. They have two sized plates to order. I normally order a small plate and if I'm feeling hungry, I'll add extra meat to the small plate. My favorite is the traditional ribs because they are cooked to perfection. They fall off the bone easily. I love that willy's has many different bbq sauces. Mild, Chipotle Honey, Spicy Mango and Jamming Jalapeno. read more

I don't understand such low ratings, I really liked the food when I visited this location for the first time last week for a birthday. We had a party of 16 that arrived during the dinner rush. It's a pay-up-front, seat-yourself concept which is the same as Sonoma Chicken. They had a manager come down the line asking people how many ppl were in each party. After telling him our large #, he arranged some tables to accommodate our large group which was pretty cool. As for food, they offer a small portion menu which is what I ordered off of. Great for those who usually don't finish a normal size portion at most restaurants, or just something to get if you're not that hungry. And most items were less than $10. I got the tri tips and added tater tots for $1 as my side. Tater tots were cooked to perfection and the tri tip was really yummers. They also offer a variety of bbq sauces at the self-serve station. I hadn't been to an AW in years before this visit, but now I'll try to make it out to one more often. read more

Good ribs and good customer service. Was looking to get a rib platter for a BBQ and the guys here (esp a mgr named John I think) were really helpful in answering my questions, providing me recommendations, and showing flexibility to meet my slightly early Sunday pickup time. The wet ribs are pretty good and stay moister than the regular ribs. I prefer the wet ribs much more than the regular. The buffalo chicken strips were alright but nothing to get excited about. Bottom line: Can't say that they are the best ribs in Silicon Valley, but ribs that made everyone satisfied at the BBQ. And definitely a very convenient and service-oriented location. RIbs 3.5 stars. If you have a driver, get a 23oz glass of beer. Always bring out of town family to here. Ever go to one of those SV coffee shops and ask for a cookie and the staff refuses to give you the cookie because they have 9 reasons for you to buy the cookie that just came straight out the oven? The whole coffee shop clientele is hotbed of pseudo intellectualism. Armadillo Willy's is a refreshing breath of a culture different from Silicon Valley. Friendly staff with no promises of being vegan or overly thought out or stuff like that. Great burgers, tri tip, pulled pork, baked beans with MEAT. Kid friendly food. The Tri-tip is so flavorful and tender! The Santa Maria Tri-tip sandwich is one of my favorites. Their burgers are great. Plus you can sub the beef patty for a turkey patty or Boca patty on any of their "burgers". I love the bacon cheeseburger with a turkey patty. I would give them 5 stars if the kitchen staff were more reliable about getting the substitutions correct. A few too many times when I have asked for grilled onions instead of a raw onion they didn't get the order correct. My husband orders the free extra toppings for his burger on the side like the peanut slaw and they put it on the burger. Stupid stuff like that but it still matters. Highlights: 1. The managers are super amazing and know the meaning of customer service! 2. Saturday has 1/2 price burgers from 11am-4pm! The people working there are not the friendliest (no smiles what so ever whether you are eating in or carry out), but the BBQ is pretty good. My go to is the Tri-tip combo meal with salad and tator tots. The tri-tip is usually very tender. Dip it in extra BBQ sauce (my fav is the mild and chipotle honey combined), it's sooo good. The tator-tots are usually fried to a crisp, at both locations. Always a must. Although they do charge you extra for getting that. The salad has this corn bread crumb in it instead of the usual croutons and it's so good. I also ordered the ribs and it's usually pretty good. But nothing super out of the ordinary compared to other rib places. I was however disappointed in the BBQ chicken Caesar salad. There was nothing BBQ about it. The chicken was grilled and no flavor at all (and completely white, so no BBQ). But I guess you can always add your own BBQ sauce. It's all you can have if you dine in. read more

Working my way through all the Amarillo Willys in the south bay, this was the latest one that we visited. A tip if you really like bbq, costco had gift cards for Amarillo Willy's for a discount. We came on a Friday night and the plave was popping. Ppl like their bbq. Bf and I got the Texas trinity combo plate. It comes with brisket (lean or juicy or half/half), bbq ribs and jalapeno cheese sausage. Two sides are included and we got the mac n cheese and fries. Also added cornbread. Cornbread comes with cinnamon butter, which I love. The bf prefers just honey and they have that too. Fries came out super hot and fresh. And mac and cheese was good and cheesy. As for the meats, I love the ribs. The brisket can be a bit dry. We got the half lean and half juicy. Not too juicy. But you can just slather it in bbq sauce and it tastes delicious. Not a big fan of the sausage. The cheese is melted and delicious inside but the jalapeno makes it too spicy for me. I prob wouldn't get this combo again. The ribs plus one combo is usually my go to. But both have a lot of food and plenty for two to share. Drinks come with free refills too. read more

This place is great. I've only been here one other time (tonight and about 1 1/2 years ago) but both times have been awesome. This is also the only armadillo willys I've ever been to. I have to say, this is solid bbq. The beans, corn muffin, and sausage were delicious! I had the bacon cheese burger with Cajun fries and it was so good, totally hit the spot. What really boosted their rating was their service. Andrea was great, I feel every place needs a person like her to act as an example of superb customer service. First off, I would like to say that any time I ordered food from here, I was impressed. Their food has always been fresh and delicious! They NEVER disappoint me! Their staff is always friendly as can be! They are always accommodating to all your needs- weather you want the onions,lettuce, tomatoes, Mayo, and mustard on the side of the burger or you don't want the sauce poured over the ribs. They will always go to the ends of the Earth to make you happy and for you to enjoy the true Armadillo Willy's experience! Second, for anyone who gave them a bad review just because you don't like BBQ is not being fair for that is what they serve and if you don't like it then you can go to a different restaurant. You are therefore not writing it based on how good the food is but rather just because you do not like the type of food. And third, for their safety protocols due to COVID-19, they are outstanding. As we all know the virus wasn't easy, for many businesses were shut down and they are doing their best! I NEVER once got sick from them- even before COVID! They have always followed all the measures to keep all of their customers and employees safe! I frequently go here- at least once a week or more- I highly recommend Armadillo Willy's to anyone looking for good barbecue! This place definitely needs improvement for Customer Service. We went there for Monday's ALL you can eat ribs. After the first refill, we notice that they only gave us 2 ribs (at Santa Clara location, they give 4 ribs for refill). Then strangely the front desk guy came ask us to show him how many we got for refill. A few minutes after that, he came over and told us that no more refill as they run out of ribs... It's ALL you can eat night, I can't believe they run out. In addition, they didn't offer other food. I asked to speak to the manager, they sent another girl (the lead) and she said that it was busy night. The restaurant was only 30% full and it wasn't busy when we were there. Worst yet, she told us that "you already got your money worth. You had a full order of ribs and a refill, so you got your money worth already". What type of answer is that? In that case, they should call it ALL you can eat. It's ridiculous. She also said that usually they're not that busy, so they don't prepare that much ribs. I've been to other Armadillo Willy's and there was no problem with getting more ribs for ALL you can eat. This is the worst one. I understand that they may run out certain items, but at least they should offer other food. With the attitude those 2 employees have to the customers, they gotta be fired. For a chain BBQ this is one of the better ones. Rather than prattle on and on and on, let me keep this simple. I'm at AW every time I'm in Sunnvale area. Good food; good value -- what's not to like. Last visit was on a Monday. All You Can Eat Ribs. WOW! Sweet potato fries were a tad under-done. Not enough to complain about, but not quite done. The cole slaw was oddly sweetly tasteless. I ate it because I figgered I needed some fiber to help push the meat through the digestive tract... but I didn't really like it. Ribs were fantastic -- for the first round. Each refill, though, seemed to feature more of the dry end ribs and seemed like they were hinting to stop eating so many. It worked. After about 3/4 of a rack it didn't seem worth going back for more. But overall they were pretty good ribs. So was the pulled pork, and sausage, and brisket... between all of us at our table I tried them a full range of BBQ meat. I'll be coming back but I seem to remember being happier about the sides in the past. read more

Maybe we caught Amradillo Willy's on an off day, but the fries were mega garlicky (which was a plus) but tasted pretty stale. I think I've had better tasting fries at burger king. The pulled pork sandwich was dry and hardly had any bbq sauce on it... and the ribs that everyone raves about were just OK. They weren't tough or sinewy, but they really had to be DUNKED in bbq sauce to taste like anything worthwhile. They were very dry. Pretty disappointing. read more

I tried this location for the first time this afternoon for lunch as I had a hankering for BBQ. Well, my search for the best BBQ continues and it isn't here. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Just like what Marie S. said in her review, the sandwich was dry and hardly had any bbq sauce on it. It was so dry that I had to finally put more BBQ sauce onto the sandwich. In addition to the sandwich, I also ordered the garlic fries. Not garlicky at all. It is the worst garlic fries that I have ever had. Cannot top both Gordon Biersch nor St. John's. My friend's burger was pretty average and she said it was on the charred side. The small plate of Texas ribs were not good. It was dry, pretty boney, and chewy. Love this BBQ! LOVE! Came to this location for the first time, as the place close to us is currently closed for repairs, and it did not disappoint, consistent and delicious! My husband and I ordered a full rack of baby back ribs, plus the brisket and then split them. The ribs were delightful as always, but dear lord that brisket was melt in your mouth insanely good and soft... and that fattiness is to-die-for. Forget about getting it lean! I am not here on a diet, mates! My go-to sides, the potato salad and the cornbread muffin, are gilding the lilly, to make a great meal even that much better. My Tuesday lunch.... Made to order for me cuz they didn't have it on the menu.... Barbaque chicken Sandwich on a soft french roll, with avacado, lettuce, tomatoe. Trying to be healthy, I got the Carolina salad. It is really good! At first I was afraid it wasn't enough food, but the bowl goes deep and they give you lots of bacon and pork. I usually go to the one in Santa Clara witch is much smaller . OK now for the food I ordered the meat plus 1 with chicken I was to excited to get home and dig in . We'll guys my expectations was to have. Fall of the bone rib well that didn't happen ribs seemed over cooked and chicken was good I had the sauce on the side witch was good. Ordered a brisket sandwich and fries and the food came out 30 minutes late, brisket sandwich was hard and burnt meanwhile fries we're coated and too salty. Meal ended up being about $20 for the whole thing. Disappointed. Seems like they emphasize only on the delivery orders and put aside customers who come into the restaurant. Alittle pricey but man good ribs! They usually make them better and not so burnt but we were the last ones there. (Do not order sauce on the side!!! Dry!!!) The previous time the ribs were amazing!!!!! Ther servers are nice and they do serve beer and wine. No Sapporo! They have this interesting German beer though and Budweiser and Corona. Willy's was a good place for ribs at one time. Maybe that's why Cupertimo Willy's location shutdown. Tonights ribs though, were burned beyond recognition - and tough to chew. Maybe they got Best of Silicon Valley for "Q" due to their numerous locations. My negative vote for the sunnyvale location was for the 'day-old' ribs on my platter tonight. Armadillo Willy's is one of my favorite places to eat close to home - I love going to both the Sunnyvale and Los Altos locations close to my home. My wife is a big fan too - she loves the corn salad and the tortilla soup, but of course the MEATS! This place has the definite feel of a Central Texas BBQ joint including the Shiner Bock. My favorite is the Texas Trifecta! The brisket is juicy! Portions are huge. Sauces are delicious! A little sad the half price burger deal is going away (dynamite deal). Warning during COVID. This spot is a local favorite for me when I have the craving for BBQ. It compares to Midwest BBQ any day! Beware, however, if you order online using DoorDash or Grubhub, their prices are inflated using these apps, like grossly inflated. I've asked the employees why and they tell me it's the delivery service that puts that menu up. I don't think so. The service adds their fee at the end not to the menu. I asked the question here on Yelp and the question was removed because it was inflammatory, lol, it IS inflammatory, they're gouging people for their money. Taking advantage of the situation people are stayin home. That's stealing. That's not fair. Until they fix their menu prices I'm boycotting Armadillo Willys. read more

This location needs to step up their Covid-19 game. They have a big space yet still cram all the customers into one hallway and corner of the building. They don't have a good system of dealing with online order pickups that have already been paid for vs. people ordering at the counter. Everyone is clustered in the same area. It is really tough to maintain social distancing with their current setup. read more
