The Mac n cheese was so creamy and cheesy and the bacon had such nice meaty flavor and complemented the Mac n cheese so well. The cornbread muffin was ok because it was cold and dry and they forgot my cinnamon butter! But it was still pretty good. The meats what good flavor but they were cold and there was barely any meat on my ribs! The bbq sauce was absolutely phenomenal I believe it was made in house! The pulled pork was somewhat tender and had a nice smoky flavor but it wasn't that special. The ribs were ok, but there wasn't that much meat! This was still a great amount of food and I'm feeling a little bloated right now! The service was nice and the ambiance give you a nice vibe unlike any o the restaurant feeling full American! A few weeks ago I ordered the tri-tip that also was overcooked too dry. What a disappointment and a waste of money! Armadillo Willy's used to be much better than this. I don't know what happened, but the Sunnyvale restaurant has gone way downhill. And I noticed out of the very large restaurant there were only about five people dining for lunch at noon time when I was there. It used to have many more customers. The Texas rib meal and the tr-tip meal both cost about $30 plus tip plus drink. That's awfully expensive for a lousy food. Have not visited an AWBBQ in awhile. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich & tots. Pork was dry, but it was a Sunday and one of my Most favorite things here is the sauce. The sauce always makes the food better. Albeit mat should stand alone especially BBQ. Tots were crispy. Bonus points. Service was interesting. Order, pay, provide cell phone? Okay sure why not. My wife and I were in the area today (11/24/19) and felt like some bbq so we decided to try this place out. I don't think I've had more disgusting chicken as we got served here today. The chicken was dry, almost like chicken jerky and had no flavor whatsoever. Do they let this stuff sit out for days on end? I don't know how any restaurant could serve this! The pulled pork was too dry, but I really liked the ribs. Last time the pulled pork was much better. My wife liked her sandwich and the garlic fries were good. Came here this Saturday at 12:00pm, and by the time we left at 12:45pm every one of the 100+ spaces was taken. What's happening? This Armadillo Willy's has their half price burger every Saturday 11am-4pm, with the last day September 2. This is the closest thing to a redneck restaurant in Silicon Valley. Country music, specialty baby back ribs, booths and tables lined with picnic patterned vinyl tablecloths, self service for the utensils, and unlimited napkins at the table -you'll need it or afterwards your face look like some toddler playing with his food! I'm dressed in sandals, shorts, and t-shirt, and still might be overdressed for this place! Occasionally you see guys in suits here on weekends, especially Japanese business guests in town, just to remind you that you are in Sunnyvale, CA, not Sunnyvale, TX! We go up to the counter and order our food fast food style. Wife gets the $12 turkey sourdough melt with cheddar cheese, side of cole slaw, while I get the $10 flat iron hamburger, medium, with a wheat bun, no mustard, no mayo, side of fries. Water, no drinks. Pay the $11 bill with credit card, as line forms behind us. Two cashiers at this time, always someone new -lot of turnover in these service jobs in Silicon Valley, even with starting pay of $13 an hour. Service is good, with our food ready at the pickup counter when our electronic pager buzzes off in a few minutes, cooked by the Hispanics behind the counter, speaking Spanish. Just like in Texas! Wife likes her sourdough cheddar turkey sandwich, which looks good, but is only a cooked turkey paddy, as a substitute for a beef sandwich, at the same price. Their peanut cole slaw is the Bomb, a favorite even for meat eaters who don't eat their vegetables! I always order the fries here, as they are absolutely fabulous, with the right amount of salt, and a hint of garlic in the background, and a huge portion. The 1/3 lb burger is tasty, adding some of the famous Armadillo Willy bbq sauce, with pickles, lettuce, tomato, and raw onions. No French kissing here! Been here many times before, and found the baby back ribs to be overcooked, too saturated with sauce, and the tri tips and chicken only so so. Never order chicken here -go to el Pollo loco 1 mile west on El Camino Real. Overhead TVs with sporting events showing. No carpet here, just bare cement, with the remains where the previous carpet was glued to the surface. Sticky floor at the end of the day, with grease stains and soda drinks sticking to the floor, cutting down on the appearance and ambiance of the place. AW's is a local Texas BBQ joint with several locations and is considered the Big Kahuna of BBQ in the South Bay. I have found their offerings to be consistent and legitimate BBQ. The "juicy" brisket is a favorite as is the chicken and Ultimate Hickory Burger. They do a fine pulled pork as well. In other words, everything is great! I like the three BBQ sauces, mild, jalapeño and chipotle. Their fries and corn muffins are excellent as well. The wine and beer is cheap and good too. Try the pecan bar if they are offering it. The Sunnyvale location is bigger than my normal Santa Clara location and the parking is good. The folks that work at AW are always alert and friendly. read more

I haven't been back for their food in a few years, and just came for their beers, but finally gave it and got some BBQ as well. I came in on a Tuesday night around 8pm, and they weren't that busy. I also tried their different BBQ sauces: -Regular: Just ok, and could use a little more sweetness. -Jalapeno: Yum- this actually has a nice spicy kick to it. This was my favorite out of all the BBQ sauces. -Honey Chipotle: Has a good sweetness to it, but needed some more spice. I would come back for their Texas BBQ Ribs, and may have to branch back out and try additional items the next time around. Keep those awesome draft beers coming! The portions for both orders were so petite that we weren't full after eating. I do like the taste of their bbq and especially liked my classic side, pinto beans with the meats and onions flavorings. Talk about setting the bar unreachably high, only to inevitably fall way short. Similarly, Armadillo Willy's claim of being "Real Texas BBQ" is quite a high bar, one which I felt they missed by about the actual physical distance between California and Texas. My Lone Star 1/2 Chicken ($12.95), despite the menu claiming that it's smoked over an oak fire, was lacking in both smokiness and metaphorical fire. Not dry per se, but not too juicy either. This came with two sides, and I chose a salad and garlic fries, the latter being $1 extra. The salad was fine, and it was nice to see a generous helping of garlic on the fries, but the texture of the fries was inconsistent, with some being too soft. The wife fared slightly better, ordering the Beef Brisket ($16.50) with salad and sweet potato fries (also $1 extra). She enjoyed her brisket, but it tasted too dry to me. Good meat should stand out on its own. Sauce is a bonus that should complement, not compensate. On the plus side, I thoroughly enjoyed the sweet potato fries, which were crispy and seasoned well. Score. The staff was friendly, with a sweet lady at the cash register and another lady coming by our table to check on things. I only wish the BBQ was better. I came here with my wife for the 4th of July because we are visiting friends in the area. I ordered a trio combo (i think thats the name of it?) with beef brisket, 3 ribs, and the cheese jalapeno sausage with a side of barbecue baked beans and onion rings. My wife ordered the 1/4 chicken with a side of cornbread. My meal was okay, the best part was the jalapeno cheese sausage and the tangy barbecue sauce (which are both great). The beef brisket was mostly fat although the rub had a good flavor on the outside rim of the meat. The ribs were pretty dried out and the barbecue baked beans did not taste remotely like barbecue sauce. The onion rings were totally flavorless and were sad looking. The chicken my wife ordered was good in flavor and the cornbread was also good in taste and flavor. When you order, ask for the spicy barbecue sauce since it's not spicy but tangy. Asking for the normal barbecue sauce will result in a watered down version. I give this place 2.5 out of 5 stars. It's okay but nothing to write home about. I'd come back just for the cheese jalapeno sausage or to buy the barbecue sauces they had on display when you walk in. read more

We got up to the counter nad since they did not have what I always order on the menu I needed to look at the menu. I do like if not LOVE Armadillo Willy's BBQ. I'm trying to eat healthier. I've eaten here dozens upon dozens of times, and everything is delicious. I figured to be good to watch my waist and order a Salad (with Brisket). I love the brisket. I like the tri tip and the sausage too. The ribs are flavorful. In a way it is very healthy to eat the meat here since you burn major calories smiling as you enjoy your food. :) Plus, BBQ food allows the fat and grease to drip off and actually is a great way to prepare food. If you come here, don't cheat yourself... get the BBQ, forget about the Salad. Although the salad is good, my jealous wandering eyes kept tearing up with regret for not ordering a BBQ meat platter. So, bite the bullet, eat the meat, and do a bit more cardio, hit the gym, skip the soda or deserts, but don't deprive yourself of indulging in a great BBQ meal and making the mistake of just opting to graze on greens. I LOVE coming here on a Saturday! You can't beat half off burgers on a Saturday for dine in customers. I usually get the smoke roasted turkey burger. At first, I thought I would be getting a turkey burger patty, but they actually put slices of turkey. You have to try their french fries. A small order of their fresh-cut french fries can be shared between two individuals. I enjoy dipping it in their mild BBQ sauce. The other day, I made a large phone order and it was made within 15 minutes. FYI, on Tuesdays, they make thee best tri-tip sandwiches for $5.95. Today, alebit a holiday, was the absolute worst experience I've ever encountered from ANY restaurant. They were ill prepared for the holiday rush, which is a huge disappointment considering how long they have been around for. Orders being canceled left and right with NO communication or compensation given to the customer. I called around 5:30pm to place an order for 5 meals. The estimated wait time to pick up was around 40-45 mins; totally understandable given the time and the day. What is completely unacceptable was being told when I was attempting to make payment that my order is being canceled. Excuse me? Just because of this establishment's shoddy management of their supply for the Father's Day demand I now get to scramble minutes before other restaurants close for some kind of Plan B. Clean restaurant exterior/interior and great customer service, but the food is disgusting. Two days ago, I decided to stop by after work to use my gift card. As I walked up to the register, a nice young lady named Berenice greeted me and took my order. While attempting to use my gift card, there was an issue typing it in, so she asked her manager for assistance -- after a few failed attempts, they decided to deduct the price of my gift card another way. While it seems standard for restaurants to please their customers in this type of situation, it doesn't always happen, so thank you for that. I ordered a Texas Trinity BBQ Plate ($21.49). The plate came with Brisket, Ribs, Jalapeno-Cheese Sausage, Potato Salad, and Macaroni & Cheese. First, the brisket was terribly dry, and was only edible when drenched in barbecue sauce. Second, the ribs were also dry, and part of one rib had no moisture in it at all. Third, the sausage was actually decent; however, I assume the sausage casing allowed moisture to get trapped in, otherwise it probably would've been just as dry as the brisket and ribs. Fourth, both the potato salad and macaroni & cheese were sweet for some reason... ...macaroni & cheese is not supposed to be sweet, it's supposed to be savory. Everything seemed as if it was sitting out for a few hours, and it was a complete miss in terms of taste and quality. As I was leaving, the manager smiled and thanked me for visiting.
