Armando's Mexican Restaurant in El Monte is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've found your new go-to for authentic comfort food. Everything tastes homemade, fresh, and full of flavor. I tried the three hard shell tacos, and they were perfectly crispy without being greasy, generously filled with juicy, well-seasoned meat, fresh lettuce, and cheese. The cheese enchilada was rich, gooey, and smothered in a savory sauce that kept me going back for "just one more bite." And the chili relleno -- wow. The pepper had the perfect tender bite, the batter was light and not oily, and the cheese filling was molten perfection. While we waited for our food, they brought out fresh homemade chips with flavorful salsa and a tasty bean dip -- such a nice touch and a great way to start the meal. The service was just as warm as the food -- friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Prices are fair for the generous portions, and the relaxed, cozy atmosphere makes it great for both casual lunches and family dinners. Armando's is a true local gem, and I'll happily come back whenever I'm in the mood for hearty, authentic Mexican food done right.

04/26/2024 Dropped by here for dinner, haven't visited Armando's for 4 years since they moved from their old location on Garvey/Orange Ave in Monterey Park. The owner recognized us right away. The food is still tasty good from years past. I ordered the Armando's Mex Carnitas burrito, Vanessa the owner asked if I wanted red or green sauce I asked which is spicier? She said she can put Habanero sauce in it. I Yes I'll have that. I love hot jalapeños and chill peppers. I love the chips and bean dip they serve too!

Amazing spicy mojate fish from Armando's El Monte on Garvey ave

Food was amazing I had ordered the mojate spicy version of the fish. The service was amazing and thoughtful and very understanding and I wish I could tip more but I am not rich so I gave a representative 2 dollars for being kind as a tip. Again I wanted to tip more. The ambiance was very nice and Mexican. Remember to picture yourself in a vibe/ act style like you're visiting a foreign nation and not to invade it with your thoughts. This place is beautiful and so is the food and sides they served. All around excellent experience even though I took the leftovers to go which I wish I could've finished it all to show how good it was but I had gotten full. Again great place and now I get to have 2nds ! Very cool, thank you again Armando's El Monte on Garvey ave !!

My first time here a friend recommended it and I'm glad I went with a friend to try after a hike was perfect, food was so good I finished all Customer service is awesome the such a sweet waitress make sure we were well attended. Isn't in a nice place, is a plaza and parking lot is dirty and packed. But it's worth a visit.

No extra meat just average amount of meat i think

my husband ordered food to go and one of the entrees we ordered was cocido. however, we ordered extra meat and we ordered araround 745ish n i picked it up around 815pm. when i got to the restaurant, i was immediately confirmed extra meat on my cocido but when i arrived home i was susurprised to find out that there was no extra meat when we specified extra meat on our oorder and was confirmed when i arrived. i'm really disappointed bbecause u paid $30+ for food i didnt get. i would've paid extra i don't mind that but to pay $30 and not get what i ordered is poor food and service in general. if you couldn't give what was ordered let us know while the order is being made. so disappointed aadded review: the total of my bill was $35.135.11. i paid with a debit card and ththey have no sign regarding any debit card or credit card fees added if paid by dc or cc. i was charged $40. mind you i didnt leave any tip bc i picked my order. i called them twice n left messages and i got no response at all. i called again today and fifinally got a hold of someone but she was acting like its no big deal that i was charge an extra $5.98 or that i didnt get what i ordered for. their customer service is lacking etiquette and idk if its bc im not hispanic or spanish speaking but she was very dismissive. the charges were jot the 1st time either. the 1st time i came with my hushusband and are in the restaurant the total bill was only $77 but again i was charged $80 no tip on cc we left a cash tip on the table. this place is a rip off. go to other mexican restaurants. don't come here to eat if you are paying by cc or dc because you will get charge extra $$$ without your knowledge.

Obviously, you can't come to a place that has lobster in the menu without ordering lobster, and we got the House Special Lobster (Large) with Garlic Noodle. Other items we ordered were the French Style Beef Cube, Braided Crab Meat & Fish Maw Soup, Beef Mongolian, Crispy Fried Sole Fish, BBQ Fried Rice, Clams with Spicy Sauce, Crispy Fried Squid with Salt and Pepper, and Clams with Black Bean Sauce. The portions are actually quite massive for each dish. All of it was very solid and tasty Chinese food. We were definitely very stuffed after this lunch was over! Service here is solid enough for a Chinese place. They were pretty quick with getting us extra plates to change out our dirty plates and more bowls as needed. And they were quick with the water. But yeah, you do have to flag them down to get their attention. They do have a parking lot here, and we got here early enough on a Sunday where parking wasn't an issue. Because the wait time was too long for that, we decided to try The Dive Oyster Bar -- and man are we sure glad we did. We got a total of five items: a bowl of clam chowder, the soft shell crab appetizer, the roasta, the traditional pan roast with the house speciality protein (with the crab on the side because of my dad's crab allergy), and the jambalaya, which for the last three we ate with medium heat. We shared everything (except for the crab appetizer because, again, crab allergy for dad) and found the food to be delicious, with each entree coming out tasting better than the last. Personally, the roasta was my favorite with the pan roast as a close second. Very flavorful dishes with medium heat being a good level for us (wasn't spicy for our Korean palates). Service was great, our server (unfortunately forgot his name) was attentive and quick with our requests, and although he forgot a side of rice, it was for the best as the food had settled in our stomachs by then and we were content with what we ordered. The restaurant itself is well maintained with ample table space and appropriate lighting, though the music from the evening DJ was a tad bit too loud to hear from across the table. Not a big mood killer for us, though mostly because the good was that good. We're not from this area, so the odds of coming here again are relatively slim -- but should the opportunity present itself, it'll be more than fate this time to take us through these doors once again.

I recommend coming early because they did get busy and by the time we left every table was filled. The energy here is definitely upbeat and a great place to hang and catch up with friends. We had an incredible feast and would come back to reorder all of the dishes we tried this visit and more: Goi Xoai Muc ($15.99) - Mango salad with squid. Very light and refreshing. This is an unripe mango thinly cut and mixed in with traditional Vietnamese herbs. It also comes with some shrimp chips to funnel up this delicious salad. Oc Mong Tay Mo Hanh ($18.99) - Razor clams grilled with scallion oil. One of the least flavorful items by compare. Both my friend and I felt like the scallion oil was very light on these razor clams but enjoyed it with the sauces from other dishes. Oc Mo Bo Toi ($24.99) - Fat snails prepared garlic butter style. Delicious. These bigger snails makes them easier to pick them out with the skewers they serve this with. Ngheu Xao Bo Toi ($16.99) - Clams prepared garlic butter style. Yum. Juicier compared to the snails and absorbs the sauce well. The clam shell makes it easy to scoop up the sauce and drink it. Oc Len Xao Dua ($16.99) - Sea snails in a coconut milk sauce. One of my favorites but I know it's one of the more difficult ones to eat, cause you'll have to suck on it really hard to get the snail out. But the sauce is delicious and unique. So Diep Trung Cut ($15.99) - Scallops with quail eggs. Highly recommended by staff, They mentioned this was a popular dish. Very decadent. It was a smidge too much food for 2 people but when I asked my friend if she would remove anything, she mentioned it was all a good variety for the meal. We were seated right away on a Thursday night. Heads up, the menu could feel overwhelming because there were so many dishes that claim to be their 'best-seller.' The first dish we had was the Bun Bo Hue, and this made a great impression. The broth was well-seasoned, meat portions were generous, and honestly this had me excited for everything else that was coming. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't quite live up to that first dish. We ordered the "Fried Rice with 8 treasures," and as someone who is not too picky with rice dishes, this one fell short for me. It lacked any form of seasoning and depth. I added the sauce on the side with some pepper to the rice and that still did not add much flavor. We also ordered the fried fish balls with quail eggs, mango salad, and finally the clams. The mango salad was refreshing and probably the only dish I would get again after the bun bo hue. Our fried fish balls with quail eggs were a little too dense and chewy for my liking. The clams were overcooked and turned rubbery. Service throughout the meal was attentive. I really wanted to love this place because I had a particular craving for mussels that night. Unfortunately, everything after the bun bo hue just didn't hit the same. Ambiance was cute with the signs hanging above our heads. There was a TV playing sports games on one side of the wall. It's definitely your casual spot! I wouldn't mind coming back for a quick meal but I would only stick with their bun bo hue and mango salad.

Nicely fried and not overly seasoned. (5/5) Signature Lobster - I feel like you have to get this here since it's their specialty. It's pricey, but in my opinion, it's the best and freshest lobster in town. Tons of green onions, seasoned well, fresh meat, and lots of lobster roe. For two people, we had a great shrimp boil with delicious sides, garlic bread and six oysters as an appetizer for a great price. Can't wait to try it for lunch. We'll definitely be back!!

My go-to place for sashimi platters and fresh seafood pick up for family parties like Thanksgiving…read moreand Christmas! I usually place an order through their Instagram DMs a few weeks in advance for holidays. You can ask for their excel spreadsheet and they'll send it to you with prices and this same spreadsheet updates every year! There is also a little deposit for holiday pick up depending on the size of your order. Their sashimi platter is beautiful, fresh, delicious, and always a party favorite. I usually get: Salmon, Toro, Yellowtail, Scallops, and Oysters. If available, uni trays and fresh wasabi (which can also be picked up at HMart). Scallops are my favorite but every piece of fish is so good and cut perfectly. Parking and pick up is easy. It is a very small store front with one party inside at a time and pay at the counter. Highly recommend for party platters for fresh sashimi.

The service was nice to their customers and were very helpful on what to try out on the menu. The ambiance here was quite nice. Was very spacious and I feel like it would be a great place to hangout with friends and family after a long day of work. Would definitely recommend this place to all Seafood Lovers!

We got the family pack of the seafood boil and it was huge enough to feed 4 adults if you add two…read moresides of rice and a Cajun fries basket. For the price of food and the amount you get, I can't complain! The flavor of their own seafood boil sauce (boom sauce?) is a standard seafood boil flavor, it's legit. The flavors don't overwhelm you and make you wanna go to the toilet right away, you know what I mean? The family pack comes with 3 corn on the cob, 3 sausage pieces and 3 potatoes (like a medium sized potato!) it was good but I wish the seafood had time to sit in the sauce, you can tell the food was dumped on the sauce. We had to fight to scoop some sauce onto our mussels cause the bag was so full of food- what a good problem to have. Maybe the sauce is a bit thin? Maybe that's why it didn't stick to the food? Service was good, the ladies were attentive and professional. The decor looked like this place was known to be a bar- I mean there's a huge bar to the side. There's even a second floor but no one was seated there so it doesn't look used. Cute decor with the sea theme. Not happy about their toilet in the women's restroom. There's a a sign saying to please not dispose the toilet seat covers in the toilet cause it could clog it up. I was being a nice person and went to the trouble of respecting their wishes. It was gross as I was being careful not to touch the peed parts of the toilet seat cover. Don't judge me, only God can judge me! Come here to feed your family and friends at a very reasonable price! And if you're a lady you're gonna have to hover while you pee if you don't want to deal with the toilet seat cover disposal issue...
