They didn't add their own gratuity with a large party, which was nice. So, I tipped more than 20% for my part of the bill and someone added an extra $3. First, let me clarify that what I am about to describe, is not representative of the typical experience I've enjoyed at any of the various Arriba's locations I have dined at previously. Over the weekend, my girlfriend and I stopped in the Goodyear Arriba's for dinner. We weren't particularly hungry due to the heat. Unfortunately, the service we received in the bar practically made it a realistic possibility that we weren't going to eat. We arrived at dinner time, around 6, and there was a small wait. There appeared to be a few parties ahead of us waiting outside. We bypassed that and headed to the bar. We got the last two bar stools, but it wasn't particularly busy in this part of the restaurant. I didn't get the name of the male bartender, and that's probably a good thing for him. All he did was get us chips and salsa and our beers. After that, he was A.W.O.L. Thankfully, we enjoyed our cervezas (the house amber). And the Carne Asada Tacos we shared were good. But even the female bartender who got us menus and took our order was a little off. I don't care what the haters say, I thought this place was dope. Really cool atmosphere and set up with a huge bar. The bartender was helpful with choosing. There was at least 10 different lunch specials with daily special ad well, making it a cheap stop. I got the Rio Grande enchilada which had queso fundido on top. Super delicious. It was one of the cleanest Mexican places I've been to in the area as well. Stopped in for lunch with my employees for one of their birthdays today. We were seated really quickly. (We arrived about 1115 on a Thursday, just for perspective.) We had a group of 6 and they sat us at a round table just for 6 checking people - it was a little crowded at the table. The waitress was really nice and accommodating checking on us several times and making sure our glasses were full. The food came out pretty quick. Most at the table ordered the daily (Chimichangas special), but I opted for the 2 cheese enchilada plate from the normal menu. (The only lunch special with a cheese enchilada included a taco - which I was not interested in.) The enchiladas were decent. VERY cheesy - I was literally trying to cut the cheese hanging from my mouth each bit because there was too much. The beans and rice were decent, but nothing to spectacular. I will say the option of salsa and a bean type salsa with chips as a starter was a nice touch. The food overall was decent, but nothing earth shattering. If my employees wanted to go again I would probably tag along, but I probably wouldn't pick this as my first choice for Mexican food. Their happy hour prices are nothing to complain about. The free chips and salsa are appreciated, and not bad at all. The actual food though, the shredded beef quesadilla and beef taquitos we ordered, left much to be desired. They weren't terrible, but also far from good. I can honestly say that Taco Bell does it better. If not for the happy hour prices, I perhaps wouldn't have left feeling as content as I did - or perhaps it was the margaritas (also on happy hour). Next time I'll probably just go just for those and the chips, and just leave the food out of it. The server was friendly enough, but we didn't see her very much, and did a lot of waiting around for refills. The rainforest art on the outdoor patio wall is nice to look at, but the tables are small and look a little dated. I mean.....they give you bean dip with your chips, which is huge for a person who loves chips, but does not like tomatoes/salsa. Since this restaurant opened in Goodyear it has been plagued with poor customer service. From the hostesses to the servers and warm house beer. This is unfortunate since the food is good... Today's experience was no different. We arrived on a Saturday about 2 pm and there was a large party in the lobby waiting to be seated. There was a female employee washing the front window that saw us arrive and didn't acknowledge us in any way so we assumed she wasn't a hostess. We continued to stand uncomfortably at the hostess counter, even going so far to see if there was seating at the bar since the counter was unattended. At no point did any employee acknowledge we even existed. Finally a employee came to talk to the party of 9 to clarify their numbers. She also passed us by without even a "I'll be right with you" acknowledgement. The girl that had been cleaning the front windows slowly made her way to the hostess counter to put her supplies away. Still saying nothing, she grabbed 2 menus and silverware set ups and glanced up at us. At no point did she say one word, look like she was more than a cleaning person, or ask if we were a party of two or more. We departed the restaurant without one staff acknowledging us. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because TWO managers working did try to make it up to us after being treated poorly in the beginning, & I appreciate them for doing that, but honestly won't be returning to this location. My husband decided to go on and ask how much longer and they said we'd be seated next. Well, literally right after being told that, a party of 2 that came after us got seated at a table that would've worked just as well for us, so my husband walks up again to ask what the issue is and looks down at their list and notices the hostess didn't even mark his name down on the list, but on a PIECE OF PAPER NEXT TO THE LIST. We had been waiting probably about 20-30 minutes by this point and the hostess than tries to lie and say we've only been waiting for 7 minutes. Seriously?! I love this place! I've been here 4 times in the last few months, during the pandemic conditions which are irritating. Love this place, the staff and the food. I'm not a margarita gal but my family and friends rave about these. We had a fun girl's day out lunch and everyone enjoyed their choices. We have dined at Arribas in Goodyesr for over 8 years. We have brought many guests to enjoy their delicious Mexican food. And they have all come back becoming regulars themselves! The staff is wonderful. All of the servers are excellent, friendly, efficient, and they always greet us with a welcoming smile. The bartenders remember our drink orders and offer a welcoming smile and great attitude. The folks that bring our food ask what else we might need, from extra napkins to additional sauces to smaller dishes. Everyone is friendly and so very helpful. The food is absolutely the best whether it's ordering one of their combinations, appetizers or their incredible desserts. And they are more than happy to make changes at our request. The GM goes out of her way to try to make customers have a great dining experience. She personally takes time to chat with her customers. And when she sees an extra pair of hands would be helpful, she happily pitches in to do whatever she can. It wouldn't be a good week if we couldn't eat at Arribas at least twice a week. The staff is warm, friendly, and extremely personable, which is why I feel horrible for saying their Mexican Food is bland and tasteless. I really wanted to like Arribas Mexican Grill. After all I had been to the Phoenix location and the food wasn't bad. However, the way to begin a meal is not with a watery tomato salsa and a puny bowl of broken chips. I have to give Arribas props for their cheese crisp. The cheese crisp was loaded with cheese and extra crispy. However, the enchiladas were soggy and brunt on the ends. This is our regular Mexican food place. I'm surprised the Yelp rating is so low--we've never had any problems here. The food is good, not gourmet by any means, but good. We visited on a Sunday. We could have gotten a free kids meal for our son, but when we informed our waiter that our son only eats tortilla chips, he made sure our tortilla chip bowl stayed full. That was greatly appreciated! I always get the tacos al carbon, usually with beef. The leftovers are great the next day. My husband enjoys the flaming beef fajitas with rice. ESPECIALLY considering they have to deal with personally wearing "masks", a consistently changing state mandate for "safety", regulation and not being able to run their business the way they normally do. Luis is always ALWAYS great and remembers me when I walk in. Everyone is always really nice and attentive. They serve beans and two types of salsa with their chips!
