Had the blues burger (added bacon) and fries and a Bloody Mary. Excellent drink. Burger was perfectly cooked medium, juicy, loads of flavor. Lightly cooked red onions added sweetness. Never a bad meal! We went for a late lunch...so glad we came. On obx, sometimes you just need some meat...great place for burgers. My father ordered the prime rib sandwich and he loved it. Omg Art's is awesome! I'm on vacation and a few locals told me how Art's had the best burgers and also had a great breakfast. Tonight, decided to try Art's and oh my God, I had one of the best burgers I ever had!! I got a burger with cheddar cheese, mushrooms, tomato and onion. It was grilled perfectly and the potato roll complicated the burger very well. It came with fries and they were awesome too. They cut fresh potatoes and the taste proves it! Hubby and I popped in for a mid afternoon snack. We shared wings and fries. You know, the food is good (beach bar stuff) but we just love this place because of the convivial atmosphere, the upstairs sway deck and the back grassy area where the kiddies can play and hang out. Lindsey our serve was just so cool, efficient and took great care of our puppy dog (very dog friendly). Arts is just a staple in KittyHawk and a great place to hang out and have some drinks. The is a staple in the upper Outer Banks. The burgers are second to none and the atmosphere is truly relaxed like the beaches of Kitty Hawk a d Kill Devil Hills. Did I say the burgers are incredible! However, be wary of the line cook cleanliness. More than once have we seen the cook be spoken to regarding not wiping his nose, ears, eyes, or other body parts with his gloves on and then then touch food on the grill. Kind of gross, when laying to eat that. Also, there are cokjs there whose pants are below their bums, so you stare at the their bum and their underwear while eating. And this is the guy who cooked your food. So be wary and eyeful. The burgers are great, but I hope they are not great because of the extra nose and eye cheese that is in them. read more

Breakfast hours aren't long enough on a weekend (until 10:45 am). Then it took until noon to be able to place an order for lunch. BLT was pretty hefty but sweet tea was awful and certainly not representative of NC sweet tea. Must have been something store bought. How is it that I lived in Kill Devil Hills for over 20 years and still have been back and forth regularly for almost another 10 and never made it into Art's Place?!? Dad's response: Traffic. Tourists. Etc. So true. If you're from the Outer Banks, you have to make lots of sacrifices about what you do based upon the invasion from the tourists. Still. Art's Place is open year round! In response to that Mom and Dad just say that we never made it up to that end of the beach as much to eat. Another thing people from out of town might not understand... Plus, there were 5 of us and it's hard to go somewhere small with 3 kids. All is well though. This past Saturday I finally had lunch at Art's Place. Dad's become quite a fan over the past couple of years now that he's been living in Kitty Hawk. That and they have an open mic night on Wednesdays and he loves playing acoustic sets to the intimate crowd there. Art's Place has been around for over 30 years. Since 2008, it's been in the hands of Tammy and her family, also long-time residents of the Banks. Tammy was behind the counter washing dishes and helping out with things while her daughter Laura roamed around the restaurant taking orders and tending to customers' needs. It's a local spot. For the tourists who "don't get it," the intimacy, longevity, and personal care that go into keeping this spot open year around are what make it so special. Most places that stay open year around have really got to deliver something strong and something unique. Art's Place is one of those dives that's been on the beach road and lasted despite storm after storm. Art's Place gets 5 stars simply because it is a true Outer Banks survivor -- storms, tourist seasons, and staying open year after year. Not only that, it's incredibly affordable and good. When we ventured in, it was pretty crowded. The upstairs and side decks are not full service, but you will get some attention there. There is a small front deck and by small, I mean one row of stools with a narrow place to set your food. The dining room is tiny and the bar directly overlooks Tammy washing dishes and the two cooks on the grill from prep to grilling. The two servers ran around minding everything else going on. Local art hangs on the walls, including a surf board suspended from the ceiling near the front windows. Dad goes there for the burgers so I followed his lead and had a Bacon Cheeseburger, but subbed cheddar for American. All fries are hand-cut. The sandwiches/burgers come in a basket with the fries. There are fountain sodas and some basic beer and wine, but nothing fancy so don't fuss. Sure, I love my wine, but Art's Place isn't meant to host Napa Valley taste desires. We did have to wait a little bit for our food, but when it came out, it was really good. And I'm not a big French Fry person. But these were good and I even watched the cook cutting them since they ran out mid-lunch! I tried to come back Sunday morning with Mom for breakfast, but we were too late. They serve breakfast everyday until 11am and the parking lot stays packed so you have to be early and patient. I'd say my only major complaint is the lack of parking because I'm used to waiting at the beach. Art's Place, thanks for the fine introduction. Wow, this place simply is amazing. It's got everything I look for in a breakfast spot: the homey diner feel, large portions and delicious food. And, we stopped by two days in a row so they're consistent as well in their food! After hearing locals recommend the place, we stopped by for a Saturday brunch. The interior is actually fairly small--it only fits 4-5 tables plus a bar. We had a wait of about 20 minutes before seats opened up at the bar. I never rave about coffee, but even the coffee they served here was phenomenal. I had the breakfast egg biscuit with sausage and cheese on Saturday, and an omelette when we went back on Sunday. The size of that biscuit was nothing to scoff at. I figured a $5 biscuit sandwich wouldn't be enough food, so I ordered home fries and a pancake...bad choice. The biscuit is huge--almost as big as the pancake. It's rather flaky though and a tad bit dry, but the ample amounts of egg and cheese in the sandwich really balanced that texture out. Needless to say, I finished everything because it was all so good and ended up being stuffed until dinnertime. The omelette was delicious too and of course a huge portion. No ingredients that you pick are skimped on in the omelette so be prepared to feast! This is now my must-visit place when I visit the Outer Banks--Art's won't disappoint! read more

Good food! Our party of six tried the pancakes, western omelette, Greek omelette, scrambled eggs with grits, biscuit with gravy, and half order of french toast. Servings were plentiful and everything was delicious. It's a small place and indoor seating is limited but there's lots of outdoor seating. We ate here on a weekday, post Labor Day. Someone mentioned that waits are long on the weekend, so if you can come early or non weekends, you can save having to wait for your food. read more

We came here during the summer and loved it! Back again this January for my birthday weekend and this is definitely our new favorite joint. We've only had breakfast and that was Awesome! All in all a solid 3. Most certainly a place for locals, and being a new local - it has a nice...well local feel to it. Inside seating is limited, bottle beer and full bar, and the staff there is super friendly. Lots of burger choices, and all in all the burgers are good. One thing to note, their burgers are cooked to medium meaning there is pink in the middle; if that is not for you make sure to tell them you'd like yours more towards well done. The fries, the night we were there, could have gone for a longer fry to get more of the crispy edges. Onion rings and Jalapeno Poppers, while good are fried out of the bag frozen and would be WAY WAY WAY better made fresh. The classic question is would we be back - being a local these days I would say yes we will certainly be back. It is the kind of friendly place to have a good burger and a beer or two. read more

Little but mighty! We stumbled upon Art's Place while looking for a 'last night at the beach' dinner. We were NOT disappointed! The indoor seating was limited (it was pouring rain) but the porch seating area looked cute. The burgers were amazing, so much flavor and very juicy. The fries are fresh cut, and so good. After a week of seafood I decided to switch it up and go for the rueben wrap, a solid choice. The service was great and the waitresses were very sweet. We will definitely be back. read more
