    Americano

This felt like an unanticipated reunion, and I'm not talking about one of those awkward family things you wish you'd never gone to.... Here's what happened...... You wouldn't see me without an Americano & a Scone at an 8 am lecture in my College Years. Yeah...kinda like a sidekick....you know to start the day. Post grad and throughout the years with quality declining and prices rising...habits changed.... That day....in cozy Cambie Village with Christmas in the air I craved the pleasure of a proper Americano and all the markings of a wicked Scone. An Americano you can taste the different notes of the bean that have been weaved properly through correct brewing leaving it in the mouth not only smooth, but unpredictable. The Scone...its texture is not like any other...soft, flakey and moist with a crisp covered blanket. Blueberries? Raspberries? Either plenty throughout. I decided to try their Americano and asked the friendly barista if their scones were fresh. I was assured they were. Sitting down in their comfy oversized chairs by the window watching people enjoy their Saturday Christmas shopping....I took my first sip, closed my eyes, smelled the aroma from the immaculately clean cup and let it trickle down my throat....I was back in Psych class at 8 am with a warm cup in my hand. Beautiful. The Scone also was everything it was supposed to be....you know the types of pastries that are so good that when you walk into your coffee shop you hope they're not all out. Yeah...that kind. Really lovely to have gone down memory lane that day. Thank you Artigiano for taking me there. It's been a long time.

Have you ever had someone tell you - "you work too hard & seem so dedicated to work!" Well now let's just see how best to reply ... A) ahh I like earning a pay cheque B) being broke ain't no joke C) I'm seriously lazy in life & would love to spend all day on the couch watching TV D) have you ever enjoyed being unemployed - it ain't fun! E) I'm guessing you don't like to eat real food & you literally took - 'going green' - to mean eating grass all day!? F) Uhh if I'm late for work I'll get fired! G) Robbing banks just never really seemed to appeal to me growing up H) ALL OF THE ABOVE Sometimes in life you just gotta wonder why anyone would question hard work & dedication!?! Besides I kinda like to eat aahhhmmmaaazing food ... & it costs cash money to do that!!! Right!?! Don't get me wrong ... I appreciate family & friends but seriously, love don't pay the bills!!! What a way to start the new year! LMFAO! I start 2023 with zero resolutions. After getting through the past 3 years of this ongoing pandemic, I aim to live life one day at a time. That does not mean that I won't make serious plans, however, I will no longer beholden to dreams as they can easily go - poof! If the pandemic has taught us just one thing - it's be happy you're alive. I've been dropping in on Caffè Artigiano for years & it's always been the Spanish Latte that does it for me 100%! It's smooth, sweet & uplifting. Other local cafes have tried to make it but they absolutely suck - so don't bother! This location used to be the former outpost for Starbucks. Starbucks refocused on their newly renovated Cambie & Broadway location, just up the street. Good vibes & cool decor inside this caffè. This corridor is super busy - heavy traffic, big box stores, restaurants, ongoing Broadway subway construction, etcetera. So if you're in & about this area do pop in & try the Spanish Latte! If you don't like it, don't call me ... I'll call you. Happy 2023!

I'm a sucker for a good multi-roaster cafe, and Revolver is a fantastic one. They serve up beans from all over, and they do it right, thanks to staff with eyes (and noses) for detail. Barista Soho and I chatted about NYC[1], and he told me La Cabra has a bakery there[2]. Savored a lovely pourover from Toronto[3], served hot. That very same day, I returned and had a decaf espresso that slapped[4]. Ample seating. A fair bit of natural light somehow makes it into the shop. Good for a date, coworking (especially in their next door "Archive" space), catching up with friends AND discovering coffee from around the world. Find this shop in Gastown, a short walk from the SeaBus station. [1] Yes, his name was Soho. Not SoHo. [2] Saved for my next trip to the East Village. [3] Saw Dak on the menu, but I'll be in Amsterdam sooner rather than later... [4] No idea what it was. Besides, the menu'll change before I find out[5]. [5] I love footnotes!

Revolver is what I'd consider a multi-roaster shop with a focus on the coffee first. The bar is made up of high quality small batch grinders, perfect for grinding fresh for each cup, and a long line of pour over setups to give each cup the attention it deserves. Behind the bar you can see an Aiden by Fellows for quick batch brewing quality beans to the standards of the specialty coffee association or quick recipe testing. The menu is predominantly descriptions of the coffees they're currently brewing with a few classic and simple coffee preparations like a latte and a cortado, but nothing too involved because they focus on the coffee itself. I really liked how they separated the coffees by flavor profile so you could key in on the type of beans and roast you prefer. They offered several natural, honey, and anerobic options, which made me happy. My friend isn't a coffee geek like I am, so it was fun to see which he gravitated to and enjoy that alongside my choice, which was totally opposite. The barista side of the shop is long and narrow, with the bar predominating, but there's a great sitting area right next door that I didn't even notice until we were leaving. I'd hoped to buy a bag of beans to take with me but none of the ones we tried were available. Good sign I suppose, but sad for me. Next time!

We ordered the following: Tiramisu Latte Caprese Bite London Fog Apple Cookie Cherry Matcha Tonic Tiramisu Sea Salt Caramel Gelato The Cherry Matcha Tonic was pretty but wasn't too crazy about the flavor. I should have just gone with my original gut instinct and chosen a hot beverage like Hojicha Latte or something like that. I was sort of thirsting for something cooler for a change though, and the Cherry Matcha Tonic was the first "cool" drink that caught my eye so I decided to go for it. Won't do that again. Everything else was good though. The Sea Salt Caramel Gelato was the star of the show! In the store there's a sign beneath their gelato section that says "Canadian Gelato Champion". I believe it after tasting the Sea Salt Caramel! They had Nama Chocolates too. I was tempted to get some but...only so much a person's wallet and waistline can handle at one time. Will try the Nama Chocolate some other time. You can order in person here, or you can place an "Express" order at the Kiosk. We tried both ways of ordering. Ordered at the counter first and then after finished my Cherry Matcha Tonic decided I wanted to try the Sea Salt Gelato so then tried ordering that from the Kiosk. Most of the parking in this area is paid but I lucked out and got a free spot right around the corner from this place!

I could tell even from outside that it's a popular work and study type of coffee shop with your free wifi and outlets. I hope this post doesn't give it away and make it way too crowded for me to find a seat next time. There's a steady flow of people visiting the stores while I was there on a weekday between late afternoon and early evening but there's always extra seat for anyone new looking for a desk to work or chat with friends. A few could be better are the pricing and temperature. They offer free oat milk substitute and -$0.35 for bringing your own cup but no more employee discount. And it was so cold in there, I could see a lot of people kept their winter jackets on, I don't think it's a heating issue but the constant windy seems to suggest the AC is on rather than the heater, oh wells Im out of there now. For that reason, unless I'm bundled up, it'll be a hard sale to be back again! I got a hojicha latte and it as pretty good, perfect sweetness and temperature for my cold with no ice. The barista was super great to work with.

Brownie points for convenience. My husband ordered a double espresso and in true men's fashion claimed it to be "solid". I ordered the maple sea salt shaken espresso and it was *chefs kiss*. If you are a sweet and salty lover, get it! It won't disappoint you. We also ordered the Doug sandwich and the Avo sandwich. Don't let the looks fool you as the sandwiches' appearances fall kind of short. However, both sandwiches were delicious. Starbucks could never. ‍ The Doug Sandwich - a full bodied sandwich consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and tarragon aioli. I thought this sandwich would be too heavy, but the brioche bun is light and the scrambled eggs are really fluffy. The Avo Sandwich - a lighter sandwich featuring fried egg, avocado, cheddar cheese, sun dried tomato pesto, tarragon aioli and mixed greens. Also a good choice! The cafe was clean and they have a water dispenser available for customers. Service was ok, but I think they were just a bit busy.
