I have been a few times, and it's now time to leave a review, since I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and the food, each time I've been. I should quantify this review by saying, every time I've been in, -- since I don't live in the neighborhood -- it's been with friends who do, and they know the establishment and the staff fairly well. I really enjoy their drink selection (fun to see all these different herbs, etc at the bar, at the ready to make some really cool mixed drinks) and I like their wine list as well. Last time I was in, I had the guacamole and chips (homemade and so dellish) and the burger. The burger is small (I didn't want a huge entrée and because my friend said it was served on English muffins, I realized that would be perfect) and is verrrry flavorful. The food took a wee bit longer to get to us, than I thought it would, but considering it's all made to order, I chilled on that, and just enjoyed my drink, my friends company and the great music. Best. Bar. Ever. I've been meaning to write this review for ages. I love this place - I found it on a random afternoon with some friends. We went in, had wine, and played games all afternoon. The bartender was super friendly and never rushed us or shushed us - we were there for hours and had a great time! I also had my birthday party here. They let me reserve a section of the room and pick all the music for the night. They asked me what my favorite cocktail was and made that the special. Love this little neighborhood joint. Excellent specialty cocktails--and definitely get a dirty martini with the housemade olives and olive juice. Essence of rosemary and salty goodness right there. Not too much food, but the kitchen is open until 11pm, and the Queso Fundido is, holy god, to die for. Just let it cool down a little before you try to get any in your mouth--the oil from the cheese is still boiling when they bring it out. Goddamn it's good! Atmosphere is relaxed and chill, and the bartenders are almost always good at their job. Place seems to be experiencing some growth though, as my friends and I did have a bummer experience a week ago; we were totally unable to get the bartender's attention for about 15 minutes. Eek. Went to Asiento for a friend's casual birthday get-together around 6:30pm on a Friday. There were about 20 people in this comfortable, wide open lounge space and 1 friendly bartender serving drinks and taking orders. I had their house sauvignon blanc, lemon hummus, and cheese, salami and bread platter. All delicious. The specialty cocktails looked delicious and are worth a try on my next visit. I noticed they have a number of classic board games for people to play. That alone gets an A+ in my book. Parking in the area is a bit challenging, but not impossible. Love this place! It's right around the corner from my house, and I wish I went more, but every time I do, we have a good time. They usually (always?) have a DJ spinning on weekend nights, and there's always a good little group getting down on the dance floor. Fun little casual bar hidden on the quiet end of the Mission. Friendly corner bar for regular gathering, generous portions of tapas as bar food. The service was pretty fast considering how busy they get. Love the ottomans and stools layout for more flexible seating, as well as the board games to keep groups entertained. The owner came by a few times and checked in on us, she seemed to genuinely care and was really nice. I think Asiento wants to be your go-to downstairs bar, and is really well set up for that. With a varied menu and different activities every night, I'm definitely intrigued to come by more often and pop in on Monday Trivia Night. Music isn't overly loud, but more like background noise, so you can still have a conversation without losing your voice. We ended up having our 10 year HS reunion here the day after Thanksgiving and I can honestly say Debbi saved the day! We had no budget to work with in terms of "renting" a place out, but needed a space to accommodate 50-100 guests in a semi-private space for the event. Debbi was a dream to work with! She totally understood our dilemma of not having any budget to "rent" the place out and said not to worry, because the crowd would be buying drinks and it was a win-win. HUGE weight lifted off our planning shoulders. In the end we were able to collect enough for a "food budget" and ordered food off the menu - which was all very good. On the day of the event, as she noticed people were slowing down with the food -- she converted the food budget into a "shots" budget and we passed around free shots with the money we had leftover. It was a great hit, and we owe it to her! It's also just a great locals bar - Debbi is super chill and even allows dogs in the bar. Really warm, welcoming atmosphere. My wife (vegetarian) and I (carnivore) came in on a Thursday night, the bar staff was very friendly and attentive. They had a pretty large menu that catered to both of our needs with plenty of vegetarian choices. We ordered the spinach balls which were really good soft on the inside and fried just the right amount. The deviled eggs were also quite good though a little salty but paired well with a cabernet. The Thai spring rolls were okay, but not our favorite. The shrimp ceviche was very good and their fresh tortilla chips definitely made the plate. The ambiance is very cozy and homey. They have a DJ there, but it's still a good place to have a conversation. We will definitely be back! read more

Asiento is a bar that just makes you feel like you are going for a drink a your best friends place. Its such a welcoming and chill environment that you always want to come back if you are in the area. They have a great selection of drinks and the bartenders are very knowledgeable. The drinks have a lot of tequila elements to them but there is a variety I especially liked the Prickly Pear Margarita. They also have a great selection of tapas and other small plates that you will probably need to order around four to five of to fill up but they are all delicious so it is worth the investment especially if you come with a few people to split the cost. The crowd is so much fun, everyone seems to be having a good time and there aren't a lot of pretentious people or the feel of the Marina crowd you can get in other places. Asiento is snuggled between a bunch of residential houses and off the beaten path of the mission area so it feels like an undiscovered find when you stumble upon it. The staff was really nice including the owner who came out and chatted with customers and made sure everyone had a good time. They also provide games on Wednesday night to encourage people to mingle and interact. They also have several themed dance nights and I have gone on a full-fledged 80's night which was incredible and I believe the bartenders danced more that we did! There is a nice selection of wine for those who prefer that as well. The only issue is that it can get crowded here as a lot of larger groups stop by for the tapas so it can be hard to find a seat at times and it can get very loud when it reaches this point so it can be hard to hear the person you are with over them and the music. Great date spot as the mood is set as soon as you walk in. Also don't forget to pay in cash! Debit is only really good if you are opening a large tab. Overall though it is a great spot to check out and make yourself a regular. The staff will recognize you and you will wow your friends with your knowledge of local treasures like this one. I like how this place has more than just 1-2 veggie options to order. The drink menu is interesting as well. The bartender is super sweet and really easy to talk to. She also really cares about her customers (made conversation, and when we left our table to check out the menu on the wall, she watched our stuff since she was concerned someone would take it-stupidly we left our purse/wallet on the table, but we weren't too far from them!) For drinks, I ordered the basil lemonade with tequila instead of lemon vodka and it was good but a slightly sweeter taste would have been fantastic. The basil flavor was nice (just wish I had a spoon to scoop up all the basil that settled to the bottom!) My friend got a beer and liked it. For food, we ordered the spinach balls, which were okay, better than expected but not amazing. We also ordered the veggie burger; I must say that I really hope the burger was vegetarian because it tasted exactly like meat. I heard the server say it had butternut squash and some other veggies in it; I didn't taste any of that; again, it tasted like meat. It was pretty good but just a lil concerning.
