I came here for my friend's birthday. I was having an absolute blast at Asiento tonight, the bartenders were quick, friendly and on point. All the patrons there we're also friendly and vibin'. I was really loving the place until the terrible rapper/DJ/whatever that is came on. Now, the guy wasn't a terrible rapper, at all. I actually thought he was pretty good. One of the last places I want to hear rap music in on 10:00 on a Friday while I'm talking to my friends and enjoying the environment. Not that I don't dig some underground rap but let's be honest, if music is preventing us from having conversation it better be encouraging us to move our behinds. And it wasn't making me want to move my behind anywhere except out of that place. If the place going from packed to nearly empty wasn't a sign that you shouldn't bring live music back. Then I'm thinking maybe you prefer your place pretty empty, I don't know. Once again, dude had talent but I just didn't go to Asiento on a Friday for live music. I'd love to come back here when there's no obnoxiously loud music and give this place a higher review! read more

Great local spot with good music and an interesting brunch of non pretentious hipster or CEO. Upon walking in, I realized I've visited this establishment years ago... At that time nothing stood out. But this time around, the food, the music, and the drinks will sure make this a regular spot( if it wasn't so far from where I live). Food: Crab cake- 5 stars Good prices and you taste the sweetness and freshness of the crab Shrimp ceviche- 5 stars The veggies in the line juice is fresh and crunchy and the shrimp is simply fresh Burger- 5 stars Those little things are the devil- must get it Shrimp( grill)- 4.5 stars Only because it's like 2 dollars a shrimp and I wish it came with more sauce for the bread Guacamole and chips-4.5 stars Again need more guacamole for the chips. 5 tapas size dish and 2 drinks +tips for a whooping $64. Love the food here and the ambiance. Cool low key place for drinks, music and some bites. I've been to Asiento a handful of times and even recommended it to friends. Unfortunately last night both bartenders failed to acknowledge my cousin and I when we first sat at the bar. We grabbed a drink menu from another customer and patiently waited to be acknowledged. Finally our order was taken and when we received our drinks the bartender shared that she might of made my drink wrong and to let me know if I'd like her to do it over. We also waited very long for our food to come. After one round of drinks and some food we decided to spend the rest of our night at another bar. Really like this place, but I hope the customer service is better next time. read more

Disclaimer: I did not order an alcoholic beverage while I was there, so I can't speak to that. I was more than a little disappointed in the board game selection, since that was really the reason I sought out this bar. My disappointment was somewhat ameliorated by the awesome funk, disco, and old-school R&B jams the DJ was spinning, and by the funky, comfortable atmosphere. And who knows, maybe the drinks are amazing, and that helps make the board game selection seem slightly more amazing. But I now wish I'd donated my parents' old board game collection to Asiento instead of Goodwill. And I wish there was a good board game bar in the Mission! read more

Asiento is so wonderful! I came in with some friends for a quick happy hour and ended up staying for a few hours. The service is great, the food is wonderful for a bar and its in such a great neighborhood. I didn't realize there we're so many great spots in this area. Debbie is fabulous. Screw the bartender. My friend and I showed up here for a birthday party. Shortly after arriving she realized she left her wallet but still wanted to celebrate the birth of our dear friend. The blonde bartender working around 8:30 on Wednesday night (3/15) was very rude and abrasive towards her for not having an ID. Even tho she asked to just have water. He said he wouldn't serve her and that he wouldn't allow us to hang out. I get that it's a liability to have undocumented people in a bar but he could have dealt with the situation differently. Manners and common decency go a long way. I'm never coming back here. Zero stars for asiento and negative 10 stars for the douchy guy serving drinks. read more

I appreciate the response from Debi the owner regarding my previous post. It was a bad night and I was viscerally angry when I wrote the review so let me ammend it now in a more accurate and clear manner. The drinks were in fact good, as was the atmosphere, the cheese plate and the decor. I have up until my last encounter enjoyed coming to this place and it deserves the good stars that it has received I am sure. I have since checked with my bank and the second charge was reversed, following my post. Thanks for taking care of that. To Debi- I still feel there was a little bit of "calling me out" even in your reply to my post. Stopping just shy of using my full name despite it appearing no where on my profile. If I had to guess after years in the restaurant business myself I would wager that this is your first foray into the business. But here is the rub, it's not your living room. I paid WHAT WAS OWED and included a gratuity. You will not like everyone that walks through the door, and I know you want to get all momma bear if you feel someone under tipped (which I did not) but you can't. Unless you want them to write bad yelp reviews and tell everyone they know not to go there. That's how it works. My ego will survive the encounter I hope yours will too. YELP SPECIAL ALERT: $6 drink (originally $8.50) when you check in! What a great place to come and hang out. The urban, home feel it has makes you feel very comfortable and welcomed. The waitresses and bartenders are so friendly that they literally come and hang out with you. You know that bar on How I Met Your Mother that you always wished you could go to? This is that place and for me, this is our new hangout/home. My husband was actually here from 12 PM to 9 PM just hanging out and having a good time. I joined them to watch the Giants game (GO GIANTS!!!) and I am SO glad I came here. The food was pretty good. Good portions in conjunction with the inexpensive prices. -Guacamole and chips: Fresh, chunky, homemade guac that tasted delicious. It was a tad too lemony, as I never put lemon in my guac but I am glad it wasn't too spicy. -Lemon hummus: The breads were pretty good and weren't too hard. The hummus' ingredients blended nicely together. -Queso Fundido w/ Chorizo: MY FAVE! This was SOOOO good and reminds me of the queso I had at an amazing Mexican restaurant in Newport Beach. Gooey, melted, delicious cheese with bits of chorizo that wasn't spicy at all. I am just glad this place doesn't overly spice their food. That's what is going to keep me coming back. -Hot dogs: Premium beef hotdogs that were cooked to perfection. They might have just had these for the Giants game but they were goooooood. And the price was really reasonable. I hope they stick to these as a quick snack while you're drinking. -Drinks: I didn't have any drinks this time but I am planning on going back for their Bitten Cherry and Zombie drinks. The husband said they had a good selection of beers. Lots of creative cocktails for sippers like me. Bonnie was the bartender that came to hang out with our group and had been working the brunch shift. That's how awesome she thinks this place is that she works and STILL wants to hang out there. And with customers no less. She was nice enough to notice that we ran out of chips and quickly got us some more chips. Which was really sweet considering she wasn't working. That's an awesome bartender. Gets us chips and didn't charge us. I really hate places that charge you for extra chips or breads for a dip that goes with chips or bread. Towards the end of our stay, the owner came to hang out with us too! This is a fabulous woman that has a real zest for life. She was so sweet and fun. She gave us a round of beers and when I asked if she had any desserts she said no but gave us some mini brownies. That was enough to curb my sugar craving. Seriously, this place is great and will make you feel at home! This place is for SURE a 5 star place but I am giving it 4 stars, FOR NOW, because they don't have a dessert menu. That was one thing I really missed. Progressive Cafe across the street has ice cream and shakes and that's great but I actually think that Asiento would do really well if they sold awesome shake concoctions. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I think this is the perfect place to have something like that. When one of our friends said they were getting a shake, I got really excited and said, "They make them here?!?! That's AWESOME!" But then he said that we had to go across the street. Since this place is more of a hang out than a restaurant, they would really benefit from having a good, unique dessert menu and would definietely put them more on the map. While visiting San Francisco, we stayed at an Airbnb in the Mission District near Bryant and 22nd. We decided to go out one night and were planning to head downtown, but my husband stumbled across this place as he had walked down to purchase some things from a nearby grocery. We decided to give it a try and were glad we did! They had a list of really cool different cocktails, and the bartender seemed very knowledgeable. I loved the cocktail I tried! We also got some appetizers that were pretty delicious. Their concept of deviled eggs is not the same as our midwestern appetites were used to, but everything else was good! My friends were a little disappointed in the lack of energy among other patrons. We went on a Saturday night; there was a DJ who was playing some good music and open space on the floor, but no one was dancing. (One of my friends went up to the DJ to see if he took requests but he did not.) If you are looking for a more energetic, dance-worthy environment, this is not it. However, it was a great place to grab a drink on our search for a night club. There seemed to be a range of ages among the patrons, and it definitely felt more like a local place than the tourist traps near the Wharf. I'm glad we came here instead of going downtown! I'm a regular at the Monday Trivia Night and pop in for the occasional beer (or three) whenever I can. They have a solid selection of beers on tap and in the bottle and I've always found the atmosphere to be warm and welcoming. The food menu is limited yet diverse and nicely executed. As I've said before, I'm a sometimes-pseudo-vegetarian and the way I've heard people talk about their Juicy Burger, I may have to devote one of my rare cheat days (usually only reserved for St. Patrick's Day and Giants games for superstition purposes) to the consumption of one. With THAT said, I HIGHLY recommend the Guacamole (nature's butter done RIGHT- lightly seasoned but still very flavorful with an admirable consistency), Shrimp Ceviche (it's like a delicious fiesta of shrimp, lime, and cilantro in your mouth- you might even moan in appreciation), the Cheese Plate (Who doesn't like cheese? Especially when it's accompanied by AMAZING house-marinated olives and delicious spiced nuts that compliment the Camembert PERFECTLY. Seriously.), and the Queso Fundido (again, CHEESE! Rich, melted gooey goodness! YUM!). To make a long story short, it's a neighborhood gem that you should definitely check out. And then frequent! read more

I used to live in the Mission near by this really nice bar which also serves great bar food. The feel for the place is really friendly and comfortable. A great place to hang out with friends over beer and/or some terrific mixed drinks and good eats. The owner Debi and her staff (bartenders and kitchen staff) are super nice and friendly. Just the best. Highly recommend this establishment and hope it survives the current pandemic. read more

I was here for a conference sponsored brunch and I very much wanted to like this place but the service was abhorrent. Literally so understaffed for an event of approximately 100 people (capacity is 49 btw) and there was maybe 1 barback and 1 bartender for the whole function the entire time, in addition to 1 waitress/runner girl. Quite a shame that management didn't know how to handle the number of people who had pre-registered for this brunch. I waited 2 hours for my food and my friend waited around the same amount of time. I really wanted to give this place more than 2 stars, but I just couldn't. I went to Asiento with 3 friends on a Friday night. The food was good and so was the music, but the service was very weak. We sat down at the bar and waited for a good 10-15 minutes before we got any attention from the bartenders and that was only because I waved them down. After we ordered food and drinks, they never checked back with us to see if we wanted more drinks (which we did) so again we had to wave them down. I understand if they were really busy and couldn't get to everyone, but they weren't. There were two bartenders next to us rolling silverware and neither one of them asked us if we needed another cocktail or more food. I guess they didn't want to get more tips that night. Such a shame because if the place is fun and the music is good then better service would make this place even better. read more

I went in the evening-night to celebrate some friends' special occasion. Well, I'm sure the restaurant is great, but I am no fan of this place for the following reasons. First, let me start with what I liked. What I liked: - Hip crowd, good looking people - Quaint size - I liked the layout - Really liked the lounge area and dance floor - Good DJs What I disliked, why it's only okay on my rating: - Expensive drinks - I hate paying $8 for a cocktail. I just do. It's like going to a restaurant and paying $2 for a soda pop. I hate it. Yeah, I am cheap. I am. What a cheapo, I am. Truth is, I'll pay $8 for an awesome drink ... but only if it is awesome. What do I mean? Let's use whiskey as an example. Some bottles are really well crafted, have lingering flavor that doesn't display bad cues ... these bottles are worth a lot. Other bottles are just so-so. There's nothing distinct about the flavor, or even a bit bad - moldy and flat. The good ones are well worth north of $100. Bad ones, no. - Noise - I mean I really don't get this part. It's a tiny space, so music volume should follow accordingly. Wouldn't be nice to have some dancy tunes that aren't going to be blowing your ear drums out? I really don't understand why people play music so loudly. Are they afraid that people aren't interested in talking? Are they afraid that if the music isn't so loud that you can't hear yourself talk, then music is not good? read more

it's nice to finally visit asiento with a friend who i can talk to without yelling across the way; i met bonnie and haley who were bartending that night. we had a couple of drinks and sat next to the dj booth which played some old tunes. they have this large chalk board that lists their wine, cocktails and tapas menu. it's definitely a watering hole for the locals in the area. bonnie and haley were so nice and very personable. haley brought some brownies for us to sink our teeth into; really cool. the vibe's pretty chill and intimate here. great to take a few friends to nosh on tapas, enjoy some libations to your heart's content and catch up. i'd come back here again. as you know, it's always such a daunting chore to find parking in this neighborhood since blowfish is also down the street. read more

What a fabulous establishment! I came here under the previous owner several years ago and hadn't been back since. WOW! What a difference. Debi (the owner) has worked magic here to create the most wonderful environment that is perfect for any occasion. Whether it's for having a big party (like just I did on Saturday) or relaxing and playing a board game while sipping a delicious wine, this place is perfect. Debi was so accommodating to us. She created drink specials and signage for the front of the building as well as inside the lounge for our special event. The bar staff were the nicest and most attentive ever. This is definitely a GREAT addition to the neighborhood. I am sad I don't live closer because I would probably hang out here all the time if I did. Also, the food is spectacular. Awful drinks. Terrible service. Ambiance is okay. Ordered two drinks at the bar that were very similar. Bartender served both drinks to me and I asked which one was which. She yelled at me for not understanding the difference between the two drinks and told me that she prefers "self reliance." I responding by joking with her and she whispered some things under her breath while giving me the nastiest look I had seen on my vacation in San Francisco. The food looked good, but I didn't bother eating it since I lost my appetite from the confrontation with the bartender. The previous tenant of this space, Monkeybar, was such a huge disappointment. The location has so much potential, and, thankfully, Asiento has fully realized that potential. Our hood has plenty of dive bar options, but not too many options if you want a classier specialty cocktail and some good eats, and Asiento definitely offers both. My wife and I stopped by Sunday evening and ordered 5 or 6 different tapas (gambas, hummus, bocadillos, spring rolls, crab cakes, and cheese plate, if I remember correctly) and everything was top notch. The cheese board wasn't quite as exciting as everything else, but other than that, the food, drinks and service (hooray Bonnie!) were all really fantastic. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

After a Reiki appointment down the street last Sunday, I met my spouse at Asiento - which he had chosen for proximity, but also based on yelp reviews. Maybe it was partly the Reiki - but Asiento just seemed like the sweetest place to be on the planet at that moment. A dj was spinning at the perfect volume. Breeze was drifting in the open windows. A happy birthday party group of lovely young people were celebrating and eating and laughing. The bartender - perhaps the owner? - gave off this incredibly nurturing vibe. She was handling the whole bar alone, and with ease - knew a lot of the customers by name but treated us as if we were part of the family. All the time with a calm and beatific smile. I had a concoction of vodka, cucumber and rosemary that was out of this world. I might not need the Reiki anymore - just Asiento. read more

This place could have come straight from the set of "Friends": everything is cozy, there are board games, you can get "trendy" tapas and drinks. It's almost so much so that as a whole, I can't figure out the bar's character. It's certainly a far cry from the bar that was here previously (Monkey's I think). Anyway, I only come here for Monday's trivia quiz. The quiz itself is annoyingly USA-centric, so don't even think about playing it without an American sports or pop culture guru in your group. It is unfortunate, as San Francisco is an international city. Thankfully, there are plenty of other quizzes in the city. Food and drinks are both overpriced. I would have beer here and skip their cocktails. As fancy as some of them sound, they have been kind of weak on alcohol. And food is, well, small in portions. It is a well-known fact that the tapas trend is the best thing that happened to restaurant owners in America. Charge full price for tiny dish and... ka-ching! Which misses the whole concept of tapas. Anyway, overall Asiento is not a bad bar, just not a great one, either. read more

Last night I was dancing at Asiento and set my purse down, when I turned around it was gone. I was concerned that my purse had been stolen so I consulted the bouncer and the owner (who happened to be onsite). They were both SO helpful- offering advice, helping me look, letting me use their phone to use Find My iPhone, etc. I eventually found my purse (someone had moved it across the bar) but I just had to post on Yelp! because they were so helpful and kind while I was looking for it.
