We really love going to Asiento for a bite, a great drink and a lovely atmosphere. I am thankful to have this business in the neighborhood and we've always really enjoyed the experience. FWIW, several others mentioned being upset by the no hat policy - In my experience, many bars do not allow sports hats. My last update was not intended to compliment. We decided to go elsewhere - a bar around the corner where we ended the night. No security guard there and no problems either, just a good time, chillaxing. It's not my bar, I don't make the rules here, this is just my opinion. Perhaps being asked to search my bag should not be a deal breaker, but it was. Been in the neighborhood for a long time and I have to say this is the first place with this rule. So, as we were heading into this area for the first time ever, we were trying to find restaurants within a few blocks of our friend's house (the ultimate destination later in the evening). Asiento popped up on Yelp, along with a few notable others, so we opted for Asiento and their tapas menu. As soon as we walked in we realized that this place is much more of a bar than a restaurant, but no matter - we were fine with grabbing drinks and finding a more sit-down spot for after. Their cocktail list is fun -- I opted for their basil lemonade and their rosemary something-or-other before we moved on and loved them both (though the Basil Lemonade was arguably more delicious). My boyfriend also seemed happy with his 'Manhootan', though that's never a particularly hard sell for him. The space is actually really awesome (kind of wish we stayed longer or lived closer): it's pretty big with a lounge-y area, the bar area, and a few tables that are perfect for groups (and for tapas). Plus they have BOARD GAMES! Also notable: super friendly staff with the kind of personalities that more bartenders should have. Upbeat, fun spot. For people looking for a DINNER spot, I wouldn't say that this is your place (just FYI), but if you're looking for a light bite and great drinks, definitely pop in! read more

Cool neighborhoody bar in a less busy part of Mission. It's a great place to chill out, have a couple of drinks, grab a bite to eat, and listen to music. It's got that nice semi-hipster-y wood interior (I don't know how to describe it actually, but I'm going with it). The chicken bocadillos make for a tasty snack. Pine Street beer. Taco Tuesdays. I went to Asiento for the first time a few days ago, and I couldn't believe I hadn't been in before. They atmosphere is very cool and laid back, there is plenty of room (even on a Saturday night it didn't feel too crowded) and tables for those that just want to sit down and chill. There's a great selection of drinks and cocktails and it was all decently priced. They also serve tapas, although I didn't have a chance to try any. The music was good, as was the service. I was so thrilled with the level of customer service when the owner Debi contacted me and truly heard my concerns and responded kindly to them. I was very impressed as to how she invited me back as her guest and made recommendations that I might like better. I gave it a second try and absolutely loved the food! My favorite were the tostadas de tinga and the cheese and chorizo melting pot. DELICIOUS! I was welcomed graciously and enjoyed my night. I highly recommend Asiento! Will be back for sure. read more

This place is a great refuge from the typical Mission bar and since it's a mere block from my place, I'm pretty excited to have such a nice place so close. It's a little pricier than other Mission bars, but it's really laid back and the bartenders are really nice (even when you're being indecisive). I'd go back in a heartbeat! Recently discovered asiento in my n'hood after 2 years of living here-yikes!! Fun place with friendly service and great selection on cocktails and beer. First trip happened to land on taco Tuesday-$2 tacos at very tasty value. They are small but definitely worth 2 bucks. They had a DJ the night we were there but the following week no DJ.... the following week a DJ-it varies with a variation of music from down tempo to drum n bass to trip-hop. Would be nice if they had a set night since there is nothing as nice as drinking great drinks, eating great tapas and listening to great music in the one setting. Also great comfie seating selection, especially on a warm day when they open the main windows, gives a nice outdoor feel. Nice artwork and overall friendly atmosphere at ok reasonably priced prices. read more

I visited SF over the holidays and met up with a group of friends here. Parking was SF (so freakin') horrible, as is customary in The City. The bar is small with limited seating so it wouldn't be ideal for a group of more than 3 unless you don't mind standing. The prices for the tapas style dining and drinks were a bit inflated as the place is kinda trendy. The mixed drinks left a little something to be desired, namely more booze for the asking price. The DJ was one of the things I liked best about this bar. I'm not familiar with the neighborhood, so I scoured Yelp review of this and a few nearby spots. If I returned to the area, I'd check out one of the other bars before going back to here depending on the size of the party that I'm with. read more

Honestly the spot is super cute and we went for Trivia. Being in the mission the drinks are pretty high, and the food while good was insanely small portions for the price especially considering they are tapas. It for sure has a great mood and vibe. Trivia was league play and not as rowdy or interactive as I would like but perfect for the person that is all about the game and the challenge as opposed to the social aspects of it. read more

Had a date lined up and invited him to mission to eat. Looked up tapas and found Asiento. Called to see what the wait was and immediately felt this was the place to go. The host on the phone was so engaging and lovely. Made me feel comfortable and welcomed even though I hadn't even come in yet. 5 stars! Beat my date there so I decided to take a seat in their plethora of furniture, all very comfy looking. Every one of the friendly patrons looked like they were having a great time. What a variety of people! My date arrived and we ordered some drinks from an older woman bartender. She must have been the owner considering how she welcomed us and was all around a delight to meet and interact with. We sat down, finished our drinks and felt hungry. So we went up to the other bartender. She was a younger woman with shorter hair. Complete contrast experience from the other bartender. She was dismissive, impatient and snappish. She got argumentative when my date and I tried to order. She showed her true ugly side. I've met some jerk bartenders in my day (look at my review of the hookah bar) but she totally interrupted what would have been an awesome date with her baaaaaad attitude. I'd say, get rid of her Asiento. You'd have got a five star if she hadn't been there. read more

I love this neighborhood spot, which successfully does all things for all people. Industry folks and tech gals sit shoulder to shoulder on first dates, taco Tuesdays, whatever you wish. Show up hungry and you'll leave sated on one of SF's finest burgers, guac, ceviche and of course the aforementioned tacos. Debi the owner keeps one watchful eye on the proceedings and, her care for the venue and its patrons shines through. Say hello to bartender Moe for me who manages to perpetually put folks at ease and make them laugh while whipping up craft cocktails. I love Asiento! It's been wonderful since Debi took over. The food is so delicious, my favorite dishes are 'The Gambas' and 'Tostadas De Tinga' but the truth is everything is so yummy and fresh. I used to live close by and go several times a week. The staff are all very sweet and the place has a lot of character, it's clean and unpretentious. One of my favorite places to sit at the bar, have a drink, some food and relax. read more

I loved the vibe here- eclectic and loungey. There's a live DJ as well. Plenty of seating, both couches and stools. Cocktails are really tasty but weak. I had two drinks and only felt a slight buzz, which is not typical for me. Tapas are great here. Ceviche is on point, perfect balance of spice, sour, and salt. The gambas are amazing as well. Ordered the Sparkle Pom, a gingery fizzy treat. The atmosphere here is lively and the ladies running the bar are very cool and super friendly. Everyone here seems to know each other, so it can be a little intimidating being here alone waiting for a friend to arrive. The menu is short and I struggle a bit with the food because most of it is stuff I'm allergic to, but the cheese plate is okay. Parking is atrocious; make sure you take public transport. read more
