Today was the first time I've been to Assaggio's at Kahala for lunch. We went for an office party. Assaggio Bistro is located on the corner of Waialae and Kilauea Avenue. They share the same building as Lanikai Juice and UPS. We went early so we had parking but it does fill up easily. We made reservations. We had a party of 11. We were seated right away. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. He took our order and within 7-10 minutes, our food all came. Today, I ordered the Steak Sauce Linguine. It comes with onions and mushrooms. I was told if you like the sauce of their steak, you should order this. I haven't tried the steak before but I know people who rave about the steak so because I was being cheap, I just ordered the steak sauce linguine. It was good. A little too plain for me. I should've ordered it with the calamari steak. I usually order Chicken Anchovy Olio with Alfredo Sauce. It's my favorite dish when I go to Assaggio's. Surprisingly, the service was excellent today considering how busy the restaurant got. The reason for 4 stars was the price for lunch. Our dessert was made far better than my experience last time, and everything was served with a smile. NOT ITALIAN FOOD. Plain. Flavorless. Bad quality. I never make reviews but this place deserves one Worst food ever and way overpriced for watered down spaghetti / angel hair pasta and eggplant. No seasoning in the food whatsoever. It was as if their sauce was tomato sauce mixed with water. The sauce wouldn't even stick on the pasta, so terrible. Plus they didn't even sit us 6 ft apart from people. We had a party of 3, they sat somebody right next to us, the other party was about 2 feet away from our back :) once again, terrible. The food came out quick and it's clear why. Never eating here again ... some of the staff were nice, I blame the cooks for the food and the waiters for bad seating judgment. I have a lot to say about this restaurant so I will run a list straight up... 1. Valet parking, what is the WORLD are you thinking putting one poor guy up there in front of your restaurant to move all those cars. You know your reservations will overtake this one guy. I felt bad for him. 2. Get in, not greeted by the hostess, found our party. 3. Wait help is quick to take our orders and is very specific and attentive. Waters are refilled and so is the ice teas. 4. Food comes out moderately quick and just as quick we realize the food is not good. I would say low to moderate taste. This is not really italian food. I would call it italian with a local style fusion. Meaning...grandma's spaghetti meets italian food. Low on the garlic, low on the butter, and just plain low on the flavor. My others chicken saltimbocca has prosciutto only on ONE chicken and not the other. What is up with that? I have no idea. My daughter who never asks for salt, asked for some to flavor her food. Not good. 5. Ordered desserts. Everyone seemed moderately happy to happy with their desserts. 6. Asking for the bill, ok, this is where it turned from a 2 star to a 1 star review. I will keep this quick but there are more details. Basically the waitress informed us that the bill would be going to my FIL. This was a dinner for their anniversary. So we asked that we get the bill. It was their POLICY to give it to the first person that asks for it. We asked to see the manager. He obviously sent her back to deal with us and she reiterated it. By then, half of my wife's family was upset about it and my that just ruined the whole night. 7. Leave the restaurant, wait for the poor valet to get 12 cars. By himself. 8. Called to speak to the manager, he said it was policy, and basically said "too bad". Then asked us to come back and have the bill voided and then we can pay. Long story short, we will not be returning to this place. Assagio Bistro, I hope that you read this and make appropriate changes. Oh Assaggio, for as long as I can recall, I grew up eating your food at your Mililani restaurant. As a child I loved your lasagna and it was my regular dish until the end of middle school. Fast forward a decade or so later I find out that there's an Assaggio which is literally minutes away from my house, SWEET! I have driven past this Assaggio countless amounts of times and every morning I tell myself, "I'll try this Assaggio soon." I can now proudly say that I've been to the Kahala Assaggio!...but it didn't live up to my expectations. I didn't plan to eat at Assaggio, but when I got a request to eat lasagna I only knew four places that have lasagna. So I figured with Assaggio being so close to home, I ought to give it a shot. I made reservations for 7pm and brought 2 bottles of wine, a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chianti. The parking lot is small but luckily there's valet parking so let the parking attendant worry about finding a stall. The decor was quite nice; it's a little darker than the other locations (which makes it feel more romantic) and has the traditional rose and candle on the table. Our waitress came and told us about the $15 corkage fee and we said we would just drink the Sauvignon Blanc. I have to admit I like the bread. The bread comes out piping hot and is hard and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The best part was that you can get more bread! The Kahala Assaggio may be convenient for me and more on the romantic side but the price and quality of the meal is deal breaker. Pretty tasty! Caesar salad was really good, though a little small. For some reason, the bottom of the pile of linguine on one of our pasta dishes was 'on the cold side', which was puzzling but I wasn't able to confirm. Shrimp scampi was a tilting towards bland, maybe needed more sauce? But it was still tasty enough and the shrimp was fine. The star at our table was the mushroom risotto in my opinion. This new incarnation of Assaggios in Kahala is, unfortunately, no better than the existing terrible locations on Oahu. The menu is largely the same---the only real difference here is the terrible parking, updated decor, and much friendlier table (not reception) service. The major strike against Assaggios is the food----its just not good. It's not even close to Italian food----if this is what cuisine was like in Mother Italy than Italian food would be ranked alongside Slovenia on the culinary ladder of greatness. I've reviewed their food before at the Hawaii Kai location, so I won't go in to detail again here (as its the same). I will mention that yesterday when we picked up a salad to go (my wife likes their house salad) the salad dressing had dead bugs in it. Lovely. Really? That's just sad. read more

I recently came here for a friend's birthday. The ambiance is classy and the lighting is not as dim as other Assaggio locations. The service was fantastic. If it weren't for the awesome wait staff we had, I would have given this place three stars. Our wait staff made us feel welcome with warm smiles and was very attentive with refilling water glasses. They even frequently checked on our little pots of hot water for those of us whom had ordered hot tea. For a party of 9, our food took close to 45 minutes to come out. I understand we had a large party, but it would have been nice if the food came out sooner. When deciding which entree to order, I was torn between the Chicken Olio, Chicken Saltimbocca, and Chicken Sorrentino. I ended up going with the Chicken Saltimbocca. The chicken was lightly breaded and pan fried, topped with spinach, melted mozzarella, and prosciutto in a mushroom white wine butter sauce. It sounded and looked delicious but sadly was quite bland. I had to add a lot of parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper to the chicken and linguine in order to enjoy the dish. I wish the waiter had offered fresh ground pepper, which he offered only to those whom had ordered the table-side Caesar salad. The birthday girl got a complimentary slice of New York style cheesecake for her birthday--yum! Because she was enjoying it so much, the rest of us all decided to order dessert as well. Assagio's is a great place for lunch as well as dinner. Our networking group meets there monthly and we are always pleased with the food, service and ambiance. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and comfortable. The food comes out fast and hot and always delicious! I opted for the antipasto salad and it was big and fresh, with anchovies, prosciutto, marinated veggies and incredible dressing! My cohorts enjoyed chicken parmesan sandwich, house salads, fresh pasta with marinara and more. They always provide crusty bread and butter and keep your water glass filled with attentive service. Yesternight a friend took me out to dinner at Assagio's. Now, I have been waiting to try here for the longest time, and I always find myself right by it whenever I go to Lanikai Juice to order their acai bowls (that you need to pay an added 75 cents for honey). But I was quite happy being surprised by being taken here. Parking was pretty crazy at 7:15, and luckily, we were able to snag a parking without an attendant having to do it for us. The waiter was very patient with us, as we took a lot of time figuring out what to order. I finally settled on their Carbonara (my friend pointed out that "Carb" is the root word of thing, ha). Heads up on the menu, there's some items on the menu exclusive to the ALA MOANA location, so don't be tempted to order it, because you'll just be let down. We also got an appetizer of this spicy seafood mix of clams, shrimp, mussels, and some other unidentified thing under the waiter's suggestion. It went perfectly with the bread. It was perfectly spicy, and I loaded up the sauce on the bread. Yums. I also ordered the Plantation Iced Tea (meh, it was okay, I'd rather have Pineapple Room's one, or Coffee Bean). Then our entrees came, my Carbonara, loaded with glazed diced onions, and BACON was perfectly not too rich, but not too simple either. It was the perfect meal, and I got the small portion, too! Of course I could not pass up the dessert. So I ordered the Tiramisu, which was moistened with the coffee (which KEPT ME UP SO LATE!), and light. Can't go wrong with Tiramisu. My friend got their New York Cheesecake... Which... Tasted like Cheesecake to me. Overall, the people here were really helpful (good suggestions, too!), and friendly. They were on top of it with refills, and were very mindful of their patrons. Italian is one of my favorite types of food to eat. Especially anything PASTA....I am a carboholic for life! Overall, Assaggio's has pretty great tasting food. Although if Yelp had a 1/2 star rating capability, I'd probably lower my rating from 4 stars to 3.5 stars instead. We mostly come here for the convenience of where they are located. It's not a place I'd pick as one of my favorites, but it gets the job done you know? Their parking lot is a tad small, but in busier hours they do have a valet service. Yelp 100 Challenge #62/100 When Assaggio announced some years ago that they would open up this location, I was like, "Hooray!" This is right in my neck of the woods and I love Assaggio. I mean you get the house bread that is always hot, fresh, and yummy. Then you have a good selection of wines and tons of things to choose from on the menu to satisfy anyone's Italian food craving. When I was a vegetarian I really like Assaggio because there were so many options for me and I never felt unsatisfied when I ate there. We recently had dinner there and the service was good as our waters and later coffee was always filled. They packed up our leftovers as there is always an abundance of food. I love there Osso Buco and that is usually my go to. Sometimes parking in the evening may be a bit tougher, but we usually get there by 5:30 to 6:00 pm and never had a problem. For dessert I usually get their tiramisu which is always light and rich at the same time. Overall we are happy at this Assaggio and will be back in the future. read more

I have eaten at Assaggio Ala Moana and Kailua on multiple occasions and the food is aways perfect. I normally wouldn't post a bad review. However, for Easter we ordered about 10 dishes for Lunch from Assaggio Kahala. My son was eating Fettuccine Alfredo and found a short black HAIR in his food. Then while eating my appetizer Eggplant rollatini I found the same short black HAIR in my dish!! That was it...nobody wanted to eat the food. I called Assaggio and I guess the manager there said "What do you want a refund or new food?" I said no to the food as I will never eat at Assaggio Kahala again and offered to only refund the Alfredo and one Eggplant appetizer. He was rude and I guess to busy to talk to me....but had plenty time for take my order. Will never eat here again disappointed and disgusted!!!Especially with COVID you would think they would be more careful. Guess not. read more

I've been to this location a few times and it has been relatively the same as the others. The menu has a pretty decent selection of pastas, seafood, chicken, etc. I went with the mussel maranaria this time and it was pretty delicious. They came with a lot of mussels and the flavor of them were very packed with yummy sauce and flavor. The portion size was just right (I got the small) and I was very proud I didn't need a to-go box this time! The service here was very good, they seated us as walk ins within a couple of minutes. Everyone was polite and assisted us with everything. The only downside to this location is that the parking lot is sorta a traffic mess, even with valet. read more

I.love.assaggio. But the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the portion size. I feel like these days the portions are a lot smaller than it used to be! My father-in-law always insists on having everyone order the dinner portion so we can take leftovers home and before we used to hardly make a dent in our entrees. However, lately I've noticed that they don't give as much so I usually don't have as much leftovers to take home! Their menu is so extensive and customizable! I always feel bad because I have so many requests for substitutions when I order but the waiters/waitresses are always so nice about it! My usual order is the Sicilian chicken with creamy pesto (instead of the sauce that is usually comes with) and instead of the roasted potatoes I get linguine. I also ask to add spinach to it. I also really love their Caesar salad and bread!!! I usually eat so much of it that I'm full by the time my pasta is served! Last night my girlfriends and I came to this location for dinner. We usually go to the assaggio in Ala Moana but they stopped serving the filet mignon at that location. Plus this one is near home. I've came here several times ever since the pandemic happened. And every visit was satisfying. However, my recent visit. Our server had us waiting almost the whole time. It was hard to flag her down. I ordered a soda and she told me it was a one time refill only. And when I got my soda it was mostly ice and maybe 10% soda. Such a rip off. One zip and my soda was already half gone. I decided to just drink water and found all our drinks had black stuff in it. I asked a random worker politely if I could get my water changed and explained that there was something in our water. He looked annoyed. Came back and slammed the water on our table. My bf whispered to me and said "I think he's upset" I don't usually like to bother the workers since I know how it is to walk back and forth. But you sign up for the job and it is to be expected. The Assaggio Bistro in the Kahala section of Honoulu is the newest of six Assagio Restaurants in Hawaii. I recently had an opportunity to dine here at their Kahala location for the first time; I've been to the Ala Moana Center and Mililani locations before. The occasion? A small, infrequent reunion of colleagues that worked together in the Honolulu publish relations firm, Professional Communications (ProComm), which was owned by the Starr Seigle McCombs agency, which at the time was Hawaii's largest. It was good to see old friends again. Our waiter kept coming around and asking if we were ready to order, and of course it was a while before we were, but I have to admire his patience. I actually knew what I was going to have because I'd checked out their menu online at the website earlier, once our venue was established. First of all, good bread, with big pats of butter - no stingies here. For an appetizer, I decided on Artichoke Peperonata. I've had marinated artichokes before (who hasn't?) and I've had peperonata before. I like them both but haven't had them together, so I thought I'd try it. It was a beautiful presentation - bright red sweet peppers accented by pale green artichoke hearts laid on top of a deep-green square of lettuce leaf, sprinkled with capers, and ribboned with deep-green basil chiffonade. The vinaigrette was nice and tart, flowing gently on the plate with olive oil, a perfect complement to the pepper salad. My entrée was Sicilian Chicken - boneless chicken thighs pan fried in olive oil and garlic, with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms in a light white wine sauce, accompanied by roasted potatoes. I ordered the small portion and as you can see by the picture, their definition of "small" differs considerably from mine. The serving was more than adequate, and now I'm curious to see what their "large" portion looks like. The chicken was excellently flavored, simply prepared but nicely cooked, and the potatoes, oh my God the potatoes, were as good as any I've ever had. Add the mushrooms, sweet red and green bell peppers, garlic bits and a nice sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese, and there you have it - a wonderful meal. I ordered a tiramisu to be shared with my dinner mates. It wasn't bad, a little light on the mascarpone and heavier on the whipped cream, and it came to us kind of lopsided ... not the greatest presentation, to be sure, but not bad tasting. If I were rating it for my long-gone tiramisu website, I'd give it about a 6 or 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. The restaurant is a bit hidden; it's next to Lanikai Juice, which has a big sign. Assagio Bistro itself has a sign as well, but it's not lit up at night so if you didn't know it was there, you might miss it as you scan the area. That's a little "bugable-worthy," if you ask me. Just tried the new Assagio's located in Kahala. I was wowed by their romantic ambiance. We got to be seated in their private party room, which can accommodate up to 30 people. We had 17 people, so we took up half of the room, and luckily, there was no other party, so we got the whole room to ourselves. The wait service was very friendly and attentive. Assagio's offers a full menu from appetizers to salads to entrees to desserts from pasta to potato and rice, and seafood, chicken and steak. Pretty much whatever you are craving, they got it. I had ordered the Filet Mignon, large portion for $31.50 with potatoes. I must say that I enjoyed the potatoes more than the filet. The filet was cooked just right and very tendered with sautéed mushrooms and onions on top, but the potatoes were the best I had at any restaurant. I guess I am just in a carb frenzy craze. The portions were huge, so I had half of my meal leftover for lunch. The rest of the party ordered a variety of different pastas, all of which smelled excellent. And if you are a scallop lover, you will love it here, they offer some of the biggest scallops I seen at restaurant. Costco size scallops! Small portions generally run from $16 to $19 and large portions run from $19 to $24. But the portions are huge, most of us had doggie bags to take home. read more

The rundown: -Shared parking with other stores and restaurant. -Well lit. -Nice staff. -Good bread. I enjoyed this Assagio because it was well lit. I found that some of the other locations are dimly light, for the ambiance, but it makes it hard to read the menu. However this location had an appropriate balance. The staff was very friendly and our waiter was very attentive. I love bread when eating out! And I loved Assagio's bread, which is served warm. Not authentic Italian, but I'd say it makes for a great dinner date or nice dinner night out. All of the food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meal. In all honesty, being that this restaurant is located in Kahala.. I assumed this would have done a little better in leaving a positive lasting impression. Instead it left majority of us extremely annoyed and hungry. I don't want make this drawn out bc I was a guest, not the host of the party but we were in the private room for my friends Graduation dinner, and although our server was doing the best she could with a large party.. the kitchen needs to be better staffed or retrained. For whatever reason, they thought it would be ok to send out SOME dishes, and let the complete other half of the party wait at least 15-20 mins until their food could be dropped off. So basically we were done eating by the time the other side of the room even caught a whiff of their food. Some of the sauces were burnt, the noodles were still stiff and stuck together, someone's chicken was cold. We had to ask multiple server assistants for refills which took forever to come. What a sh.tshow! My poor friends mom was too busy flagging down the staff instead of enjoying herself. The kicker is that she said she offered to order everyone's food days in advance and someone at the restaurant told her it wasn't necessary. Lol. All this commotion and the manager didn't even bother to come by, but I saw her checking up on smaller tables. Our server had to remove some things off our bill bc it never came or it was not edible, so I would have thought the Manager would have stopped by to check up but that was too much to ask or expect. Literally only bright note was the Bread, and the really nice parking attendant. I wish I got his name. If there's no parking he'll offer to valet your car for free BUT he does work off gratuity so bring cash just in case. He was wonderful though. I've gone to every Assaggio location on this island multiple times.. except for this one, and i'm glad to say I didn't miss out on anything. Luckily the Hawaii Kai one isn't that far away. I ended up at Assaggios for a work event last week. Kahala not being my normal stomping grounds, I mapquested and it was really easy to find. Parking at 11:30AM? Not easy! I went around the parking lot once, to make sure the restaurant was there since you couldn't really see it from the intersection and then again to park, but the second time I realized you can't park on the side of the building because the spots are all reserved and the regular Assaggio spots are all taken. I ended up parking across the street at Kahala mall and walking over. I'm one of those people who don't mind walking but after my little adventure I ended up 10 minutes late. Yikes! Anyway, because it was a work event, we had a pre-fixed menu with consisted of a house salad, chicken assaggio, and chocolate gelato for dessert. The salad was okay, romaine lettuce, tangy dressing, cubes of cheese. The chicken assaggio was really good, juicy chicken with olives, red peppers, mushrooms, peppercinis all sauteed in a buttery sauce over thin pasta. Their chocolate gelato was okay, but by that time I was stuffed with lunch and iced tea so a lot went to waste. Majority of the clientele at that time were likely AARP members, so there was a very calm aura around the restaurant. Assaggio's k is perfect for a lunch date or I would definitely come here for meetings or showers They have a little room which fits around 20ish people and it's nice because it isn't totally closed off from everything but is still relatively private. read more

Being that this location is in a nice part of town, you'd think that the staff and service would reflect that; however this was not the case. Let's start off with the Hostesses. There were three of them, all of which were very unprofessional in appearance and attitude. We were not greeted as we entered the establishment and they were not even busy. We stood at the podium/desk for a good few minutes before either of them even decided to look up. We arrived a few minutes early and they told us to sit and wait, fine. The first Hostess was wearing black footwear that had been taped with CLEAR MASKING tape all around the front. The second Hostess was dressed in the tightest and shortest mini skirt, paired with an equally tight blouse. The third Hostess was the worst of all. When it was time for us to be seated, she didn't even call us. She just stood there with the menus walked a few feet, looked back at us with a look on her face that basically said "ummm, hello? I'm going to seat you." We proceeded to follow her and she decides to walk us through a waiter who was preparing a salad for another table, completely rude to disrupt them. When she finally sat us, we realized the table was open the entire time. Amongst ourselves, we casually mentioned this and she overheard as she was walking away. She turns around, comes back with this ugly attitude and says "YOU WERE EARLY, SO WE WEREN'T ABLE TO SEAT YOU." I understood we were early, but its not like the restaurant was busy or someone was sitting at the table we were at. Had we been able to be seated earlier, we could've ordered drinks instead of having to sit by the front door with the sun blaring in. This brings me to my next point: they basically RUSHED us while we ate. The busboys kept trying to take our dishes away with food STILL left on them that we were still eating. Countless times they reached over our shoulders trying to grab our utensils. We weren't even there for that long. The only good thing about this place was the valet service outside. 2 stars is just for the service, food quality has significantly decreased over the years. Ordered the NY steak 3x and all 3x it has been the poorest, cheapest quality beef. Others whom I've ate with also agreed and said this does not even look like a NY cut. It had so much fat, only 10% or less of meat and the meat was like a rubber tire. I threw it away. Not to mention they always leave that burnt black stuff all over my chicken and steak every time. So I will no longer be dining here. read more

Beware-Very Unprofessional & Disrespectful Customer Service Ever! Had dinner on Saturday, June 9th, with my boyfriend at this location. We've been coming here for the past 3 years for date nights, special occasions & family get togethers. Overall service had been great, till our most recent dinner on June 9th. As we walked into the restaurant around 8:15pm, a young hostess (saw only her up front) greeted us in such a UNPROFESSIONAL & DISRESPECTFUL manner. She gave us an annoyed look with no welcoming smile, as she asked if we had a reservation. Restaurant wasn't busy at all. As she then sat us at our table & left our menus, she still had an attitude. Didn't get hear name, they don't have their FOH employees wear name tags-maybe they need to. Very unfortunate but still no excuse for this employee's rude distasteful behavior at such a great restaurant. Will NOT be recommending anyone to this location & will WARN friends of our experience. read more
