This is my first review on Yelp and I am glad it is going to Assal Pastry. This bakery is a hidden gem in Irvine. The story: I needed to get a last minute cake for a birthday party and I found Assal Pastry in the Super Irvine shopping center. The service: As soon as we entered the store, we were received by a very welcoming lady who quickly addressed our needs. She gave us different options in terms of flavor, size, and price. Once we paid, she thanked us for our business and wished us well. The business: The store was clean and all baked goods looked fresh. There was a variety of selections to choose from. The prices are reasonable. My only recommendation is that the owners work on lighting inside the store as it felt slightly dark when we walked in. I highly recommend this bakery as a stop for fresh cakes and Middle-Eastern sweets. We will be returning. read more

this place is very interesting since I'm not Persian. I stumbled upon this bakery after I was waiting on a table of perian people and they had brought in their own cake. I brought them all plates and utencils and they offered me a slice, the slice of cake I had was very light and lightly sweetened, different from all the super sweet frosted American cakes. When I walked in the store, after finding it's location, I found there were a lot of different choices in there and all are very deliscious looking. the lady behind the counter was very helpful when I asked her how her store worked(as in prices) and what the cakes were made of. Got some baklava, two over goodies and a cake all for about $22. I am definitely coming back again for more. only problem was the store was very tiny and I felt very cramped since there were a lot of customers. read more

I absolutely love this pastry shop. I have been a customer for 10+ years. Most of the pastries that I buy are the French style, as interpreted with a Persian twist! The Napoleon, Eclairs and Fruit tarts are incredible. However the star is their fresh fruit filled cakes, mainly Strawberry, Banana or Pineapple! The staff is very efficient and polite. You can be in an out in minutes even when there are multiple customers in the store. read more

Ok so I would frequent this place a lot in the last couple of months, but now not so much as it is far and the pastries are fair. Their cannolis are sometimes really good and other times are ok as are their mini individualized cake slices. I've actually found their lil cake rolls yummier than the other stuff they have. Haven't tried their baklava, but their cookies are good. I also ordered cakes couple times. The last time we ordered a cake was for my dads bday... it was ok...compared to the previous times we ordered from here. It seemed like it was put together sloppy...their strawberries were very sour, pinneapple too sweet, sponge bread too dry, and the cream had a weird taste. It was such a let down that its not one of my favs as it was for a short period of time. Maybe it depends on who's there baking?? =/ Also when i picked up the cake, i was sold on buying this custard plate thing decorated with strawberries for about $25 which the lady kept repeating was fresh. Once again the strawberries were sour and the custard had some sections that didn't taste as flavorful...tasted like it had been there awhile. Seems like i was charged more for the ceramic plate than the custard. I didn't want to not like it, but this experience brought down my expectations of it. It is a Persian bakery. The quality of their pastries is very good. THeir rollers are fine and light for the most part. They also have very nice trays which makes nice gift. Their pastry is so good that if their space was large enough could become a very nice code shop. The sugar is pretty noticeable on their sweets. There isn't really anything Gluten free. The place is clean and their prices is in the right average. It is in a shopping center so usually there isn't a parking problem. The girls are nice and accommodating. I would give them five if they had gluten free section. read more

My cousin was visiting from NY and found this place using Yelp. I fell in love with the very first bite! Their pastries, cookies, cakes, etc. are all excellent. But I agree with some other posts that the service is a little "reserved" if you don't speak the same language. They're nice, cordial. But not nearly as friendly as they are to other customers I watched while waiting in line. read more

Loved everything I've tried here! Delicious Persian goodies and light fruit cakes. Ordered several cakes including pineapple and strawberry and mocha banana, and everyone loved them! Ok so I'll start off by saying that the reviews which mention lack of customer service as well as poor treatment of ppl who aren't Persian are probably true. Having worked with A LOT of Iranian ppl and being one myself, I know this can be an unfortunate tendency. I don't get it. It's bad business. We live in the melting pot that is America so having this kind of attitude makes absolutely no sense. (I just realized I made it sound like I'm like that too, I'm NOT, my mama raised me right!) Ok enough with the preaching, let's get down to why you stumbled onto my review: dem pastries. Errthang they have here is good! And fresh! Customer service aside, they gots good shit. My fave: creampuffs. I could eat those bad boys all day errday. Fruit tarts are amazing, as well as the zulbia bahmieh (those little honey-colored balls of sticky goodness). The tiramisu is aight and their cookies are yummy (all of them). If u don't see prices, um don't complain on Yelp, just ask, it's that simple. I am going to this store for almost 6 years but today's trip is my last trip. I know Persian people are not best in customer service and treat everyone with bad behavior and as you are black, white or brown as long as you are a non-Persian. They kind of nice to white people as they claim their aryan- ness. Lol. By the way today's incident was very classic. I walked into the store, as usual 4 people Starr at me without smile. I asked for a cake that cost $37 paid then asked for a plastic knife . The girl looked at me and said " we have no knife". I was very surprised as I got cake from that store many times before and always got a plastic knife . One of the young sales girl looked at the girl who told me no knife and talk to her in Farsi " we have knife, why did you told her no". The girl said that knife is not for everybody". I guess those knifes are not for non Persians. I smiled and left. That idiot girl does not know that I understand Farsi very well. read more

sooooo pricey for what you get. i went there a couple times and the second time the pastry i got was not even edible. it was totally dry and you could tell it was at least 2 weeks old! the first time i got zoolbia bamieh and it was pretty good but common people i paid $12.00 for a little box that didnt last more than 2 days. read more

Best Persian bakery in all of Southern California hands down! Everything is so fresh and light tasting. Not overly sugary like other bakeries and pastry shops. Whenever we are in OC we make sure to go pick up a box of their delicious pastries. Highly recommend the cream puffs and Napoleons but everything is excellent! read more

this place is literally around the corner from my house and i've always wanted to try their scrumptious looking desserts. well that day finally came, as i wanted to take some treats for my coworkers so i stopped by to pick up some goodies. they were rather busy for a tuesday afternoon (which is a good sign) and i was greeted and helped promptly. i couldn't make up my mind with so many items to chose from, so i went with the pre-made tray of bite size pastries. it had about 20 small, bite size pieces of cream puffs, eclairs, coffee cake, vanilla cake and chocolate cake for $20. kinda pricey if you ask me (considering the size of the pastries). all their pastries are $12.99/lb which is a bit steep. taste-wise, they were A-OK (didn't really blow me away) and prices were high, but they looked darn good and pretty. read more

Read the previous reviews, but still wanted to check it out. I prepared myself for the possible rude service, but I was totally surprised. I walked right in and was immediately greeted with a "Hello" and "How are you?". Since I was the only customer, I received immediate service. However, I must footnote this review with the fact that I entered the bakery on a Friday at 1 pm. I deliberately did this to avoid any potential after-lunch crowd hoping to get better service without having to fight a crowd of people. Anyways, I got the fruit tart, napoleon and tiramisu. I'm not a fan of super sweet desserts, so these were totally up my alley. They were sweet, but not super sweet and I enjoyed every bit of all 3. The fruit tart had a tart crust on the bottom with a layer of chocolate on the inside and whipped cream on top of that. Then there was a layer of at least 5 fruits (strawberry, pineapple, grape, blackberry, blueberry) to finish off the tart. The napoleon had many layers of phyllo dough with whipped cream between the top 2 layers. Then sprinkled on top with crushed pistachios. Lastly, the tiramisu tasted like all other tiramisus I've had. Overall, I'm a fan of the 3 desserts I got. I need to go back to try the other desserts. Can't wait!!! read more
