I guess this makes this the first "meaningful" review. I honestly really enjoy myself here. I went to the other location a couple times, but when I did, it was so crowded it was hard to enjoy myself. I got here around 9:30pm on a Saturday night and it wasn't quite dead, but it wasn't buttcheek-to-buttcheek crowded lol The servers/bartenders there were really nice and friendly. It was our first time at this location and they explained the differences in their menus. They have a specially created shoyu ramen that I really want to try next time (I came here after a mediocre dinner that filled me up... what a waste of space lol). Apparently the guy who opened the place spent much time and effort on the broth of that shoyu ramen and that broth is only available at this particular Astro. Anything that has that much effort and care put into it is worth trying at least once! I also want to try the chashu bowl next time. According to the guy working there, it kind of reminds him of a pork adobo lol. There's a lot of room at the bar and at the lounge-y area. There are 5 rooms, which is a 2 room improvement from the other location. Just a tip and point of reference, if you want to use a room, you should call ahead and make a reservation! Just passing on their advice to us! I'm not a beer-guzzler, so I ordered a white peach cocktail. The cocktails are made with shochu (aka soju). Definitely want to try the Calpico and lychee ones next time too! It was really good and sweet, but at the same time, still potent enough (for a lightweight like me lol). They have Asahi black and Sapporo on draught. We ordered some takoyaki to much on. It wasn't bad. Not the best takoyaki I've had, but definitely perfect to munch on! If you sit in the open mic area (as opposed to the private rooms), you can use their touch-screen devices (with a stylus) to search for your song. Unfortunately, you can't make your song reservation on the machine at this location. But you can just write down the song number and pass it to one of the servers and they will input it for you. Song selection includes Korean, English, Japanese, and apparently some Filipino songs. They're not the most updated, but they have all the classics. It's $1 per song in the open mic area. The private rooms are $5 per person. I'll definitely be back here for more. It's just such a fun environment. People cheer for each other at the end of the song, regardless of your degree of tone-deafness haha Note: The later it gets, the drunker the customers get, and the funnier their performances get. read more

The GF and I went there for karaoke. We got a karaoke box and had an awesome time. We purchased a bottle of iichiko with club soda and lemons. Tony was our server and I want to give a shout out to him for his awesome service. The song selection is quite extensive and the karaoke system itself is easy to use and sounds great. If you love karaoke you definitely need to come to Astros! Me and my friends come here regularly for drinks and karaoke fun! Aside from karaoke they have a bar, darts, and food! This place can be a hit or miss. Sometimes they're not busy, sometimes they have no rooms available. I would definitely call ahead to see if they're busy! The way it works is as long as each person buys a drink it cancels out the room fee. Such a deal! I really love the employees here, they check up on you often and are really laid back. Lyfts were ordered, sitters arranged, and then 45 minutes before our reservation time, I get a call saying they overbooked & there was NO room for us. 5 minutes later I would have been in the Lyft already. Dive karaoke bars, does this place have functional karaoke in the main bar... not really, but ppl don't come here for that. After eatting dinner at Azabu next door and seeing that this place was connected we decided to check it out. For those local South Bay people that know this area this place is in the corner of the plaza the one where Pizza Hut and the loft are and this place back in the days was Radio Shack. This place is not bad it was $5 w/drink an hour for the room so it's good if you have a group of people. I haven't been karaoke in a long time so i don't know what's all good or not i remember back in the day you would have to look in a book write down the code of the song you want to sing lol. So being all high tech and stuff they had a little wireless box where you can search for artists and songs they have and put them in the cue and if you want you can cancel it anyways it was a fun place. We've been here a handful of times and have always had fun. The place is fun if you're buzzed. You can sing karaoke in front of a crowd for 1.50 a song if a private room is not your thing. The food is good and you can order from Azabu next door. The reason I'm only giving it two stars is 1. The service- we sat at the bar on our most recent trip and got very little attention. Our order of wings came out 20 minutes after we ordered it and spoke to several bartenders. Not only that, but we saw our order come out and be delivered to a karaoke room only to come back and sit at the bar for a few minutes before getting delivered to us. 2. The bartender tried to pull a fast one on us- we asked for the driest sake they had on the menu. She proceeded to poor an inferior/sweeter sake into a flask and try to serve it to us. When I asked us what she had poured, she confirmed that it was what we had asked for. It wasn't until I asked to see the bottle did she admit that they were out of what we asked for. I'm a regular at the lomita location and have become friends with the workers there, and I have to say they are some of the nicest and patient people you will ever meet. The biggest difference between the two locations is that: 1. This bar is at least 4x the size of the lomita location 2. People don't really sing outside at the bar here, however, at lomita everybody sings and it's more intimate (you'll create friendships as long as you're not creepy) 3. There's a restaurant connected to it this one with a chef ready to make what you request (the bar food is already good but this boosts it to another level) So anyways, I had the omelette chicken rice, pork katsu curry, chicken wings, and french fries. The omelette rice was DELICIOUS, I haven't had it in a while and maaaaan I got a nosebleed from the rush of endorphins. The pork katsu curry was so juicy and tender AND WOW, the rice was EXACTLY the way I like it - sticky and not too wet (get your mind out the gutter people). Finally, the chicken wings and french fries are always made on the spot so they are a great compliment to the Japanese beer and sake, BTW, did I mention they have Lagunitas here and Stone IPA at the lomita location? To sum it up, bring a close group of friends or a date and you won't regret it! (Perfect for first dates TRUST fellas). read more

I love this place! It's a Japanese bar so you can't come here thinking you can order a gin and tonic but they do have a wide variety of Japanese cocktails. They have three beers on draft: Kirin, Asahi, and Sapporo. This place also serves food. The pizza is pretty good but I think my favorites are the fried chicken wings and fried calamari. Both are served with a wedge of lemon and it's really tasty and perfect with beer/drinks. Servers here are always super friendly and they're just fun people. This place also has karaoke rooms which you can reserve for parties. Also, if you order at least $5 of drinks per person per hour, the room charges are free! There are sometimes people also singing at the bar area. There are two astro bars. This one is serving up ramen option while the other has sushi. This location is also bigger than the other. More karaoke rooms and bigger bar area. Overall, this place is a good place to wind down after a day of work and grab and beer and a quick snack. It can get pretty packed on weekends. read more

We were in the area and the group I was with had NEVER been to a karaoke place where you can rent your own room. We went during the day time. WORST. EXPERIENCE. EVER. It looked like the place was trashed from the night before and whomever closed didn't want to clean it up so we had to wait for her to clean up the room before we could be seated - and she cleaned up ALL the rooms, then seated us, instead of cleaning 1 room and seating us in there. The buttons on the machine were all in Japanese and when we asked how to use it - she got really annoyed. I'm apparently the wrong asian. Sorry, I can't use google translate to figure out which button did what. The english songs all had cheesy videos (not the artist's music videos) which is to be expected so that wasn't so bad. There is NO song list - you just have to punch in the artist or song title - that's it. They have a very good selection of Japanese, not so much in Chinese or Korean =( The kitchen was closed (it was 2pm) so we had to figure out lunch on our own. We could bring food in but not drinks. They didn't offer free refills on sodas. I think she knew that we were annoyed with her attitude b/c she became a little nicer by the time we left. This place needs better customer service training and to staff at least 1 person in the kitchen. Also whomever closes should probably clean up b/c it's nasty seeing stacks of cups/mugs and old food just sitting on the tables. This place is super affordable and priced fairly. The price point is very affordable if not cheap especially for the incredible service. I loved this place! I went on a Saturday night and it wasn't overly crowded. At first when I walked in I got scared because it looked like a normal bar and there was a guy at the bar doing karaoke (terribly haha!). But it turns out in addition to their "open mic" style karaoke in the main room, they also have private rooms in the back. I am used to going to the no-rae-bang places in K-Town like Rosen Music Studio and this was such a pleasant surprise compared! It was definitely a great deal because we got the room for free as long as we all ordered drinks. Maybe it was just a special deal for just that night or because it's newly opened and they want to get people in, but it was a steal! So we each got beers for $5 and then got the room for an hour, then we ordered another round of beers, and stayed until closing. A night of fun karaoke (WITH drinks) for $10 each?! You won't get that in K-Town! And here the staff was really nice, which you also won't get in K-town, waha! The English song selection is a little strange, but for the most part you'd find the normal karaoke songs you'd expect. The catalog is all digital (no books to flip through) via a touch screen console that you can search by song title or artist. That little machine was definitely a bit hard to figure out at first but we got the hang of it after a few times of the same song starting over and over again. Awesome price on karaoke since drinks help to cover the price for the room. I am going to be spending at least the $5 per person per hour, so karaoke is essentially free for me. Beer here is pretty limited to Sapporo, Kirin, Asahi and Blue moon, but they have a decent amount of sake to choose from. They also have some good cocktails that are pretty tasty. This place is a bitter-sweet one for me. I usually go for the more mellow Karaoke Bars (like Norebans in K-town) but out of all Karaoke Places here in the South Bay, this is one of the best. The food here is great especially the POTATO FRIES - it's a MUST HAVE!! Great selection of songs (japanese and english), clear sound systems and definitely a great hangout spot as a group - locals from this area are in for a treat as it seems like everyone knows EVERYONE here! Came here on a weekend and the place was bumping. We wanted a private booth and were able to get one right away. The karaoke is free, as long as you order more than $5 in drinks per person/hour. Not a problem for my thirsty friends and I. The song selections appear to differ between the main room and the booths. Our digital controller ran out of batteries, but the staff was good about replacing it. The rooms have the summon button, which is always a big plus in my book. Read before you go. Don't attend with large groups. We had a semi large gathering here (about 20, 25 people) and the staff was not only not attentive to our needs but seemed to dislike that our group was actually having fun. After spending nearly a thousand dollars here, yeah a thousand dollars, they wanted to charge us for singing karaoke in the main area!!! (which was about 90% populated by us). Then to top it off while singing Bohemian Rhapsody (clearly a cloud favorite) they turned off our microphones volume presumably because we were being too loud and rowdy which was extremely rude and showed how little regard this establishment has for its customers. After mentioning it they actually tuned our microphones on to such a little amount that it was insulting and they absolutely lost my respect not only for this incident but for how we were treated the whole time. It seemed as thought we were an inconvenience to them from the moment we walked in even though we were a large group and probably spent about 80% of what they made tonight. This probably isn't the case for small groups but the way the staff conducted themselves to our group and the disrespect they showed made me create a yelp account to keep them accountable so so enter at your own risk. Astro Karaoke is easy to get to but hidden in the corner of a large strip mall. After reading all of the local karaoke club reviews (thank you yelpers) I decided on Astro for it's location and general lack of sleaziness to host a family karaoke night for 12. I wasn't disappointed. The food is exceptional for a karaoke club. I think this is due in part that they share a kitchen with a fine dining restaurant next door. As mentioned, the pizza and fries are crowd pleasers, but the pasta with mushrooms was the surprise winner. A pitcher of Sopporo was $28, a pitcher of coke was $10. Service was excellent. The room I booked 3 days in advance. Was not a hassle at all. Due to all the food and drink we ordered it was free for 3 hours. It was very clean, and comfortable. Note the rooms are not sound proof. It was quiet enough to give the illusion of privacy and that was enough for the drunk people. The only negative is they have no printed copy of the songs available. I would recommend making a 8x11 double sided paper copy, and just have 3-4 updated copies available at the bar if someone asks. It made the process for 12 people complicated. That and the machine is in Japanese. We never did completely figure it out. Also when a song starts you can not stop it, but with luck you can fast forward it, or with our bad luck you can start it over 5 times. Also our group ranged in age from 2 - 82, and everyone had a good time; it's family friendly if you leave by 9pm. read more

Astro's new larger location that just opened up a couple months ago. There are more Karaoke rooms (5 so far) and a more spacious bar area. This location shares a full kitchen with another restaurant, so the menu has expanded and food gets out quicker. One of my favorite spots for Karaoke, mostly because its well kept, you can get food and drink, and the rooms are free as long as each person orders $5 worth of drinks an hour, which is pretty easy to do. The staff is very friendly and prompt, and the food is very good. Overall it is a good value, and gives you services not usually offered by other private-room karaoke joints. The music selection is primarily catered to Japanese customers, but there is a decent English song selection, and some of the newer machines have more songs. A larger english selection would be nice though (hint hint). last note: The Shoyu Ramen is da bomb and a great value. Goes great with a pitcher of Sapporo. read more

Planned a large group event 2 weeks prior notice. On arrival we were told that 2 of there best beer were not in stock. So beer options were limited and certain foods were not available. We had our own wine but was turned down because of a $15 charge per item. You would think that because they screwed up on the beer order for that day they would at least let us drink our own wine. Staff is very friendly, the location is really nice compared to everything in Korea Town. Walls are not sound proof so you can hear everyone around you during times. Plus NO HARD LIQUOR AVAILABLE, that for us was the nail in the coffin. I went there last night with my best friend and the guy im seeing cause we wanted to belt a couple tunes out. Not sure what i was expecting, but i was mildly surprised. It wasnt dingy- the ambiance was actually quite nice. Five dollars an hour for a room to karaoke in was great, but i wasnt into the fact that that only applied if you didnt leave the room since im a smoker. Drinks were reasonably priced as well as the food. The smoked salmon on the smoked salmon salad didnt taste the best. The device used was easy to use, but they didnt explain how to skip somgs and it took us a while to figure out how to do it.
