After reading the reviews decided to give it a try. It's a large restaurant with Greek decor, the decor was over the top. Waited a few minutes to seated and had a booth. The waitress took about ten minutes before our order was taken. We got a small pizza, souvlaki and spanakopita. The souvlaki came with lettuce which is not the Greek way of serving it. It was ok ok and tasty. Pizza was average, but spanakopita was good. The best part was the cold beer. Service was to slow for lunch time, the decor needs to be toned down and clean the place our booth was torn and dirty. Will not go back. read more

The evening started out promising. Our server was initially attentive and took out appetizer and drinks order in a timely fashion. At the same time we ordered a kids cheese pizza for our 6 year old. Shortly thereafter, we put in the order for the rest of our table. While we received all our dishes, the kids cheese pizza still had not come out after 40 mins. We have to assume that our server forgot to put that order in. He assured us "the kitchen was working on it." Another 30 mins went by and still no pizza. Our 6 year old was able to eat off everyone else's dishes. Finally, we got the pizza (which was mediocre at best). We then waited another 20 mins to try and get our bill. A teenager behind the counter was probably the most helpful at this point. Management was made aware of the issue with the pizza by our server (who in fairness wanted to rectify the situation by taking the pizza off the bill). However, the owners refused to entertain the idea of comping the pizza and refused to acknowledge the error on the restaurant part. While I have tried to be understanding to the food industry in the midst of the pandemic and rising prices, this sort of disinterested and outright rude behavior is unacceptable. I doubt management reads their reviews - several recent reviews talk about the deterioration in customer service - clearly they are not interested. Stopped here one sunday, after having their former location cater an event I attended. Ordered a gyro wrap and my girlfriend ordered a calzone. The food came out within 14 minutes. The waitress was really friendly and gave us great service. the only grip is the gyro came out just warm instead of hot! The cheese wasn't't melted like I would have liked. Also the "teritazzi" lacked flavor and next time I will subsitute with ranch dressing. My girl said the calzone good. She had no complaits. Definitely will go back. read more

This place is terrific! A family-owned restaurant, which is an anomaly in chain-crazy, status-conscious Atlanta. I've been going here for their Athens Special Pizza for over twenty years, and even though I've moved away from Atlanta quite a while ago, this is one place I keep coming back to. Their Greek Pizza is a deep-dish delight done with feta as opposed to mozzarella, and I can say that I have never been disappointed. I've also enjoyed their wide array of sandwiches - their gyro is hearty and well done. In addition, the desserts are great - outrageously good baklava. The feel of the place is special, too. It feels a bit like a large diner (bright lights, front counter cashier, family photos, pie kiosk, etc.), along with Greek touches like the wall paintings, flags, etc. It also ideal for accomodating large groups (10-30 people), without overwhelming the place. read more

This is absolute favorite pizza place. If you like feta you will love it on their pizza. I'm am told by the owner that it is so good cause they make their dough fresh every morning. It's more than fresh dough, it's the oils or something but I don't think it's as simple as fresh dough. I love that the owner is always there too. If you ever have an issue with anything you don't go talk to an employee that talks to the manager that then relays your concern on down the line. None of that. I have only has one problem really in all of the yard I have visited Athens Pizza and that is the Greek salad which by the way is awesome. I love this place! I bring so many people here I should get a discount ha! The calzones here are to die for and it's so cheap for the amount you get. I always ask for extra feta in my calzone...soo good! The lasagna is usually what I order, I'd love to try other things but it's so good! The ricotta is really creamy in this dish. The salads are really good too, huge slices of tomato, onions, olives and feta. Oh and definitely get a side of Athens potatoes!! I have been going to Athens Pizza since they first opened - a long time. We like to share an Athens Special, a pizza with a lot of toppings and a tasty crust. At times we order other menu items such as gyro platters; always some to take with us. Today however, the person I paid at the cash register was unable to do simple math. I had not seen her before today. She said, after she finally made correct change for my $100 bill, "Everyone makes mistakes." We believe she was flustered by the line of customers waiting to pay. Whatever happened with counting change back to the customer? The cash register didn't show how much she should have handed me in change ... until I asked her to use a calculator. But go for the food and you won't be disappointed. I just would like to see an inspection score higher than 80. Although I don't remember seeing a kids menu, I have seen kids there with their parents. The people who have waited on us have always been excellent at their jobs. We love Athen's pizza. They have consistently good food. The veggies added on the pizzas are always fresh and well cooked, our favorite is broccoli, spinach, mushrooms and chicken, delicious! This is a neat place, kind of "old school". The owner (lady) is always at the front of the restaurant to say hi. Service is usually good. The food is a bit more Mediterranean/Grecian than Italian but there are several Italian items and pizzas on the menu. The desserts are plentiful and prices reasonable. Sometimes the service is a bit slow but it really depends how busy it is, on a regular night the service is great, busier nights you may have to wait a bit. Once good, now bad... Food: Here's the scoop on Athen's. I have been eating at Athen's for about five years. The food here was once very good and could always be counted on to be fresh, BUT...The past few months the food has gotten really bad. I usually order either their Veggie sandwich with Athen's potatoes, their steak sandwich with athen's potatoes, their Lasagna with sausage added or their spaghetti with extra meat sauce and extra sausage. Their sausage was once spectacular, they once made their sausage several times daily, but in the past few months they have started cooking their sausage the day before (dare I say 'leftovers?) and when I go for dinner (on the next day) the sausage is hard and dried out, it's worse than chewing on leather, seriously. Pasta is usually cooked well and their sauces are nothing special, but they are acceptable. They have started putting so little dressing on their salads that you're basically eating a salad without dressing. Their food has gone from nicely seasoned to bland. Overall I would give their food a 2/5 (Sausage 1/5) Atmosphere: The place is decorated with small flags around the perimeter of the room and they have some decorative things which makes it okay, it's definitely not fine dining, but it's not a dive either. However, the place usually hasn't been cleaned very well, seats and tables are wiped off but there is dirt and dust on window sills, plants (fake) and between the seats and the walls. I would give cleanliness 2/5 Service: Service can range from excellent to horrible. I always request Angelo's zone because he is the best waiter they have, in my opinion. He always gets the orders right, always refills drinks promptly and rarely has a bad day . As far as bad goes, one particular waitress name comes to mind. She has messed up my orders, taken forever to refill drinks, eaten while working (which I think is disgusting and probably a health code violation) and generally has a "I don't give a $h1! attitude." (in my opinion). I would rank general service at 2/5 ( I would give 3/5 except for that one crappy waitress), but I give Angelo a 5/5. Summary: Overall, this place has gone way downhill. The food has gone from acceptable to "I don't want this nasty crap". Their sausage was once the best items on their menu, now it's the worse. Service ranges from excellent (Angelo) to horrible (there's a few other names I could mention). I give them 2/5 because because their food has become nasty and their average service leaves much to be desired. As I 'was' a very frequent customer at Athen's I decided to mention the sausage issue and a few other issues to the 'manager' (some pregnant lady with a russianesque accent) and she simply gave excuses and said there was nothing wrong with the way our food was prepared. My roommate and I simply told her we would not be back because of these issues and she had nothing to say. She charged us full price for the meal and we left. My husband introduced me to Athens Pizza, and we've been coming here for years for truly amazing pizza. When it came time to find a place my elderly mother could go and be comfortable, this became a favorite. We were always greeted nicely, and treated well. I cannot begin to describe how difficult it is to find a place where we would feel comfortable (due to her condition), and that would feel familiar with no pressure. Athens Pizza accommodates families and groups of all ages without blinking an eye. It is very casual, has a large menu, and feels very open and friendly. I should have written a review just for the pizza, and perhaps for how fun it was to watch some World Cup matches there, but I can't let the opportunity go without calling them out for being a truly home-style, happy, accommodating, elder-friendly place. read more

We used to come here all the time when we lived in Decatur, GA. We still go every time we visit Atlanta. I have would have given this restaurant 5 stars with my eyes closed before, but the place is in urgent need of better up-keeping. Luckily, the food is still very good. The pizza is delicious, the house salad great, and the grape leaves my favorite. The pasta dishes are also good. The spinach with feta pie is a must. The eclairs, my favorite dessert, seem to have changed for worse. They seem frozen or maybe are kept too cold.
