Our first time at Atlas (we were a party of 5 adults) and what a wonderful experience. Izzy, the owner, treated us like longtime friends. His humor and service were both excellent and contributed to a great meal. Being our first time, Izzy recommended a family style lunch that included filet mignon, chicken skewers, hummus and eggplant as side dishes, and some other wonderful items. I also had the lentil soup, which was tasty and one of the best I have ever enjoyed. A beautiful surprise was when Izzy brought out what was like a pizza, with the meats,, tomatoes and other items on top. We enjoyed both the crust around the dish, as well as the middle crust which has extra flavors from the meat. The quality of the food was outstanding. Taste, texture,, Flavors, etc. satisfied everyone at the table. Several of us also had their special hot tea, was also a treat. While the menu is not as expansive as some other Mediterranean restaurants, there is enough variety to satisfy most if not all palates. .Also, everything was fresh and made from scratch upon order. Nothing sitting around in pots or pans waiting for customers to place their order, but true freshly made food. We will definitely be back. read more

A family restaurant at the western end of Simi Valley adds an authentic touch to Simi's growing dine-out options. It is Persian food with a Mediterranean touch. The food is prepared fresh after you place your order, therefore allow 20 minutes for the cooking time. The owner takes the order and also serves you. He's very friendly and adds a touch of humor in his interactions with his customers. We had the beef barg ($19.99, flank steak? ), boneless joojeh kabob ($16.99, game hen kabobs), and beef koubudieh ($14.99, ground beef on skewers). Each dish came with aromatic basmati rice and a grilled tomato. We also had an appetizer plate of falafel ($5.99, 4 pieces), and Persian tea. The food was delicious! But, for me, the best part of the meal was the green salad of crisp and fresh, romaine lettuce with cucumber and tomato slices, with the most amazing yoghurt based dressing- very Persian, but also with a uniquely individualized touch! read more

First time here and went with the girlfriend's family on a whim. Food was excellent and staff was super nice/attentive. All meats were so tender and fresh. We enjoyed this Persian restaurant with dishes like lamb shank with rice and cherries and others such as lentil soup and wonderful bread. I ordered the falafel and it was quite different from the Arab style falafel I am used to. All was very good and we went back another time to check out other dishes. We will be back. Walked into Atlas after a few hours of visiting the Regan Library. Immediately we were met with hellos and warm smiles. We were going through the menu and settled on a few plates, then a man who I can only assume was the chef/owner/manager came up to us asked if we were first timers which to that we replied 'yes' and then he let us know he was going to make us something special. They brought out a huge platter of various meats which were all so tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. We were full and satisfied for our hour long drive home. There are 21 countries which border the Mediterranean Sea: Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco. But not Iran, which at its closest, is about 500 miles away. However, the Persian Empire did border the shores of the Mediterranean, but that was over 2,300 years ago. So the word Mediterranean is too broad of a term to describe one type of cuisine, let alone a culture, tradition, language. The food at Atlas is mostly Iranian with a smattering of Eastern Mediterranean known as the Levant. More aptly, if one has to generalize, the food at Atlas is Middle Eastern. 1) Polo Khoresht-e Fesenjan: Chicken stew simmered in pomegranate molasses, ground walnuts, black pepper, turmeric. Atlas' version is light, less sweet, more savory yet more bland. Perhaps more fond de cuisine/broth would provide more satisfying Umami. Didn't notice much use of walnuts which lend a slightly bitter woodiness. Overall, it's a stew that goes well with the light, fluffy, dry, nutty textured Basmati rice which subtly is one of the high points in Persian/Iranian cuisine. 2) Soltani: One Barg kebab of filet mignon which is soft, meaty, light chaw that seems marinated in olive oil, black pepper, maybe a touch of saffron. One Koobideh kebab that is ground beef in a similar marinade. Both are grilled to about medium. Both Fesenjan & Soltani are accompanied by a green salad w/ sweet dressing served first. Then Basmati rice. The Soltani also included a flamed whole tomato. 3) Hummus: Creamy, thick, touch garlicky, lemon juice kissed chickpea purée drizzled w/ olive oil from the Levant. Flat bread, thick, toasted, bit crispy, mildly charred seems to be Iranian Sangak. Persian tea is black tea infused w/ powdered cardamom spice. No Torshi which in Farsi (Persian/Iranian) means sour. Typical would be pickled white beets colored pink by red beet juice. The juicy sourness would have been a nice occasional off set to the heavier meaty flavours. Nice touch is having powdered Somagh at the table whIch is dried Sumac berries and lends a dusky, sour, fruitiness to anything it is sprinkled on. Service is fast, efficient. No attempt to educate or edify in terms of food preparation nor clarification of food terminology. Surroundings are clean, minimal. Only slight negative was how thirsty I became after the meal which indicates over salting. 3+ Yelp stars. read more

I ordered two Beef Koobidehs with a side salad. It was absolutely delicious & filled with yummy flavors and seasoning. Price: Only $12 for what I ordered (no drink ofc). The owner took my order through the phone and he was very kind to me. Location: it is in a huge Shopping Center close to Wood Ranch Community and right next to a Dairy Queen. When entering the middle of the shopping center, make a left on the Albertsons. Parking: it is in a shopping center so the parking is very easy, there are loads of spaces available and it is free. I highly recommend trying this place. Sadly I did not get any photos because I was very hungry and needed to eat my food asap. I will definitely be back and post many photos. read more

I'm in Simi Valley for work and decided to let my friends order for me so I can eat vicariously for them. The friend who made the call for me today decided on Mediterranean, so I chose Atlas. It was a good choice. What's notable about the food is that it's good and freshly-prepared. This was evident in the Soltani kebab meal I ordered, where the filet mignon and the beef kubideh were both incredibly tender and lacked the dryness associated with being refrigerated for long periods of time. I also ordered a Shirazi Salad and was pleased to see that the tomatoes for it were being cut to order, rather than using premade salad or precut cucumbers/tomatoes. Small details like this are noticeable in the food. Also really appreciated the kind service from the staff, such as explanations for my questions about menu items to the aforementioned making salads to order. Would definitely visit again if I get a chance to on this trip. read more

I liked my Lamb Kabob! It was moist, tender, and not gamey! I ate everything... even the rice! We had pretty good service, considering that we had a large group. I like to combine my meats with the shirazi salad to have an acidity to enhance the flavor. I also always add some sumac. The portion of meats could be a little bit more, but the overall amount of food was enough for 2 meals. Price: 6$ kashke, $10 koobideh, $18 ghafgazi and $5 shirazi, total with tax was about $42. I would say its a decent price but a larger portion of meat could have made the price go from 3 to a 4. Service: the people are very nice but, I placed a telephone order. I was told 25 minutes. I arrived 5 minutes early. As expected the order wasn't ready which was fine. But then I had to wait an additional 20 minutes before my order was completed. I could have just walked in and ordered and i would have ended up waiting the same amount of time. Ambiance/decor: It's clean. Nothing really to note, other than it is clean. Nothing really stood out in a positive or negative. Overall: Food was about average. Price was borderline a good deal. If a little bit more meat was added on my meals it would have bumped the price from a 3 to 4 stars. We are diehard fans of Izzy and Atlas! They were closed for a couple of months during the worst of the pandemic but are now open again, both for takeout and indoor dining. We zipped over the hill on a Sunday late afternoon, anxious to get our fix of chicken koobideh and some zereshk polo, and happily found Izzy and his crew hard at work. Wifey squealed from joy as she dug into her Shirazi salad and drank about 8 cups of that fabulous cardamom tea that Izzy's sister makes - this is the real stuff, with real pieces of cardamom in it, not the premade fake cardamom that some other Persian restaurants offer. And of course the zereshk polo was fluffy, sweet-tart, and the koobideh was juicy and good. So much yum and so happy they're back! Highly recommended. read more

On the menu: a lentil soup, a salad, and an entree of our choice. 1. Lentil Soup: heavy tomato base, fresh lentils, delicate spices...excellent fresh taste. [4.5 stars] 2. Salad: romaine lettuce, red cabbage, tomato chunks, fresh dill. Wonderfully fresh, but dressing with way too sweet for me. Still...[4.0 stars] 3. Koobideh Combo: Two skewers, one ground beef and one ground WHITE chicken, totally excellent and some of the best I've ever had. The secret: Izzy grinds his own meat every day.
