Au Cheval absolutely lived up to the hype. We were quoted a 45-minute wait, and it ended up being almost exactly 45 minutes, which gave us time to explore the area. Once our table was ready, we were seated right away. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so seating is limited and it can get crowded, but it honestly adds to the lively atmosphere. From the moment we sat down, our server was amazing. He was incredibly attentive, walked us through the menu, and explained that the "single" cheeseburger is actually a double patty, while the "double" is actually a triple. He also recommended ordering the bone marrow and saving the jam that comes with it to spread on the burger, a little "Au Cheval hack" that many regulars apparently swear by. We tried it, and it made the burger even more flavorful. I also highly recommend adding the fried egg to the burger. It gave it a rich, creamy texture that brought everything together perfectly. Despite being such a simple burger, the quality of the ingredients and the balance of flavors made it one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The service from everyone: the host stand to our server was exceptional. And while I didn't order the wings, several tables around us did, and they looked and smelled incredible. They're definitely on my list for my next visit. I'll absolutely be back.
Au Cheval is likely the most coveted restaurant destination for out-of-towners. "Best Burger" "it's so delicious with the egg" "I'm glad you're ending your trip with Au Cheval". I'd like to throw in my own quote into the gauntlet: "it's ok". It sounds harsh but Our burger patty was noticeably dry. The bread... was also dry. The egg and bacon add-ons were good but as a whole, the burger was missing the core aspect. The bread being dry I can justify by knowing that Au Cheval makes it a point to make everything gluten-free (or so someone told me). I think that's cool but not necessarily what I came looking for. I actually noticed prior to our trip from photos that the buns looked noticeably arid but I gave them no heed because of all of the praise. And I can give them the benefit of the doubt that we were there on a Sunday night, so potentially not the most quality inventory (although I personally don't think that's a great excuse). The service and the ambiance were on point! If you're wondering if there's a required attire (no shorts or flip flops) I wouldn't fret, the atmosphere is a lot more casual despite self-describing as an "intimate" setting. It's definitely more intimate than a normal burger restaurant, with dim lighting and isolated booths but what you're wearing isn't going to dictate how other guests and staff feel. I would cover up anyways just cause there was ac running. I told my friend who moved from Nyc to Chicago and he said he felt the same. And one of our couple friends were surprised to hear the patty being dry, so... off day?
Au Cheval is a rusty diner that serves a good burger. What makes their burgers unique is the peppered bacon: it's hand-cut in-house and is as thick as their burger patties. Their "single" cheeseburger is actually a double cheeseburger, and their "double" cheeseburger is actually a triple -- makes no sense, but that is their naming convention. Bacon is extra. Fried egg is extra. Even fries is extra. I got a "double" cheeseburger + bacon + fries and it ended up being $40, which is a lot for burger and fries (1 star off). I enjoyed my bacon burger, but probably would hit another delicious and heart attack-inducing burger joint next time given the hefty price tag here. Need to save enough money for that cardiac bypass.
Au Cheval lives up to the hype. They only cooked the burger one way and I would say it's probably something along the lines of a medium. The single is actually a double patty burger and a double is actually a triple patty burger I went with the double and added the egg and the bacon, which I understand is the most classic. I was afraid the bacon would be a little tough, but he was absolutely not. He was closer to pork belly and just pulled apart easily. The hashbrowns were a bit salty for my taste, but were perfectly crispy and a little cheesy it seemed. Keylime was very good too. If I were to return, I would do the burger, the same get the Keylime and maybe try a different side. For sure a return.
No good vegan options :( I got the green salad and added avocado (paid extra just for 30% of an avocado) and extra dressing. Overpriced salad for sure. Also the outdoor seating was horrible. No umbrellas so we were melting under the hot sun the whole time. My friends enjoyed the fries but said the burger lacked veggies.
We were heavily recommended this place by a friend and boy it was worth it. We showed up on a Sunday around noon, only had a 45min wait, which was not bad at all compared to our original attempt on Friday night! We were seated near where I could watch the line work, which I appreciated as someone in the food industry. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful, explaining the quirks of the menu as well as his own suggestions for us to try. The burgers themselves were amazing. Easily in my top 5 favorite restaurant style burgers of all time. The tender peppered bacon is the perfect touch for these burgers. If you can withstand the wait, it's truly a wonderful time at Au Cheval.
It's burger time! I was so excited to come experience the Au Cheval burger. I must tell you, I love burgers, but I love big juicy flavorful burgers. The patties here, are very thin. They put a double patty, with the delicious caramelized, bacon and egg. It makes up for the tiny little patties that you experience with your burger. The service is outstanding. I'm gonna tell you, quick and very efficient. I really wanted to like these thin, tiny patties, but I just couldn't. However... I always like me some skin on french fries.
Au Cheval does not need anymore positive reviews and is a classic staple of Chicago, and one of my favorite burgers of all time. You will need to either come off hours for a shorter wait, or be prepared to wait for several hours. It's nice that you can be texted when your table is ready, because there are so many other restaurants and bars you can kill time at before coming back for your beloved burger. A warning that the standard burger already comes with two patties, so if you get an extra patty it is a total of 3. Definitely add the delicious thick cut peppered bacon to the burger (and I am not even usually a bacon person), and the egg if you want a bit of extra goo. We've also tried the fried chicken which was delicious, but if your mind is set on just burger, I'd recommend sticking to that. If you are with a small group that wants a bit of variety and is willing to share burgers, I'd recommend adding the chicken.
Enjoyed lunch here when we touched down in Chicago. The restaurant was quite busy, which is always a good sign. The inside of the restaurant is a bit compact, but super friendly. Great music was playing the entire time, which had me rocking in my seat. Our server was super nice and helpful with the menu. We went for the single cheeseburger and the bologna sandwich. Both were good, but the burger waa wAaay better in my opinion. A must try, and you only need a single. We added bacon, with the egg, Soo good. I took off one star because I think the burger is a bit pricey, and the bologna wasn't all that. Otherwise this place was legit and I'd definitely return.
Au Cheval was solid overall. The burger absolutely lived up to the hype, and the fries and root beer were great as well. I deducted a star because of the service. Our waitress forgot to put in our appetizer order, which is understandable and mistakes happen. After we finished our burgers, she brought us our check. We kindly reminded her that we were still waiting on our chicken to come out. She apologized and said she would bring us an order of chicken to go. She comped the chicken, which I appreciated. However, as tourists, we were looking forward to enjoying the full meal in the restaurant. Since there were several open tables at the time, it felt a little strange to be encouraged toward takeout instead of being able to stay and enjoy the appetizer there. Having to walk to the hotel with the chicken also noticeably affected the quality and overall experience. Overall, the food was great, but the service experience kept it from being a five-star visit.
Really solid burger. Would give the burger a 4.4 out of 5. It can get busy so you can reserve for approx 2.50 a person. Or you can go off peak around 430 and there is a short wait on weekdays. We ordered single cheeseburger, but keep in mind it comes with two patties. The thick cut bacon is an additional 6.99. You can also add a fried egg. We opted not to get the egg as it can get messy. The burger is a hearty, meaty burger especially with the bacon. It is for burger purists who want meat, bread, and cheese. There are a few toppings and sauce inside but it gets overshadowed with each meaty bite. The meat patties are perfectly cooked and the bun is sturdy enough to hold up to the meat and toppings without falling apart. The side pickle is a must have and is included because you will need some acid to cut through the meatiness of the burger. It was worth it because we did not wait very long. However if I had to wait an hour or two i would say come back another time. We did not try the bone marrow which is what seems to be very popular here but given the order of 4 hamburgers and fries we knew it would be too much food for a group of 4. Service was great. Interior was great. My only request is that the music be turned down just a little bit because it is quite loud inside.
One of my students, who was from Chicago, highly recommended Au Cheval to me. He actually recommended it for their cocktails being that it was one of the best places he's had a bourbon drink. After doing my own research I found that it was recognized as having one of the best burgers in America. For that alone I had to try the place. Au Cheval was my first stop after flying into Midway. I knew that the place didn't take reservations, so I gambled with the fact that I was dropping by on a Monday night. No way that the place would be busy. Boy, was I wrong. I arrived around 7:30pm and the place was packed. I put myself on the waitlist and thankfully they add you to an automated system where you get texted when your seat is almost ready. I went to the bar next door thinking I was going to be there for a while, but I really only waited for 15-20 minutes. When I checked in, one of the front desk hostesses kindly offered to hold my luggage for me. They must get that a lot, because they have a whole ticketed coat check system. I had a seat at the bar where service was great and vibes were everything. I was feeling the old school hip hop instrumentals while waiting shortly for my food and drink. My server was friendly and helped to offer modifications that worked to my dietary preferences. I don't eat pork, which I understood was a very popular add-on to the burger, so he suggested I try it with foie gras as the next best thing. I got a single cheeseburger (comes with 2 patties) and added a sunny side egg and foie gras. I thought the burger was delicious. It was so flavorful and well seasoned, and the egg and foie gras gave the burger extra richness. The burger sans add-ons was $30, so it came out to ~$44 with everything. Was it really worth that price? Debatable. That said, I would still recommend this place and want to try their chilaquiles!

This burger was good but not anything special. The cheeseburger was built up to be elite but it was anything but. I've been looking forward to trying this burger and expected a whole lot more. The flavors really don't mend well and the meat is overly salted. I was really disappointed. read more
Prices are absurd but was everything good? Yes. Root beer was so good I'm still dreaming about it! The ice cream was thick and I have no idea what they did to this float but it was the best hands down. Burger was good but Im not too sure if it's the best in the nation. I think their root beer float is on a higher rank than their burger. What makes the burger good is the spread inside the burger. FYI, their single is a double and their double is a triple. The double was ALOT of food. Everything was a la cart. Burger was $16. Fries $8. Root beer float was $10. They get packed, be prepared to wait. Once inside, please do hurry it up. Came here around 5:35 on a Friday with a group of 6. We put our names down, and were seated around 50 minutes later. Plenty of good spots to wait in the neighborhood (lone wolf is bar next door that normally has decent seating options if you want to wait there!). The inside is very cozy. A slight heads up that seating with a group more than 4 can be hard because they mainly have one size of booth. We had 6 in our booth and it was fine, but if you want a bit more space you can ask them to put your group down for two tables. Service both at the door and from everyone in the restaurant was great. Everyone was very kind and helpful! The burger was really good, I got mine with the bacon. A single is 2 patties and a double is 3. We all got the single, and it was the right amount. The fries were just okay to me, I probably prefer something a bit more seasoned. The potatoes also ran a bit sweet which isn't my favorite for a fry. Honestly, my favorite thing we got were the bread and butter pickles. I don't normally love a sweet pickle but these were the perfect amount of freshness. I would definitely order some of them for the table if you go! My group of 3 was seated immediately at 11am on a Saturday. The wait an hour later was for 1-1.5 hours. Food was good, duck fat fries are killer (cheers to animal-based fat). Crispy and subtle flavor. Cheese sauce and aioli add some flavor diversity to the large serving. Burger was very solid, had one as-is and one with fried egg. Expensive and not mind-blowing, unfortunately not best in the nation by a long shot. Delicious nonetheless! Hefty bowl of some very balanced bread and butter pickles for a side helped to cut the heaviness of the burger+fry combo. Simple menu, but definitely more to try for a second visit. Put our name down for a table at about 1124AM, was told it would be a 15 to 30 minute wait, got a text at about 25 minutes later. Cute menu, not a bunch of selections, which made it easy to decide what to eat. Ordered the single cheeseburger (which is actually a double) with bacon , and French fries! Very good flavor the staff was very personable and attentive. Was given this recommendation from a close friend and very glad she recommended it! Our neighbors next to us at the bar were moaning about how great the food was. The vibe was very nice and chill. Will be back when I'm in Chicago again. read more
Definitely worth the hype. We were able to be seated right away at the bar. Split a burger, fries, and pickles. The pickles come with a ton just fyi. The fries and burger stole the show. Au Cheval....I have to say that it lives up to it's hype. My first and only time here and I loved it. There are no reservations! This is important. We put our name in around 5:00pm on a weeknight and the table was ready 15 minutes later. We weren't ready yet so we put our name back in at 5:45pm and that 15 minute wait changed to an hour and a half wait. If you're hungry, put your name in before the dinner rush. If you're not hungry, put your name in and explore the awesome bars and breweries nearby. We were seated at a booth and Kat was our waitress. She was friendly and did a great job. The ambiance in Au Cheval feels old fashioned. It has dim lights, loud music, and a big bar for bar seating. The music was very loud and made it hard to have a conversation. I loved the open kitchen. We ordered the single cheeseburger with the candied bacon, the double cheeseburger with the fried egg and candied bacon, and fries. The single cheeseburger is actually a double cheeseburger because it comes with two patties. The double cheeseburger comes with three patties. These burgers are filling! I only ate half and was very content and full. The food came out within minutes of being ordered and it was hot off the grill. The white cheddar cheese on the burger gives it a creamy flavor. The meat is juicy, the bun is soft, and the combination of flavors is delicious. The fries are simple and great, especially paired with their garlic sauce. I can't think of anything that I would change about the burger and fries because it was that good. Yes, its more expensive, but I was able to get 2 meals out of it so at least its a big serving. The price you pay is worth it. I look forward to the next time I have the opportunity to have a burger and fries from Au Cheval! read more

Grabbed a burger to go since the wait time was so long and decided I would bring it back to hotel for a late night snack. Burger was so good! Perfectly meaty and cheesy and the bun was soft. I get why this place is rated so high. I wish the bar was open seating, but the place is really small so it's all reservations. read more
Everything about this restaurant is high quality - from the service, bathrooms all the way to the food. Highly recommend making this a stop on your Chicago trip and wait if you have to. Luckily, we got a seat at the bar quickly on a Thursday afternoon. The bar seats are nice because it gives you an opportunity to see how they get down in the kitchen. The Crispy Fries with egg is a great shareable dish. It comes with two sauces, and they are both fantastic. The burger is awesome and hits all the flavors you want out of a perfect burger. 10000/10! We dined here on our visit to Chicago and this was one of the best burgers I've ever had! I would make a reservation ahead of time, it's always busy, but worth the wait! I got the single cheeseburger (two patties) with fries and an Arnold Palmer. The fries and aioli sauce are chefs kiss! Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. read more
It's a great burger. Very delicious. Not the best in Chicago, but if there was no wait, it would be definitely be worth it. The thick-cut bacon is what elevates this burger so much. The patties don't stand out in particular. They're the thin kind, but not like a smash burger. Actually, I don't think this burger would be nearly as good without the peppery, sweet bacon. The egg is nice to have, but adding the bacon feels non-negotiable. I usually order the single (which is actually a double) with an egg, bacon, and fries on the side. This meal is quite decadent and always leaves me feeling full from all the grease. There are a lot of fries, so it's better to share them if you have a small appetite. I've tried the spirit-free citrus ritual cocktail before, and it was ok. It's just nice to have a refreshing drink. The line and service are very efficient. Once you sit down, you won't have to wait long. Make plans to wait somewhere else in the West Loop for an hour or two, and the wait won't feel so bad. Just be sure to stay nearby when it's about time to get the text. I don't think the burger is delicious enough for me to endure the wait on my own, but this has been a great spot to bring out of town visitors when there's time to kill. read more

Outrageously overpriced for mediocre fries and burger. $18.95 burger $8.95 for fry bits. not even whole fries and $4.45 for coke. $40 lunch. really? no thanks. Don't waste your time or money much better places in Chicago to have a burger. read more
I thought the food was okay. I know by the time I went they just started to slow down a little bit, but they got my order wrong. Even though they didn't charge me for the bacon I didn't ask for, I had a hard time eating all the grease on my burger. After waiting for 2 hours, I really didn't want to wait again for them to redo the order. So this wasn't the experience I was expecting and the flavors didn't live up to the hype for me unfortunately. read more
I was in Chicago for a work event & stopped into Au Cheval. There was about a 2 hour wait at 7pm on a Sunday - they managed to get us in about an hour & it was well worth the wait. We shared the kale Caesar salad & wings as a starter which were delicious! The wings were perfectly done & the salad was refreshing. I also had the Old Fashion which was perfectly done. The cheeseburger itself was the star of the show - perfectly delicious, with fried egg & bacon for added bonus. I enjoyed every single bite. The restaurant was busy after a football game & had great music playing. Always love the high energy of Au Cheval. The host was very gracious & accommodating. Been here twice and it's so good! Arrived around 2:45 PM on a Sunday and put our names down, got a text to come back around 4:30. There's lots of places to walk around nearby, but you want to come early/on a weekday to minimize wait time. For no wait, you would probably have to arrive right before it opens. We ordered the roasted marrow bones, the fries, and the single cheeseburger with an egg and bacon. The marrow bones with the marmalade is decadent and the aioli that comes with the fries is so good! Definitely have to get a burger, the single comes with two patties and I would recommend adding the bacon! If you're getting other dishes I would split the burger with someone because it's quite heavy, but definitely still worth getting! read more

Burgers were very yummy. Went for my brothers birthday and he got candles in the pickle when they brought out his burger and a candle in his ice cream which he appreciated! The inside of the restaurant had great vibes and good music playing. The service was wonderful. Drinks were also very good! read more

I'm not a big burger fan, but I like their burgers. I do slightly prefer Small Cheval more, however, they're both great. Service has been good all the times I've been there. I like the old school aesthetic they have going on too. read more

Lived here for 5yrs now so it's an obligation to try a Au cheval if your a transplant claiming that Chicagoan card lol. There was no reservation so we had to wait 2hrs for a burger on a Friday night..this is not bad some wait 3-4hrs for a party of 2 or more. We got the bone marrow which was delicious but the world famous burger was good but wasn't mind blowing and not worth the wait on my book. There's too many restaurants around the city that I have way better burgers in my book. I will visit again and maybe the experience or the wait times will be better but for now 4/5. Came with two friends and we all ordered the single cheeseburger & fries to share. We added the egg and bacon to the burger and it was delicious. Definitely on the heavier end with all the meat - to a point that this was our only meal for the day! The thick cut bacon was nicely seasoned and the egg was a nice touch. It was up to par with the burger served at 4 Charles but for a fraction of the cost! The fries were perfectly crispy and paired well with the sauce. I stopped here on a Sunday morning for brunch at 10am because I needed an Au Cheval burger in my life without a wait time. It was amazing as always but the blueberry muffin with the chocolate sauce and jam... WOW! It's nice to have the outdoor dining option when there is beautiful weather outside. Wooo, what a fun experience and one I am glad I was able to experience in my trip to Chicago. We started off with whiskey shots and the dr. devons pickleback. All of us asked for more of that house made pickleback because it was that good. We got the Roasted Bone Marrow, general Jane's honey fried chicken, foie gras, and the double cheeseburger. Do I even have to talk about the bone marrow?! YUM! That honey friend chicken was the chef's kiss. Sticky, juicy, sweet, crunchy chicken. The cheeseburger hit the spot. Perfect amount of meat, cheese and the bun so soft. A few of us also did a luge with the bone marrow which is always a fun way to top off the meal. We ended the meal with malort and a pickle back. How could we not Malort about it. The indoor seating is really nice, so next time id like to sit at the bar. The service was great. Catching up on Yelp reviews as I have visited Au Cheval a few times post-pandemic since my last review in 2017 and I have eaten Au Cheval 6 times in total over the years. Au Cheval has been rated as the best burger in Chicago and one the best burgers in the nation consistently since 2015. They have become notoriously famous over the years and rightfully so. Wait times can be extreme on weekends at 2+ hours easy. When I first had the burger back in 2017, it was definitely the best burger I have ever had and I will not take that away from them. Ambiance is a sleek, upscale diner, and is very compact with limited seating. Post-pandemic, they have expanded to the outdoor patio for more seating during summer. No reservations are taken, but you put your phone number down and they will text you when available. They will hold the table for about 10 minutes. The last two times I went have been different stories. I went on a Friday early afternoon for lunch and at closing on a Thursday night over summer. It was about an hour wait for the Friday afternoon and a 15-minute wait at closing. Both times, we have had parties of 4. I have actually always wanted to try Au Cheval late night due to the extreme wait-times to see how it was. Well I got my wish. All times I have been except for my first time back in 2017 and delivery in 2020, I have ordered the General Jane's Fried Chicken and the Burger. Let's start off with the General Jane's fried chicken, which is amazing as always. It is so flavorful, with an excellent balance of heat, sweetness, and saltiness. The chicken wings are massive and they are very crispy. Definitely one of the best items on their menu if not their best item! Kale Caesar salad was good too (Friday visit). The last two times I have been to Au Cheval, I have gotten the burger of some variant i.e. single (really double), double (really triple), or with/without egg. On the Friday lunch visit, I got a single cheeseburger. On the Thursday night visit at closing, I got a double cheeseburger with egg. The reason I went with the egg is because I thought the burger during my Friday visit was very dry and it needed some more juice. When I had the burger on the Friday visit, I thought it was good, but it definitely wasn't the best I have ever had. The one thing I noticed and you can easily tell by the photo is that the bun was extremely dry (look at the cracks). When you have a bad bun, it sets the tone poorly for the burger since it's the base (like crust for pizza). Toppings were good, but needed a little bit more sauce since the bun was dry. I thought the burger patty was solid with decent flavor, but it wasn't very juicy. What made the Au Cheval Burger great was the patty and simplicity. The toppings did not make the burger, it's all about the beef. Unfortunately my Thursday night visit was way worse. We were bar hopping late night and we were definitely the last table seated before closing. My expectations were low as I figured the staff would want to go home and I have seen the movie Waiting... The burger literally sucked... The bun was dry like last time. The burger was extremely dry and the pics back my point. The egg didn't do much cuz the burger patty was so dry. Toppings and hunger were it's saving grace... Has fame gotten to their heads where the quality is now lacking? Similar to Pequods in Chicago. Possibly. Service was good during the Friday visit and bad during my Thursday visit. During my Thursday visit, the chicken came out fast, and the burger did not. I believe a reason for why the burger was so bad was because they cooked it too early (because they wanted to close) and it sat for a long time while we were finishing the chicken. That makes sense as the staff wants to go home, but that's not an excuse to skimp on quality when customers are paying $25/burger and you are known for the best burger on the planet... I remember when the chefs screwed up an egg, they would throw out the egg because it wasn't up to par and make a new one. I don't think that this was the case here and I expected more. Overall, Au Cheval used to be the best burger in Chicago; however, it is now "bad" for me after my last visit and probably more on a scale of "ok to good" when it isn't before closing (5-8). This was the first bad meal I have had by the Hogsalt Group. The only thing saving a 1 rating is the General Jane's fried chicken is still amazing. If I decide to come back the Bologna Sandwich is on my to-do list. I am a huge fan of the Hogsalt Group as their restaurants are very good (although Small Cheval is also lacking now since expanding). Food is good but not great. Expect to wait for everything. The wait to be seated is around an hour or more even on a weekday. Food took around 30 minutes to come out. The check also took a long time to come as we were sat in the corner. The food isn't bad by any means but it's also not the best meal I've ever had. I had the chilaquiles and my sister had the burger and she said her burger was just okay. We also shared a fry. Finally had the time to stop by and enjoy dinner at this great restaurant. The wait was around 45 minutes, and that didn't bother me because we walked around the neighborhood, which is a very cool area. Once inside, we sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the cooks, put together burgers, fries, and chicken wings. Decor-it's a small place, that really revolves around the kitchen. I can't really remember any other decorative accents or paintings. The windows allowed for an opportunity to people watch as you walk by the restaurant. Service-we like the service, our waitress was great, and the cooks were also very helpful. Food-both our burgers were very very flavorful. The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked, the buns were soft and warm. The wings were a little bit too saucy if you will, but very crunchy and very tender chicken on the inside. Foie Gras Foie Gras Scrambled Eggs I saw someone say that their foie gras scrambled eggs were delicious, so I came here to check in. It was indeed novel, but a little salty for me. The foie gras was very minced and made into a sauce with a vegetable. It was worth trying, but it wasn't amazing. It was just right to eat with the bread with beef bone marrow because the bread was baked very fragrant. - 2Bone Marrow Roasted Beef Bone Marrow This is highly recommended! My friend and I both like it very muchIt's amazing. Although eating too much beef bone marrow is very greasy, but with their secret sauce, which should be burnt onions, it is very refreshing. How about 6+ Stars ?! Definitely in my book. I've read & heard about their burger being voted # 1 in the COUNTRY for years when they first opened. It's still on many Top Lists. Is it all hype? No way. This has to be the best burger I have ever had of all time. First off, Au Cheval is in the West Loop, street parking. Really cool urban vibe interior. Outside tables when weather allows. Inside one long room with booths on the right, the bar ( and grill) on the left, and some tables in he back. Our waiter was super cool, and although he was busy, spent time talking about this infamous burger. There used to be a 2-3 hour wait to get one of these bad boys back when they first opened. Now, maybe 20-30 minutes. On a Thursday around 5, we were seated immediately. FYI, a Single has 2 patties ( which we each had) and a Double has 3 patties. Special sauce, fried onions, sweet pickles, on a brioche bun. I added cheese and am not a pickle fan at all but this burger was simply amazing. Every bite was perfect. The fries were also amazing and one order was perfect for two. AND they are fried in beef tallow!! ( rendered beef fat saved from the grill). The same stuff McDonald's used for decades back when their fries were a lot better. Very small menu options but it's all about the burger here.....and Drinks! They have a top shelf craft cocktail & craft beer list. Some rare beers too. The bourbon espresso martini ( made with Buffalo Trace) was so good, I had two. This is a must try! If you come on the weekend you can expect a wait! The food was simply amazing! The bone marrow is a must try and the burger can be split with someone else! The ambiance is small and cozy I wouldn't recommend coming with a group unless outdoor seating is fine. It's the perfect date night spot. read more

My suggestion, put your name in anticipating a 1-2 hour wait, and then walk around the west Loop. Go to Levian cookies, etc..

Yes. They have French fries and they also have chicken.

Not sure but, our waiter ASKED if we had any allergies to certain foods .

Haymarket is a great option. It's not necessarily quiet but not super loud.

We had a party of 8 and they just had us split up into groups of 4 in the booths. They could probably accommodate 8 at the tables but the wait will be very long

You have to go in person to be put on the list and they page you with two hours usually for seating.

Has the wait time gone down due to COVID? Have they started taking reservations online?
I don’t know. My friend was the one who picked up our order and he called in advance. My only suggestion is to either call in advance or possibly ordering online if you’re doing takeout.
Do they have outdoor seating?
Pre-Covid they did not have outdoor sitting. Now I'm not entirely sure if they've set something up for outdoor seating. I honestly couldn't imagine where they would seat anyone outside as it's in a busy intersection
