Recommend the salmon tartare, I was wary of the dill but it was so well seasoned with some yummy crunchy bits it kind of took me by surprise. Service was also outstanding from every member of the team from the hostess, our waitress, bussers and the manager stopped by to inquire how everything was going. I loved the rich and inviting decor. The restrooms were beautiful and very clean and private. Kind of a cherry on top that kept the entire experience high end. I came here for a friend's birthday. They sat us in a private room. The walls are a light blue velvet and the room had a beautiful chandelier. Service was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and drinks. The burger is amazing and the flank steak as well. Calamari is seared and grilled not breaded. It is a nice healthy twist. Augustine over Sino any day. Actually Augustine is now in the location where Sino was and I love it that much more. We had a birthday party and reserved the patio for about 30mins. Prefixed menu and flowing wine, cannot go wrong. Food was amazing. Every single dish was flavorful and so good. I don't think there were any leftover plates. Service was above par. Every single wait staff we had was attentive, and go out of their way to make each person in the party feel special and taken care of. So many new spots to try in Santa Row, but I think Augustine is one of the better additions. Augustine's menu is fun and unique. We started off with the chicken and caviar and it was a really fun experience that felt like a whole event in itself. The grilled flank with chermoula was a great main dish. I would recommend skipping on the fries as they're just frozen and fried... instead opt for the crispy smashed potatoes, those were a hit! I stopped by their cafe to see what's the hype about. Luckily, there was no line during lunch hour. I ordered the Chicken Avocado Tartine and Iced Tea (unsweetened black tea) for a small balanced meal. It was a nice warm day to sit outside with some shade and beautiful plants. When I took a bite of the Tartine, it was hard like it was refrigerated for hours. I did like the flavors of avocado, dill, cilantro, and the right amount of shredded chicken, but it took me a while to chew the sliced baguette. I wished they would toast the bread first and add the rest by hand before serving rather than take it out of the display case. Then use a fake replica for display. The iced tea was refreshing though. Expect to pay a living wage fee of 4% if you choose to dine in the cafe. I'm not sure why would a high-class restaurant/cafe do that and I'm not a resident of the apartment building upstairs. I even tipped to the barista. It was a pleasant experience to sit outside like a rich European wife for a day. Now I read a bunch of reviews that forewarned of the poor chicken tender quality, but I wanted to judge it for myself. Unfortunately the reviews were correct, as the chicken wasn't even crispy at all. They do provide some additional salt on the side, which the chicken definitely needed because it was tasteless. The chips that the server provided actually paired better with the caviar, so I'd just go with that if you're trying to order something with caviar. As for food, we got the Flatbread and Green Salad to start with - the roasted tomato spread for the Flatbread was so good! For the main, we got the Burger, Salmon, and Clam Cavetelli. My next fave would be the eggplant dish. It is cooked properly even though it's half an eggplant and wasn't sliced smaller. The tomato based sauce is not overpowering the eggplant. You get to appreciate both tastes. To seal the meal, we tried the New York Cheesecake as recommended by our server. It was good. I was nervous to have my 2 kids eat here because it seemed not that kid friendly but they surprised us and ate everything we ordered which really is a compliment to the chef there! My husband ordered the burger, which had a house made bread and also the restaurant group owns spruce (award winning burger spot in sf). The burger was really tasty with a strong mustard presence. Our waiter really sold us on the smashed potatoes. I was going to order fries but he said try these. And boy they were good. I think my 3 yo ate most of the plate! The flatbread pita was really warm and delicious. So was the cavetelli pasta. Both things I was a little worried about the spiciness but it wasn't! My kids also LOVED the prawns. I'm sad it only comes with 4 pieces. Overall our meal was $150 prior to tip so this was on the pricier side but what isn't lately. I really enjoyed the well thought out dishes. We have come here a few times. The restaurant is easy to get too on Santana Row and there's parking in multiple garages et First time we came was when they opened and it was great, we loved the menu and our server and sat on their patio which is gorgeous. Then we came two other times and sat at the bar - don't sit at the bar. It takes up the front inside room and is u shaped the back room has additional more standard seating and the entire exterior is the patio. Additionally there is a bakery/cafe attached we went there for coffees early one am and it was nice and nice to have something open early there. The restaurant is beautiful the food is good but the drink menu has always needed help. That said we sat at the bar and both times service was not great - and between those times we were on the fence of coming here again. I'm super impressed! I'm strictly reviewing their bakery for now. Me and my family enjoyed a variety of pastries while sitting down inside the cafe. They have a nice assortment of pastries and serving fresh brewed coffee from Oakland. This place is bright and clean with lots of light inside the cafe. They also have additional outdoor seating. I'm a huge fan of their chocolate banana bread; it's moist and spongy with a nice chocolaty outer layer. Their salmon on rye toast is also great! The cream with the smoky salmon meat is perfect. We both remarked that it was the best branzino we had ever had. This dish is not to be missed, particularly if you love sea bass. For dessert with went with the opera cake with salted caramel. We wanted to try one of their desserts because we saw servers walk by with a few and they looked incredible. The opera cake was good, but it didn't feel elevated.
