Smog Check Only . . . After having my coupon denied next door at 4LESS Smog Check I took my other coupon for Auto Experts next door and was serviced quickly with no problems. Both had coupons sent in the mail for $29.75 plus the $8.25 certificate. 4Less refused the certificate because I had a 4Runner, not a passenger car. Auto Experts took it without question or fanfare and I was out of there in 30 minutes despite a very busy lot and waiting room. For this experience and this particular service, especially after what happened next door, i gave them a high rating. read more

Ok, so this review is way over due. Decided to surprise my very deserving husband a motorcycle for xmas. He mentioned a week prior that he was at AE checking out the inventory and saw a bike he really wanted. He asked about my thoughts on getting one, of course...I quickly denied and rejected the idea. It was all show as I took the very next day off and drove down to AE to check it out. I was a little afraid as I've never purchased a motorcycle before but I was quickly relieved and comforted by the staff. One of the sales associate Rich remembered my husband and showed me the bike he was interested in and gave me a better deal than I expected. It was painless and easy-DONE DEAL!!!!!!! The next day, I drove my husband there to take a look at the bike he was raving about, acted as if I was against it. After a few minutes of my award winning acting...I was delighted to hand him the key and said " here you go love, its already yours"! He said it was the best xmas gift ever!!! Star-certified smog check was quick and easy mid-day on a Wednesday (after they took 10-15 minutes to finish their lunch, of course). When it was done and I was paying, the guy told me that my front axle is cracked and I should bring it back to him for repair. A cracked axle sounds pretty serious, right? Though my car is older, I hadn't noticed any strange noises or fluid leaking. Additionally, since a smog check takes place on the ground, on rollers (not up on a lift) I'm not sure how he even looked under the car at the axle. Probably just saw a woman coming and thought he could dupe me. Anyway, I took my car to Meineke a few days later for a regularly scheduled oil change and asked them to check the axle - nothing wrong with it at all. Overall ok for a smog check but don't trust any repair advice you might get here. read more

I needed a smog check and was doing my homework by reading some yelp reviews on the best places. The place I decided on was in a familiar location and so I thought there wouldn't be a problem finding it. I got to the place and from what I read in the yelp reviews, people were encouraged to go early as it was first come, first serve. I was anticipating a line of cars but for some reason, I noticed that I was the only one there. The person in the garage was attentive and I explained that I needed a smog check and handed my DMV renewal notice. As I was waiting for him to complete the paper work, I looked next door, about 100 yards away and there was the place I was supposed to go for my smog check! I quickly asked the guy how much it would cost and it was $13 more than the neighbor. Oops, my bad. I told him that I was confused and I intended to go to the place next door. He said he would match their price. Great. It took about 20 minutes and I was out of there. I would recommend this shop for efficiency and no-hassles. It's good to know that price matching still exists. read more

Bought a VW Golf here for a really good price. We took it to an independent mechanic to confirm that it was in good condition. People - ALWAYS do this. If you don't, you're asking for trouble! I have *no* sympathy for someone who feels scammed if they didn't get a car checked out first. It will cost you maybe $75, and could save you thousands. When our checkup revealed that the Golf needed a timing belt and a couple of other small repairs, we were able to get Auto Experts to perform the repairs as part of our purchase price. We had a price in mind, and were armed to the teeth with information from Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book. We knew what price we wanted to pay, and we got it - including the repairs. They were polite and helpful. The reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 - they only had the valet key for our car, so we're now having to buy an expensive key from VW. There's also an issue with the alarm that they tried to fix and couldn't that we suspect is actually a problem with the chip in the key. Not much they could do but buy us a key, and while that would be awesome (and hey, if you're checking I'll give you another star if you want to buy us a key!), it wasn't in our original deal so whatever. Overall, good buying experience. Would buy from again. Don't expect a good deal if you don't do your homework, but that goes for anywhere. read more

Want to update you with information how things goes after buying car. So, after about 1.5 months I started feeling strong vibration on wheel, while driving. Had to go to car service and change pads and rotor. Additional $330. My husband and I have had (continue to have) a terrible experience with these guys. We researched a car, found it at their shop, contacted them and headed to San Mateo to go look at it. We were told that the car had been given an inspection by their mechanics and that the car was in good mechanical shape. We were told that the body had not been lowered that the car was just low. We were told that the previous owner had taken out all the custom stereo parts he had added but the standard stereo that came with the car was back in the car. The car is missing a visor. We were told it would be ordered and sent to us. So far we have found the windshield wiper container is cracked, had to be replaced. The brake fluid had to be drained and replaced. The rack and pinon and tire arms need to be replaced. There is no spare tire. The stock radio was not put back together as they said it was. The car has been lowered. Its been a month and a half and STILL no visor, despite several calls to them. We financed through them. Told them we wanted 4 yrs.... they booked us at 3 yrs and then said they couldn't change it. Very unimpressed. Wish we'd never even gone to them. read more

I was able to drive out to San Mateo today 9/2/17 to finally get my tires rebalanced. I showed up around 12:15pm or so, and it only took about an hour. Getting them rebalanced again was free. I haven't had the chance to see yet how my tires are now but I'm sure they're fine now since they had to balance them twice. read more

Waring, Waring, Waring, Scam Artisits. This place is the worst place to buy a vehicle. I recently bought a Land Roover and just found out that I would have to pay an additional $6000 out of pocket for immediate repairs need on the car. Rod and Nick the owners looked me in the eye and promised me that everything was perfect on the vehicle and assured me that they did a full inspection and test drive. Yet today, a month later, the engine check light turned on and I was forced to take it into the Land Roover Walnut Creek Dealership, and a 23 point inspection turned up the following list of issues of a oil and coolant leak. Front Cover and Oil Pan need replacing and my Gas Filler Neck needs replacing. This place should be put out of business immediately. Save yourself the headache and drive right past this place. read more

Zero stars actually. My dad brought his car there 2 years ago for some work and also decided to get the smog there since it was already there. Everything went fine, car stayed overnight, picked up, paid and all great. Now.. time to smog the car again! This time he took it to another smog place (closer to home) and it didn't pass the visual test because it had a aftermarket part installed (catalytic converter) Our car didn't get any work done in these last 2 years, hasn't been to a mechanic at all so I decide to come back here and ask what exactly was done to my car because I never asked for this part to be removed/ changed/ When I asked the guy he looked so confused, he took a look underneath the car and noticed that yes in fact that part was changed in 2014 (last time.my car was at their shop) he got on the phone with someone, went far away so I can't hear and then came back and said they don't keep records that old, and that their computers were down. Wdf and said to go to the smog referee. (No help) I really think this place switched the catalytic converter and replaced it with another one that was not for my car. They probably used it for one of their cars. Thank you for wasting my time, stealing parts from my car and for the sucky customer service. Don't get your smogs done here and DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR OVERNIGHT. read more

Not your typical sleezy, used car lot! This place was better than certified brand dealerships I have been to! I was quite surprised. I had been shopping for a car for over 4 months and came in expecting someone to attempt to haggle me. I instead met some really great people and negotiaiting was fair and simple. I left with a great deal and the best of the vehicles I had seen. I used in house financing and it is an actual accredited company that reports your info to the bureaus, not some one person loan that you mail your payments to a po box (like my first car loan). I work for Mercedes-Benz and bought a Bimmer from Roderick. My stubborness and negotiation skill is what had kept me shopping around for so long but I was at Auto Experts for under 2 hours! This was about 3 months ago and I am still extremely happy with my 7 series. I will recomment Roderick to anyone looking for a used car. My husband had a coupon for the business at 3925 El Camino, for a smog check and ended up here. They said they would match the price. They failed the car based on the smoke check. The technician promptly said let's do a diagnostic and find out what's wrong. My husband said, "no thanks, I'll take it to my mechanic" as he saw no smoke. Today we went to our mechanic and they could find nothing wrong with the car. We took it to a place that only does smog checks, no repairs, and it passed with flying colors. I would never consider doing business with this establishment. We should request a refund for the smog check, but it's better just to let others know to beware! read more
