Avalanche Brewing. A flight of six on an old ski with a majestic snow capped mountain in the background.

To be honest, my wife and I visited here because Golden Block Brewing, up the road, was closed for renovations. They have a spectacular blackberry Kolsch we always buy a Crowler of when in Silverton. Anyway, I'm glad they were closed, because it gave us a chance to try a new microbrewery. Avalanche Brewing offers flights of six of their beers, delivered to you on an old ski. We sat by the front window and got a great photograph of our flight with a snow capped peak in the background (see attached photo). Our flight consisted of: Alpine Start Coffee Stout 6.5%, Basic Batch Pumpkin Porter 5.5%, Bonita Blonde Ale 5%, White Out Wit 5%, Change of the Saison 6.4%, and Hansel's Hazy IPA 7.2%. They were all quite good, but the White Out Wit , and Hazy IPA were the standouts. They were better than Golden Block's renditions of those styles. We ordered a Crowler of the Wit because it was so good. Overall, I like the Kolsch by Golden Block the best, but Avalanche has more higher quality beers than Golden Block. Glad we stopped in.

We stopped in for lunch after riding the train up from Durango. Service was about what you would expect from a touristy place that doesn't need to build a returning clientele. Slightly off putting and not terribly attentive. The pesto pizza we ordered was pretty good as was the Greek salad. The Thai chicken wrap was awfully mediocre. Lacked flavor and the way it was rolled, one entire half was just greens. Fortunately, there was enough pizza to share.

Drunk was good (purple haze) but my Ceaser chicken wrap was horrid! I think they use a canned chicken seasoned the same for all their chicken wraps. My husband had the pesto chicken wrap and wasn't thrilled.

We stopped here for drinks. Beer was cold. I got a mixed drink that was delicious. Service was great. Prices were comparable with other businesses. We were able to easily sit outside and not be rushed off. Great spot.

Great food, great service and a great location. The highlight for me is the 32oz Backcountry Bombers that are available to drink in, or take out. Took a Sanjuanderer Hells Lager straight to the face and it was delicious!! If you like tasty beer and looking at mountains, this place is for you!

We love a brewery! The beer was great as expected. I particularly enjoyed the Strawberry Rhubarb but we also enjoyed the Mexican, Pilsner, and Oatmeal Stout. I do have one complaint, we didn't have enough to time (or a bed to roll into) to drink more. The food was delicious. We had cauliflower tacos, Neapolitan pizza, al pastor tacos and the Thai salad. They were all scrumptious. I'm so glad my family shares. A big thank you to Corey for her hospitality with a group of 14, you rocked! I want to go back for more eats and drinks as well as to spend time in the town. Silverton is a historic and charming mountain town with beautiful view. Beware the highway is winding with hairpin turns and little to no shoulders.

Came into the Avalanche on our layover from the Durango and Silverton train tour. The place was hopping. We had the shrimp ceviche appetizer and Thai wrap. Both were very good. The tortilla chips with the ceviche were a little hard, but tasted fine. The Thai wrap could use a little more peanut sauce. I had a pint of their Hefeweizen and it was nice and cold. I can't speak to the other food options in town, but the Avalanche is a good spot to check out. Sorry I didn't get any food pics!

Last weekend my friend and I rode the train up to Silverton and had lunch at this place. We decided to split a Greek salad and then share a pizza that was AWESOME!! It was like a caprice salad on a pizza--fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato and balsamic reduction. Omg. I didn't want to get back on the train I ate so much! I just wanted to stay and have another one for dinner. Try it! Excellent service too! Really fast even though they were full.

Decided to try Avalanche Brewing when the other pizza places in area were closed for a Monday. Ordered the Supreme Pizza. Ingredients were fresh and tasted delicious. Also ordered it with a size of dots (doughy bites). These were also delicious. I ordered the Not Hefeweizen and was very impressed with the depth of flavor in the beer. Highly recommend! 4 stars only because it was a little pricey.

We started with the Bavarian pretzel, which was served with beer cheese and mustard. It was delicious and fresh! I then had the southwestern burger, which is always a favorite of mine because of the green chilis. The burgers are always cooked nicely (I order medium) and I was able to substitute a side salad, which was easily one of the best side salads I've ever had at a brewery. We are doing dry January, so no beers this time, but had a lovely hop water that they brew there and even left with a growler full. Highly recommend Steamworks for an authentic Durango experience or if you're just trying to catch a game or hangout with friends. It definitely has fun, local brewery vibes. We will definitely be back!

The location was perfect for us because we were able to easily walk there from our hotel. We were lucky enough to get outdoor seating, which made the experience even better. It was great to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Durango weather, and people watch while having dinner. We decided to do a beer flight so we could sample a variety of their beers before committing to a full pint. It was a great way to try different styles, and we each ended up finding a favorite. Everything we tried was really good. My husband liked their Buffalo wings and whiskey burger, I enjoyed the seared tuna bowl, and our kids liked their pizza. It is definitely a busy and popular spot, especially during peak vacation times, so I would recommend putting your name in early and expecting there could be a wait. In our opinion it was worth it. Steamworks had a great casual vibe that worked well for both families and adults wanting to enjoy a brewery experience. The downtown location adds to the charm, and it definitely felt like one of those must visit spots while in Durango.
