I liked that the Air Boss had a choice of pancakes, French toast, or biscuits and gravy to go with 2 eggs and a protein. Yes I'll take biscuits n gravy. The ingredients was of decent quality. The biscuits were perfect for sopping up the runny yoke from my over easy eggs and the gravy. Bacon was crisp, but not burnt. The coffee hit the spot. I needed that. I think we went to Elixir the night before? Oy. The service was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed the aviation decor too.. Twas a nice breakfast experience. My dad, sister, and I headed to Aviator's for the first time ever this Saturday. We got there at about 10:30 am for a late breakfast. I had bookmarked this restaurant for a couple years. Overview: It's a sit down casual restaurant open early Am- 2pm and serves all day breakfast and lunch. It is Located on the second floor of the Sacramento Municipal Airport (the city's old main airport). There's a disability lift for those who are in a wheelchair and comfortable seating. Restrooms are disabled accessible in the vestibule outside the restaurant. Parking is free in the open lot adjacent to the airport. The restaurant is seat yourself but we waited a bit and got a great table by the windows so we could watch planes coming and going. The atmosphere is retro cool and airplane themed. Huge arched picture windows in the main dining area bring the outside in. Definitely a perfect place to bring the kids especially if they like planes. There's also an observation deck by the runway where kids and parents can watch planes up close. The food: our waitress was very kind and got us hot coffee and ice water quickly. We ordered our food but unfortunately there was a pretty big wait for it to arrive. I didn't time it but was over 30 minutes. My 86 year old Dad was hungry so I actually had to ask for some crackers to tide him over until the food arrived. To be fair the waitress was serving what seemed to be the whole room plus busing tables; the place which was packed when we got there, and I think there was only one chef. They were simply understaffed and we were told the restaurant had been closed for two weeks prior and lots of people wanted to eat there today. When the food arrived it was hot, delicious, and perfectly prepared. I tried a bit of everything and I would give it a 9 out of 10 food wise. Very classic breakfast food but well prepared with quality ingredients- the eggs were fresh (not from a carton), and the hash browns were not frozen- fresh russet potatoes. Sausage was perfectly cooked. The bacon I sampled was peppered, thick cut and delicious. My dad's biscuit and gravy was excellent, as was my sister's pancakes. My dad and sister had the 55 plus senior aviator meal for $10 apiece. The coffee was strong and hot and came with refills. My meal was only $13. Other than the wait for the food, this was a great meal and setting, and we will definitely be back to try lunch next time. Come here for the nostalgic diner feel and fun airplane theme, and the views of the airplanes coming in and out of the runway. If you've got a kid who loves planes, this is the place! But honestly you can just walk out to the outdoor tables and enjoy the planes there without having to eat at the actual restaurant too. Menu prices are lower in comparison to other breakfast places but the options are pretty limited. I'm just glad they had a kids menu! I was shocked that it was already a packed restaurant and we got there 30 min after opening. We got one of the last tables. Then when we left, there was a line out the door of people waiting to get seated! It took about 20 minutes to get our food, and then we ordered a pancake which took another 20 minutes and arrived when we finally just asked for the check. Seemed like they had only 1 or 2 servers for the whole restaurant so just make sure you bring things for your kids to do while they wait for planes to fly by! Despite the pretty small menu, I did enjoy my Aviator plate which was basically a deconstructed Denver omelette. My eggs were cooked perfectly which is always a good sign. We were here for end-of-year party for one of the local high school golf teams. Place is already decorated for Christmas. Food was served buffet style with teriyaki chicken and rice as one option, plus good 'ol pasta and meat sauce as another option. They also had sautéed Italian squash which was perfectly cooked. Everything was good. Went back for second helpings on the pasta and squash. Service was great. They had two events booked for evening, but Karen took care of us very well. This is a great place for breakfast and brunch. Today attended a luncheon at Aviator's, which is a great place for private events, from wedding/baby showers, birthday, retirement and reunions. Today's selection for our lunch buffet was green salad, grilled vegetables, pasta, roast beef, grilled chicken, fried rice, mashed potatoes and rolls. The 3 of us had, club sandwich with onion rings . Sandwich was good but the onion rings didn't get cooked enough... still firm onions. The 2 egg with delicious bacon & pancake was very tasty...biscuits & gravy with eggs & bacon was good other than the biscuit was a little bit over cooked or over microwaved not sure what the issue was. Just recently attended a retirement party for a coworker here. We had something like 80 people in attendance. The restaurant facilities accommodated our group nicely. We had 2 different entrees, salad bar, and some very nicely prepared asparagus spears. The tender roast beef and the creamy chicken tip with fettuccini noodles tasted very good. I love the aviation-centered decor. It felt very comfortable and cozy here. Aviator's offers a lot more for large group gathers than a lot of other options around. Many of those other meeting spaces are boxy and sterile-feeling. This restaurant. has a lot of "cozy quotient" going on. read more

I've had a couple trips to Aviators since my original review, so time to update. First the ambiance will never change! It's a divey diner with airplane motif (of course) that is retro without trying to be retro. The view of the airstrip is fun (although airplane traffic was slow on our most recent visit), but what brings people in, is the affordable breakfast/lunch menu. If you can still get a good meal with good portions for under $20, you're winning! We brought a newbie friend because we were talking about (the closed) Harry's loco moco and remembered that Aviator's serves one of the best in town! You won't find it on the menu, but they have it. We arrived around 11am on Sunday and the dining room was full. We waited about 10 minutes and were seated at a table with a view in the main dining room. There is a room without a view, if you're not interested in natural light or planes, and never a wait. Our server didn't seem the most welcoming at first, but she did her job, just with a little attitude from possibly being overworked or short-staffed. I get it. She took our order of 3 loco mocos and came back a few minutes later saying they were out of hamburger meat/patties. NOOOOOO! She offered I could still get fried rice and add Spam or Chinese sausage to it. I added Spam thinking it was a side of Spam, but it ended up being bits of Spam added to the fried rice. That was fine. Their fried rice is bomb and it's a huge plate! I was very satisfied with my fried rice, 2 eggs, and several cups of strong coffee. My husband loved his steak and eggs with potatoes. He said the steak was as good as Cattlemens! It was juicy and tender and cooked medium-well, how he ordered it. Not quite Cattlemens to me, but for $18, it was good quality and a great deal. The biscuits were soft and not dry at all. Pancake was fluffy. Overall, a very good breakfast and a bargain these (inflated pricing) days. Don't sleep on Aviators. Great place to bring kids and your out-of-town peeps for some real life retro vibes. read more

Great spot for some classic breakfast. This place is in the executive airport and is a staple in this neighborhood, so iykuk. The place is usually busy, especially on weekends, but I never had to wait. The service is nice and friendly, there are only 2 servers so they work really hard and do a good job. They have a straightforward menu but the one thing I recommend are the pancakes. These are delicious and could be the best in town and are a must. The omelets, skillets, and steak and eggs are all worth the price as this place is pretty reasonable. The pro tip that is not on the menu is the loco moco. You can get this hawaiian breakfast served with eggs, upgrade to fried rice, gravy, and a thick hamburger patty, which is delicious. This meal is a real treat! If you are looking for lunch options, my go-to is the burger as they use the same patty in the loco moco, and its pretty big. With great options, everything I have had has been very satisfying. So one of my friends told me to come here and support the owner if I could. I guess a few months ago he was going to lose his lease and hundreds of people came out to support him and the lease was renewed. This restaurant is inside the Executive Airport. It is like a museum of aviation. It has large model airplanes hanging from their ceilings. So nice looking and different. I took my buddy who was a pilot who said that this used to be a Red Baron steak house and it was the bomb in the 70's. Been through a few owners and the current one has been here for a long time. The place had a lot of people in it for breakfast time. It seems to be a meeting place for a lot of Asians. There was a men's group hanging out in the middle when I visited. They have a small seniors menu so I guess it's a good deal too. I got the meat lovers omelet and a waffle. the bacon was over cooked for me and was kind of hard. The waffle was good. The food is just ok. I don't think it's anything really mind blowing. Just decent. As for the ambiance they have that going for them. Who doesn't like watching planes at an airport. Be that it's a slow airport the view is nice. The model airplanes are really cook to see. They have a cockpit hanging over the salad bar. Pretty cool. For 2025, we've decided to visit one local diner/breakfast spot a month. Aviator's was our first stop, in January. We stopped in on a Sunday morning. Service was quick. The downsides were that we never got a coffee refill, and there really aren't many choices if you don't eat meat. It sure is fun to sit and watch the planes, though. read more

They open at 7 AM and I call at nine, and there is nobody that answers the phone. Two weeks ago I drove by during their opening hours and it was not open. Somebody told me that it'll be open tomorrow. I called the next day at 11 AM and no answer. Apparently, she has been convinced I was gossiping about her. I can only surmise that my meddling cousin Miles, whose resume consists primarily of napping and opportunism, has slandered me to his own benefit. That he is now gallivanting around town arm-in-arm with Granny, while I, her loyal grandson, go allowance-less, is circumstantial evidence enough. Now, while I myself am merely between opportunities, I also happen to have substantial crypto holdings which, pending a modest global financial correction, are likely to launch me into the uppermost echelons of Sacramento society. Nevertheless, this temporary cash-flow pause has required me to become what no true Nobleman should ever be: resourceful. Enter: Aviators Restaurant, an establishment recommended by a fellow Land Park Nobleman who has also experienced what we call momentary liquidity issues. "They accommodate both a modest purse and an immodest appetite," he declared. That was good enough for me. I departed the marble sidewalks of Land Park and journeyed, with some apprehension, through Hollywood Park--the Hollywood of the middle class--until I arrived at the Sacramento Executive Airport. There, inside the modest terminal, was Aviators. Let me say, the place has charm. Dated? Certainly. But pristine. The decor, complete with dangling planes and panoramic windows revealing actual Cessna comings and goings, gave the experience the aura of an old amusement park eatery--minus the sticky booths and feral children. Opening the menu, I braced myself. But instead of being assaulted by gentrified pricing (à la Meet & Eat), I was greeted with the benevolence of bygone days. I ordered the "Air Boss Special"--two eggs, bacon, and biscuits & gravy--for a princely sum of $13. And I had a real waitress, not some QR-coded ghost. She was attentive, kind, and in possession of that rarest quality in modern dining: warmth. The food? Delicious. Real. Hearty. I found myself pondering how capitalism in Sacramento had run so thoroughly amok when this humble gem could feed me more generously, more authentically, and with greater dignity than establishments twice the price. The lunch menu--attached for your convenience--looks equally promising. I foresee a second visit. Possibly a third. Possibly a regular table. I walked out with a full belly and a toothpick in hand, gazing skyward as a small plane lifted into the air. For a brief moment, I understood what true independence felt like--not from Granny (though that is now being explored)--but from the illusion that Nobility requires excess. So if your belt must be tightened metaphorically, but your stomach insists on expansion, take your appetite to Aviators. Aviator's is unique; it is essentially located in the control tower of the Sacramento Executive Airport. The decor is from another era and the numerous floor to ceiling windows allow you to watch the small planes come and go on the tarmac. Like breakfast, lunch is a good deal. I settled on the "Exclusive," which resembled a Philly Cheesesteak. It came with a side and I chose onion rings. The sandwich was very good,and so were the onion rings, although a bit greasy. My son had the Aviator's burger and enjoyed it as well. Service was prompt and friendly, quick with drink refills and to ask if we needed anything else.
