The rating is solely for the food. It is delicious, seasoned to my liking and oh so flavorful. Just don't expect to receive friendly service. The cashier was very kurt, but not rude. He was more on the dismissive type which I didn't pay any mind too. There are plenty of tables and even a pitcher of water in each table, but I didn't trust to drink from it. It's quite thoughtful to have water in each table, but personally I don't know how long it has been there or who has touched it and I just wouldn't trust to drink it. Most of the food were labeled, but the chicken I got wasn't. It was, however, delicious and I hope that they will have it again. It was spicy, tender, and juicy. Also, the rice and beans were delish. I do have to add that the containers were too high for me. It was located on the top shelf and I had a difficult time grabbing one of the to go containers. I am 5'1 and I had to ask someone to get me one. Also, the space is a bit cramp. It is hard to get around and the space should really be for just 1 person at a time each lane. Come in, get the food into a plate or container, pay for it and then find a seat. Some tables have a pitcher of water on them. FYI; There's a single bathroom available in the back. Fed the bf who has a crazy appetite + me, for $26. The run rate of the buffet is $7.99/lb. Whole fish is $10. I really wanted to get the lamb shank, but it was nowhere to be found around early dinner time. I did notice a lot if rice options and chicken variety. The bf and I tried a number of them, but i have to say I was only impressed by the okra sauce (there're chunks of meat)and broken rice. The jerk chickens flavor and spice is heaped onto the skin, and the sauce wasn't what I expected. Many of the dishes are kind of salty and oily. Nothing is mind-blowing, but nothing was bad. I went into this location because I was in the area and heard they had a pretty good West African buffet. I was famished because I didn't eat all day and decided to check it out. The pros, they had fonio which is a lovely grain. I saw it a little too later after I already filled my plate. They have various rices, jolofff, white, Spinach, rice and beans, etc. The chicken was very good as was the potato leaf stew. I added that on top of the rice. All of the food is fresh tasting and authentic. I also saw egusi, light soup and Okra stew. The Okra stew was not to my liking as it was prepared differently than I am accustomed. They have plantain, pounded yam and mixed yam and plantain fufu. I also saw rice balls. The cons are it has high foot traffic and there isn't a sanitizing station set up like other buffets, where you sanitize your hands with hand sanitizer and put on plastic gloves. I will definitely visit again because they really have my fav fonio and I can add it with one of the various stews. Had a $12-$15 plate twice, once at lunch and once at dinner. The dinner selection was much broader, with a variety of meats. At 11:30am on a weekday, there were few items out for lunch. Maybe I came too early? Carbs are in the form of rice, beans, and plantains. Sauces range from tomato-y to very spicy -- there are definitely strong flavor profiles, which is nice. I don't recommend the jerk chicken -- a little dry, not to flavorful. On the other hand, the curries, especially the pork hock / knuckle, and the fish curry, and delicious and satisfying. read more

First of all I will say that the restaurant is set up like a take out/quick dine in place and if you are looking for some sort of special ambiance this is not the place for that. It seems to be set up for take out or eat at your table. You walk in and pick a container. Once you fill the container with items that you want, pay by the pound. Prices are very reasonable. I grabbed the jerk chicken legs (get two) I picked rice and peas and a few other veggies. Okra, spicy chick peas, and so many choices of meat or veggies. OMG this is a diamond in the rough type place. It is not fancy by any means. The food is soo flavourful. If you like spicy food you MUST check this out. B&B was absolutely amazing! The food was so flavorful and delicious, I'd recommend it to anyone. I got the curry and jerk chicken, two flavors I'm familiar with and it didn't let down. I never can resist going in here if I am nearby this place. It is my go to for dishes that my Sierre Leonean mother in law used to make. I usually buy enough to take home and eat during the week. This is an easy place to walk right past, but don't do it. You'll be missing out on amazing food! I didn't even know this place existed until I saw my friend's review on this place. The food is set up buffet style and you pay per pound. I didn't know half of what I was eating, but everything was delicious. From what I remembered eating: * Jerk Chicken - On the spicy side, but very tender * Fufu - I've never had anything like this before. It was tasteless, but I really liked the gelatinous and gooey texture. It goes great with the sauces and rice. * Senegalese Cabbage and Fish - I think this was Thiebou Djeun (or something similar to it), which I had once before and really wanted to try it again. Glad I could eat it again here. * Oxtail - Stewed in a tomato based sauce. Get it because oxtail is delicious. * Cassava Leaf Sauce and Potato Leaf Sauce - Don't miss out on trying this. A nice man sitting at a table recommended I should get some. The leaves are stewed until it's sauce-like. It's a little bit like laing, but without the shrimp paste flavor. * Banana Pudding - I first tried banana pudding in North Carolina and I haven't found any good banana pudding in the tri-state area until now. I would come back just to get a container of the banana pudding. The interior is a bit bare bones, but they have a lot of tables and chairs to sit at. Oh, man. Diving in here to seek shelter from yesterday's Nor'easter (whatever that is), and get some hearty food in my body after fasting for a blood test, was the best idea ever. This hilariously named takeout buffet is totally nondescript and keeps the snooty Mid-towners at bay. Cabbies, sundry Africans, and perhaps Haitians and other Caribbeans--all dudes--congregate here to get the news, chat and hang out, and, oh, yeah, eat some awesome food. I could only recognize about 50% of the dishes. There were many meats on the bone that I eschewed due to my laziness, but I did get to sample some really awesome morsels (nearly 2 pounds, worth, at $5.99/lb): liver (yes!), curried chicken, and other meats, beans, stewed spinach other stewed vegetables. I was a kid in a candy store. There was even a kind of rice (or maybe hot cereal grain) that I can't immediately identify but used to love when I was younger. I was easily the only white guy/non-francophone in the whole place, and that was totally fine by me. It's clean but minimal seating, and you eat with plastic utensils out of foam takeout containers. It's a place for a good, inexpensive, healthy meal. There's a salad bar, and a wide variety of hot foods like mac & cheese, Jamaican peas & rice, "broken rice" (African, similar to couscous), and chicken about 4 different ways: curried, stewed, roasted, and a wonderfully spicy Jamaican jerk style. Also fish and lots of vegetables, and a Senegalese "peanut butter sauce" that I wish I'd taken more of. It's halal, so there's no pork or alcohol, but I can live without them for a while. This place is good. The food is, for the most part, fresh. And the best part is it's really, really inexpensive. Food this good really should cost much more. But the joint suffers from the same issues as other mom-and-pop's in that there's no one there to explain anything and it can be confusing and even a little intimidating eating things that you don't really understand (you, not me- I actually don't care ;). That said, just try the different rices and vegetables like others mention. Get one of the several types of chicken (the jerk chicken stands out). Try the beef. Hell, try the goat if you're feeling horny (get it?)... It's open all the time so plenty of opportunity for all if you're in the area. I couldn't find price signs anywhere. I'm not exactly too sure what African food consists of, but I can say that I'm quite pleased! Walking around, looking at the different types of meat and mush (couldn't tell what half the stuff was but ate it anyway), I was highly intrigued. I picked up a little bit of a few things and they were all good - especially this one vegetable mush that I have no what it was. Jerk chicken was tender, flavorful, and well-seasoned. Vegetable options are quite good as well. Hole in the wall eatery in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan isn't much to look at on the inside. The food? Well that more than makes up for the shoddy interior. The food here is a great mix of Western African and Caribbean dishes. Grab a styrofoam plate, mix and match what ever looks interesting to you and go up to the counter and pay by the pound. The dishes aren't clearly labeled but what I had was a curry chicken, jerk chicken and a dish with a peanut sauce with jollof rice and it was all delicious. The selection is vast so it'll be a challenge to figure out what you want. The staff were welcoming and prices are really cheap making this an amazing spot to come try some exotic dishes. Absolutely loved the food, again, interior seriously needs a face lift but I still highly recommend trying this place. read more

Flavorful. Delicious. Best of all, it's a great cheap, on-the-go spot for lunch or dinner. I'm not an expert on West African by any means but whatever it is, B&B made it flavorful. I hope I'm not offending anyone but it reminds me of Caribbean or Indian food, not the creamy type but the curry goat/vindaloo type. I wanted to dab a little here and there until I saw the whole lamb shank for only $7!!! Even though the lamb shank weighed in at 1.3lbs when he put in on the scale to cover it, they only charge a flat rate of $7. The lamb was tender, fall off the bone, delicious. Such a steal! I also saw whole fried fish, which looked like either tilapia or porgy for a flat rate of $10. Had about half of the hot item side (there's also a cold buffet) and I'm planning to come as much as I can to try everything else.
