Chicken Buns
Willy M.

We were visiting Bainbridge Island for the day and while in town going to parks, walking around, retail etc, we worked up an appetite for lunch. Among a few other spots, Ba Sa was on our hit list to check out, so we came by for lunch. Its a nice looking modern Vietnamese restaurant with a fusion-y spin on Viet food. We didn't know what to order so we looked at a bunch of photos to see what looked good. We started off with the Chicken Buns. It was really good karage chicken bao buns, very flavorful, nicely prepared and the mayo was tasty! We really enjoyed this to start off our meal. As for our entrees, we got: Bun Cha Hanoi: Good amount of meats, I really liked this, comes with 2 pork patties, 2 grilled pork skewers, an egg roll, noodles to dip in the nuoc cham sauce with lettuce to make some wraps. I went to town on this! Sautee Beef Vermicelli: I got some bites to this dish as well, beef was plenty, quite flavorful stir fried beef, good marinade on the beef, comes with vermicelli noodles with some assorted veggies and crispy bits on top. A good non soup beef noodle dish! We came at a good time, we got seated pretty quickly, friendly staff, it is on the pricier side but we enjoyed the food a lot. The place got busier when we were leaving. Worth coming by to check out if you in the neighborhood!

Vietnamese Pasta Stir Fry w/ Beef

Came here after a day trip in Bainbridge and it hit the spot! The food was very flavorful and filling. The pasta was my favorite as the short ribs were tender and tasty! The truffle wontons were juicy and had a good amount of filling. The prawns on the chili oil prawn noodles were really crispy, and the hot honey glazed ribs were yummy but not as tender as it could be. Overall excellent viet fusion food!! Service was a little slow for a non-busy night. We found ourselves finishing one dish and having to wait a bit for another dish to come out.

We just moved to the Island and we love it here. Added a photo of my son enjoying a bowl bigger than his head for emphasis Z

I love this place. Heck, I took a ferry over just to eat there. Sat at the counter because it was filled up but it was so good. It's a nice setting and the service was great.

We had to wait an hour for a table but let me just say it was sooo worth the wait! Great service and AMAZING food. We had spring rolls to start and they were yummy. My bestie got pho and I got beef vermicelli. It's the best we have EVER had. So if ever in Seattle, take the ferry to Bainbridge Island and check this place out. Get on the waitlist beforehand to avoid a long wait!

Ba Sa? Yes-sa!!! So I did have to wait at least 1 hr to get seated, which was stressful esp when you are hungry but this is where my group wanted to dine. Located on Bainbridge Island, just a quick ferry ride over, the restaurant is cute! I tried a few items including the wontons, chili shrimp noodle dish, and the corn ribs. The shrimp noodle dish is a must and corn ribs, although simple was delicious. I also enjoyed the hard cider, if you like drinks on the sweet side. Although the wait was less than ideal, the food and service was enough for me to return if I'm in Seattle again.

Haven't been here in a while, but I brought my family this time and they are fans! Everything was just as good as my last visit, though I personally wasn't a big fan of the Bun Cha Hanoi. Fortunately, the other dishes more than made up for it, so this spot is still a 5/5 for me. We sat inside since the patio couldn't accommodate our group of seven. FOOD Chili Prawn Noodles - 5/5 Packed with flavor, and the prawns were lightly battered and fried to a perfect crisp. The kids loved this one. Spicy Truffle Wontons - 5/5 So good we ordered two plates. Corn Ribs - 4/5 A tasty appetizer. Truffle JoJos - 4/5 Potato wedges served with a green garlic aioli sauce. Bun Cha Hanoi - 3.5/5 Not my personal favorite, though a few family members enjoyed it. This place is just a quick ferry ride away, perfect for grabbing lunch or dinner and strolling around afterward. It does get busy since it's a smaller restaurant, but we've been lucky to get seated right away. Can't wait to come back!

This small place on Bainbridge Island brings very flavorful dishes and cocktails to Winslow and we can't get over the beautiful setting and the tree! They just refurbished the lovely patio too. We have been here many times and our favorites are: Spicy Truffle Wanton: unbelievably savory shrimp and pork dumplings. Do not pass this up. Dry Aged Ribeye Pho: this very delicious beef pho comes with a savory donut!! Passion fruit lemon drop cocktail

Parking is plenty and easy to find. The interior is decorated nicely. There's a good amount of seating for small to medium sized groups. Dry aged ribeye beef pho (4/5): the meat pieces were pretty big. Almost too big to be honest but the flavor was good from the broth. There was also a good kick overall. Not too mild nor too spicy. Tap to pay is accepted. Service took some time, especially the pho. Overall Ba Sa is a good restaurant. Food is yummy but takes a while and service could use improvement. However, the ambiance and staff were nice.

Great food with a fresh spin on Vietnamese classics. We did a day trip from Seattle to Bainbridge, and after walking around town we ended up grabbing dinner at Ba Sa. Location is convenient as it was right in the midst of all the other restaurants and shops in the main area, and walking distance to the ferry terminal. We tried the bao bun appetizer that was filled with tasty karaage chicken and had the pho. The beef in the pho was very flavorful and the broth was delicious as well. I also like how they did not skimp on the beef. Overall good food in a quaint atmosphere, I only wish the line and the wait for a table was not as long. But it was a weekend night after all.

What an incredible restaurant!! I was seeing Ba Sa all over my Tiktok page and I knew I just had to go, right up my alley! We stopped in for a snack and some drinks since we were going elsewhere for dinner. We loved the chicken buns and the wontons, they hit the spot! The drinks were also INCREDIBLE, I love a good cocktail. I got the white silk and omg delicious. Their patio is also dog friendly so this place gets 10 stars in my book!

I found myself back on Bainbridge Island visiting family and this was my second time at Ba Sa. In my opinion, it may be one the best restaurants on the island. They were busy on a Friday night and our server was really kind. He was attentive despite the business. Ba Sa isn't a huge restaurant; however, the inside is cozy and offers a high-end feel. They offer outdoor seating as well, but I recommend sitting inside. The food always hits. Delicious, perfectly flavored and fresh. We got the Chicken Karaage Bao Buns and I could've eaten these for my meal alone. The chicken was juicy and the cabbage and pickled onions offered a nice zest. The pho was rich and perfect for a cold night, the beef was tender and the broth was very tasty. The prawns and noodles are always a good go-to. Again, excellent flavor and the bok choy on the side offers a fresh taste. If you're looking for a good Asian fusion restaurant, check out Ba Sa!

The garlic greens (half and half green beans and broccoli) with our (off menu) protein add on: Chicken. $31
Michelle M.

Ba Sa offers upscale Vietnamese dining on Bainbridge. It has indoor and outdoor seating. At almost 2pm on a late September Sunday, the wait time was only about 5 minutes. That said, they offer a reservation waitlist bookable on Yelp. What we ordered: 1. Garlic green veggies. Mom was looking for a gluten-limited item. They can make this completely gluten free, but the chicken she wanted added was marinated in a sauce with trace amounts of gluten. She also got half green beans, half broccoli. It also comes with a side of rice. Though the base price is $19 without protein, and most protein add ons were $8, adding chicken (unlisted) took it to $31. On the plus side, it had a very complex and delicious sauce... definitely a fish sauce and something sweet (unsure if hoisin, oyster or if they merely added brown sugar). 2. Broth and noodles in oxtail broth. I wanted some basic broth without all the proteins, and this did it for me! I have to say when it first came, the noodles on the top tasted fairly bland. I should have let it sit for an extra three to five minutes to soak in more broth. The broth was very flavorful, star anise prominent and maybe the slightest hint of cinnamon. 3. Jasmine tea. Came served in a proper cast iron pot, which I loved. These people clearly understand tea done the right way. (And I did not taste remnants of coffee, so there's no cross mixing of drinking vessels.) They had these little fly fans to help for those eating outdoors on the patio. Food containers to go were the basic brown boxes. I wished they had given us a bag to take the leftovers... For that $31/dish pricing, I expected a little more.

But don't let its lack of visibility be the reason you don't go there. It is well worth a visit! The restaurant is in a cozy little space. It is run by Thuy (the owner) and her competent and friendly staff. They have great Pho, both traditional broth, as well as chicken and vegetarian broths. We really appreciated the latter since many pho places do not offer one or both of the latter. I order the chicken pho and my girlfriend the tofu and veggie. Both were delicious and filling, and they provided plenty of additional ingredients to put into our pho, as is typical of pho places. The pho was served in metal bowls, with clean chopsticks, spoons and forks provided at the table. At one point Thuy herself came out to chat with us, which was an added bonus. She was so helpful answering our questions about the food, and even gave us a much-needed lesson on how to pronounce her name when we asked. (If you say it with a falling tone you will definitely impress her. :) ) I added Thuy's to my small but grown list of favorite places on the Island.

I could probably have licked my plate clean on every meal that I have ever had there. Generally, there has always been excellent customer service, and all the things that you would expect from a great restaurant. However, a couple of days ago I had a really bad experience. I live pretty far away, and there are thai restaurants closer to my home. Sawatdy restaurant is a twenty mile drive in one direction from my home. Yet, I will patronize it every now and again to bring business to her restaurant and because its been my favorite. I don't think I'll be going back. This post is not to discourage anyone from going. The food is generally amazing. And again, the service is top notch. I drove all the way to the restaurant a couple of days ago and ordered three things. The stuffed wings, a pad Thai dish, and drunken noodles. The bill was $75 and some change. The food portions were amazingly large, which is always good when you get your money's worth. From the order, the chicken wings were exceptional. They were outstanding very delicious as they have always been. However, the two main dishes, one for myself and one for my sister were absolutely disastrously bad. They both were like they had been either cooked earlier in the day, and left out for too long, or overcooked. On both of our dishes, the meat was really bad and the food was dry. In my nearly twenty years of going to the restaurant, it's never been like that ever. We couldn't eat them. And both of us can eat just about anything! I called and because the owner knows me, we had a great conversation about me coming back to the restaurant and getting the two dishes made again. Knowing that I live twenty miles in one direction away, it was gonna take me a few days to go back. Maybe even a week or so. We had an agreement that I was counting on to get the two dishes redone, but not the stuffed chicken, of course. When I called today saying that I was going to drive back for the two dishes I was told that they would only replace one. I had two dishes that were severely overcooked or dried out, or old. One dish, the chicken wings were delicious.I didn't want to refund. And I was told they would only replace one. So I went back and I got the one dish, which was the drunken noodles. And it was absolutely up to par.It was outstanding as it should have been the first time. Fresh meat fresh noodles fresh everything! I've included a picture. I'm disappointed though, because i've always been a patron of the restaurant who's never complained about their food. I've always elevated the food to my friends and colleagues and I've even brought people to that restaurant in the past. Getting one dish replaced when two dishes were bad does not sit very well with me. So I will go to the restaurants near me in Poulsbo and Silverdale instead. And we'll forget about and say farewell, to what was my favorite Thai restaurant in Kitsap County. Yep it's the principle of the thing. Paying nearly a hundred dollars for the two meals to be terrible. Explaining that they were knowing that i've never done that before or had that experience in twenty years, and to be only provided with one dish as a replacement is just not okay. Now we will close this by saying that was my only bad experience in twenty years. And I know everyone loves that restaurant. And I do recommend that you patronize it. My backing out, and choosing to take it off my list is a thing of principles.

I hesitate to recommend Sawatdy Thai. I placed my order online, but I ended up waiting about an…read morehour for my meal. The food was decent, but the service could definitely use improvement.
