I always think of the Bay Area as having amazing asian food, but after moving back to South Bay, I have still never found a better place for quick and easy bibambap as Bab Cafe. It is categorically perfect. The beef is delicious and the toppings are amazing. There is a choice of sauces that all pair with the bowls amazingly. The stone bowl offered a new texture in the rice. And all of this for an extremely reasonable price. You get to sit in a wonderfully clean restaurant and enjoy a nice warm cup of miso with the bowl. Bab Café is awesome. read more

BAB also means punching bag?! Well than...welcome to the Punching Bag Cafe. BC has been a welcome addition to come across here in Downtown! My first time just happened to be on a monthly #meatlessmonday. So tofu bibim-BAB it is with extra kimchi and with comes with a nice cup of miso soup. It was delicious. Lots of flava and filling. Gojuchang sauce in the self serve pump was gojutastic!!!! Pump it up! There's plenty here. The interior is modern and well thought out. Seating arrangement is great for groups. If your sensitive to MSG. Just know their kimchi, japchae and certain sauces do carry MSG. I'll definitely back with my carnivorous eating ways next time. We hadn't ever been here before and needed time to peruse the menu, when we were ready to order, the attentive staff were there to take it. Bab cafe is VERY affordable, healthy food in Reno, something we're in desperate need of. Both the "Top Bab" and the "Classic Bab" are great, with the former being served with cauliflower, broccoli, and baby carrots (almost certainly pre-cut and delivered to them in bags, but whatever) and the latter containing a variety of pickled, shaved vegetables. If you're looking to go easy on the salt, go for the Top Bab option. The Bulgogi (beef) is of a pretty low quality, and it shows - the flavor is a bit overpowered by some sort of powdered spice blend, and the texture and flavor of the beef itself isn't all that pleasant. Fortunately, the Dak-Galbi (teriyaki chicken) is tender, delicious, and much more mild in flavor. I used to order the beef bowls just because the price is so good, and the bowls can often be stretched into two meals, but since I've tried the chicken I haven't ever gone back to the beef. Is Bab Cafe "fast food?" Yeah, pretty much. If they're not busy, your bowl will be ready in about two minutes, because all they have to do back in the kitchen is assemble it, really. But at under $12 per bowl, their meals are filling, and if you eat your veggies, they can be pretty healthy as well! If you're looking to cut down on sodium, order the chicken, go for the "Top bab" option with the steamed veggies, and try it without the sauce before you decide to add any. It's so hard to see companies so effected by the Covid-19. They only off take away, UberEats, Grubhub etc., the food was incredibly delicious, hot and made in less then 10 mins. I've now been here at least 5 times. It's some of the best quick and healthy food you can get in Reno. The bab bowls are flavorful and packed full of treats! Chicken wings are still some of the best I've had in Reno. A few times I've gotten it delivered, and it's still just as good even an hour later. Bab Cafe is located near a corner on a one way street in downtown Reno. Because of the location, it was such a convenience for us. Our hotel was literally across the street from this place! We have been staying in Reno for 5 days and were missing comforting food. We decided to make a stop to Bab Cafe for a meal. The girl working in the front was really patient and nice. She didn't rush us and asked us if we had any questions, to just ask. Ordering process is very easy. Go up to the counter and choose your plate and protein. We ordered 2 classics (bulgogi/pork) and 1 top bab (bulgogi). The top-bab even came with potstickers, which is my sister's favorite. All the bowls do come with a cup of miso. The chicken japchae was really flavorful. The chicken wings were good as well. The portion is huge when you consider all the veggies. I have to say, although for some others, the rice portion may be small, the bowl was so filling that we couldn't even finish it! The price for everything, plus 3 drinks came out to roughly a little over 60$ after tax. Had to order take out too. I've missed eating vegetables and Bab Cafe really satisfied the cravings for a healthy meal. There is one thing I am confused about. The 12 piece wings and the Korean Style Wings. We had ordered take out for these, both deep fried, and when we got back to our hotel, they were practically the same type of flavored chicken. Maybe I didn't look closely to the description or maybe I misunderstood the girl working in the front. Extra wings? I'll still take it. I came into Bab for a yelp event and I was not disappointed! The decor is nice and clean. They also have a community board where people can post events of flyers. I think it's awesome when local spots support other local organizations. I also appreciate that they advocate for reducing plastic waste and provide information for how customers can reduce waste during their dinner. The food was great and the portions were huge! My friend and I split the meal and it was more than enough for both of us! We got the classic bowl with beef and upgraded to a hotpot (as we were told the hotpot is the traditional way to eat this meal). With a side of miso soup and glass noodles. More than one year later things have only gone up from Bab Cafe. They recently opened a second location in South Reno at the Summit. And now you can order and have food delivered to you. The location in downtown is a great if i'm near the university or heading home. There is also a parking lot off to the side of the building that makes going to Bab even more convenient. And it is staffed by an amazing crew! As for the food, you can't go wrong with anything off their menu. The bowls will fill you up and keep you full. My go to option is ordering the beef. Once you get your bowl don't forget the sauces and mix everything up before starting! The most recent time I went here I did notice that they have a few specials such as Happy Hour (M-F). read more

I have visited this location since inception and never had anything negative to say. Today, while 6 months pregnant and riddled with food restrictions, I received the worst service I've ever witnessed for myself or someone else. My historical order was a classic with tofu. I had to adjust that due to food aversions throughout pregnancy to remove the sauce swirled on the tofu and the japchae noodles. Upon visiting today, the menu had been updated and japchae is no longer included in the Classic (win!). I was told the noodles were replaced with bean sprouts, and I assumed (shame on me) the vegetables were still served both cold and unseasoned. I requested no sauce on top as before. I was served the "new" classic which included a couple unexpected revisions - sauce on the spinach and sauce on the bean sprouts. I'm unable to eat the sauce that was added to the vegetables. Upon noticing, before even bringing the food to mine and my husband's table, I asked what they were, informed the lady I wouldn't be able to eat them, and I requested they be removed. She handed my bowl to the gentleman in the kitchen who scooped them out and handed it back. I informed her the residue would be enough to trigger my bodies innate reaction to too much seasoning and requested it be remade. She again handed the bowl to the gentleman who shifted the remaining veggies in the same bowl to cover the gap where the removed ones had been; it was again handed back to me. Now, being pregnant and emotional, I lacked the capacity to say anything further. I threw my food away and told my husband I needed to leave (emotional breakdown in front of strangers isn't my jam). I went there because I knew I could eat their food in a time when I have extremely limited options. A menu change, poor communication, and a childish attitude from the kitchen means I won't be returning anytime soon, if at all. If you're management or owner, I'd love to talk to you. Bab Café is such a hip and trendy fast food Korean Bibimbap restaurant! I always come here for a quick bite that'll fill me up.  This café is located on 3rd street near the new dog park downtown.  It is pretty simple, you order your dish, and choose your sauces.  They have 3 types of bibimbap, a classic, fresh, and top bab.  The classic definitely has the most variety with carrot, cucumber, egg, zucchini, radish, and spinach.  The fresh has spinach and lettuce, and the top bab has cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots.  They also have choice of meats, like beef bulgogi, spicy pork, chicken, or tofu.  I always get the spicy pork classic bowl, and they all come with a cup of miso soup to complete the meal.  In my opinion, the best part is picking the sauces.  They have Korean spicy, teriyaki, and spicy mayo.  It usually takes two pumps of sauce to make the bowl taste great.  Each bowl is around 11 bucks, which is pretty decent for a complete meal. They also offer loyalty punch cards, and they hold specials too! For example, last year they offered free bowls for first responders after the tragic incident that happened in Vegas.  This place is great, and if Downtown is too far for you, they opened a second location in South Reno! read more

The food is very simple. I ordered something like a bi bim bap with bulgogi as the protein, my girlfriend ordered it with tofu. I was starting to regret my choice as we ordered and it became clear this was not coming out in a hot stone bowl crisping the rice, but I did not miss it at all... it was great. I eat Korean food frequently... this was a light and healthy version with great all the flavors you would expect. We walked to this place from our hotel in Reno on our way back from Tahoe - I was hoping it was a franchise as I do not get to Reno much and I really liked it. I don't understand why they have a high rating. Their food is extremely plain. All the high rating must've like plain food only. There's no seasoning on the vegetables and meat. Great new addition to the downtown food scene. It's basically a rice bowl topped with the pork, beef, etc., veg and Korean spices. Bibimbap (/bibmbæp/ BEE-bim-bap, from Korean bibimbap [pi.bim.pap]), sometimes anglicized as bi bim bap or bi bim bop, is a Korean dish. The word literally means "mixed rice". Bibimbap is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with namul (sautéed and seasoned vegetables) and gochujang (chili pepper paste), soy sauce, or doenjang (a fermented soybean paste). A raw or fried egg and sliced meat (usually beef) are common additions. The hot dish is stirred together thoroughly just before eating. It's an OCD eaters nightmare. All the ingridents are served in one bowl and you're supposed to mix it together. Check out the video playing on a loops for instructions. They now have sizzling pots for purchase. So the theory is get your bowl and pour it into your sizzling pot. Eat it! Take pot home. Clean pot. Bring it back on you next visit. I have never been to its physical location, but I did try them out through uber eats. It is so convenient that it is offered then. I do walk by the location in downtown, and have wondered what type of food was available there. I got the classic bulgogi bibim-bap, which was delicious! Even though I am not a big fan, it came with miso soup. The dish was so colorful and vegetables were nicely laid out. It can be modified to your preferences, but I stuck to the original dish they have. I've been to South Korea, so I've tasted their authentic cuisine. I even ate bibim-bap for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on planes. Bab Cafe bowls taste close to the authentic Korean bibim-bap! I was pretty surprised by this place! The bowls were a very large portion size for the price ($8.99 for the base plus $2.50 for the meat). I got a bulgogi Top-Bab, which came with steamed broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. I opted for the brown rice ($1 extra) and added egg (25 cents). The bulgogi was better than I expected it to be, especially when mixed with the sauces they have by the food pick-up area. The spicy mayo and sweet & spicy sauces were both good and had a good kick to them. When I got my food, I wasn't expecting to get the two gyoza (maybe I missed them on the menu) - but wow they were tasty! If I ever come here again, I'll have to get the gyoza appetizer. The miso soup was also quite good, and I drank all of it even though it was 93 degrees outside. By the way, I would suggest just drinking the soup as if it were a hot drink rather than trying to spoon it out with the provided spork. The restaurant was very new-feeling, hip, and clean. There was plenty of seating for both large parties and one-person parties. The service was wonderful and the line to order was quick! We really enjoy coming in here! The ingredients always look and taste fresh. There is a good amount of flavor in their bowls, and if you want more flavor, they have a few different sauces that you can add. They also offer a gluten free option of sauces, just ask for them. I enjoy the hot sauce that they keep behind the counter, careful though, while it has good flavor, it is very hot! The employees are always friendly and helpful. The young lady working tonight, helped me bag up my food, soups and sauces, and even opened the door for me as I was leaving.
