I have enjoyed KBBQ provided by Ijji 4 and Siu, but haven't found a restaurant specializing in bibimbap until my lovely run in with Bab Cafe. I had a hard time finding this restaurant at first as Google Maps is confused on how to get there. It is located down 3rd Street off of West St. If you hit Arlington, you've gone too far, so keep your eyes peeled for their black sign. Even though it took me 20 minutes to find the location, I'm glad that I didn't give up looking for them because Bab Cafe is truly a jewel. I ordered the #4 (Classic tofu bibimbap), which had fried tofu, cooked spinach, zucchini, egg slices, cucumber and carrots on top of either brown or white rice. I put the gochugang sauce all over the top. It says it is a spicy sauce, but it's more tangy and sweet than spicy. Even though it was a huge portion, I ate the entire bowl clean. It was just too good to have left overs. It also comes with a side of miso soup. I love how fresh everything tasted. Its one the main things I love about this place. My first time at the Bab Café today and I was very impressed. The location is downtown but somehow in a quiet area. I was craving some sort of Asian bowl for lunch and I ended up here. The lady working the front was very helpful in guiding me through the different options on the menu. I ended up getting the teriyaki-style chicken with fresh veggies and my girlfriend got the same but with sautéed veggies. Both were served on a bed of rice and with a few different sauces on the side. You mix everything all up together to get the perfect bite each time. We were both very happy with our food and the portions were big but not overwhelming. They also give you a cup of miso soup on the side which is pretty gangster. You really can't get anything like this anywhere nearby so big props to them for bringing this style of cuisine to our neighborhood. Prices for bowls range from $10-$12 which isn't the cheapest but won't break the bank. Super easy to park right outside. Metered parking so make sure you have a couple quarters. On the recommendation of a fellow Yelper a friend and I went to Bab Cafe for lunch. It is clean, modern, and the staff is super friendly. I ordered the #3 which was Korean Style Teriyaki Chicken Bibimbab or Dak-Galbi Bibim-Bab. It had cucumber, radish, spinach, egg, and spinach all over rice served with teriyaki chicken on top. Served on the side is a miso soup. There is a video showing that you mix mix mix it up and drink the soup on the side. I thought that was great so we knew how to eat it. When they called our number to pick up the tray they made sure we knew there were sauces on the side that add flavor and went over them with us. I would say they are the best I have ever experienced at making sure that first timers know what they are doing and are well informed. The food was excellent. Had a great flavor that was sweet as well as spicy and incredibly fresh. The chicken was tender perfectly cooked and delicious. I will definitely go back again! read more

They took an order over the phone, had it ready when I requested, and waited patiently when my friend was late picking it up at closing. Prices were fair also. My 3 stars is for the food, which admittedly suffered from take out. I'm a big fan of bibimbap, coming from the bay area where traditional Korean is easy to find. This dish is all about texture and spices and I found both a little lacking. We ordered the traditional bulgogi and the teryaki chicken. The front cashier greeted me as soon as we came in, and once we told her it's our first time, she completely broke down the menu and explained the foods on their menu. Let me start off by saying I've had this on my list of places to try for months now but for some reason never ended up here. I got the classic bibimbap with teriyaki chicken, but I upgraded to the dolsot stone hot pot. My boyfriend got the extra protein bowl with the bulgogi beef. Both came with miso soup. I added a little spicy sauce and let the stone pot do its thing (I always let mine sit for ultimate crispness). I honestly have never had a bibimbap this good before in my life. My boyfriends never had one before this at all and he LOVED it. He told me, repeatedly, that he could eat there everyday. Honestly, so could I. Everything was so fresh and delicious. My bibimbap was perfect. The chicken was tender, and not overbearing, as teriyaki can be sometimes. It went perfectly with the spicy sauce and all the veggies. My new favorite restaurant in Reno! The staff was very friendly, greeting us as soon as we walked in the door then walking us through the menu so we understood how things worked. The menu offers three varieties of Bim Bap- one with sautéed veggies, one with steamed veggies and one with raw veggies. I selected the steamed veggies with teriyaki chicken, my partner selected the spicy pork with and raw veggies. Both were amazing!! The portions were generous but could be made larger for a small fee (we found need to up size). The bowls came with a variety of veggies (differing by order) and perfectly seasoned meats atop rice. For the bowls they offer a variety of sauces, some with spice for an extra kick, some more mild for folks like me! Each meal came with a cup of the best miso I have had in ages! The miso was so delicious and comforting that I'm confident that it could heal you from the inside out. They also had a variety of other delights on the menu such as radish kimchi and Korean fried rice that I can't wait to check out next time. On a whim, 2 friends and I decided to head here for dinner. I had seen reviews on Yelp but never looked at the menu! When we got there the menu seemed simple enough. Yelp offered 50% off the japchae (glass noodles) appetizer. My friends ordered the wing appetizer so now it was entree time. Several of the meats stated they were "hot" or "spicy." I opted away from those and headed straight for the classic beef. It was $11.99 for the bowl. I added teriyaki sauce to it because it was the most mellow sauce of all the options. They have a soda fountain so I went for the $1.99 soda. When they rang me up they forgot the 50% Yelp discount. When I called their attention to it, they went ahead and threw in an order of potstickers for free to cover what would have been discounted. Ordering wasn't easy and the cashier seemed distracted but I thought that may be due to walking us newbies through the process. Nope. I think it was because they were just distracted and not ready for customer service. We got our food slowly and steadily but not at once. Then they forgot the appetizers again. It was odd. The food was ok and the portion size was nice. I got through the bowl and realized that there was a huge amount of rice left at the bottom. So the portion of non-rice ingredients was decent but not plentiful. The rice portion however was ample. Bummer is that I didn't want a bowl of rice. Honestly it was so difficult to find a good Asian restaurant in Reno until Bab Cafe opened up. Whenever I want Asian food, my go-to place is Bab Cafe. Food: 5/5 Their food is amazing and very authentic. I love all of the food there, but my favorite is the Bulgolgi fresh bowl which is about $11.99. Most of the bowls are around that price, with a few exceptions. Every bowl also comes with miso soup. I also LOVE their kimchi. It's about $1.19 for a side dish of kimchi or they sell it in a mason jar for $20 with I believe a $10 refill. All of their appetizers are also amazing, but I highly recommend trying their chicken wings. It sounds weird to try chicken wings at an Asian restaurant, but I promise you won't regret it!
