After having a craving for seafood and a restaurant with outdoor seating while I was doing business nearby, my iPhone's trusty Yelp application led me here. Once I arrived, I could see that on the outdoor seating front, this restaurant was definitely going to fit the bill as the outdoor deck looked cozy and inviting, with many tables and chairs with plenty of exposure to the clear skies. While the outdoor seating area was nearly full with many happy customers enjoying various seafood dishes, I was seated immediately by a friendly and courteous hostess. I perused the menu and the fish specials, which consisted of cod, salmon, flounder, tilapia, and shrimp immediately caught my eye. Once my friendly and polite waitress, who was middle-aged and had blonde hair but whose name I do not recall came over, I asked her which of the fish dishes she would recommend, and she said that while she liked all of them, that she would go with the salmon or cod. I decided to go with Blackened Cod, which involved pan-frying it and adding spices to it along with a side of mixed vegetables as well as a Diet Coke to drink. While I was waiting for my entree, I enjoyed basking in the sun on the outdoor deck as well as listening to the background music, which consisted of standards like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Queen. My food came out about fifteen minutes later and I enjoyed, as I found the healthy portion of Cod to be moist, flakey, and pleasantly spicy thanks to the cajun spices that it was dusted with. In addition, the mixed vegetables, which consisted of sweet and savory zucchini, crisp broccoli, and sweet pieces of carrots only added to my meal. In addition to the delicious food, I found the service to be excellent, as my waitress was friendly, attentive, and efficient. When I was finished with my meal, I found that the meal was reasonable for $18 in change, as the quality was high and the portion size was ample. I never leave reviews but I feel obligated to share my experience at Babylon Fish & Clam. Stopped here a couple weeks ago on a Sunday evening after a trip to Robert Moses. There appeared to be equally as many staff members as customers in the restaurant, yet somehow the service was possibly the slowest that I've ever received in the U.S. Lobster rolls were listed as a dinner special, however when we ordered them (the waitress failed to tell us they were not available when she handed us the menus) they claimed not to have any even though it was only 6 PM and there were plenty of other lobster dishes available (i.e., they had the ingredients, but somehow could not produce a lobster roll). The waitress brought the wrong cocktail out to the only person who ordered a cocktail. The prices were absurd considering the low-quality food, service, and atmosphere (it's near the water, but there is absolutely no view outside, and the inside is filled with closely spaced, wobbly tables). I ended up paying $16 for a "taco salad" (having to make a quick decision when I found out the lobster rolls were not available) which consisted of shredded lettuce, grated cheese, diced tomatoes, and a tiny cup of guacamole. Most entrees on the menu were $25-35 and by the looks of the entrees that other guests at my table ordered, they were not worth half of that. When we paid the bill with multiple credit cards (writing the exact dollar amount to be charged to each) the waitress very rudely told us that it would have been much easier if we had asked for individual checks, then proceeded to take 10 minutes to run our credit cards. I left still hungry, $20 poorer (again - would have been much more had I not ordered the cheapest dish), and regretful that I could never get that 90 minutes of my life back (yes, 90 minutes even though we were seated immediately). Will never go here again unless it changes ownership and undergoes a complete transformation. read more

Where do I start this place SUCKS I don't have any clue how anyone can put a good review up on this place must all be related to owner it was past disgusting. How are they still are open is beyond me. Let me begin by saying way over price on crap. We order steamers me and my wife they bring out a plate with maybe 15 on them and no melted butter for $18 dollars way too much for that as we waited for our soup and salad we were busy fighting off flies all around us mind you we are inside. then comes the soup New England clam what can i say bland and watery, Now the salad that put me over the edge i kid you not it looked two days it was all dry and wilted the cucumber was so dry we actual laughed. This business should be ashamed to server food you will indeed get someone sick. read more

Tonight I had the pleasure of eating dinner in this restaurant. We were three adults and a six-year-old. We had an appetizer of fried calamari. It was very good and the portion was enough for our party. Three of us had spicy shrimp and a large salads. The other person had salmon and his six-year-old daughter from the child's menu of fried shrimp and fries. We all thought our food was delicious. For dessert some of us had cheesecake and somebody had blueberry crumb tart. The waiter had a birthday candle put on the cheesecake which was a very nice touch. He also put on a happy birthday song throughout the restaurant. Even if the food wasn't delicious I would go back. The staff was great. They didn't know what to do for us first. They took very good care of the six-year-old and she was treated like a mini adult. I have been in five star restaurants where the service sucked. I would give the service five stars. read more

I visited Babylon Fish & Clam for the first time with my cousin last night. Before we got there, we called to make sure they had seating being we have never been there before. The hostess said the dining room was full but she might have one table for the two of us. Upon our arrival, there were more empty tables in the dining room than there were people sitting at tables. So we had a laugh over that. We were greated and seated with a smiley hostess which is always nice and note worthy. Then, our adventure started. As soon as we sat down, our waitress came over to us and asked us what we would like to drink. My cousin asked her what their house white wine was and the waitresses reponse was, "I don't know, I have three jobs. I don't even know where I am right now". We were in shock and disbelief that this waitress had said this to us. None the less, she went to the bar tender to ask him while we discussed this amongst ourselves at the table. She returned with a response and then began to tell us how she was very jealous that she could not drink any of the beverages we selected. She walked away and we looked at each other in horror. We thought, "OMG is this happening right now?". It gets better. She then came back to the table with our drinks and told us how she almost took sips of our drinks because they look amazingly delicious and she said this about 5 times. Basically, this waitress was a wreck. She has no business serving people and something like this has never happened to me. I've had better service at McDonalds. I must say though, my cocktail (Extreme Punch) was amazing. It was a decadent mix of flavour and it was the best part of my meal. I had two. For an appetizer, we ordered the chopped baked clams and the fried calamari. HORRIBLE. The calamari looked like Costco bought frozen and fried calamari and it tasted like that as well. It was terrible in so many ways I can't even begin to describe. The worst of the worst were the clams. They smelled disgusting. Literally, the smell was horrendeous. We squeezed some lemon on them to give them a whirl and the taste was as bad as the smell. They even looked disgusting, as if they were made 4 weeks ago and stored in the fridge and then reheated. They were NO where close to fresh. How can you call yourself "Babylon Fish & Clam" and your fish and clams are no fresh or good? We were baffled by this. Then, we had our salad which was as good as a salad can be. The balsamic dressing was good. For dinner, my cousin had the Tilapia special and I had linguini and clam sauce. We were both unimpressed with our meals. My cousins dish looked like it was heated up in the microwave and my clam sauce was just...not good. We didn't even have dessert because we just wanted to get out and thank goodness because when we got the bill we couldn't believe our eyes. It was so over priced. I patron very expensive resataurants on a regular basis and I don't mind paying good money for good food and a good dining experience. Paying $150 for food I wouldn't even feed my dog...I'm not ok with that. Overall, the cocktail I had was amazing. I wrote down the ingridients and I'll be sure to make my own Extreme Punch at home because after my experience at Babylon Fish & Clam, I will NEVER step foot in that dive again. read more

Honestly, we went in thinking it has potential. My husband & I both agreed our daughter's kids meal was way better than either of our dishes. I was not able to consume my Lobster Roll wrap- it was lobster salad- there was no lump lobster- chopped to a paste. Gross. My husband ordered the Blackened Swordfish & Mako- very dry. First time he didn't finish his plate. Our daughter had the Broiled Flounder with French Fries. We finished it! Terrible. Had lunch for 2 and spent $44 on crap - soup, sandwich, soda. Seafood bisque was ok but the crab cake sandwich and fried shrimp sandwich were boring, heavy, and tasteless. I agree with the others - great place to eat on a sunny afternoon. The food (blackened swordfish, cod stuffed with crabmeat, onion rings (the thick kind, none of those bullcrap straw things)) was cooked nicely and portions were ample. Service was attentive (sitting out on the deck on such a nice day certainly helps, as the waitstaff was happy to be out as well). Pretty good food and a great place to eat when you find your stuck in the same dinner routine and decide to take a drive down to Babylon. I'm told the fish is excellent although I don't usually eat cooked fish. I had a lobster roll that was very good (and pricey although that's not unusual). The atmosphere of being close to the water makes this a fun place to eat in the summer time (as their menu points out though they are open year-round). read more

STAY AWAY! I brought some friends here and am mortified... The food was completely inedible. They both got cod sandwiches - the cod looked and tasted like it came out of a frozen dinner box at the grocery store. The manager claimed it was fresh but there is no way it was, the cod was perfectly breaded all the way around in the way frozen fish sticks are, and was served on soggy wonder bread. I had shrimp scampi, which was $30 for tasteless, overlooked pasta and 6 small pieces of shrimp. We also had clam soup which was, again, tasteless, and only had 1-2 overly chewy pieces of clam in it. DO NOT COME HERE. The most expensive meal I've had in a long time and by far the worst meal I've ever eaten anywhere. read more

Fast food at high end restaurant prices. A lobster roll small amount @23.00 really. A crabcake on a bun that was the size of a dime on a silver dollar. The waitress was too bust yacking on the phone so she gets a 2 on a scale of 10. $35.00 for a $20.00 lunch. I used to love this place. I would get the lobster roll and that would make up for the rest of the meal. However they have now eliminated the lobster roll and shortened the menu. I tried a three seafood pasta Alfredo dish. It looked like soup had three shrimp and scallops you had to put eye glasses on to see. The funny thing is they used cooked shrimp out of a package and then cooked everything so the shrimp were like rubber. My girlfriend got the seafood combo broiled which came with one piece of frozen flounder, frozen bay scallops and already cooked shrimp that was again reheated. All in all this place has lost its way. The owner runs around intimidating his staff, which seems to be new every season, and has cut cost by purchasing packaged seafood. The place looks busy from the outside bc everyone sits on the deck, the entire interior is like a ghost town. Will not attend again. read more

Dissatisfied- felt ripped off. 6 broiled shrimp and bowl of french fries for $26.00 I ordered a baked potatoe and before they came out with the food, the waitress came over and said they ran out of potatoes and I could have fries or veg. The waitress came out with a dinner plate with 6 medium size shrimp on a white dinner plate, not even on a piece of lettuce. The small bowel had about 20 french fries. First time in the area between Christmas and New Years. Driving around looking for a place to eat and stumbled on this restaurant. Spectacular meal and service was great! Would definitely go back. Coconut shrimp was great and the red snapper stuffed with crab meat was one of the best seafood meals we've had in a while. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I swear on all that is holy the seafood bisque is the most amazing thing I've ever eaten in my life,if I could pick one thing to eat for the rest of my life it would be the seafood bisque from Babylon fish and clam. Most places I go to you're not even sure what you're eating because there are no large pieces of seafood just pureed mystery seafood, Franz the chef and owner uses top notch ingredients, in every spoonful you're getting a large piece of lobster or whole shrimp. Trust me nothing compares if you're ever in Babylon it is well worth the trip down to the marina A+ !!!!! read more

A couple staff just kept staring at us and as soon as I went to take my last bite they rushed up on the table and grabbed my plate. Was very annoying. Made a special trip to Babylon Fish & Clam after reading the reviews here. Took the kids and my dad after a gorgeous day at Robert Moses. The food was blah. Got the fried clam strips and am not certain they actually contained clams. It was just like eating the extra breading that falls off in a a box of KFC. The marinated grilled shimp appetizer was poorly cooked and "marinated" in what tasted like straight soy sauce. My son had shrimp scampi - a plate with 5 so-so shrimp and a couple of pieces of vegetables that were oversteamed and clearly an afterthought. The tartar sauce was essentially mayonnaise. Also be careful of getting refills on your drinks - we were charged for every glass of iced tea!!! I mean, really, how nickel and dime can you get? So we wound up spending over $75 for some food that was a huge let down, with outdoor seating that had a nice view of the road and the boat storage joint across the street. Never again. Been eating here for many many years and just like the reviews my opinion is the same very mixed. On some occasions the place is pretty good on others pretty disapointing. Went this weekend on a nice warm evening. The setting is great outdoors near the Babylon dock. Cool outdoor deck seating is awesome, it's chill come as you are and nice place to eat on a warm summer night. The food quality is touch and go. The manhattan chowder is always top shelf. The seafood briquette was poor.. The clams on the half shell were fresh and tasty. Shrimp cocktail was somewhat fresh but slightly disapointing. I had the shrimp parm. The shrip were okay the sauce and pastsa was excellent. Sometimes I have found the fried items over done and salty. All and all the place is okay. I return more for the location and atmosphere as opposed for the food which is acceptable not great. As an aside I always find the service fine. Another tip if you like visiting this place go to restaurant .com and purchase a voucher there for some additional savings. read more
