The Irvine Spectrum just gained another gem! I usually go to the location in Newport Beach so having this one nearby is good but also so dangerous lol. They have some great flavors, but the crema Torino, caramello salato, and pistachio are my favorites! Service was great, the girl who helped us let us try a few samples before deciding. The ambiance was nice - since it's new the inside is modern and very clean. But seating is limited and at times the line can get a bit long. The hazelnut mousse is the same story -- far too sweet, with large but rancid nuts. And just like the pistachio, the ice cream melted all over my hand right after I paid. Ugh. I honestly don't get the hype. Why are people lining up for overly sweet, fast-melting ice cream with rancid nuts? Maybe the world's gone a little nuts itself. I did notice a pattern though -- many OC ice cream and bakery spots design their layouts so customers queue from the entrance, just 40 inches from the cashier. In short, Great Gelato, beautiful store, bad service. Result is I'm not repeating my visit. With a few more details, It was our first time to this store at the spectrum. Gelato was really good and everyone liked it. Seasonal flavors offered more American style flavors with a European twist like sea salt caramel cheesecake. The store is very nicely lit and designed inside. The human and service part of our experience was dismal at best. To pay 30 bucks for 4 small cups/tiny in American standards and get a service like this is not a way to create repeat customers. The short guy behind the fridge was annoyed immediately off the bat from the first interaction and was not welcoming. I said I wanted to see the flavors but he was not having it as if people come in and know what they want at a new store. He clearly did not want to give samples. We only asked for 1 and he acted like it was the end of the world. As new customers that is essential to see how the gelato is. Then the manager I'm guessing, guy with a different shirt and mustache came and helped and he def short changes you for the small piccolo and puts half the amount the other guy did. It's ice cream at the end dude. You're charging for glorified flavored frozen milk. Who cares just fill up that tiny cup and move on. Was not welcoming either and seemed overworked and annoyed. Bathroom was locked so we couldn't wash our hands or kids hands. Napkins tear up when you try to wipe your hands with as they are cheaply made and stick to your skin. Tables outside were dirty and we had to wipe them down to sit. All I can say is, I don't care how good your gelato/ice cream is, if your service is trash it makes it undesirable and I'm not coming back and not bringing any family or friends back. read more

Wide variety of rich gelato flavors that you can taste test. Tried the affogato which was very smooth. Only thing is I wish it was served in a slightly wider cup. The scoop of gelato fills the entire surface and the espresso sat completely underneath. Could use a better presentation as it looks like gelato on top of espresso rather gelato drowned in espresso. The line was pretty decent length, and it took fairly a while to get through. When we got to the front of the line, the employees were very kind about samples. Everything looked so good, we ended up trying about 4 different flavors or so. All were really good, but I opted in for the Sweet Cream and the Salted Caramel flavors. These were so delicious. It was not overly sweet and the perfect texture. Sometimes I get gelato and it's a bit too melty for me. However, this was perfectly smooth and creamy. We were so excited my kids were looking through the glass patiently as the line was quite long. it was a Tuesday night at like 830 pm on February 3rd and then this happened they're was a girl working behind the counter and then male who must have been the manager so we are waiting patiently and it's our turn the guy didn't even greet us for one neither did the female She was busy with the customer in front of us so the guy then takes the family behind us we naturally move foward the girls finished her customer then proceeds to take the customer behind the customer tjey was behind us !!! again didn't ask but proceeds to take the person behind the person that was behind us so we are at the desk to pay but have not gotten to even order ice cream so then we order when been in line now for over 20 mins patiently waiting I asked the girl if I could have some topping on my ice cream since I order the strawberry cheese cake but I really think she was mad becuase we were holding the line up which was not our fault I was walking to pay and accidentally dropped my ice cream and after waiting for 20 mins and being completely I'm stressed and embarrassed about my experencie my wife cleaned up the ice cream and said hey it's ok we pay for it it's are fault so I said I did not want the ice cream that I was ok with not eating it but was more than happy to pay for it even the people behind us confirmed we did drop the ice cream the man offered to pay for the order on the house we refused becuase it was not there fault we dropped it so for some reason the girl that work there told the man that I threw the ice cream at her and asked my children to give them the ice cream back and ask it's us to leave his store even tho the people behind us said it was indeed a accident we cleaned it our selfs and was willing to pay even tho we did not ask for a replace ment and we're asked to give the ice cream back out of my kids hands that they were eating and asked is to leave I'm more than embarrassed I'm appalled and I would like a manager to call me back asap and I will be calling the general manager of their store since this is the first and last time I will ever go to there establishment maybe you should treat your employees to be kind to the guest it's not that hard and it really made me my family Feel very unwanted and disespected in every way please call me at (562) 615-1100.
