So this is a new place, that lots of people had an opinion on. Well, we went for lunch, the decor is country/industrial/minimalistic. It's pretty interesting looking. The bar is BIG! We sat there. The bartender was awesome and the beer selection as vast. We each had an appetizer and entree for lunch with a cold brew. Everything was good in taste, portions were decent. The price wasn't awful either. Our lunch with 2 drinks, 2 apps and 2 entrees was around $70. (Yes that's more then I want to spend on lunch, but once in a while, not a bad idea.) read more

We eat out daily and I thought it was wonderful. Completely full and the noise was manageable. Food is priced well and portions were more than adequate. Everyone was very nice, happy and cordial. I'm leaving 3 stars because the bartenders were on point. The food wasn't bad....my only gripe is this. PLEASE Re-heat meatloaf in a OVEN not a MICROWAVE! This annoys me so much! I'm paying 22$ for it! At least give the customer the respect they deserve! I work 6 days a week in a kitchen with a lot more complex food than this...How hard is it to re-heat meatloaf "chef?" Shame on this place until they get it together...again the food wasn't terrible. Just care a little more, and don't microwave my food! read more

Meh. I wish I could like this place but ..meh. It was just ok. Food was nothing spectacular. The location is really decent and landscaping was very nice but that's about all. The staff was just not well at all. They seemed inexperienced and not very welcoming. Their downfall with this review is the fact that they held a huge staff meeting in the same area with us. We went around 4:30, which is early dinner, so I was very shocked that our whole meal was next to a large meeting. Who holds there meetings in the restaurant space??? Seriously stupid. read more

Glad we tried this place!! Went on a Saturday night and it was kind of early so it wasn't that busy, prompt service by a great server I think was Jason. I had the fried chicken which was very moist and tasty with a peach sauce over it and garlic mashed potato. My husband had the meatloaf and mashed and said that was also delicious. The serving were generous but it wasn't served with a veggie or any rolls and butter which was a little disappointing. I also had a nice strawberry rose sangria which was refreshing. The atmosphere is very nice, rustic :contemporary with both high top tables in the bar area and also regular low dining tables in 2 rooms with a fireplace. Spacious and inviting. After a few visits, and a general feel for the place I feel like a confident 4 stars is appropriate. Every time I've visited Back 40 I've always received great food and great service, and I have to applaud their menu changes. Since the beginning, every change I've noticed has actually been for the better which gives me hope for the future of Back 40. I think this place gives locals another option besides the typical "mom and pop restaurants", and is a great addition to North Kingstown. BUT if you visit, leave room for the Allies Donut Bread Pudding!! It will be the highlight of the night! read more

My husband and I went to the Back 40 for the first time. Was excellent! We started with the loaded tacos they were out of this world. My husband has the salmon tacos and I had the fish & chips. I'm very very fussy with fish & chips so I had to try them. The fish was not greasy at all and they gave a nice size piece of fish. Our waiter was very upbeat and friendly. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting. We without a doubt will go back. I had written a review on google where there was many positive reviews but then saw yelp with a low number and I did not think yelp reviews does this place justice. We came early, around 5:30 and it was not crowded. However, around 6 it got very busy and much louder. Our waitstaff was pleasant and efficient. We enjoyed the Buffalo Cauliflower very much. Also, our meals were served quickly and accurately. The food was very good. I enjoyed the black bean and quinoa burger with roasted carrots and my partner said his jambalaya was also very good. Always crowded, for a reason. It's a little of a generic "brew pub" type of place without the quirkiness of an actual brew pub. Not that there's anything wrong with that. They do really well with the volume of clientele, staff is really friendly too. Beer selection is extensive, mostly highly (over)-hopped, but a lover of well-balanced beer can find some very good selections. The food is tasty, well thought out and well presented. I actually really like their salads as well but the prices are ridiculous...$13 without a meat on top?! and to add is a min. of $6ish bucks...that's crazy! Just tried their steak tips and risotto...bad bad bad (mostly just bc of the steak). Sub par nachos. Delicious panzanella salad! Just cant stomach adding chicken for $6! I've been to different restaurant incarnations in this location (previously, Corner Tavern had the space). It's a good spot, good highway access, ample parking. I'll start with the cons. The seating. Choices were high-top bar tables (I'm 5'3", so those are always kinda tough) or dining tables with metal chairs. The chairs were a couple inches narrower than the backsides we were putting in them, and the metal dug in. Our booth-side dinner companions were comfortable, though. The service was great. Our waitress, Abigail, was just lovely, and took excellent care of us. The adult beverage menu was impressive, with more offerings than average, and a good cocktail menu. The appetizer menu was very good, a great set of choices, all of a very shareable size. We had the beef Wellington egg rolls (three delicious egg rolls, cut in half, served with a cheese sauce and a spicy sriracha dipping sauce), and the spinach-artichoke dip. There were a couple of items on the appetizer menu that caught my eye, so I'll be back to try the prime rib poutine or the deviled eggs another time. Our entrees were good. Decent selection, not bad prices, good presentation. Nothing really outstanding, but some solid choices that were done well. Didn't save room for dessert, so the Allie's Donut Bread Pudding is going to have to wait for the next visit. In summary, I'd go back for cocktails and appetizers, but I might plan to skip the entree and head straight for dessert. read more

For all the hype this was a total let down. First even with a reservation we had to wait 40 min. Second, food was good but not worth the $$ they are charging. The only saving grace was a dessert made with allies donuts, it was amazing--almost didn't get to try it because the waiter initially thought they were sold out. I was here for a Christmas party and really enjoyed the environment. There is a dining area and a bar area which is nice if you're wanting a separation from crying kiddos. There are high tops and a fire place in the bar section, very cozy. 24 beers on tap, the only garbage one was Coors Light. I was surprised by how affordable the menu was. My husband and I split an order of Old Bay Tots for an app. It came with cheese and garlic aioli to dip the tots in. Perfect size to split. For my entree, I had cauliflower steak, weird name right? It is a vegetarian dish. So be warned if you are looking for meat. It is not a pile of cauliflower on a steak. Anyways, it was grilled perfectly. Usually I try to visit a restaraunt 2-4 times before I leave a review unless I'm blown away or disappointed. This is my 2nd visit in as many weeks and both times have been awesome. Staff is friendly and talkative which is super important to me.if I just wanted someone to take my order to I'd just go to mickey d's lol. Drinks are good. I took my wife, her Mom, and Grandma to Mother's Day Brunch and it was a chaotic zoo! The Buffett looked way overpriced for what they offered, it looked more like a Continental breakfast and it was jammed into a tight space making it more hectic. We ordered off the menu and out of five dishes, two were cooked well and three dishes were not- Avocado Toast and Eggs with hash were over cooked and meat was real fatty/stringy. We have eaten here many times (food/service always good) but this was just our 2nd visit since taking a pandemic hiatus... Place was BUZZING (a little after 5:00 on a Saturday afternoon!) so had to wait a bit for a table, but just chilled in the car until our buzzer went off... I swear our waitress, Julie, was handling the place practically single-handedly - we saw her at tables ALL over the place. But our service did not suffer; she was outstanding. Despite her overload, Julie remained sweet and unfazed and was attentive to our table as needed. I was undecided between 3 menu items and her recommendation of the (Miso) Baked Cod was spot on... was one of the best tastes I've had there! SO good. Absolutely incredible meal in every way. The Other Burger is, no doubt, in my top 10 burgers of all time. The balance of the bacon onion jam with the jalapeño coleslaw and a perfectly charred burger that tastes like it was grilled at a backyard BBQ (in all the good senses) blew my mind. The food was good, and so was our service. The meatloaf tastes good but just needed a little more sauce to go with the mashed potatoes but it once again tasted good. My kids tore through the grilled cheese and Mac and cheese, and my wife enjoyed the salmon. The winner for me was the Wellington egg rolls and the sauce I felt took away from it.
