A bit too saucy and salty for me but I'll go back for the jerk chicken. Good portion size and solid meal, good tenderness to the meat. I like the sauce for the jerk chicken way better though, because more herbs and acidity and has a lighter feel to it. read more

Wow! It's been about 2 1/2 years since I ate here and obviously I forgot how good this place is. I mean it was fantastic. We got the jerk plate, jerk sandwich and BBQ combo plate. I am from the South and I do not like a lot of BBQ from here out west but this place was awesome. The char on the BBQ absolutely made it wonderful. Wow! We ordered both the 3 Meat BBQ Combo and the Jerk Chicken/Jerk Salmon Combo, plus extra sides of Collard Greens, Mac N Cheese, and the fried Cornmeal Bread. We purposely ordered extra so that we could have a few meals. Holy jeebus! The food was amazing! I haven't had jerk that good in ages! The rice and peas is beautifully savory and compliments everything. The barbecue sauce was a smokey slather of goodness over awesome chicken and ribs. The collards were luscious with a kick of spice. The mac was creamy and a great foil to the spice in the collards and the jerk. But the show stopper: the jerk salmon! Smokey, spicy, and different than any other smoked salmon that I have ever had. Overall: it was hard to not eat it all, as it hit every craving that we had. We also ordered dessert (sweet potato pudding and pineapple upside down cake)...but we couldn't even try it because we couldn't stop eating the dinner! But we have wonderful leftovers for tomorrow. Yum! My partner and I visited today and had a very good experience. The shop seems to be adopting COVID protocols, including car side delivery for us. I got the BBQ chicken yard bowl and my partner got the jerk salmon and pork combo plate. I enjoyed mine a lot; it ended up being better than expected. It's called a "bowl" which made me think the rice and beans would be the foundation of the plate. However, the bowl was a bed of lettuce with other veg and a scoop of rice plus chicken--this was great for me! Chicken breast can get so dried out, but this was tender and moist with good sauce. My partner enjoyed his jerk salmon but found the pork to be quite dry. (And I agree--it was.) The plantains were tasty, too. The rice had a coconutty flavor: unexpected yet delicious. I wish I had a second scoop of that for later. We also got beef patties; these were large, but the filling was, for us, underwhelming as it wasn't particular flavorful. (It seemed like it should have been served with a sauce that wasn't included.) When we go back, I want to try a veggie patty. Overall, a very good lunch and a spot I'd recommend to others! read more

And I'm pretty sure this is the only Doordash meal I've ever ordered where the food actually arrived hot (!) Pure magic. Will get try the jerk chicken next time for sure. Can't wait! This restaurant is one of my favorites for take out. You can use Doordash, the Yelp app or go in person to the restaurant to order take out. I ordered in person at the restaurant and waited about 15-20 minutes for my order. The portions are nicely sized and the menu has a great variety. You can order jerk plates, BBQ plates and wraps with numerous sides. My go to order is usually the jerk combo plate with the jerk chicken white meat and ox tail, however, I just opted for the jerk chicken white meat plate today with a side of mac and cheese, coleslaw and Jamaican patty. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of the patty because I was hungry and ate it right away but it was delicious. It is essentially a turnover pastry filled with ground beef that is seasoned with jerk spices. There was a good ratio of dough to filling. The chicken was moist and seasoned perfectly. The rice and beans were cooked and well balanced in terms of being sweet/savory. My first time having Back A Yard was at the Menlo Park location and their rice and beans were really sweet. The plantains were not too sweet and had a good caramelization on the outside. Mac and cheese comes with a bit of spice mixed in and was a tiny bit salty. Coleslaw had a good crunch and the dressing was perfect (not overpowered with vinegar). I would recommend this place if you are craving some good soul food! read more

Collard greens were great over rice I prepared at home. And everything was in general great spread out as dinner and a midnight snack. But might have just had a better version of each of the dishes/sides elsewhere. Except maybe the fried plantains, which I thought were above average. And bonus, it's extra important to be spending your money with black owned business right now and this is a place where you can do that. So not only are you eating good food, you're doing a good thing. I was eager to see this place open when I noticed a Jamaican restaurant was opening in Campbell. Then the pandemic hit and wondered if they would open, but they did. Finally got a chance to try them for take out, and man, what a plate of food! I had the Jerk Pork and Chicken and combination plate and it was excellent. The chicken had an excellent marinade, the skin crispy, and their jerk sauce is a great combination of savory and spice, like good jerk should be. The pork was a little fatty, but that just the way I like it. The rice and beans was lively and the plantains were fried perfectly. (This is not the place to go if you're on Weight Watchers!) I'm totally obsessed with them. I'm always excited whenever a restaurant has solid vegan/vegetarian options but their "jerk tofu" is super delicious on another level. The sauce that comes with it is tasty and a perfect (spicy!) complement to the tofu. I also like to mix a little sauce into the rice and beans. This restaurant gave me my first experience with fried plantains and I loveeeee themmmmm, i always get extra. As a side the corn bread is OK, too cake-like for me, but I go nuts for the Mac and cheese and always get extra of that as well. 10/10 for service, speed, and taste! read more

We got food for takeout two nights in a row. Almost gave only two stars, but I really wanted to give this place a good review. They've been open a month, but still seem to have some issues with their takeout process. Maybe they'll get it worked out with time. Bottom line: great food, horrible customer service. Food: the jerk dishes are delicious. The pork and oxtails are tender, melt-in-your mouth, with a unique flavor. The BBQ is pretty standard, didn't stand out for us. Night 1: phoned at 4:00 and requested that the order be ready at 5:15 for pickup. When I arrived, the first thing I noticed was that one of the employees at the cash register was not wearing a mask, even though there are multiple signs saying that customers must wear masks to enter. What's that about? All the other employees had masks on. Your decision to NOT wear a mask puts ME at risk. My order wasn't ready yet. They were out of key lime pie, so they asked if they could sub the sweet potato pudding. Sure, but you took my phone number when I ordered and you could have called me to ask before I came to pick up. You had more than an hour. I still waited 15 minutes more before my order was ready. I figured, ok, they're really busy tonight because it's Juneteenth, and maybe they got a lot more orders than they expected. Night 2: Wanted to share the food with our daughter's family, so thought we'd give them another try. I phoned at 3:50, placed my order, was told that it would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived at 4:15, 25 minutes later. The same female employee was at the cash register, still not wearing a mask. She said something to me that I couldn't hear because the music was so loud, took my payment, and walked away. None of the other employees at the front took any responsibility for my order. I thought I might have to wait a few minutes for my order, but 10 minutes later, when she came back to the register, my name still hadn't been called. I asked this employee where my order was. Even though I was the customer that she had most recently served, she showed no sign of recognition and asked me if I had already paid. When I gave her my name, she looked at the to-go orders that had been sitting on the counter next to the register since I arrived and found my order, which had been sitting there all the time. She didn't apologize, just said, 'have a nice evening.' read more

The.oxtails were very good fall off the bone the red beans and rice perfect I can taste the coconut milk. The plantains are my favorite those were delicious.
