    Ordering from the counter

Finally! Good Hawaiian food in San Jose! I've been looking for this for so long. Why there aren't more good Hawaiian food places in the Bay Area I just don't understand. This is good, solid Hawaiian lunch plate food you might find on the islands. Just solid, not greasy, not complicated, and really good tasting food. I'm already planning my next trip back. FOOD: Of course this is why you come here. Great selection of standard Hawaiian staples like lau lau and kalua pork and saimin and staples like BBQ chicken and beef. So thrilled they allow you to choose two sides! Standards like mac salad, rice, and chow mein (three different kinds of rice), but also broccoli, salad, and french fries. Wow. My daughter has been searching for good loco moco and we finally found it here. Yum. Plus they have all these good Chinese dishes too! Now I have to come back for that? SERVICE: So pleased with the service. The woman behind the counter was very helpful and patient. And the food came out relatively quickly. Portion sizes were terrific and well plated. COST: Excellent for what you get. They really pile it on. Definitely coming back! Probably many times.

I stopped into Be Wok & Hawaiian BBQ for a snack. A standalone store in a decent sized shopping center. The parking seemed plentiful. The place is a simple family business that serves Chinese & Hawaiian cuisine. Order via kiosk or cashier. One unisex restroom. The interior has several tables where you can sit and eat. One large LCD TV screen showing professional sports. The owner/cashier was super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Musubi with Portuguese Sausage. Decent with a flavorful sausage. I look forward to trying some of their other dishes.

    Seafood Combo - with Shortrib

The fried fish was crispy and flaky. I opted for my 2 sides to be Mac salad and greens. The combo does not automatically come with rice so make sure you pick rice as a side if that's what you're looking for. The Mac salad has a pleasant creaminess from the mayo. The greens side adds a crunch and freshness. The portions here are very generous! Three butterfly shrimps, two short ribs and a large fish fillet!

Seafood and BBQ Chicken Combo Lunch with fried rice and chow mein plus Hawaiian Sun pass-o-guava chaser

Came here recently for lunch and left fully satisfied, with emphasis on "full" because portions are ginormous. I ordered the Seafood and Meat combo with BBQ chicken and fried rice and chow mein as sides. After a short wait of maybe 10 minutes, I was gifted a massive clam-shell container stuffed with 3 golden panko-fried prawns, a massive piece of lightly battered fried fish, multiple slabs of grilled chicken thighs atop mountains of fried rice and chow mein, plus shredded green cabbage to round out the plate. Everything was savory and fresh, though the star was that BBQ chicken, which was fork-tender and deeply flavored with soy and ginger. This combo plate order could easily feed two people, making it a great value. I couldn't finish it all so will be piecing off the leftovers for another day or two. Will add this place to my too-hot-to-cook options this summer and beyond.

The food was very good. Walnut prawns were nice and hot/fresh out the fryer and the portion size was very generous. Just have to order your rice on the side. Wonton soup was your standard wonton but also was pretty good. Service was great the cashier was very helpful because I had a few questions. The inside is nice and clean they had a HUGE tv showing the nba playoffs, bonus for that, and they have a very large selection on their menu so def give this place a try! Okay, solid 4 - maybe 4.5 stars. SO - This place is pretty great. I find myself coming back here ordering many times and the food has been great. I've gone back 4 times now. Every time, the service has been amazing. Love her service, she's so attentive. I've since ordered: Honey Walnut Shrimp - they keep the sauce separate when ordering to go so the shrimp can stay crispy. So thoughtful. Beef and Green beans - sooo yummy. I love green beans and I really liked the flavor of the sauce and texture of the beef for this dish. Along with the usual bbq chicken and beef Hawaiian plates. They have the option to choose all Mac or all rice which I LOVE because I just love their Mac. Completely redeemed, they know good flavors. You can't go wrong, and even if it was an off day - give it another chance, they're pretty consistent on a good cook. Plenty of seating inside, but they also make pick up a breeze.

    Chicken chow mein
    Charlotte P.

I ordered chicken chow mein and won ton soup. The portions were a good value for the money, in my opinion. The chow mein had that nice wok cooked taste and I didn't find it greasy like some other places. The broth is the star of the wonton soup. It has wontons in it plus veggies like broccoli & zucchini, beef & chicken. I'm not sure what was in the wonton itself but there was a lot of flavor in there, and they weren't over cooked and falling apart which was great. The service was fast, the food was ready in about 20 minutes. This seems like a good little casual spot with some modern updates like an ordering kiosk.

Be Wok & Hawaiian BBQ was overall an average experience for me. Customer service was good. The young girl working the counter was very sweet and friendly, and the restaurant itself is spacious. I ordered the chicken katsu plate with rice and broccoli. Unfortunately, it was pretty plain and nothing really stood out flavor-wise. It definitely needed sauce to bring it to life. The real star of my meal was the freshly squeezed orange juice. It tasted fresh and delicious, and I appreciated that it was made to order and had no added items. One thing I did notice, though, was some back-and-forth between front and kitchen duties that was not ideal from a food handling perspective. The girl helping at the register was also assisting in the back and even finished juicing the oranges for my drink, but I did not notice hand washing in between. Through the swinging kitchen door, I also saw chicken being transferred around without gloves by the same young man who had been handling the juice earlier. To be fair, I know restaurant kitchens are busy places and I'm sure worse things happen, but it was just something I happened to notice since I had a clear view from my table. That said, I ate my food, drank my juice, and was completely fine. Overall, not terrible by any means, but nothing particularly memorable either besides the orange juice and friendly service.

this hawaiian bbq spot is great for a fast casual lunch! tried their bbq combo + chow mein + mac salad -- the short ribs and beef were both delicious! well-seasoned and tender. the teriyaki chicken was good too, but my preferred choices are the beef options! the chow mein was great as well, good wok hei but not oily or too salty. the mac salad was good, very standard. everything was a large balanced portion! service here is friendly and quick as well :) would recommend for a casual meal!

BBQ mixed plate on left and Bento plate on the right
    Don U.

Tried the BBQ mixed plate and the Bento plate, both were fresh and delicious. The fried rice and Mac salad sides were great. Wished the side garden salad came with a sesame dressing instead of ranch which didn't fit the flavor profile. Portions are large. Restaurant was very clean and loved watching movies on the giant TV. Service was excellent. Parking was plentiful. Will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

Fast and efficient service. Order online and was ready on time. Lots of delicious choices from typical Hawaiian offerings and also tons of Chinese dishes as well and so much customization. Inside was clean and new looking with an order kiosk there and large menu to look at. Ample seating inside and parking is really close. Recommend this new location

Seafood and Meat (short ribs) Combo

Mixed reviews here - some items were really tasty while others not much so. First the pluses: First rate were the Hawaiian BBQ Short Ribs - nice and juicy, tender and flavorful. The Kalua Pork was smokey and flavorful, while not being with the cabbage being crunchy and not limp. It is nice that my dish was customizable with a choice of two sides from more than six options (such as regular white rice, brown rice, fresh vegetables, etc. For the minuses, this was the first time I had a Lau Lau, which pork chuck wrapped in a taro leaf and steamed. The ingredients were listed as smoke roasted pork with Ti leaf, banana and sea salt. However, I found the taro leaf a bit shredded which may have affected the steaming process. The meat was very dry, and it had a distinct plastic-y taste. Disappointing. The different musubi were inconsistent. The spam musubi was delicious, while the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken was dry, as well as the chicken katsu. Finally, the fried fish, though cooked nicely with a crunchy crust, had a bland flavor. Being eco-conscious, I am disappointed that they used clear plastic containers instead of environmentally friendly options, such as biodegradable containers. But, I do understand the restaurant trying to keep costs to the consumer down. Overall, my rating is average. Is it fair to compare this with actual food I had in Hawaii? Maybe, maybe not, but quality consistency is important. For this place to receive a five-star rating, they will need to up their game.

I saw the old Chinese place went bye bye so went to try some Chinese from the new. These people did a poor job of analyzing the logistics of the area prior to opening. I wish them well but I suspect a year from now this place will be gone. There's nothing inside to even imply they want you to stay and eat there and clearly prefer you just do-take out. There's four or five tables a big screen TV and lots of plastic for your meal I had garlic shrimp and rice with broccoli and that was not bad but there's nothing that would make me want to return here. OK, it does typify these Hawaiian food places I wouldn't really call restaurants but this place is bare minimum to the bone. Felt like being in a Jiffy Lube*

Delicious bbq place…read more My daughter and I grabbed a late lunch here on the way to visit (mom/wife) at the hospital. It was delicious! I had the hotlink and fries. The hotlink was perfectly cooked juicy and just the right amount if spiciness. The French fries were yummy! I think they are fried in lard or beef fat since they were so yummy! Very crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Again they were very tasty! My daughter had the small plate of ribs and a 1/2 pound of brisket. She said she wasn't hungry..... She loved the juicy tender ribs and the tender and juicy brisket as well! She must have really liked it since she coveted the left overs to take home! The ambiance is vey cozy and comfortable to sit in all day long and pass the day by eating delicious bbq! Lovely place!

VERY DISAPPOINTED on how they did me. all the sides were average, nothing to talk about. if i were to ever come back, ill just stick with the beef ribs
