So we are hanging out the next few days near Glacier National Park in Montana. We spent last night in Columbia Falls. We tried to get into Backslope but they had a 30-40 minute wait last night. After 12+ miles of hiking we were tired and did not want to wait. We went someplace else. Today after our Great Northern Rafting white water trip our guide, Ozzie, suggested them without hesitation saying they have the best food anywhere around. Not wanting to sit in line to get into the park we decided to give it another whirl. Oh my gosh it was oh so worth the trip. We had their bistro burger and split a half salad. Both were perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. The burger was a perfect medium with goat cheese and pickled onions among other things. It's was devine. I had their house-made ginger lemonade which made me want more - I got two! I cannot say enough good things about this little place in Columbia Falls, MT except if you're there go for the best meal ever! read more

Went for lunch and a beer, beer was okay. There were so many flies in this place I was immediately grossed out and wanted to leave but felt awkward because I had just sat down. I got a salad with grilled chicken. It was almost all shredded cabbage like from a bag and chopped almonds, plate was too small for it and the very worst part, the first bite of chicken was pure fat. Why does no one care about flies in Montana? My third restaurant around these parts and flies at all of them, but this place that the most. I would have truly ignored every other restaurant we tried in lieu of this place if I could rewind time. Fish and chips. Not standard. Lightly fried. Meaty. Amazing sauces. Everyone else was super happy with their food too but the bbq pull pork sandwich got a just okay review from my daughter based on the sauce. The huckleberry cheesecake was worth a flight. Arrived at 6:30 on a Friday for a 4 top, waited an hour for a table, waited another 45 min for our food to arrive (the restaurant was only about 30% full when we placed our food order - 2 chicken sandwiches, kids mac n cheese, and chicken bowl). Food was decent quality but our server had a bad attitude from the moment we sat down which made the whole situation worse. After eating quickly, we asked our server for desserts to go. She returned a few minutes later but missed one of the desserts and immediately went to assist another table- leaving us sitting and waiting again. I got up and walked to the register to then have a younger girl roll her eyes when I asked if I could buy something from the baked good area (which other folks were already doing). Instead of just letting us pay, she asked, "Which table are you at?"- because she wanted to get back to talking to her co-worker instead of helping us wrap up. Our server ended up came back over ringing up the missed dessert. Still tipped 18% on the meal because everyone needs a bit of grace... As we left, we saw 6 or so kitchen crew sitting out back smoking- which is probably why it took forever to throw a piece of chicken on a pre-made bun. Here's a few suggestions- serve people well, don't expect a great tip if the service isn't there. You can't have gratitude if you expect something for nothing. Try being nice, even empathetic... If your kitchen can't support a full house or is running behind, let the customer know that up front and try to go above and beyond to still make the experience great. I don't know this area at all, but would bet you can find as good or better food and a lot better experience elsewhere. read more

No cider options for my wife so she tried Nitro: Chai Somethin' which she did not enjoy. We both tried some of their specials. My wife had the Labneh Plate and I had the Hawaiian Jamm Burger. The food is good but I have never been here without some attitude. They say they are open till 8 but it really means that they aren't seating after 7:30. They really mean they want you OUT at 8. The last time we were there we arrived an hour before closing. Our orders were wrong and they didn't want to fix it because we would be there too long. I have been a big fan of Backslope in the past, even recommending to out of town guests...however...yesterday was my second and last very disapppinting experience. The Power Greens bowl has degraded to a couple of handfuls of spring mix lettuce like you get in the plastic tubs in the grocery store with a few dried cranberries, walnuts and big globs of goat cheese. No kale, no brussels sprouts etc like the menu states. The previous expereince was just as disapppointing, especially the garlic fries. Indoor and outdoor seating options, an impressively diverse beer selection that should appeal to all palates, and a surprisingly eclectic dining menu. Perhaps I'm guilty of assuming, but I didn't expect there to be good Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Mexican, Indian, or Mediterranean-inspired offerings in the heart of Montana, yet Backslope Brewery has all the above. But after ordering the Bulgogi Bowl, I was genuinely taken aback at home delicious it was. The thinly sliced beef was juicy and tender, and the kitchen nailed the sweet-savory balance in the meat. Combined with the slaw, fried egg, cilantro, and drizzled sriracha, it made for a really tasty meal. The Mac n cheese was sweet and sharp and literally overflowing its container. Visited here for the first time today on a lunch date with my boyfriend. We sat at the bar and the ambiance was nice, causal, and relaxed. We ordered the fried pickles which were very good, although my boyfriend had hoped they were pickle chips instead of pickle spears. Small detail, but we were still satisfied, especially with the spicy mayo it came with. I loved the ginger lemonade! We both ordered basic burgers, mine with a veggie patty, and it came with fries that were more like thin potato patties with some good seasoning and a good amount of parsley (i think?) which I appreciated. We got a huge snickerdoodle cookie for dessert and it was so good! Biggest compliment to this place is the amount of tofu and nonmeat options!!!! Dare I say this is my new favorite spot?? The food is delicious, but it was overshadowed by the extremely rude staff. The hostess had the worst attitude. She sat two parties ahead of us that came after us. When I nicely asked her about it, she rolled her eyes and snapped back, "I haven't set up your table yet." Every time she walked by our table, she was mouthing or saying rude comments about customers. I have never experienced such extremely bad behavior at a restaurant. There are not too many delicious options near Hungry Horse / Glacier NP. This is a fantastic gem. Locally sourced everything as much and as often as possible. Gluten free and vegan options! My kiddos LOVED the Mac-n-cheese and my veggie burger was a pleasant surprise! Being from Las Vegas we have very high food standard! Backslope met all of them. Excellent food and beer. The bbq sauce on the puuled pork was perfect - some heat and just a touch of sweet. The fried chicken sandwich had just the right amount of breading and not greasy at all.
