The burgers are great. However, the air-mask at the drive through turned me off. I'll not be back. First time ever coming here. I'm not impressed. I wanted a fried chicken sandwich. The only option they had was chicken tenders in a sandwich that was ok. The food was ok....the worst part of the experience was the cashier guy. Most places when you walk in they great you. This dude just stared at me like I had entered and wasn't welcome. They I explained that this was my first time. He took no pleasure in explaining how things worked. He failed to tell me anything. He was horrible and should be put ok the back working by himself. I'm glad someone from the W. Coast agrees Backyard surpasses In-N-Out. This is probably the 2nd best fast burger joint in the area. (cook out for shakes more than burgers in case you've read previous reviews) There is a wide selection of toppings and sizes, the waffle fries are 'super awesome'. I don't recall the prices being dirt cheap but they are comparable to 5guys. The one on Leesville/Strickland is also intelligently placed next to a Goodberry's if you like frozen custard. Not my favorite, and not even on par with new metropolitan fro-yo places like Pinkberry (comments on name withheld). However for those who enjoy old-fashion style sundaes, sitting on the sidewalk or outdoor patio tables, this is a good combo. read more

For fast food, the burgers here are fantastic. No other fast food place really compares in Raleigh (Five Guys/Andy's is better in my opinion, but they don't have a drive-thru). This location has been around for at least 8 years, as I used to go here for lunch when I was in highschool. Whenever I make it around North Raleigh and I need a burger fix, this is my go-to place for a quick bite. Their waffle fries and seasoned fries are pretty good as well. Pretty solid place for a quick lunch or dinner. Both my fiance and I were SUPER stuffed after each eating a burger and side. Wild Turkey Burger: turkey burger wasn't anything special. It tasted like the frozen kind I buy from Harris Teeter sometimes. Toppings added the perfect crunch (tomato, red onion, pickles). Creole mayo + the tangy mustard was a tasty combo--especially with the Pepper Jack cheese. Chipotle Burger: fave item consumed. Loved the Sweet Baby Ray BBQ sauce + the chipotle mayo. The bacon, veggies, and crispy onion straws sealed the mouthgasm deal. Fried pickles: thick, crunchy, with a light breading. Loved dunking them into the ranch sauce. Don't eat too much--they are salty! Onion rings: superb texture due to the Panko breadcrumbs. Loved how big these buggers were! When we rolled up to the order window, they had our order completely off. I had to repeat everything I got and it took them 5 minutes to get our food to us. I guess someone was new? Not sure why so many have reviewed this place for what they do not have, but their burgers are great. I really enjoyed that my burger was not dried out like many places. It was just a thick juicy beefy burger. Not over seasoned but just right this place really can throw down that amazing backyard flavor. Next I enjoyed my peanut butter milkshake which made me reminisce of a Reece peanut butter cup sundae yummmm! I had never eaten here so I thought I would give it a try. Was not impressed with the service here. Ordered the Hawaiian chicken sandwich with no mustard or mayo and Cajun mayo instead. I got my sandwich took a bite. The chicken was a little dry and of course the mayo and mustard was not removed. No Cajun mayo added either. Took back to the counter and asked them to correct the problem. I sat back down at my table and waited for the new sandwich. The employee brought me the same sandwich not a new one with the right ingredients that I requested and insisted the sauce was on the sandwich and no error was made. Really??? I told the employee that I know the difference between Cajun mayo and mustard. I even opened the sandwich and showed him the mustard seeds all over the sandwich. He then claimed that this is the Cajun mayo, didn't correct the problem and walked off. Are you kidding me??? This is unacceptable!!! I am 42 years of age and I CERTAINLY know the difference in flavor. This place is a joke. DONT MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR ORDER. Backyard Burger used to be my jam. I used to come here almost every day during lunch in highschool, and order the kids meal, because they give you a rice krispy treat. Score. Now, it seems like they're kind of lackluster. We had several orders (5), and 2 came out wrong. There was only one other party there and although the food came out fast and hot, the workers and manager seemed kind of complacent with the fact that orders came out mixed up or wrong. Like it was just part of their thing, one or two orders were going to come out wrong. The price was a bit more than usual cheap fast food, but for the food I got I'm happy to pay a bit more. The burger was thick, flavorful and filling! Woo! I loved the bbq sauce and onion straws, bacon and chipotle sauce... so delicious! The onion rings were probably the best ones I've had from a drive thru. They were super crispy and large and were actual onion rings... not like the weird ones you get from Burger King. Totally worth the 10-15 min drive it took me to get there! If you're looking for a burger but don't want to dine in somewhere, I highly recommend Backyard burger to satisfy your quick burger craving! Ordered the Double Classic plain with just cheddar cheese. They told me it "comes with a large fry and drink" but then proceeded to up charge me 2.39 for each. My $10.38 combo was $12.xx. It came out wrong- had everything on it. I sent it back and it finally came out correct but without the fries. Took another trip to the kitchen to get them back. They also took my receipt when they took the food back so I don't have that anymore. Overall the food is good but the service is awful and too hurried. Well my experience here was just ok. I was expecting more out of the food, especially if I'm paying almost $10 for a meal. The service was ok. The guy in the red shirt was more interested in checking out the teenage high school girls on the other side of the counter. The scary part is that he looked to be about 30. I ordered the bacon cheddar burger and like I said it was ok. If I were in the area again I would most likely look for something else that gives me a little more value for $10. This is by far the BEST Black Angus burger I have ever eaten anywhere! They also offer turkey & veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads for all those that prefer items other than red meat. Their menu includes many delicious sides such as fried pickles, onion rings, chili, baked potatoes, and cole slaw to name a few. They always have a selection of tasty fresh baked cobblers to choose from for dessert and for your choice of beverage there are not only the usual soda choices of Pepsi products, but several flavors of milkshakes as well. However, I always choose the Strawberry Lemonade ~ it is my favorite! Not too sweet, not too sour.... just the right blend of "in-between". Their burgers are too dry. I understand the need to cook raw beef to a certain temperature, but you can still maintain safety and provide a juicy, flavorful burger. Almost every time we buy burgers here they're over cooked. The fries are definitely a highlight though. First visit tonight on a lazy Sunday... Ordered the Chicken Combo platter for my daughter and my husband and I each tried the Mushroom & Swiss Angus Burger. Pretty good overall. The chicken breading was crunchy, not too salty, and had a peppery flavor that was surprising. The burgers were juicy, also not too salty, and the best bite was the combo of lettuce, tomato and mayo on the burger with mushroom and Swiss. In comparison to Five Guys ( and my husband ate at both their first and second stores in Northern Virginia, the stores on which they built their reputation), this burger was BETTER. Nice touch also that the fries were batter-dipped, yummy! Primary takeaway: not too salty, which is unusual and lets the food speak for itself. We will be back. read more
