I've had Bafang at the Rowland Heights location and now the Gardena location. The food is pretty consistent across locations. There was a good consistent line the whole time we were inside the restaurant. We were able to get a table fairly easily, but the later it got, the crowded it became. The restaurant is well lit and there were plenty of tables. My favorite Bafang item is the Signature Noodles, the balance of spice and savory is perfect. I also really enjoyed their pork chop and pork dumplings. I'm really excited to get more Taiwanese food options in South Bay! This is a great addition to our area. read more

Bafang is a solid restaurant. It's not going to rock your socks off, or win any Michelin stars, but it's very solid. The concept is pretty simple too -- make good dumplings, great sauces for the chewy noodles, and a variety of add-ons like side dishes, boba, and pork chops. The winning formula is easy recipes that can be replicated to hundreds of orders a day and Bafang does that well. Bafang has finally come to the SouthBay and we were very excited to have an SGV restaurant come to our area. It gets pretty busy during dinner time rush hour, but they make the food really quick so the turnover is very fast. We've had their dumplings before at their other locations so we already knew what to expect. And so we went with their noodles, which we prefer. The noodles are very chewy and thick. Overall, the best compliment we can pay Bafang is that the food is solid and the variance of flavor isn't wide, which adds to their consistency in production. read more

My friend lives in the neighborhood and we stopped by for a quick lunch. We ordered one of every dumpling and potsticker, and everything tasted really good. This place is a really good bang for your buck. I basically got a whole meal. I couldn't even finish all of it. I got there combo 2 with hot and sour soup. Their menu is very simple my only complaint is the signature pot stickers they don't put what's inside it. If anyone had allergies, how would we know if they don't list what's inside the pot stickers. The place is very clean, you can either see someone at the register or the kiosk for self checkout. They had some sides that were near the register. We tried the Cucumbers they were okay different from what I'm use to but good. I'd come back again to try their dumplings and boba looks yummy. The service and the wait for the food was ridiculous. The person kept apologizing on the wait but what's the hold up, place isn't even busy. Instead of fake apoligies, prioritized who came in first and get their food ready. Food was good for the price, other than that, it's ok at best. This spot is probably the best spot of all the restaurants in the plaza. When you enter the plaza all you see is in-n-out, chipotle and Panda Express, but if you look closer you will see Bafang Dumplings. The dumplings here are so good and so affordable for feeding your friends or for a family here. The quick service makes it easy to order and their menu is very appealing. One of my favorite items here would be the bafang noodles. They are a little spicy but so good. It's a really good meal and even better when you get the combo with the dumplings or pot stickers. Part of me really appreciates this place for what it is. It's open, with massive panes of glass, a high industrial ceiling, and clearly screams a weekday cafeteria lunch style, down to an open refrigerator case full of pre-packaged snacks. Ordering is a mix of at the counter or a single touch screen machine, which unfortunately doesn't flow too well as a single touch screen machine isn't enough, and for reason the refrigerated items aren't in the touch screen at all-- seems like an odd omission. Dumplings are utility but pretty good; noodles, even the spicy ones, feel more like utility than anything memorable, but they are good enough to do the job. It's the refrigerated appetizers that are a letdown... the seaweed is okay, the peanuts just a touch worse, and the pig ear was gross. 3 stars feels about right. I got the signature potstickers, fried pork chop and signature noodle. All of the items were cooked very well. My favorite would have to be the potstickers. The filling had a good taste. The pork chop was moist. However, it had a sweet taste. I might have to use their chili sauce next time to balance out the flavor. A few things to consider... The ambiance is great, clean, and comfortable. The food is not that good/tasty for the price they are charging. They charge it so expensive that they leave no choice but to NOT tip the servers. In other words, it's like "if you thought about tipping the servers, that money is going to us." Something like that. Third and last, for what they charge you, in my experience, they give you small portions. Conclusion: They are stingy with their food and the pricing. Something they should consider. Another thing I thought about is that they must have their servers working to the bone. I hope they are paying them a decent salary. This is the impression they gave me. A decent little dumpling spot with fast-casual counter service. Located in a strip mall in Gardena, with a parking lot right out front. Ambiance-wise, this place isn't offering much. What you're coming for here is quick, easy, tasty dumplings. My biggest complaint is that I wish the menu offered more variety, but they do a good job with what they do offer. I literally come here once a week to get the wonton soup at least. The flavors are so good and clean here. The best description in comparison to this, is a more affordable takeout DinTaiFung sort of place . You can walk out of here with a combo less than $20. The cashiers and customer service here are very friendly and accommodating, even though at times they are overwhelmed and there's many people waiting for food. The parking lot is super small here and with very many popular restaurants so it is best to park near the market away from the store, if you cannot find parking. I decided to give Bafang another shot after my first experience. This time, I tried the corn chowder and kimchi dumplings. The soup of decent, although I wouldn't come back for it again. The kimchi potstickers were delicious so I would recommend getting that over the original ones. I came in the late afternoon on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. I still had to wait over 20 minutes for my order even though there weren't too many people waiting on their food. Instead of doing take out, I decided to enjoy my meal at the restaurant. The interior was clean and there were lots of open tables. I like how you can customize and create your own sauces. My personal favorite is mixing the garlic sauce and chili sauce together. The Bafang pork chops were disappointing--not crunchy at all, just kinda soggy with a weird texture, and the sides were the same. Tried a few items when it first opened. Wasn't really impressed with the noodles or the soups which were somewhat bland. The dumpling and potstickers had more promise. The Signature dumplings are pretty good. Kinda reminds me of a Wei-chuan frozen in terms of the flavor. Recently got the new Veggie dumplings. Inside is a plant based protein, cabbage and shiitake mushroom. These were okay. You can taste the shiitake which I don't usually like for dumplings so probably wouldn't get it again. Better to order ahead of time online, which is pretty easy, because it does take time to cook. read more

A fun new Taiwanese dumpling place in the South Bay with cute to-go looking containers but plenty of space to eat in as well. The potstickers were very light and perfect light fried crunch! The dumplings are a cool "gold-shape" and come in 4 varieties- we enjoyed their signature type. They have several combos to mix and match things as you like! The spicy Ma-La noodles were also a nice zingy addition opposite the hearty yet light corn chowder. You can also choose from several dipping sauce options after you order, and get a boba tea if you are in the mood. Ah, a much-needed breath of fresh air for what might be the worst strip mall in Gardena, Bafang makes perfect potstickers and beautifully balanced dumplings. Split the #4 and #6 if you want to try the most stuff. Crunchy-crust potstickers with their signature pork filling in the #4 and a sampler of all their dumplings in the #6. One comes with a soup and their hot and sour is alright. The other comes with the signature noodle, which is covered in sesame sauce. Both are good, but you're here for the dumplings. I'm still a little dubious because a lot of reviews said that the signatures noodles tasted like peanut butter... I didn't order them, but will ask to speak to a manager the next time I go. Went on a rainy Sunday night and the place wasn't too crowded- still had ample seating available. Ordered Combo 4 (Bafang Dumpling Bowl) and got 12 dumplings (4 each of the kimchi, corn and Bafang dumplings). The Bafang ones were ok- not much flavor. The corn ones were good and the kimchi ones were REALLY good! Also ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, which was huge! It had a nice layer of oil on top and huge pieces of beef and daikon. It had a little bit of a kick to it, with lots of cilantro, green onion and pickles inside! The noodles were chewy and bouncy as well. Disappointing for Vegans -- Don't Be Misled by HappyCow Listing I came to Bafang Dumpling after seeing it listed on HappyCow as a vegan-friendly option, but unfortunately, it was a big letdown. The only thing remotely vegan was the vegetable dumplings -- and that's it. No tofu, no plant-based protein options, no stir-fried veggies or sides to round out a meal. Just the dumplings. While the vegetable dumplings were decent in flavor, they felt more like a snack than a satisfying meal. The menu is extremely limited if you're vegan or vegetarian, and there's really nothing nutritionally substantial being offered. Definitely not a place where you'll leave full or nourished. It's frustrating to see places listed as "vegan" or "vegan-friendly" when they barely put in the effort. After my son's optometrist appointment, we were in the area to try Bafang Dumpling; I had it bookmarked as the latest "hot & new" restaurant to try but I'm not usually in Gardena. Located in the Gardena Market Place on the corner of Artesia Blvd. & Western Ave., the restaurant sits on the far southeast side & just had its grand opening about a month ago. Upon entering, the founder's - Mr. Lin & his wife - story is highlighted on the right wall: "With hard work & grit, you can turn dumplings into gold." Can you (turn dumplings into gold)? For some reason, I'm think of DTF & their explosive growth the past decade; according to their website, they have grown to 1.1K+ restaurants in Taiwan, Hong Kong, & China & just started publicly trading on 09/2021 in Taiwan. Bafang Dumpling's menu is short... just 2 kinds: potstickers (鍋貼) & dumplings (水餃) with appetizers (小菜), noodles, soups, sides, & drinks. There are combo menus with most selections at a slight discount except for #4 (5¢ more); #8 gives you the best bang for your buck. I figured I try both of their signature dishes with their signature noodles. As I was deciding on a drink, the cashier mentioned their Oolong Boba Milk Tea BOGOF promo & got that; I was pondering the Soy Awesome, & Four Seasons Green Tea (if it's anything like what my parents used to make). After your order is completed, you're given a puck-like pager to inform you when you're order is ready for pick-up. Bafang is more fast-casual than sit-down & my order was ready in minutes. I also noticed there's no tipping option on my cc receipt, so does that mean this is Taiwanese fast food? While I can see the steam rising from the potstickers & dumplings, it didn't take long for them to cool down & the dining area didn't have the a/c running on full blast, & the noodles were already starting to clump & stick as they cool. The signature potstickers & dumplings are made of pork, leeks & water chestnuts? Other than the wrapper, the taste is essentially the same & bland (even a little salt & pepper will give it some flavor, but I think that was missing too) except the potstickers' bottom is charred to a crunchy texture that didn't come to fruition due to the condensation & being cooled down even though I ate them first. Since it was bland, M was willing to eat several of them when he normally passes on having any. Good thing there was a condiments station with sesame oil, black vinegar, & sauces: chili, garlic, & soy for dipping. I made a concoction of garlic & chili sauces with a little sesame oil to dip the flavorless potstickers & dumplings. I think I'll try the kimchi & pork potstickers/dumplings next time, others seem to enjoy this more. The signature noodles were tasty with a slight chili kick from the malat sauce & has good chew, just didn't like the clumping/stickiness even though there's enough oil at the bottom of the bowl to prevent this. The oolong tea was a tad muted, but then I drink loose leaves in higher grade levels so the quality here isn't likely to match that of a tea shop. The boba was ok so I'm not expecting its quality to be that of a boba shop. It was a decent & filling meal, & less expensive than most dumpling shops for the quantity. I recently discovered a delish Taiwanese/Shanghainese restaurant near my place; check out Review #764 of CC. Will I be back? Possibly, but not likely to go out of my way for BD when there's a spot closer to home that has a more extensive & flavorful menu. Fried pork chop - 5 STARS, crispy, savory, has that proverbial mama's taste (you Taiwanese homies all know what I'm talking about.) Potstickers - 2 STARS, stuffing has good flavor but seems more veggies than meat; the shell is soft and not crispy at all. I recall going to the new Bafang in City of Industry and their postickers were perfectly crispy and hard for the first few months, then went soft and limp like... you know, a steamed dumpling (Hey I'm talking about food here!) To preface, I'm from Taiwan so I grew up eating Bafang (八方雲集) and therefore was comparing this to my experience in Taiwan. I found that the US version's potstickers, though the flavors are mostly the same, was noticeably oilier than what I had growing up. I recommend the kimchi flavored potstickers over the regular! I actually really liked the signature noodles too, which I don't remember ordering in Taiwan. Even though the noodles don't have much in them other than the noodles itself, sauce, and green onion, I found myself continuously eating the noodles and slurping up the sauce! Lots of soy milk based drinks too! The regular soy milk was fine. My boyfriend really liked the mango soy milk, and I liked my friend's taro soy milk (it had a bunch of toppings in it including taro and red bean). After I got my food, I checked for sauces but there were none in the bag. There is a small self-serve station with black vinegar, soy sauce, etc. They had little to-go containers to take the sauces in, but the station was very messy. The containers were leaking everywhere & the bottles were sticky. Everything is average. The signature dumplings were okay but I thought that their black vinegar was too sweet, which made the flavors a little off for me. Their hot and sour soup was bland. It lacked a lot of flavor & couldve used more vinegar or spice. It also had a lot of ingredients in there that I'm not used to seeing in hot & sour soup. There were carrots & enoki mushrooms. First of all, I'm so glad they opened in Gardena. It's still far from me since I live in West LA but it's more convenient especially since I have friends that live nearby. The prices here are really great, especially for their combo sets. My favorites are the Kimchi & Pork Potstickers (I don't even need sauce for these, so flavorful) and the Signature Noodles. I also love their soy drinks. The potstickers really do remind of those in Taiwan. I will say though that I find the corn & chicken ones a little strange but the signature ones are also good. The place is nice and pretty spacious and the staff are all great. You can order ahead for pickup and everything is ready pretty quickly. Parking is also plentiful in the plaza. read more

I was extremely excited when I saw that Bafang had opened up a location in the south bay! I've gone a couple times and it always hits the spot. If you are looking for some solid dumplings and noodles that won't break the wallet, look no further. There is always parking in the lot, and I've never had to wait too long for the food.
