So excited to see Bafang Dumpling opening in San Diego Mira Mesa area! They had a big opening promotion this year to kick off this new store. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and the line was out of the door! It's a limited service restaurant that you line up to place your order and pick up when the order is ready. It has a sizable selection with tables. It's first come first serve. We were really lucky that a table opened up soon after we placed our order. The menu offers a few popular combo items, such as potstickers with soup or a drink, steamed dumplings with a soup, or noodles with a drink, etc. We ordered two combos, potstickers with corn chowder and noodles with pork chop and iced tea. The potstickers are very authentic Taiwanese! The garlic sauce with spicy sauce is the key for the complete flavor profile. It's perfectly cooked with soft skin yet slightly crispy. I would love the filling to have more meat :) the noodles use the traditional simple vinegar based sauce. It's okay. I added more vinegar to make it more flavor and it's great. I would love to have some white pepper too! The pork chop was great. Again very authentic Taiwanese flavor. The spicy wantons are great! Excellent flavor and great wantons. The side dishes, seaweed and tofu strings, are okay. I would try other side dishes next time. The corn chowder is very very authentic Taiwanese!! It immediately reminds me of my childhood. I'm constantly impressed when food I've eaten in Taiwan gets brought to the states. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people compare two shops that have similar dishes. I have a lot of friends that say they prefer Bafang to Ding Tai Fung, but they're really not the same concept. Bafang isn't a premium-casual dining, it's more of a casual & cheap quick meal that you can eat on the go, whereas Ding Tai Fund is held to a different standard because it has a more premium price tag for casual dining, so it's not similar to a street vendor style store like Bafang. Now that I have gotten that out the way, the food here is just as I remembered. Still one of my favorite potstickers (the kimchi being the best), with a perfectly seared bottom. Because of how packed this place is, it's hard to quality control - so we had some items that were overcooked or even not perfectly pan-fried. I recommend their signature noodles, as that was also very good. You taste a very cumin flavored sesame noodle, which is slightly on the drier side, but still delicious. I would say this place is still a 10/10 because it's nostalgic when I come, brings back memories of my mom taking me to the hole in the wall when i was in Taiwan. Definitely give this place a try, you won't regret it! read more

We came here dinner time and it was packed but the line moved pretty quickly and it was our turn to place our order so we got the number 8 Combo which came with there old fashioned noodles and the pork chop with a drink and we also got there beef noodles soup . Well this is what I thought of Baflong Dumplings. First the flavor was on point both noodles were delicious and it was the perfect amount as for the pork chops well cooked and pretty crispy !! Well for the Service it was good !! I suggest you give Baflong Dumplings a Try and enjoy !! Highly recommend you try the Combo 8 and the beef noodles soup !! Tasty place. A friend ask me if I know of this place "八方?" I am like it sounded familiar, I know it's a Taiwanese restaurant. She said it was posted on the news and wants to swing on by. Sure enough when we swing by, the place is packed with patrons! The sweet aroma of its foods greeted you and wrapped you up in its warmth on that cold night. Luckily the wait wasn't too bad, and we did find a seat there. But I can tell they were swamped with busy flow of people. They weren't able to clean the tables at all. Tried beef noodle soup, beef was super tender but little underseasoned for my taste. Their broth wasn't spicy, it was mild borderline sweet, can taste a strong apple or fruity taste in their soup. Noodles were alright, didn't adhere to the soup as well as other beef noodles I had. I hope they plan to have more high chairs as when we went, they indicated they only had one for the whole place, so not very baby friendly. Soy milk was good but nothing super special about it. Could have been richer and more creamier. There was a line and can imagine getting much worse over time, seating is kind of chaotic due self order and self pickup. If you want some place to dine in orderly fashion, this place ain't it. Some people oddly hogged a seat when they haven't even ordered their food yet, pretty annoyed at that. Some people actually have their food on a tray and trying to find a seat to eat. Due to this self line self pickup, this place is too troublesome with small kids. I could not stand it and gave it to a coworker who couldn't taste it (with warning). Signature potstickers were also on the bland side, but I like them like that. The filling is a bit inconsistent, some loose and some packed with more filling. They were soft with crispy bottoms. Unfortunately I didn't know there were sauces which could've made them closer to a 9/10. Wonton soup - wontons were even blander than the potstickers, but the soup was very good. I would definitely order again regardless. Chili pepper chicken is more of a glorified chicken katsu (not seasoned, accompanied with spicy sauce). The sauce was kind of sweet and very oily, not sure if it's supposed to also be "mala" but I was not a fan. I would not order again. Cute new Taiwanese dumpling spot in Mira Mesa! Came right when they opened at 10am on a weekend and there was already a line of people waiting to come in. Felt right at home. My favorites were the hot and sour soup which I felt was seasoned just right, not overly spicy or salty and had enokhi mushrooms inside. Their signature noodles were also quite unique, had a hint of a mala spice and not too overseasoned as well. Dumplings and potstickers were of course solid. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying everything else on the menu including the boba! Only complaint was that the black vinegar in the sauce bar tasted a bit watered down and mediocre. Pork ribs were good, super tender, just not too flavorful in itself and so I felt like it needed to be dipped in sauce. They also had a nice selection of ready made packaged food by check-out, I got the cucumber side dish which was a good palate cleanser to go with everything else. Clean bathrooms and tables. In a huge plaza so parking very easy (and you can stop by Sunmerry Bakery right next door too). Great new addition to the Mira Mesa food scene!! read more

heard this place was a dupe from din tai fung, and i don't think this is the case at all. bafang has a more inviting and casual vibe, with orders taken over the counter and is a lot more affordable! in terms of food, it tastes uniquely different from din tai fung allowing it to stand out on its own, so do not expect for it to taste exactly like the restaurant just like i did. each item is very tasty and filling, all with unique flavor profiles. we got combo 5 and combo 8. their dumplings are huge, and the noodles were chewy and packed with flavor albeit looking a little undressed. overall satisfied with bafang dumplings and i can't wait to come back and try their potstickers! read more

This place is great! I love this concept of ordering high quality Chinese food at the counter and picking up the food yourself when the your buzzer alerts you. Casual with with a simple menu yet not fast food like Panda Express. The food comes quickly and it's delicious with no need to tip because it's basically self serve. (I feel our society has gone too extreme with tipping but that's another convo.) We ordered the sesame noodles, Taiwanese beef noodle soup, potstickers, signature dumplings, and the fried pork chop. Everything was very good but what stood out for me was the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The broth was tasty and the beef was tender. The dumplings were great too. The price points were good and not over priced . Some portions like the sesame noodle was on the smaller side but it's like $7. So I would just order 2 orders next time and then it would be like a full portion at $14 which would be inline with what restaurants charge for noodles these days. I will definitely return as there's still the fried chicken, kimchi and pork dumplings, other noodles and boba drinks for me to try. It does get very crowded so I would go slightly off peak times. I also found out there's some outside seating in that plaza near Crumbles Cookies so that's an option if there aren't any tables available at Bafang. Everything comes in disposable bowls and cartons so it's easy to eat outside or take home. The prices are good for the portions you get. They also have combo specials like pork chop with a side of soup for $12. I know I'll be back many more times! read more

Wildly popular and I had high expectations, but the food was just ok. On a Saturday by 5:30 there were no open tables so we waited a few minutes for the bar seating and at 6PM the line was well out the door. The combos didn't feel very well balanced, I ended up getting the variety of dumplings and friend got the noodles and wonton soup. The noodles weren't amazing. The dumplings were ok, but not much flavor - the best were the signature ones. Wish there was more variety. The wontons were probably the best part. Would come again to try the pork chop, but maybe wait a bit until the crowds die down. There were better places for dumplings, but at least the price wasn't unreasonable. read more

We got the signature pot stickers combo with the signature noodles, side of the kimchi pork dumpling and a side of the pickled vegetables. I was a fan of the pot stickers. It had a nice crunch at the bottom and the filling was pretty juicy. The noodles paired well with the pot stickers. It seemed like a spicy peanut sauce and the portions were pretty generous. The kimchi pork dumplings were kind of disappointing. The skin for the dumplings seemed a bit thick. The pickled vegetables were really good and refreshing! I would definitely come back!
