The broth is amazing, the noodles are the perfect texture, good amount of beef in the soup, and the radish and bokchoy complete the meal. The potstickers were good as well, maybe it would've been a different experience for the dumpling if my food wasn't a to go order. Overall very happy with the quality and price of the food. A little on the pricier side for dumplings since they opened. I went to their location in Taiwan and obviously they can't compete with the prices there. I was surprised by their lack of options at first. Compared to the Taiwan branch, the menu in San Diego was lacking in some way, but they were always busy when they first opened. Now, this location is not as busy. They have more options. They got rid of the cold dishes. Tables and tray station can get pretty dirty since it is self-service. I think that also speaks to the customers in the store. They could do a better job cleaning up after themselves. I got the pork chop rice during my last visit when they added it to their menu as a new item. It wasn't too busy. The rice was a little undercooked. They had us wait 20 minutes since they needed to cook the rice. I was a little shocked by that because usually restaurants just have rice staple ready. The potsticker chef could do a better job though. I expect my potstickers to be intact for the price I'm paying for one dumpling rather than chopped up and broken into pieces. Not sure why sometimes they come broken. Customer service isn't stellar. There's literally no service. This place is more like a take-out fast food chain. Stopped by for the Soy Mango drink in the past, but haven't actually tried their food until recently. That Mango drink is really good by the way, I had it again and recommend it. This place satisfied my dumpling and wonton craving. Tried their Signature Dumpings and Spicy Wonton and was the perfect meal for me. Both items were simply good, no frills. I liked the texture of the wrapper on both. The dumplings were complemented by the self serve sauce concoction I made. The Spicy Wonton was dressed nicely and had good flavor. Service is friendly. Dumplings were pretty good. I wasn't a fan of the kimchi dumplings, it tasted kind of salty. The signature was really juicy and flavorful. I liked dipping it in the soy sauce with vinegar rather than the sweet sauce. It wasn't as crispy as I thought it was going to be even though we ate it there. The food took awhile to come out even though there wasn't a lot of people there but service was good. Everyone was really sweet and friendly, all smiles. I really liked your beef noodle soup and I recently want and I got rice with minced beef and Dan Katsu I believe and it was really good. I highly recommend this place. The prices are affordable and it's just good Taiwanese food. This is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter and receive a buzzer. When your food is ready, the buzzer goes off and you pick up your food at the counter. If you're dining in, you pick your own table and you clear your own table once you're done. There's a counter for returning dirty dishes and trays, and a trash can to dump your trash. Originally from Taiwan they have built a fan base and branched out to the United States. Now with multiple locations spreading the handmade food with love around the world. The restaurant is more a sit down fast food style meaning you order on the kiosk or at the cashier and pick up the food at the counter when it is ready. Don't be fooled with the fast food service because unlike anything else the food is hand made from Centuries of traditions passed down from generations. The restaurant was large and open with plenty of tables for singles or large groups. The combination plates offer guest to try not only their hand made noodles and soups but their handmade dumplings and potstickers as well. You really can't go wrong when food is made with love. The potstickers are not your average shape long and skinny but still filled with flavor and a lovely crunch to expose the texture differences. The wrapper is light and is the perfect vessel to marry all the flavors. No matter your pallet you can make your dipping sauce to whatever your heart desires. I am a spicy savory kind of girl so I mixed the hot sauce with a little soy sauce and black vinegar. Next I had to try the dumplings. Made with a thicker skin then what your used to in the United Stated but the pillow pockets are filled with mouth watering fillings that are incredibly juicy. The handmade Bafang noodles are used in the three dishes I tried. I didn't think the Bafang signature noodles were spicy nor did I realize as I was hastily ordering the dish didn't have any vegetables or protein. I would highly recommend the beef dry noodles and Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The soup bowl Is almost as big as the tray which is amazing. The broth is filled with immense flavor which is a great representation of what each hand picked ingredient represents as you allow the bold flavors to surround your taste buds. The combination plates do come with mango black tea. For those who are not tea lovers they do have an assortment of boba milk teas or soda. If you're on the go they have quick grab and go containers as well as frozen dumplings in an assortment of flavors for you to enjoy at home. I pop in here for occasional Friday take out lunch. The cheaply priced fast-casual dumplings, potstickers, and noods are mightily attractive after all. I especially LOVE the scrumptious signature Bafang noodles. There are labeled as spicy, but only a tad, in the end. I pick up more peanut and sesame oil, pure umami goodness. The dumplings are not too bad either which are boiled and can be enjoyed later. They also have these frozen for special bulk order. The potstickers are pan-fried and therefore are best enjoyed almost immediately and with all the special sauces especially the black vinegar. First, I liked the variety of options they had in addition to the combos if you wanted to try multiple items. What intrigued me were their noodles and potstickers. Conveniently, those two were one of their combos offered (#4 on the menu). #4 Signature Potstickers + Signature Noodle (4/5): The potstickers had a nice crunchy layer on the bottom from frying. They do lose crispiness so you want to eat them first. The noodles were mixed with the sauce well and were not that spicy! Soy Wild Mango Drink (4/5): The flavors of the mango are not too strong and combats the greasiness of the food. They gave me extra soy milk on the side, which I was a bit confused about since I thought the whole drink itself had everything mixed in. Wonton Soup (3/5): Very mild and light in flavor. The wontons were small but still had a nice thin wrap. They even have frozen dumplings that you can take home which is an indicator their dumplings are popular. FIRST OF ALL: What sets this place apart from others is the fact that they do NOT prompt for tipping. In our tip-crazed culture, this is a rarity. And yes, I know, it's all self serve so why WOULD they ask for tip - but other places that are self serve still prompt for tip, so shrug. Now, onto the rest of the review: I love coming here for a quick Taiwanese food fix! As a Taiwanese gal, I honestly never ate at Bafang in Taiwan, but here in San Diego, it's one of the rare options for tw food and it's yummy! I usually get a meal set, replacing the signature noodles with sesame noodles and the 6 potstickers. Their noodles are so chewy and fresh, the sauce is perfect, and the potstickers make a good side dish. The ice water with cups and all the sauces are all self serve along the back. Convenient and they're always checking the supply and maintaining the area. Self order kiosk is handy, there are plenty of tables of assorted sizes to sit down at, but when it's really busy, it can be hard to find a spot. They cook things fresh, so a lot of people are just sitting and waiting for their number to be called, so the tables can fill up. When they introduced the pork chop rice for $10, omg what a deal!!! Not only is it cheap, it tastes authentic and is bursting with flavor - but I recommend taking it home to add more rice, and make it into two meals. The pork chop portion is generous. I hope people will try it out for a simple meal. The beef noodle soup is a gigantic bowl, also quite good. Noodles, potstickers, dumplings, soup, rice bowl...... all good. BEEF NOODLE SOUP: I've heard mixed things about their dumplings, but only good things about the beef noodle soup. Decided to give it a try after seeing it as the number one dish on Yelp too! It seems a bit pricey but the bowl is HUGE! Perfect if you have a big appetite though, I still finished the whole thing. Their noodles were cooked to the perfect texture and the beef was tender. BAFANG SIGNATURE NOODLES: Saw this as the 2nd dish on Yelp's most popular so I decided to grab this to go too. It has a chili pepper next to it on their menu but I didn't really feel like it was that spicy. They had a nice chew to them but did start to feel overly greasy after a while. I think the addition of some veggies would've helped to cut the fattiness. Overall, a decent option for Taiwanese food. There aren't too many options down in San Diego for Taiwanese food so I'm glad to see more places popping up! I can't believe I haven't reviewed this spot yet LOL I've been here multiple times and each time I liked it! When I'm craving dumplings this is my go to spot when I don't want to spend a lot of money! Every dish is so good and comes out fresh. The shop itself is clean, it's self serve sauces and you get your own table so sometimes people leave a mess but the employees are always cleaning up and putting dishes away! Lots of seating for mid size parties. There is a bathroom as well, and they have always been clean. I've tried almost all of their dishes and they are all good. I really like the potstickers, spicy noodles, and pork chop when it is fresh! Their wonton soup and beef noodle is good too, but not my favorite. So happy this opened in Mira mesa! I love potstickers, and thanks to their impeccable preparation and flavors, so does the rest of the family! The dumplings are tender but hold together, the potstickers are crisp on the bottom but not burned, the noodles are thick and tender, and the sauces -- oh the sauces!!! Don't miss the sauce bar! There's something for everyone. Spicy, oily, vinegary, but all tasty! My favorite is probably the sesame oil... it just pairs so well with the signature potstickers. If you're in a rush make sure to order ahead online so it's ready to pickup when you get there... it gets BUSY during meal times. If you come to eat in you can order at a kiosk or get in line at the counter to order in-person. Either way, the wait can be significant. But I will say the wait is worth it, as there's not really anything comparable nearby. It gets crowded inside as well, and a bit loud, but not overwhelming. The floor-to-ceiling windows help make the space feel open and bright. And really, once you get your food you're not going to notice much else! I miss Bafang in Taiwan so the next best place to get it is in Mira Mesa. They have a variety of combos and dishes to try. Some of the noodle dishes were flavored right, others could be more flavorful, and I like their dumplings in general. There's plenty of parking, plenty of seats, and you can order via the front or using a kiosk. Sauces and water are self serve, they even have side dishes to grab and go up at the front. I've had Bafang up near LA, but this is my first time at this location. I did try a lot of new items here though. We ordered the Mala Beef Noodle Soup ($16.75), Bafang Pork Chop ($8), #2 Combo ($14) which includes 12 Signature Potstickers and Wonton Soup, and the Bafang Signature Dumplings ($5.75 for 6). They also have a self-serve sauce bar towards the front of the shop where you can get soy sauce, black vinegar, sesame oil, chili sauce, and garlic sauce. My preferred combo for dumplings are soy sauce, black vinegar, and chili sauce. I've had their regular beef noodle soup before, and I actually prefer that over the mala beef noodle soup. I feel like I get more of the beef flavor when it doesn't also have the mala in it. The dumplings and potstickers have the same filling, so it just depends on whether you prefer the steamed or pan fried way. I personally like the potstickers because you get that crispy crust on the bottom. The pork chop was juicy and tender but I don't think it had much flavor to it. You order at the counter first and then they hand you a buzzer to let you know that your order is ready. Then you grab a table and everything is pretty much self serve. The water and sauces are at the front, and if you need take out boxes they just laid them out at the counter for you to grab yourself as well. I arrived at around 11:00am on a Saturday and there was no line. By the time we sat down at a table though there was already a line forming for the lunch rush. Solid place for dumplings, and it's nice that they also have beef noodle soup here. The prices here are decent, and I like that there's a good amount of sauces that you can choose from.
