I get a breakfast sandwich at the Avenue Z location almost daily, generous portions, and the bacon is fantastic. I used to get my breakfast at the other place right by the Subway station, two doors down. Quality difference is worth the extra two block wall to get my food from Bagel Boy. The soup and salads are good too. The biggest issue: they have no baskets, so if you get several drinks or items, you constantly have to walk back and forth to the cash register and there's always a line. If you call in your orders in advance, it helps, but some times they just tell you to come into the store, "We're not taking call in orders." Which is bad, because ANYTHING that keeps lines down is a good thing. It's amazing that there are another two places around the corner (Jonathan's and Dunkin Donuts) and they don't have nearly the business Bagel Boy does. It's a testimony to the quality of their food. Recommended highly, but just know the line is annoying sometimes but the quality of the food is worth the wait. This place is terrible. They over charged me for a bacon egg and cheese. They charged me 6.52 cents for it. Mind you I ORDERED "THE BOSSMAN". I have no lettuce or tomato in my sandwich. And to make it worst, the manger was very rude and I asked him what was he going to do about it and he said to me that he's not going to send over anything for the amount of $2.50. I have been living in the neighborhood for 10 years already and this was one of my favorite spot until I had a bad experience this morning with one of the cashier (a blonde girl). You are not doing a favor especially when people pay for their own food. You are not allowed to give attitude with angry mimics to the customer when you have asked for something pretty simple. Bagel boy is really overpriced to say the least. Their quality of bagels and food overall has steadily been declining over the years. The staff is hard working and appropriate when it comes to assisting customers, no complaints there although the line is always out of this world. As the "duchess" of this establishment, having visited here more times than any other Yelp reviewer, I hope my review doesn't go unnoticed. I ordered a bagel with egg salad, white american, tomato and onion. I received a bagel with egg salad, no cheese, no tomato and no onion. This isn't the first time this has happened, and it's upsetting. Bagel Boy is not what it used to be, and this saddens me. The person in line in front of me also got an incorrect order. I made the mistake of not looking at my bagel before getting home, and I don't have the energy to go all the way back, so I'm dealing with it, unhappily. If I paid for cheese, tomato and onion, then I expect to get that. Unfortunate. I'm slowly giving up on this establishment. read more

I remember when Bagel Boy first opened on Ocean and Z, way before it moved to where it's now been for along time.... I'm not a frequent customer, cause it's a madhouse there. And the coffee is not great. But this morning, wanted a bagel.And it was early on a Saturday, i figured the transaction should be painless. On my way to the train, I stopped at Bagel Boy about 7 :30 AM. The counter person asked "Next?". I said "I'd like a whole wheat bagel with butter, and a medium sized coffee, no milk, no sugar, no nothing." And i was pretty friendly. The guy says to me, "Coffee, no milk, no sugar? Just say black, that's all you have to say." And he was nasty about it, confrontational in his face and voice. In retrospect, i should have asked for the owner, told him what was going on, canceled my order, and left. But, i figured hey, what's the big deal? The guy's having a bad day. So i tried to laugh it off, turn it around, and i smiled, jokingly said to him- "Ah, you understand. Not everybody knows what black coffee means." Still rude, he says to me,"Yeah, maybe you go to the Chinese.". The guy was a Hispanic immigrant. In his 30s, maybe even his early 40s. He had a heavy accent. Now i again laughed it off, said, "It all depends how some one wakes up that day.". One of the bosses then appeared said, "We don't wake up till around 11 O clock around here." Now i don't know how much he heard, , but maybe now he gets to know the entire exchange. The counter person had no business coming off to me, or telling me how to order coffee. No milk, no sugar, well that's not black coffee, it's actually black coffee no sugar. So he was not only surly for no damn reason,, but he was wrong. Odds of me going back there, aren't too good. I'll probably stick to the Romanian Bread place on Jerome, - their coffee is much better, and they are very polite, or the new place on Sheepshead Bay Road, Portokali. The coffee is also better, less expensive, and who needs uncalled for attitude? read more

This place is the baskin robins of bagel. Tons of different kinds of bagel. Never have I seen a french toast bagel (looks very much like an egg bagel which they also sell) until now. But I'm a plain bagel with butter and jelly or the occasional cinnamon raisin with cream cheese kind of guy so I haven't tried anything else. Both were ok, nothing that jumps out at you. On the other hand, their service is lacking. They need to change their ordering/paying system. The person you order from makes your food, then brings it up to the cashier for you to pay. A staple in the Brooklyn community for years. I remember I first had them when they had the location on Ocean Ave. A great selection of bagels (also low carb and whole wheat everything which is simply hard to find) make this a must. Also they have a great salad bar and selection of flavored coffees. I very much love their cream cheese and bacon egg cheese on an everything is still a classic. They're lobster bisque is really good as well as the everything bagel with cream cheese. The seating is not so much an option for this place though, which is pretty upsetting.
