Was excited to get a bagel this morning but was disappointed to say the least. The service and customer service here is horrible. I purchased a sparkling cider and two bagels. The cider was completely flat upon opening and the bagel that should have had strawberry cream cheese had this disgusting seafood flavor or it was spoiled. I notified the cashier that my drink was flat upon purchase and the asked his superior whom I assume is the manager. He was so rude! He flat out told me that it wasn't his problem, Since I opened the beverage already. I simply told him I purchased a drink that advertises as "sparkling" and it's flat. Gosh I'm trying to avoid carbs but was taking my daughter to the dentist and smelled and saw an array of bagels. As a New Yorker who loves a good bagel, I couldn't resist trying one to see how it compares to my beloved NY bagels. Got a blueberry and cinnamon crunch for my daughter and devoured both! I can tell that these are properly prepared in the traditional way - boiling before baking - and these were done well. As we were leaving my daughter desperately wanted a gum ball from the machine up front. I put in a quarter and low and behold our comes the rare green gum ball... which awarded me with a half dozen bagels of my choosing. Yay! i arrived at 10:26 am for two breakfast sandwiches and was surprised to find they were completely out of bagels. The only thing left were a few plain sandwich rolls and some Dutch crunch rolls. The display case was empty . Very poorly run business apparently they don't want to have bagels left over so instead of spending a few extra dollars making extra bagels they forgo selling bagels sandwich's for $13 each. This is a cute little shop with a huge menu. They aren't the best bagels, but they aren't terrible either. They only take cash so stop by the ATM beforehand! I was very dissatisfied with the customer service from a young man who was manning the cash register. The restaurant is small and very loud. This kid would not project his voice for anything even after I asked him the same question several times - he would continue answering in the same whispery voice. I asked him if they had juice (I didn't notice the fridge at the entrance, so I guess that's my fault) and slowly he looked at me.. looked at the wall.. looked at the floor.. then finally whispered, "No, I don't think so." So then I asked if they had milk. He slowly looked at me.. looked at the wall.. looked at the floor.. then nodded (no verbal response). He also brought plain and garlic and herb cream cheese, which were on point. These five stars are for the quality of their bagels only. Not the best bagels but it was on the way to my house from Martinez so I stopped by to pick up some plain bagels with cream cheese for my family. We're used to getting our bagels from another bagels store in Pleasant Hill, and my family noticed the difference. One said it's doughy and everyone agreed that there was not enough cream cheese. Came in here on a whim after passing by it for so many years. Kiddo got a chocolate bagel with blueberry cream cheese and I got a cheddar cheese breakfast bagel with eggs, cheese, and sausage. They didn't ask if we wanted our bagels toasted which we did. Then I watched them microwave both the sausage patty and the egg for my sandwich. Yuck and lazy. Both bagels tasted stale a chewy. When we went to pay we found out they are CASH ONLY. I was taken aback by this and looked around and realized they had a few tiny signs advertising this which were very easy to miss. As a small business owner, I know it costs a little fee to have a credit machine and if you're super cheap you decide not to pay this fee and instead give your customers the gross inconvenience. Not to mention they were already cooking (I use that term lightly and it was in the microwave) our food so we felt obligated to pay. Thank god I had a little cash to cover our order. How embarrassing it would have been to have to walk out... On a positive note, while they weren't overly polite with us, I do see them being very kind and chatty with the older regulars. I'm on a roll recently with mediocrity. I thought I was going to be the queen of the day when I came here to get a sandwich for my husband and I for lunch. He was at home not knowing that I was going to bring him something. I got him a Chicken Breast Sandwich with no Onion or Peppercinnis. Chicken Breast was so small and thin. When I brought it home to surprise him I opened one half and thought there was no Chicken on it. It was so small it blended into the bread. I got a Roast Beef Sandwich with everything on an Everything Bagel. The guy making them said that there was going to be Sprouts on both sandwiches but there wasn't on either. Then on top of that, they only take cash. I had to walk over to the CVS next door to use the ATM. I love being charged $3 extra on my sandwich purchase. I stopped by yesterday morning on the way to work. The Bagel Street Cafe is located in the same shopping center (Muir Station) as Longs, Nob Hill and the Goodwill Truck (in back). There is a lot to like about this place. There's a great selection of fresh bagels and they are boiled not steamed. There are also a variety of cream cheese smears available, but I cringe when I see chocolate chip being offered. I feel the same way about my coffee. Keep the sweet flavoured stuff away from me! The Bagel Street Cafe also offers a good lunch selection and there is ample seating available. It's nice to see groups of friends getting together in the morning for coffee and fellowship. read more

I had a lunch meeting scheduled last week and since it was prior to a meeting at the office buildings across the street from the Nob Hill shopping center, I suggested we try Bagel Street Cafe. It was a great choice! Two sandwiches (turkey for my friend, veggie for me) and two drinks only ran us ~$12. I didn't try the turkey but the veggie on a toasted sun dried tomato bagel was delicious. Some places skimp on the actually veggies in the veggie sandwich but this cafe certainly does not. Cucumber, sprouts, tomato, avocado, lettuce, etc. and cream cheese. You can't serve bad salmon and say it's normal. This is the second time that I've had bad salmon(nova lox) here. All their other bagels are good except for their nova lox. And they say it's normal for salmon to be off colored. You obviously don't know your fish. I've never once experienced a bad bagel at any of the other bagel store outlets. CASH ONLY - this store needs to get with the program. Had to go to the ATM at the bank on the corner and was charged $3 for the transaction ... The place has a nice vibe. Very clean. Looks promising and delicious when you come in, but unfortunately ... the bagels aren't much better than those you can get in the grocery store that are pre packaged. The cheddar cheese bagel really doesn't have any flavor. There's a place in Southern California that puts the real cheddar cheese every morning INTO the bagel, and when it's done being toasted, it's just pure bubbly CHEESY madness. But you won't get that here ... In summary - the bagels really aren't anything special. I don't hate the place, but I'll just continue to get my bagels from the market. read more

I eat here at least once a week - I never miss their chicken salad special on Thursdays. Each day they have a different special sandwich served on your choice of bread or bagels. For $5.25 you get the sandwich, chips or cookie, and a soft drink or coffee. With that price it is impressive that they serve the best chicken salad I've ever had. The service is fast and the workers are very friendly. They even remember how I like my sandwich and ask me if I want my usual chocolate muffin. Highly recommended! read more

Im glad to have a bagel shop in MTZ but its not amazing. I would take Noahs bagels over this. I would not say there are any stand out flavors here. Its pretty standard bagels. I have the Nova Lox on a cheese bagel. The bagel was a bit dry and they put way too much onion and not enough capers. I also ordered a latte. It was a normal size cup with 75% frothed milk!!!! It was so light I started digging for coffee. I had to have the guy correct it! They do not know how to make a coffee here. you might as well order a cup where you can fill it up yourself for $2. Knocking a star just based on the fact it was cash only. When I handed him my card and he denied it my jaw was on the floor- thank GOD I randomly had cash on me. I NEVER carry cash. For a Nova Lox and a crappy coffee it was about $11. The inside is super 80's decor. My customer service was good. Bagels are good but they tend to run out quickly especially on the weekends. I've noticed service can be hit/miss depending on who is working. I guess I could be considered somewhat of a regular so I feel like my service is great. Lots of the options to go on the bagels (eggs, bacon) are microwaved so I could see where that would be unappealing. Still hasn't stopped me from grabbing a BLT bagel for lunch! My biggest gripe is the cash only option. I get that they want to pocket as much money as possible to save it from Uncle Sam, but I would tend to go there more if I could swipe my card occasionally. Maybe they could be like my nail place and give a discount for cash or a surcharge to use a card under a certain dollar amount? Like other reviewers have pointed out, there can get to be quite a line and sometimes it seems like they could up their speed a bit to work through the crowd faster. I love bagels and Bagel Street Cafe is my go to spot! Service is quick and they have a good variety of bagels with an assortment of homemade cream cheeses to match. They're pretty popular so it's common for them to be out of some bagel flavors before 9AM. If you get the standard bagel and cream cheese, they really load up on the cream cheese! It's not a problem for me, but my husband doesn't like his bagels lathered up like I do. My current favorite combo is the cheddar bagel with the sundried tomato and garlic cream cheese. My husband usually gets the breakfast sandwiches and those are pretty good and quite filling. My only issue is that they're cash only and that it seems like everything other than the bagels is cooked/heated up in the microwave. read more

Bagel Street Cafe won my business in a recent 'Support the Local Guys' whim when the line at Starbucks on a Saturday morning was waaaaaaaaaaaay too long for me. A quick stroll across the parking lot and there I was, happy to be in a small privately owned business with many other patrons that were obviously regulars. Multiple signs posted around the line state they take cash only, which is disappointing in this day and age and is costing them 1 star, but at least customers receive fair warning. I got their cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with strawberry cream cheese, and a bottle of sparkling water from a drink fridge, and within 3 minutes and $4.50 later, I was enjoying a really great breakfast for the price of my usual Starbucks drink order. The bagel is toasted perfectly, and the cream cheese awesome - pretty sure there were chunks of strawberry in there, which was a first for me! Me, Cinzia and Reno have been coming here on Sunday mornings for the past few weeks. Cinzia loves bagels and isn't always in the mood for my hotcakes with berries, whipped creme and sprinkles... I indulge her. Right then, I don't have to make hotcakes, yay. Bagel Street has a great selection of bagels and a full menu of sandwich varieties (on a bagel or not.) Reno & Cinzia are easy: two blueberry bagels with butter, toasted. I've had the egg bacon cheese bagel, but found the bacon microwaved and flavorless. Today I skipped the bacon. And, yeah, the egg is microwaved too, so a bit of a disappointment. Coffee (many *flavors*): thermos bar to the right of the register, self-serve. I like how they have a bottle of tabasco at every table. They have quite a few booths, and tables, and usually are about half full around 8a on a Sunday morning. Parking not a problem (strip mall lot.) I've noticed that there's a group of 60ish year old women - and maybe one or two men, at the biggest table every weekend having a nice time, catching up, etc., it's cute.
