I came here on a Saturday afternoon as I heard great things about this place, but o m g I was shook!!! First of all, I was pleasantly attracted to the restaurant because of their cute Japanese-style interior design along with their small and cozy space. The waiter, Peter was super hospitable and immediately seated me and my friend. Since it was my first time here, I was having trouble with what to get, so Peter was very helpful and recommended some of his favorite dishes to us. We decided to start out with the Rock Shrimp Tempura and the Soft Shell Crab. When I popped the rock shrimp in my mouth, I was very surprised of how crunchy it was on the outside, and at the same time, how tender the shrimp was inside. The crab was surprisingly good too and that's a lot to say, as I'm not a huge crab fan haha. We then ordered the Emerald Island with the Bai Naruto and let me tell you-- this was amazing!! The tuna went perfectly when drenched with the wasabi-vinegar sauce and to top it off, the avocado/ tuna/ salmon/ yellowtail/ crabmeat wrapped in cucumber added a nice, fresh touch to it. This was only the beginning-- next up, we got something on the secret menu: White tuna with spicy tuna on top and peanut sauce. This was actually one of my favorites!!! I'm not too sure if this one is on the menu, but you can ask for it if you'd like to try it! At this point, my taste buds were fired up, so I needed MORE!!! I asked for some assorted sushi rolls (you can look at my pictures) and everything was super fresh and tasty.... oh my gad!

Friend suggested this place since she came here before and said the sushi was good. We came just in time for their lunch special (Monday - Saturday and ends at 3:30pm). We both got the chef combo 2 that came with 6 piece sashimi (2 tuna, 2 salmon, and 2 something that I can't remember), 3 pieces of sushi and 3 piece tuna and 3 piece salmon roll. It was reasonably priced at $15.50. It also comes with a soup or salad. Place is small and looks like a mom and pop shop. Cozy vibes and good service. Sushi was not bad and tasted pretty fresh but nothing too special. Nothing that blew taste buds. Portion feels kinda small, I was still feeling pretty hungry after. Feels more like a neighborhood restaurant not a restaurant I would travel for.

It wasn't good , atleast the portion I ate until I found a huge hair in the ginger. I called asking for a partial refund and that I was willing to send the photo but she said not necessary and gave me a ten dollar credit for next time... in which I told her I wouldn't be returning.

Solid sushi place that's not too far from my apartment. Nothing fancy or anything that knocked my socks off, but we were satisfied. They get bonus points from me for having a veggie roll on their menu that includes tofu in it (I appreciate being able to get a little protein in a vegetarian roll). Boyfriend was satisfied with his tuna avocado and salmon cucumber rolls (the latter of which was not on the menu but they happily made upon request). Our server was very nice while taking our orders, and refilled our glasses of water many times. We were there on a slightly earlier side for a Saturday evening, so it wasn't too crowded. The dining area is on the small side - I can imagine it being quite cramped when full.

We've ordered takeout from Bai Sushi twice now. Unfortunately, it's hard not to automatically compare similar items to other places that we've ordered from. We recently became fans of rolls with scallop in them so we figured we'd try that out here as well. We ordered the following: the spicy scallop roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll and the sashimi deluxe with salad. I'll start by saying by bf enjoyed the sashimi and felt it was pretty solid. There was good variety for sure (I think they advertise it as 21 pieces) though I noticed they counted pieces of imitation crab, and tamago (egg) as part of this as well. For the rolls, my opinion was that it tasted average. Nothing tasted off (so this wasn't about freshness). The salmon avocado roll was pretty normal, somehow the spicy tuna roll didn't quite measure up to spicy tuna I've had from other spots (might just be my preference) and the spicy scallop roll was not as good as the scallop roll we'd had from the other place that we loved. So I admit, my main issue is with the rolls and how they don't measure up to other spots I've ordered from. That said, it sounds like the sashimi was good so I can't speak to other menu items.

Solid standards, a reliable place to try. Impressive range in menu, things made fresh. Food was good. Unique crab rangoon style. Service depends, would suggest not going when you're in a rush.

I was in Astoria to see a friend and was in the mood for sushi. I stumbled upon this place and it was great! Fresh fish, low prices. Always a great sign! I dined in once- and it was Super stinky- like spoiled fish, rotting stinky. On the flip end, my roommate orderd sushi one night.. i trusted her judgment and had a few pieces of her rolls... and I was pleastantly impressed with the quality and freshness.. I asked where she ordered from and I was surprised when she said Bai! And she continued to say it's where she always orders from and she loves it. So.. for what it's worth.. maybe they were having an off day.. I'd prob just order next time. read more

This place makes me sad because it's almost there... And has been that way for awhile. Thankfully Junko sushi is not far. The rolls are always ok...fish is pretty fresh, the same you can get anywhere else. They forgot the soy when I did a pick up, that's just irritating. ******Please read below for an item which would dropped the score!!!! If I could give each dish a number the rock shrimp tempura gets a 1. Problems; first it's not rock shrimp,they are Little nasty baby shrimp which do not cost as much so why are you charging me $9?, next the batter! Super thick and doughy. Nasty! Not to mention you could taste the age of the oil. I ate half the roll, but am so disgusted by the shrimp ( that I barely touched) read more

This is bai far my favorite sushi spot! As soon as I was seated to a table I felt very welcomed. I'm not much of a sushi connoisseur so I asked for a recommendation and I was told the Chirashi was good. Surprisingly the dish didn't disappoint and exceeded my expectation. The service was amazing throughout my stay and I will definitely be coming back again. read more

It's a bit too small and snug of an establishment for a family dining out, but this doesn't detract from the fact that this is probably my favorite place for Japanese food. I usually order the salmon teriyaki, shumai, California roll, cooked tuna hand roll, and hot green tea. I love the salmon teriyaki- the salmon is lightly fried and has a fresh taste. I've been a customer for years and will continue to be one. The service is quick which is an added plus! read more

I live in this restaurant, no not really. I'm just a regular. The fish is fresh. I love the sushi & teriyaki dinner. You must try their crazy salad & rock shrimp (which is crispy & yummy). I also enjoyed their eel roll, sunshine roll, crunch roll & spicy lover roll! Their prices are very good. I love this place and highly recommend it. This place is my second home read more

I am literally writing this review in the middle of my meal. Their sushi is legit - fresh and tasty. They don't skimp out on the fish portions which I'm very happy about. They seem to be a little bit pricey but it's worth it in my opinion. Great service, fast, and yummy. Definitely deserves a solid 4 stars. read more

I quickly popped my head into this place on Saturday as I was looking to buy a bottle of water. There was a fridge with sodas and water behind the cash register at the door and a lady standing there. The place was tiny, it seemed like a cafe and was completely empty. I asked politely if they had water and could plainly see that they did. She yelled at me that this was a restaurant not a deli! I said something along the lines of, I thought this was a business and you don't want to sell me water? and went back out the door. Would you believe she then followed me out and down the street yelling at me?! She yelled that water was expensive and if I wanted water I could go to a deli! Sheesh, where the F were her customer service skills! This is no way to treat a potential customer. No wonder the place was empty if this is her attitude to customers. I live in the area and would have eaten there but I will never ever go anywhere near it now and will tell everyone I know about the bitch that works there and to AVOID! Dumb woman. read more

You could eat sushi other places. BUT THAT WOULD BE A VERY POOR DECISION. In all seriousness, this place rules. I have had sushi all over the country and in Europe and this place consistently comes out on top. I just feel sad when I don't eat sushi here and ripped off. I live in a different part of Queens now and I still go back there. Here's a quick rundown: -Excellent, attentive service -Very fresh fish -Will seat you as quickly as they can, even when it's busy -Excellent sushi and creative menu of special rolls. The chef is an ARTIST. :) It's not a super fancy place, just basic, attractive and small. That's the only itty-bitty critique. read more

My friend and I come here at least once a week. The food is excellent!! The staff and chef are fast and very friendly!! I've been here a few times/ have ordered delivery. I love this sushi spot. It reminds me of my all time favorite in my hometown of San Francisco that has shut down. So happy it's close to my house. I have been dying for some sushi & this did the trick. The spicy rolls were the regular tuna, salmon with some sauce drizzled over. I would have liked to see them put a little more pride in them. The salmon roe was tasty, but I've had fresher. Very fast delivery & good prices...I'm a fan! read more

Not a big fan of this place. Waited an hour for my delivery. The two rolls I ordered were really big and cumbersome to eat. The pieces just fell apart when I picked them up. It was a mess. And they didn't even taste that great. The miso soup was just o.k. and the green salad was really small and the ginger dressing was not good. I won't order from there again. I will stick with Watawa on Ditmars. Much better quality. read more

My bottom line here is order nothing but the sushi, especially their Bai Big Rolls. They are quite expensive, but in my opinion are the best items on their menu. I've experimented with other items such as the udon and the chirashi. Personally didn't like the udon at all and the chirashi felt lacking. The Bai Big Rolls are consistently a hit, however 2 big rolls will leave a sizable dent in my wallet with a little bit of room left in my stomach. read more

i've tried sushi from long island to manhattan and bai stands out as one of the best places from which i've sampled. good variety of rolls, friendly and fast service. there's never a wait and did i mention it's CHEAP! everytime my (UES) boyfriend and i eat at bai in MY hood he is sure they must have left something off the bill. NO DARLING, we're in ASTORIA, not MANHATTAN! anyway- try this place, you're sure to love it! read more

This is definitely my favorite Japanese restaurant in Queens. The Mackerel sushi was excellent and the pork gyozas are out of this world. 1lThis is my second time being here within 3 days. I had to come back and order the beef Ramen for a second time. I highly recommend ordering the beef Ramen, very flavorful and home-tasting. I can assure you, you'll have a hard time saying "bai sushi" because you'll never want to leave! read more

Chris immediately told us he'd make our night better -- and he absolutely did. He put Noah Kahan on the speakers, and we chatted, chanted, and connected throughout our meal. What started as a disappointing night turned into such a memorable experience. Chris made us feel so welcomed and completely changed the energy of the evening. What stood out even more was that Chris was just as attentive and welcoming to everyone else in the restaurant. We sat in the bar area, and the level of care and customer service from the host to the chefs was incredible. Cannot recommend this place enough. Its still so fresh and I know that as a small restaurant the only place you can survive in this gentrified Astoria is if it is high quality fish and high quality service... no wonder they're killing it on seamless/gru too since I order from them all the time. I tried this lonely joint once. Their sashimi and rolls did not impress me. I thought their servings were smaller than other sushi houses in the neighborhood. It's actually a pretty small place. I've been to Bai Sushi twice. Both time the workers were so nice and kind. The restaurant is small but clean and comfortable. Today the chef served me free a kind of Katsuo Tataki.
