The inside of this restaurant is fun and eclectic with dim lighting. The chips and drinks came out rapidly. Service however was mediocre. Server forgot something I requested and I spotted her gossiping for quite a while with another server. The food was good, I ordered the honey bean burrito. I thought it was a surprising flavor for the dish, it was pretty good. Only complaint is that there was lettuce in this hot burrito. That's a pet peeve of mine, because lettuce wilts in hot food. Baja Cafe is pretty excellent. JBear and I took the little roommates last night and everything was flavorful. We got there around happy hour so the margaritas were cheap and plentiful. The chips were hot, salty and crispy, perfect for the two salsas that came with them. We started with quest and even the little roommates were fans. I had the hellfire and damnation enchiladas and they were slightly spicy but the flavors were on point. JBear got a shredded beef chimichanga and had nothing but good things to say about it. The Twinjas has a cheese quesadilla and a chicken burrito and both ate their food without a fuss. The staff were friendly and multiple people stopped at our table to make sure drinks were topped off, the chip basket was full, or just to check if we needed anything. We came here for my husbands birthday dinner last week and Katrina was our server and she was AMAZING. She was very sweet with my very toddler ("no, mine, no" attitude in full effect lol) 2-year-old. She even accommodated us and gave him his own little bowl of chips because that is what he wanted. We used a Groupon coupon for dinner and I would pay full price the service and food were awesome. The reason the restaurant loses points is that the drinks are really not that good and for the cost, it isn't worth it. The 2 for 1 Margaritas were $14.00 and they were not very strong. I did have a problem with the Spicy Watermelon Margarita (it didn't taste good to me) and Katrina had no problem switching it out for me, so it was much appreciated. The food was pretty good. As soon as we sat down we got chips and Salsa. My husband and I had the Avocado Salads (he had shrimp and I had steak) and they were delicious. My son had the Taco kids meal and loved it. He ate half and devoured the other half for lunch the next day. We will go back for sure but during Happy Hour, not so strong drinks at a cheaper price will make anyone happy lol. This isn't authentic Mexican, this is tex-mex A side note, this COULD NOT have been prevented by the restaurant may be the only way would have been to cut this patron off from drinking earlier, but I am not sure if that was the case. We were sat next to a couple. The male (a white man in his late 50's to early 60's) kept shooting dirty looks at our 2-year-old. My husband noticed and our son wasn't being very loud he was enjoying chips and watching NASCAR because he loves cars. But we tried to quiet him down because I never want to be that obnoxious family. If he gets loud we walk outside to take a breather and discuss proper behavior when eating a restaurant, but he is 2 years old there is only so much discipline you can do at that age. But taking him out of the establishment happened after this couple left. The man and woman then got into a heated discussion where this man then made a racist comment. The wife was embarrassed and left and he went stumbling after her. When he left, he pointed to a our table and the table across from us (there were 2 gay males and a Hispanic female at the table across from us) and said, "Well I'm (bad word) sick of them (pointing to us) and sick of them (pointing to the table across from us). We need to get all these (bad word) people out of our country." I will be completely honest, after that happened I was turned off. My husband is mixed (Bahamian, Turks Islander, and Dominican) and I am mixed (Italian and Jamaican) my adorable mixed son rocks a big fro of beautiful curls and he is a very friendly baby, he smiles while telling you, "NO". I was scared. I literally moved my son from his highchair and had him next to me in the booth. And within 15 to 20 minutes we left. We didn't mention anything to our server and again it is not the fault of the establishment. I didn't have them lose a star because of this incident. I haven't ever experienced anything like this before and it just made me nervous and kind of sad. For a moment, I felt less than not because of anything but the color of my skin. Probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had. The food took a very long time to be served. Part of it came early and sat for a half hour. The meal when it was finally served tasted and looked like it had been sitting for a long time. The service was as bad as the food. The waitress made it clear she didn't like her job and was annoyed with us for asking about how much longer it was going to take. Never apologized. It was crowded and we had to sit outside. This place is screaming fun but I wasn't sure if it was screaming good food. Inside it is certainly eclectic. Food portions here come in only one size: huge. Found the food quality to be surprisingly good and the service was never a let down. Vegetarians will not feel left out as there are serveral options, vegans might not fare well here. Menu selection is pages and pages long and there are happy hour specials. Really liked the salsa selection here, right off the bat you will get mild and spicy and a basket of chips which I thought were very good. Plenty of parking and always expect a crowd. The food was literally offensive. The pollo asada that everyone raves about tastes like hot ketchup and boiled chicken. As a texan finding good mexican food in south florida has been challenging and this is most definitely not the place. We sent our plates back and just ordered appetizers and drinks. When we got the check; the food that was sent back was still on it and the manager requested we just take off what we don't want to pay for from the waitresses tip. Clearly that was not a viable option as the waitress was very kind and attentive. The manager ended up removing the charges after having our credit card for 15 minutes. I would have rather donated my $140 and ate a pack of ramen from home. Will never be returning and recommend you don't either. read more

We were seated immediately, had 2 types of fresh salsa and chips set down immediately . The waitress was friendly explained the drink and food specials. The atmosphere was what you expect from a Mexican restaurant with cultural decorations. Hands down the most stand out part of the time there was how quickly i got anything i asked for. My drinks (alcohol and otherwise) were delivered moments after i asked. A chip and salsa refill within a minute. Most importantly my entree with a packed house was out withinh 5-8 mins of ordering. We ordered two sangrias two frozen margaritas ( buy one get one free at this time 4:00) a Modelo and a Dos Equis it took about 15 to 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive . When it was time to take our order we ordered two steak fajitas , one chicken fajita , chicken quesadilla, the steak with beanand I ordered to ground beef tacos . The tacos were probably the worst I've ever had in my life , I took two bites and that was it . One person who ordered the fajitas didn't even get tortillas with his and the woman who ordered the steak described it as "chewy" long story short we were all disappointed . The family said they came here years ago and it was delicious, one member even recognized the owners daughter so they were confused to why the food wasn't as good as it use to be ! We will never go to this restaurant again. The seats in the booths inside are old and extremely uncomfortable . The cushions have never been replaced and the springs are very irritating. It is very difficult to enjoy the food and therefore, not worth the time especially with prices as high as they are at this time. This last trip we got the queso, which was bland and lackluster . I got my honey bean, and it lacked flavor, and the wife got fajitas, which was mostly vegetables and lacked flavor.
